TLDR People are upset that an AI-generated version of George Carlin's comedy doesn't capture his true essence and are concerned about the impact on his legacy and reputation.
This is shit. Kelly Carlin, George's daughter said this: “My dad spent a lifetime perfecting his craft from his very human life, brain and imagination. No machine will ever replace his genius. These AI generated products are clever attempts at trying to recreate a mind that will never exist again,” she wrote. “Let’s let the artist’s work speak for itself. Humans are so afraid of the void that we can’t let what has fallen into it stay there.” Kelly continued, “Here’s an idea, how about we give some actual living human comedians a listen to? But if you want to listen to the genuine George Carlin, he has 14 specials that you can find anywhere.” "I’m worried about his legacy. His reputation. His art. I’m allowed to do that as his daughter and while I’m alive. It’s important that these corporations don’t rape & pillage art."
This kinda thing wouldn't have been so bad if maybe the creator had approached Carlin's family; a) for permission out of respect b) to work with those who knew him best & c) work with some comedians who knew him, were inspired by him & have a similar approach to their stand-up as he did. Would've been a great way to pay homage to such a genius and legend of comedy. Plus, his daughter may have notebooks or something full of unreleased material that could've perhaps been used.
One of the worst things about Carlin being dead is that he's not here to announce that everyone who claims he would be on their side politically is an idiot.
Agreed. I felt like the real George carlin was neither left or right. This seems to have been written by someone who's more on the left. I can see him digging into COVID and the vaccines differently than presented here and also digging into Trump in that unique Carlin way of saying what everyone really feels inside but won't ever say it out loud out of fear of the audience that will hear it
@xJohnwheatiesx I mean, he made fun of environmentalists alot, and he took digs at conservatives with their stance on abortion but, he never advocated for socialism or anything far far left.

As a lifelong Carlin fan, Mr. Carlin had many different styles, approaches and even voices over the decades. His voice LITERALLY changed. Instead of going with a bland spectrum seeming to pick bits and pieces of every decade's style and voice I hoped that they would pick ONE voice and style. It really does not sound like Mr. Carlin from ANY era. When you try to please everyone, or try to cover everything, you end up making a product for no one. Not a REAL fan, anyway. That is my 2-cents. (the product) It is better than nothing...kinda... (the edit in brackets -- thanks)
i see why people get upset, that it isn't him! but its the Fact we all miss him, but its the thought that his spirt lives on and its nice to think what he would say about modern times this isn't done in a Disrespectful way at all shit if i was dead i would want pepole to remember someway i liked it
I like everyone else who had the pleasure of hearing this "COMEDIAN G.O.A.T" when he was alive still love hearing him tell us how it is even from the dead. Even though he's gone, whatever this A-I VERSION of him is: IT'S STILL HILARIOUS TO LISTEN TO! From the first time I watched him in 1983 (16 at that time) "GEORGE CARLIN at CARNEGIE HALL" on H.B.O. and every episode since then I have dearly loved listening to how screwed up the system is, And everything he did concerning everyday life. He was by far "THE BEST PROFESSIONAL COMEDIAN, and PHILOSOPHER both rolled up into one! I, for one, pray there will be more of this to come. Because I know there's a lot of us who dearly miss him making us laugh to the point of tears. R.I.P GEORGE CARLIN. THE WORLD IS A MUCH SADDER PLACE WITH YOU GONE.
If there is a light, isn’t there a dark? If not, how do we define what light or dark are without both? They are a symbiotic. There is light as there is darkness. Light does not cause tragedy, darkness does. Call it all what you will. It’s all faith…and light.
Already, off the bat... Doesn't have Carlin's signature false twang/drawl. That in itself probably means they rendered it from when he was speaking as grammatically correct as possible. But other than that, this is pretty good. Well written.
I thought this might have been old unreleased material. I pressed play. It was on for about 7 seconds while I read the comments and quickly stopped the video.I'm a Huge George Carlin fan & I won't contribute to disrespecting his legacy. Whatever this video contains...NOT COOL,People!!
I totally agree. I also first thought it's some old material, but listening to this for just a few seconds and reading some of the comments, I had to.. "pull out".. Ok, I'm female, so I just stopped ;-) But seriously, who thinks this is funny to listen to or to use AI to create something like this in the first place has never actually been listening to him, and if, not understood at all. It's just another section of the "bullshit department"...
Follow up to my previous statement.... "Blasphemous!!" But yeah, free to think whatever you may about it. My stance won't change. And No, I don't think George would have liked it one bit.
Creepy how close jokes. Format is technically good. However, AI doesn't comprehend the jazz and blues the rhythm that Carlin had. And how could it. It is a computer.
This is so bad! Doesn't sound like Carlin at all and you can tell it's a crappy script written by a couple of hacks and read by an AI voice that doesn't sound natural at all. It also completely fails to recreate Carlin's passion, desire and soul, the blood sweat and tears he put into his material. This is a disgrace, glad his family sued to take this down. Besides we already know what Carlin would say about this dumpster fire of humanity if he was still alive. He's definitely rolling over in his grave and garbage like this definitely doesn't help. RIP Georgie! Honestly we didn't deserve you.
If I didn't know this was AI and that Carlin died over a dozen years ago, I'd be convinced it's the legend himself - the voice, the style, the jokes. It's uncanny.
Your You're about as sharp as a bowling ball by saying " it doesn't sound like Carlin" meaning you recognize the voice in this piece as sounding like Carlin but not quite.
If he only could see what has transpired in murika since he died. He was right of course. And unlike me any many of us who never could of imagined 2016... He would of have not been suprised...
Look, Of course, I oppose AI slop and thievery in most every capacity. It's a cancerous tumor on the backside of art at large that ought to have legal walls of fucking concrete surrounding it. HOWEVER: I do find it highly interesting that an AI can even attempt to re-create George's style and voice so accurately, and AS LONG AS we look at this as nothing more than an interesting experiment, I think it's actually quite fun. My point is, let's not look at this as a work of art, because BY DEFINITION machines cannot create true art; rather, let's look at this as a *technical* oddity that serves as nothing more than brief interest/entertainment by *mimicking* an artist's style.
This is so weird, the worldview of the a.i. is a much darker than Carlin's views of religion and consciousness, it seems to me--What is fascinating is the style and patterns derrived from his recordings put together in this. There is no creative poetic quality. It makes sense because a.i. has no creativity--it does bring into question of the nature of consciousness and reality and the question of the programming source of data

Not to overargue the obvious but this is NOT George Carlin! The real thing can be seen and heard elsewhere. Don’t waste time here! “ Ay Eye” is just another way to waste your time. Move on, nothing here but tawdry imitations.
Nah, it sounds like a muddled version of his voice as he aged. It lacks the higher pitches of his youth, and lacks the grizzled tone when he was older.
We’re missing the artful point here … George did not give a shit about how humanity is doing … the AI is missing what made him him. Because it’s NOT HIM. Yuck 🤮
@@slavenot1691it would only mean that if there weren't any other identifiers of Carlin. But this special is explicitly billed as being by George Carlin, so of course people are going to know what the voice is supposed to sound like.
I can't even stomach this nonsense. Carlin's humor was observation; a.i. carlin's humor is wanting to sound as edgy and politically wise as Carlin. Not even remotely funny while trying as hard as possible to be realistically clever.
I fully agree on all points, but is it stating facts nonetheless? Or am I a fool in being horrified on what I think are actual facts this ai thing is stating? I'm no trump supporter TG, but no one can deny the really scary shit going on and this ai crap without taking sides is only being factual about it
@tb9368 Jon Stewart used to be funny. People would even compare him to Carlin. Now he's not funny, a mere product of programming, and still has to look at himself in the mirror. In case you didn't catch the key point, this was NOT George Carlin, as evidenced by the fact that he's dead. It resembles him a bit rythmically, but not in voice or accent. It chooses topics that Carlin might have chosen to joke about, but clearly has no clue what humans find funny. The worst part is that the owner of the channel is trying to pass this thing off as something it's not. He could have easily added two characters to the title to not be a lying sack of shit.
@justfellover lol whatever you say dude. This video directly links to the AI model that was used to make it. You're angry about nothing and Jon Stewart is still funny just rich and libbed up. Take a break from discord bud.
@justfellover nobody watched this thinking Carlin was still alive and the first 5 seconds of the "stand up" owns up to the fact that Carlin is dead irl. So, this is it, huh? The Ai Carlin thing that his daughter was against. I agree. I'm against anyone putting out something for money, as if it were George Carlin, when it's not. I'm just wondering if it was written by Ai or was Ai only used to make the impression of Carlin. If this was written by a human, I'm impressed by their ability to imitate what sounds like something Carlin might write. If Ai wrote it, then who cares really. It's just Ai doing it's thing. It's not special. He even endorses Ai and puts down big business, when Ai and automation is exactly what big business wants. Can't be authentic and hypocritical at the same time. @@slavenot1691 That's not the point at all. You are missing the more substantial point. The truth is it is NOT Carlin and he is not saying this. No matter what is being said, it's only Ai. Lets just stick to humans saying it. I still don't know if this was written by humans and just said by an Ai imitator, but that's not the point either.

@@JiM-SWEET-art Hey JiM, thanks for engaging in this discussion. While I understand your admiration for George Carlin's thinking and the desire for human-authored content, I believe there's merit in exploring the creative potential of AI-generated content. AI technology like GPT-4 and ElevenLabs has shown remarkable capabilities in generating diverse and engaging content. Using AI doesn't diminish the value of the ideas expressed or the creativity involved. In fact, it opens up new possibilities for artistic expression and innovation. Additionally, the open-source nature of software like GPT makes it accessible for creative experimentation without the constraints of commercial profit. While it's essential to acknowledge the legacy of artists like George Carlin, embracing new technologies can enrich the creative landscape and spark thought-provoking conversations. Ultimately, it's about celebrating creativity in all its forms and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

As someone who has listened to literally every George Carlin bit/mix/video short or long that RU-vid has to offer, this is simply amazing and brought several smiles to my face because it’s like he’s really back from the dead and is gracing us again with his mental brilliance. The AI that went into this is simply amazing but also insanely and I mean insanely scary. The AI really picked up on his joke presentations, personality traits, verbal nuance, and rhetorical schemas. Wow. Just wow.
