@@TechGuyBeau Yeah, what a step up from most of those corporate influenced reviews. Do you think its worth upgrading from my 2023 zenbook pro 14 oled, the one with 4060 and 13900H ? Im really battery life dependatent as a cs stundent, the bigger display thats not OLED, doesnt degrade over time.. I feel my asus is just not the real deal for me, im used to 16inch laptops. Or should i just wait for Lunar Lake laptops? My other choice would be a 16inch m3pro or upcoming m4pro macbook.
@@TechGuyBeau Thank you for the review, really detailed. Also, totally agree with the RAM, never go with the smaller version if soldered. What about choosing between this one (with 64GB) and , IPS 240Hz , Intel Core i9 14900HX , 32GB DDR5, 1TB SSD, GeForce RTX 4080 12GB? I'm between these two models with the Legion being 350Euro more expensive.
Lenovo is just dominating the non-Macbook world. From gaming (Legion) to business (X1 Carbon and T14), and extreme engineering (ThinkPad P16 with Nvidia GPU).
Thank you so much for the review! Starting an MS in Data Analytics so was looking for a powerful laptop with plenty of memory to handle large databases. This one is what I’m getting!
How do you like it for gaming? I'm mainly wanting one for my creator work and productivity but also want to be able to get down on some of the latest games I've missed out on due to my underpowered old budget gaming machine
Hey man, you keep buying all these products with your own money. That's actually really sick! I was wondering how you are able to afford all these things, though. I think I heard in some of your older videos that you were an Engineer? Anyway, thanks for making all these videos, you go into much more depth, and I just wanted to let you know how much we all appreciate it!
You can return/refund just about everything (free of charge/no penalty) as long as you don't damage the product and keep every accesory and box it came with, within 30 days.
Thank you for reviewing this! Been trying to find anyone that reviewed the new model and this was a huge help. Would be awesome if you mic'd yourself because your voice is super duper quiet compared to everything else, especially when you turned up the music that was REALLY loud compared to your voice.
This laptop has a mux switch, if advanced Optimus is turned on, which I think it is by default, the dedicated gpu will not be recognized when on battery power. I noticed when you were trying to update the driver for the gpu that you didn’t have the power adapter plugged in. This would make sense why the driver update failed because the gpu was disabled. If you go into device manager when on battery power, the dedicated gpu won’t even show when looking at connected devices.
Thanks for reassurance on the specs. It's what I had chosen too, but I wasn't exactly sure as I'm not overly techy when it comes to PC specs. The laptop I have has 8gb ram currently, but it's done me well for the last few years, so should be a significant step up lol.
Planning to buy this the moment it releases in the US with Teal colorway and 4070 GPU. They have it available currently only with 4060 and NOT teal lol I was hoping to buy it in April but I may have to wait until end of summer for their manufacturing issues or whatever.
@@yakineh1726 still shows 100%. i keep it plugged in and with smart charge mode enabled whenever its in use. it stays surprisingly cool when gaming as well. absolutely love it.
Planning on getting this soon.. I've heard so much good about it.. And the laptop it's replacing is also a yoga from 2018.. So I think I'll go this route.. I was worried about the price and hinge.. But I think I'll go this route
this would have been a perfect laptop for me - I finally caved a bought an 2023 asus g14 last week for $999 - I've already upgraded it - it's fantastic. I just wish I had a slightly bigger screen. NIce review, as always.
Curious that the two Yoga Pro 9i models that Best Buy is (allegedly) releasing in early May, have different specs than the ones on Lenovo's site. No mini-LED, for one.
Im confused between buying yoga pro 9i and legion 7i What do you think is better for me I'm an engineering student I have graphic designing and simulation tasks I also want to play games and watch movies and tv series The system should be able to play next gen titles like gta 6 (future proof gaming) Which one should I get. And with what gpu and cpu
Awesome video! I wanted to add a second NVME drive and was wondering, did you need to add some kind of heat sink/thermal pad to the new drive or is it fine without? And if you did, what did you end up using?
I'm looking into buying a new laptop and this may be an option for me. I had gaming laptops in the past, but I'm looking for one with better speakers. MSI got a Stealth 16 AI Studio laptop but over here in the UK there's barely one with the Ultra 9 CPU. I never had an Lenovo laptop before but a lot of people like them!
I think I'm deciding between this and the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Ultra with the i9 and 4070... But the 4070 version of this Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i, is still not an option here in the US.
If your to choose between ThinkPad P16s Gen 2 AMD (2023) which is a little cheaper and Yoga Pro 9i (2024) for overall win, which would you choose and why? Great review both laptops. Thanks a lot!
I bought this laptop and am having the exact same issue of being unable to update the Nvidia drivers. I almost returned it because I was afraid I just had a bad unit. This reassures me that if it's a widespread issue it should hopefully be fixed. Other that that, fantastic review, I'm also loving the laptop for the same reasons
Does this laptop has Advanced Optimus or MUX Switch in it. Btw that was one of the best reviews on this laptop I have seen so far. Keep up the good work. You deserved more subscribers.
I had a Lenovo C940 14 oled and I extended the warranty and I had some things replaced, but they couldn’t replace my battery so they offered me the Yoga 9i pro ultra 7 as a replacement but it only has 16gb of ram and now I’m concerned but I’m not really a heavy user and I can’t be picky if they are replacing it with a brand new unit. Believe they are building it for me
Thank you so much for this incredibly insightful review! It was extremely helpful in understanding the features and performance of the device. I'm currently trying to decide between this model and the ThinkBook 16p. Based on your experience and the details you've shared, which one would you say is the better choice? I greatly appreciate your advice and expertise!
The Thinkbook has better cooling, but current is 13th Gen. there is a new Thinkbook 16p coming out that would be a better match for this The Thinkbook 16p has a lovely 3.2k screen offering, about the best IPs I’ve used. But it’s still no mini LED. However it is not glossy like the yoga 9i. If screen reflections matter The Thinkbook is a bit heavier, something like a legion 7 slim. Both are equally premium. Thinkbook 16p has superb speakers… but the 9i has godly speakers. In the end I’d decided based on glossy vs non glossy. If you can deal with glosssy (which makes the colours pop more) get the mini led yoga.
Edit: I was using the latest Linux Mint. Ubuntu itself should work better than mint currently. It is worth mentioning that if you want to use this laptop with a Linux distro be prepared to have many issues. Current issues that I have not been able to solve are: Lack of compatible kernel headers that have compatible Nvidia drivers that also work with the 14th generation cpu, Adobe Atmos is not available for Linux so the audio is very washed out, and the LFEs (subwoofers) not properly working even after configuring them in HDAJack.
@@Worthless. ThinkPads are nice for Linux but I don’t know if you would call them premium. Also it’s worth mentioning that HDR is not yet supported on Linux. Linux Mint 22 also may fix many of the issues I had. I’m not the best resource when it comes to Linux on laptops. I’d suggest asking the support forum of the distro you wish to use.
seriuosly thinking about buying this thank you! I would mostly 4k multi layered editing and im a little worried about the 4060. I guess ill just buy it and send it back if it doesnt work
Thanks for the video, it really help me to learn about this laptop before buying it. I got two questions: what's the grey thing you put on the second SSD you installed? Does that second SSD slot comes with a screw?
The choices in my country are Touch screen gloss mini LED only with the 4050 and 4060 GPU's and 32GB RAM. OR Non-touch Matte mini LED unlocks the 4070 and 64GB options. Kind of want it all! But having to choose is really difficult. Does anybody know what the Matte mini LED screen is like compared to the Glossy? Is it noticeably less suppressing the color pop of the Gloss screen? Or in fact is the Matte screen a better choice because of lack of reflections?
16" laptops should never have soldered wifi. A wifi card is small and it should be no problem fitting a socketed one. Further, if you're going to solder it, at least include the latest wifi version. Wi-Fi 6e is obsolete already and the laptop isn't even widely available yet
Liked. Purchasing one in the next 2 days. Curious if anyone knows how the MiniLED looks in regular SDR compared to the IPS for daily use such as wordprocessings, emails, excel etc? I read someone who say for regular day to day, the IPS actually works better than the MiniLED. I don't play games. Thanks for any insight.
I have the same laptop, but HDR just seems to be really bad with a lot of BLOOMING on darker screen with texts. If tried playing around with the settings, updating the driver, replacing the OEM Intel Graphics driver with the INTEL ARC Graphics also download custom colour profiles but nothing seems to solve it. Bought it mainly to use the 1200 bits brightness but getting disappointed.
This laptop is literally my dream laptop, outside of it being MiniLED instead of Oled. Not sure why they didn’t decide to go with Oled. This is definitely the best option I’ve found for my purposes that has a full keyboard.
@@TechGuyBeau Have you noticed any blooming at all with the miniLED? I plan to use this as a “Jack of all trades” device for art, graphic design, music, and game design. I looked at their workstation lineup and everything seemed to be IPS exclusively, and I doubt I’ll find a MiniLED or Oled workstation below this price point. Outside of gaming laptops.
Update for anyone curious, there is very obvious blooming at low brightness HDR around text. Blooming is also noticeable at higher brightness with HDR but to a much much lesser degree.
Ugh still bad battery life which is such a bummer. Thank you for this because it confirms some of my concerns about this laptop. Did you try downloading the Nvida app for your drivers to see if it recognized the 4060? It's actually really useful for switching between studio and game drivers. I originally ordered this, but canceled and went with the new Galaxy Book 4 Ultra instead.
@@iz723the legion 5 pro AMD and Intel both don’t have great battery. Legion slims amd are the models with good battery The yoga 9i will outlast that legion
Audio: close but yoga wins Screen: yoga wins easily (mini led). Although the 3.2k screen on the 7i is much better than the 1600pz Battery life is bad on both. If that matters go AMD
I had two Lenovo yoga’s, first one handed down to my son and it’s like 8 years old and still kicking. Got the c930 a few years, 2019, back and it is tough as nails. Still runs fantastic.
I am getting 1TB SSD, but wanting to double it at least. For the additional SSD I want to add, can I go over 1TB? Also which one would be recomended for this machine? I appreciate this very detailed review. Thank you so much.
Quick question regarding this laptop's color. I ordered mine in Tidal Teal because the Luna Grey looks much lighter than last year's grey and in videos / photos and such. I see that you were using the lights at home (yellow light?) and it looks much darker in this video. Does it look more light or dark in this color? In this video I like the color and maybe should have gone with this one haha. Curious to how you perceived this color IRL. Great video!
What do you recommend, a yoga pro 9i with ultra core 9, 32gb ram, mini-led touch, rtx 4060 (2300€) or Legion slim 7i glacier white with 13700h, 32gb ram, rtx 4060, 3200 res screen (1550€). The Yoga is brand new with 3 years premium care warranty, while the Legion only has a one year warranty, and is from ebay, apparently had faulty ram which was repaired (checked repair ticket with lenovo) , the seller mentioned the faulty ram but claims the laptop was unused. I would mainly use it for music production but like doing some color grading when I have the time. I don't game. I wanted something that was closest to a Windows Macbook Pro laptop. (good screen, build, speakers, etc) The Legion just popped up and the difference in price is significant (800€) I would love to know what your recommendation would be. Is the Yoga pro 9i worth 800€ more? (I still have a chance to return the Yoga and buy the Legion if its still available) I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you and all the best!
Do you still have the laptop and were you able to fix your driver issues with updates? Thanks for the great review! I have have the smaller 14.5 inch slim pro 9i and am considering going for the larger display.
It works a lot better but battery life is still bad. I’d still suggest that AMD is the way to go, as it has been for several years now. Intel has a lot of catching up to do
Awesome review. Thank you for this detailed review of this model. For an windows laptop this lenovo model is awesome. In my region it is priced at ~2500€. What do you think about this model compated to the macbook pro m3 max ? Price difference is of ~1000€. I've found m3 max at the same price as m3 pro. The laptop will be used for programming, daily tasks, probably some LLM, AI in the near future. Thinking about doing cross platform development also, but not 100% sure (only if i go with macOS will include iOS also). What do you think it is a good long term option?
Hey, nice review... I'm doubtful on choosing between this and macbook pro. How noisey this laptop gets when compared to macbook pro M3 pro ? If I use chome and code on Vstudio at the same time does it get loud? Thanks
It will only get a bit noisy if using performance mode while gaming. Balanced doesn’t really get noisy ever, and the whole system will be silent when doing normal tasks

I have had the driver problem on two different legion units now! Also on the 2024 Legion 7i ... Vantage did not find any drivers even thought the Laptop came without any drivers... not even the keybord or the mousepad were working...
Did you have the discharge on 170 watt power supply that they are talking about on Reddit? Basically battery drains while on power supply during performance mode
Hello, i just subbed after your great review! Thank you ! I have three questions about the Yoga pro 9i - maybe you can help me. 1. would you take this over a Asus Zephyrus G16 (same specs) 2. Lenovo has the better sales - i can get the 64 gb version with a 4070 cheaper than the Asus Zephyrus G16 with 4060 and 32 gb - so probably i should go with the lenovo anyway 3. How is the quality of the hinges in the lenovo - i read about hinges being a problem on lenovo laptops (especially the yoga slim models and ideapad) would be great to get a responds since i think it could help others as well - especially regarding the hinges
Lenovo has incredible design, performance, and stability all wrapped up in one with their laptops ever since 2006 with their acquisition of IBM. I have seen the Asus laptops and maybe this is just my opinion but they are very childish and juvenile in their design. Just look at the keyboard on asus's latest laptops, they're trying too hard to be space, age and gamer friendly and they suffer with cooling problems. Lenovo on the other hand, is very professional and clean with their design. It can be catered for office or for gaming, It's professional. Lenovo's offer a lot of stability and I can vouch for them. I'm glad you see it that way too. Otherwise you wouldn't be reviewing them!
I typically consider Lenovo to create hybrid styled laptops. Even their gaming lineup doesn’t scream “gamer” if you don’t want it to, but you can if that’s your thing with added rbg and such. I personally gravitate toward hybrid laptops like this 9i
The only negative is battery life. If you need to be able to work on the go away from a charger for more than three hours. You may want to go with an AMD laptop. If you will have access to a charging port, this one is hard to beat
@@TechGuyBeauI appreciate your feedback. I custom built my own PC and I swear choosing a laptop is more frustrating by a long shot. I’m a gamer but I’m also starting my own company and I need a good balance between the two.
Would you recommend this or the new macbook pro for mainly video streaming and office work? I'm usually streaming video or RU-vid, no gaming at all and don't need too many native pc apps
@@4ernuy89 great! Unfortunately the only configuration available in my country has the mini led NON TOUCH display which would have been great except it’s apparently matte and not glossy like the touch configuration. Disappointing
Strongly NOT recommend - based on my everyday use Switch on/off button is located EXACTLY where you put your palm on when taking/carrying the laptop - so yes, it will switch off each and every time you would like to move it. Or you would have to learn to carry it in the different way. Probably, lenovo creators decided to turn users into Pavlov's dogs. This laptop will restart without you knowing about it - in the most inconvenient time. Be prepared, you WON'T recover your most recent work, unless you used Google. Cursor - arrow is simply invisible. If you used to use something else instead of the usual cursor sign - it might work in this case. Have started to use Lenovo Yoga in Feb 2024, and Alt+Shift (language switch) stopped working in July 2024. Bluetooth switches off by itself - usually I use wireless headphones before online sessions, so set everything up in 5-7 min before start. And in about 2 min before start Bluetooth switches off. All my sessions are started with "Oh, just a sec, I have to switch on Bluetooth again" Good to watch Peppa cartoon - but I don't think this is worth an investment
Hi nice review , I need a laptop for video editing and stuff , can’t afford the Mac Pro , do you recommend this one or the specter x 360 16 inch ? , thanks for all
sorry I have the IPS screen with the same resolution and it is beautiful and does not use as much battery. I don't feel a need for the mini led, I had it on My macbook M1, and I like the IPS on the yoga pro better!! Also get the 4050 version. It is quite adequate gives you good frame rates in games and does not generate a lot of heat under heavy load, and it is cheaper. No need to go whole hog on this one, sorry. Except for my macbook pro M1, this is one of the coolest leptops, only gets slight warm, and you almost never hear the fans on any mode. sorry , can't beat that, dont need 100 fps, when it burning my legs off or I can feel the heat genratin from the computer and if I pick it up and happen to touch the bottom get burned. Not with this laptops
