@@pathetique00 Can you guess why we empathize with the original fight? can you guess what adds that extra bit of sauce to the game? the dialogue IS PART of the game, and censoring was not right thing to do Not big deal to you, but you aren't even a 1% of people interested
@@radiantansel202 well capcom is gonna make a lot of money off of my "1%". People are already giving it good reviews so I would think twice abt who is actually in the minority. You're too busy living in the past
I'm mystified by the lack of respect Capcom's shown to Frank West's original voice actor, going back to Dead Rising 4. Do they not understand that he's a big reason this character is so beloved?
Right?! The dude is what David Hayter is to solid Snake in that respect in the way they get constantly mistreated by hiring companies for reasons that make no fucking sense!
@@themindkiller9030 No he didn't. Why people keep pulling this lie. TJ said not only last year, but when this was announced he was still up to play Frank but Capcom hadn't called him.
Just play the original game. I do not understand what kind of GenA turbo-graphixwhore NEEDS a "remaster" of a HD era game, that is already on PC, and thus playable even at 4K/120fps. Double so since the de-make is a censored clusterfuck.
There's already videos of the remake with the old voices, and it just doesn't fit the new models or the lip movement since there's way more facial expression in the new Re engine version of the game
Small detail: Vietcong (Victor Charlie or just Charlie for short) were the South Vietnamese insurgents opposing US occupation during the war in the countryside. Though they fought assisting the North Vietnamese army, they were South Vietnamese. Which is why the paranoia aspect was so high in Vietnam because GIs were trained to fight conventional forces a la Germany in WW2 and not resistance fighters in nominally allied territory. It’s a shame they changed Cliff’s lines. His character really added to the tragedy of the story.
@@SolidSnake240 I agree. Like the average American boy from 64-73 didn’t have anywhere near the means to know about the outside world that we do today and at the beginning of America’s involvement they specifically didn’t draft people pursuing a college education, didn’t even bother to teach Vietnamese or local customs and on multiple occasions like the Tet Offensive large scale attacks were conducted by revolutionaries in plain clothes in what was essentially the Green Zone. So take someone with that background, add 30-40 years, and suddenly after decades of leaving an environment when anyone anywhere could suddenly attack you, it follows you to your children’s town when you’ve let your guard down and takes your children away. It would be enough to break anyone.
It's also a strange removal because its not like DR1's very subtle when it comes to the topic of America, the very backstory of why the first game even started is part of that.
Another thing about the performances, is that the original actors sounded like actual people. I didn't really feel like they were acting; but the new ones sound like voice actors trying to do a performance.
I think capcom just like many others don't want to pay the older actors or they want to give them give a bad performance because Dead Rising franchise is based off bad zombie flicks that is full of bad performances and writing etc.. so Dead Rising franchise is like playing your own home made zombie movies off a camcorder.
IDK any of the voice actors i feel are talking too slow regardless of what voice you're listening to. Like they're desparately trying not to flub the line itself but it sounds inorganic. Not that it's bad but I don't really think i would hear these lines in person and think that it wasn't coming from a movie.
@@billygoatguy3960 Sure neither original or the remaster can be mistaken as a conversation in real life, but the original was more genuine and believable as far as acting goes; they sounded natural and not forced. Not even the Last of Us games sound like genuine people talking.
Yeah, like Cliff used to be a Vietnam veteran, Steven used to be the manager in the supermarket, Jo I'm guessing used to be a cop unless she was impersonating one, Adam worked in the Wonderland Plaza, Larry worked underground in the butcher shop which I assume made him a very isolated individual, the Hall Family probably became paranoid after suffering losses of their own and Sean I'm guessing was an underground society leader and took advantage of the outbreak to form what we know as the True Eye Cult. Like these bosses told a story and you can pretty much piece together who they were prior to going insane
Yeah but that's the problem with the can of worms why people get mad at small edits. Yes the erotica thing was cringe and Larry was super racist def think that was a good idea changing it though (erotica just should have been expanded to men as well tbh) but once one thing is considered racist or bad they look at others that potentially might be racist or bad.
This isn't much of their fault imo. Capcom deciding to life the script directly as it was written in 2004-2006 was a bad idea. Some alterations and editions to allow actors to have uniqueness to their portrayals would have made this significantly less bad.
@@mr.iiconic i mean agreed but not correct they could have asked for better delivery and they just dident whoever let these poor voiced lines and casting decisions should defo be talked too cause its feels very poorly managed all over
Some thoughts. - Holding two female survivors' hands simultaneously is possible in the original. It's not a new addition. - You bring up a really good point about the changes they might make to Jo Slade. Both her intro and outro cutscenes are... pretty out there. If Cliff calling Frank a communist is too much for modern audiences, then they'll definitely change some of Jo's dialogue. - Maybe the way my eyes perceive color is off or something, but it looks to me like most of the characters now have grey hair because of how the new game engine renders lighting. Not a big fan of that. - The reason Capcom didn't go with TJ Rotolo is because he's part of a union. It's not the first time they've done this. - As you pointed out, a lot of the voice acting seems off. It's like the actors didn't know exactly how their characters were meant to feel in that moment. When Brad calls Frank "a hot-headed, underhanded, hotshot-paparazzi with nothing better to do than to invade people's privacy" it sounds more like he's reading off a wikipedia page than angrily rebuking Frank. - I am VERY curious to see what changes they've made to Infinity Mode, and I'm even more curious to see if they've added any new modes. It'd be a huge missed opportunity not to do that. - Frank's new look is... not good. You hit the nail on the head when you compared his appearance to that of an ulikable middle-aged politician. He just looks like someone you'd see on a presidential debate stage with a 23% approval rating. - Otis' new voice is fantastic. I've seen a few people say that it's actually Dave Fennoy - The voice of Lee from The Walking Dead. I haven't been able to verify this, though. - The survivor AI being given this entirely new dimension to it took me by huge surprise. It seems like the game's developers really took the angry feedback from the original game to heart. - Frank's facial expressions seem so exaggerated now, although he does look fairly good during moments where he's less expressive (14:52 for instance.) I think if they just lowered the facial animations for Frank by 20% or so, then he'd look more like an actual person. - The clothing locker feature from DR3 being brought over is much appreciated. That's one thing I'll actually give DR3 props for. - I sincerely hope they've added more variety to some of the NPC voice lines. "Requesting emergency backup!" still echoes in my head all these years later, whether I like it or not. - It looks like they have gotten rid of that cool blurry framerate drop visual effect that was used in some of the more actiony cutscenes. Look at 23:01 and you'll see what I mean. I hope they bring that back. Really good video. Props for giving us an honest review. I won't name names, but being a Rockstar Games content creator I've seen how quickly people go from criticizing Rockstar's blunders to blindly supporting and defending everything they do as soon as they're given a pre-release copy of a game. You actually spoke your mind, so thanks for that.
Maybe they listened to people's feedback and made the survivors better... But now it's too easy. They're just indestructible terminators now that cannot die and actually SAVE YOU. There is no more accomplishment in rescuing survivors now. They made it baby mode, they overcorrected themselves and now this already too easy Remaster is going to be beatable by even a 5 year old child. Don't you know making games too easy is a great way to kill a game?
@@SeriousDragonifyVoice actors union. Companies are required to give union workers a specific amount of compension at minimum. That said, Capcom not hiring him because he is union is a murky call because they aren't necessarily anti-union. They had him in RE2 remake a few years back. Judging by a lot of the other voice acting, it feels like they just straight up didn't budget properly for that. It very well could have been the difference between voice acting EVERYTHING vs only replacing what was voiced in the first game.
@@Chronis67 I guess because this is a "budget" title they figured it was okay to cheap out on the voice acting. Not just the ponying up to pay union voice actors but to spend more on the direction as well.
Viet cong wasn’t a slur for north Vietnamese soldiers, or the NVA. Viet Cong was an umbrella term that covered the networks of communist Vietnamese insurgents operating in Vietnam, (and along the trail into Laos and Cambodia). Viet Minh was actually the preceding network that fought the French following WWII.
Viet Cong is as much as a slur as describing a member of the SS in Germany as a Nazi. It was literally their just their designation. The GIs had plenty of slurs for the Vietnamese and they are foul but Viet Cong was just the correct name for them...
@@Gruntini No, it wasn't. There are slurs. I don't want to say but they come up in war movies. Viet Cong were the Viet Minh. Basicalling guerilla fighters from the South. Not to confused with the NVA. The term Việt Cộng appeared in Saigon newspapers beginning in 1956. It is a contraction of Việt Nam cộng sản (Vietnamese communist). The earliest citation for Viet Cong in English is from 1957. American soldiers referred to the Viet Cong as Victor Charlie or V-C.
I agree with you and @nokturnallex2160. It's a crime against humanity (in my opinion) to replace any of the old voice actors with the new ones. It should never matter to Capcom if Terence J. Rotolo and TJ Storm are union actors. Let our favorite (old) actors have their jobs as the characters that they play as long as they want to continue to play them, and as long as they're healthy
Yeah, the kind of realistic dead silence (pun unintended) in cutscenes was what really made the game feel realistic. That pared with Mocap made it feel like the characters were legitimately alive.
@@rynsart unfortunately but that's some of the hindrances of a lack of budget now a days :/ (If theres a massive support from fans to actually get some actors to do so and get things funded might be a better way)
I agree with you. You said exactly what I have been saying while I was crying over Terence Rotolo's absence in the game. Capcom should let us have the option of using Terence Rotolo's voice with the 2006 skin that will be in the game when it comes out. I heard that a voice mod for Terence Rotolo is supposed to be coming out when the game gets released but I worry that the people (who are making the voice mod) will use Artificial Intelligence which is why SAG-AFTRA is on strike
Don’t forget they remove erotic genre even though it adds to the humor and uniqueness to the game compared to other zombie games that isn’t Lollipop Chainsaw.
@@kinglizardwizardry763 I agree with you but, I'm playing the game with the sound turned off. I've cried enough over the new voice acting because of how bad I hate it
@@rickyaburgoswho cares if people wanna mod it? I might mod the game just to replace Franks Model With Chuck, and Filthy Frank audio for his dialogue. It’s for giggles and preference.
I think the remake being zoned based is because of the survivors. You needed those load zones to wrangle your groups of survivors back together. Plus the bathroom shortcut wouldnt make sense on one giant map
Yeah definitely disagree with both these points. There's no reason for the fast travel to not work on an open map, that makes no sense. And you can just wrangle your survivors yourself, why require a load point for it?
I agree with you. The new voices throw me of as well, and they make me cry because I don't like them, and I miss the original voice actors. If a modder were to make a voice mod with the original actors, then they would most likely use Artificial Intelligence which would be horrible because that would be stealing another actors hard work. The actors in SAG-AFTRA (that include Terence J. Rotolo (Frank) and TJ Storm (Brad)) are on strike because of Artificial Intelligence. But maybe someone can contact Terence J. Rotolo, TJ Storm and Laura Napoli to get them to record their voice lines again, and have those recordings as a mod without using Artificial Intelligence, then that would be perfect
something really sinister in deciding an entire generation of mens truma isnt pc or marketable enough to remain in a game thanks purely to self censorship. only some truma is allowed air time and only if you say it in the correct way is absolutely bizzare
It's probably that and being scared to get the blowback of lefties who unironically want communism and think it's a good thing. It's so exhausting having shitty idpol invade every single facet of life these days.
You said they removed the Erotica Photography thing.. wouldn't they have had to change Kent's Quest then since he was wanting you to take a Erotica Themed Shot?
He no longer asks for Franks sexiest photo, it's now Franks funniest photo. The entire game is a joke, this is not the Dead rising that everybody loved.
@@smokeymcbongwaterreal fans don't like needless change to a "remaster". Capcom could have had the balls and just called it a remake instead. I'm glad I got the OG DR1 at least, though.
That change to Cliff is soooo lame. Everything about that boss fight was tied into his backstory as a Vietnam vet... that's so disappointing. Now I'm positive that side stuff like Kent's quest or the sidequest with Ross & Tonya (seen at 6:00) are gonna be changed, too. It's just so bizarre to see these changes in a game where you're slicing people in half, ripping out their intestines, seeing people get eaten alive by zombies... so lame.
It’s for political reasons Simple as People who are not even relevant to the issues that this game presented even back then are going to get butthurt to the point of trying to boycott the game. But that’s just my theory.
I've got a feeling a few of these survivor stories are gonna be tamed down, unfortunately. That female security officer abusing the group of girls, Leah witnessing her baby screaming while being eaten alive...yeah, OG DR1 didn't play around. DR1 was a product of the early '00s. Back then, We felt like Next Gen Gaming (360, PS3, etc) meant we could push boundaries and become like gods (seriously, look at the PS3 commercials.)
I am wondering if even Kent will ask you for an erotica picture as that is no longer available, also, I can see a cutscene of his where he shows you a "sexy" Pic is no longer in the game, it isn't that relevant tho but I can see them doing that as well.
Blame everyone who conforms to political correctness . We wouldn’t be having all these problems ya know. Even demonetization in YT was hard to get hit by back then, like you had to really ask for it
@reversingmemory There is a difference between having politics (usually in universe politics) intertwined into the story naturally and forcing politics (typically identity politics) in front of the story.
Bruh im thinking about this now and yeah, when do rated M games actually get to be M rated besides Blood? Why is violence so acceptable but characters using realistic language is taboo. I cant believe the ideal dead rising remake is being ruined because it just HAD to come out during humanities clown era 🤡. Congratulations guys, we had one shot to ever get this game remade and its mid. Lmfao how depressing.
@@invisibleloki26 You can cut a person in a million slices in never before seen visual fidelity but we're actually going backwards as far as some very light erotica goes, they do say this is the most prude generation in 40 years and I can see it.
Yeah Cliff's changes are really disappointing, he was the first psycho I felt didn't go psycho just to take advantage of the chaos going on with zombies. There was a bit of nuance to his fight through the random dialogue that made me sympathize with him as it does seem like he isn't even aware of where he is or what's going on due to PTSD. "Deluxe" Cliff is just crazy
I've beaten Dead Rising while getting to level 50 4 or 5 times and I never knew you could hold two hands at once. I honestly just assumed the whole idea was just for you to be hobbled in a similar fashion to when you have to piggyback someone. So I wouldn't really take it as a comment on Suzi being a fan.
you know, I've been playing Dead Rising again recently, and didn't even consider it a possibility. But when she mentioned that, I thought "wait a minute. Can you do that in the original? I feel like I have before." I think I 100% did that before years ago on the xbox 360, but I'm like 2/3rds through my 2nd playthrough on PS4, and I had no recollection of being able to do that until it was mentioned in this video
"I'm gonna need the playable Jessie mod as soon as it drops modders" Oh you know modders will do more than that with jessie and issebella lol Not that Im complaining they did great work for sf6 and re4 remake lol
Going onto the RE3R nexus is diabolical. I genuinely wanted to add some QOL mods to RE3R, only to find that majority of the popular mods are... Cough... Outfit mods...
Yeah I dont even understand where the offense could come from. Its a depiction of a character, which in any GOOD story will include characters that aren't all sunshine and rainbows. Cliff's character touches on a very specific PTSD, but the DEI funding people who reviewed this game heard "filthy communist" and any regard for context was thrown out the window. Its sad that a game cant just be raw artistic vision anymore. Yes, creatives have always had to listen to their respective publishers, it just so happens that nowadays, publishers are giant cowards.
They actually listened to gamers about how "politics don't belong in games" so they delivered. Funny how the tables turned and now everyone finally got what they want and its still disappointing 🤭
I'm going to come out and say I don't think there's enough zombies judging from the footage, probably because the game can't handle so many entities on screen at once. Part of why the original game's graphics weren't so great was purely for performance sake. I really REALLY hope the game can handle more zombies on screen than what I'm seeing. 😮💨
As someone who bounced off the original because I'm allergic to time restraints in games (RIP Unicorn Overlord), I'm actually willing to give this a try. It really is too bad that they've messed it up for the older fans though. Half the reason I wanna get into this game is because fans seem to love it so much.
Tbh the time restraints is why it works so well. It gives it urgency and replayability, cos you have to do multi playthroughs for specific achievements (if that's your bag) i recently 100% the original and 5 plays through i had alotta fun and it wasn't a chore atall. I'd put it off since i first started it in 2009. It's a great game. The changes are ok though for the most part it's all optional changes. My issue is the flat or weird voice delivery's. Mostly by brad. I do highly recommend playing the original for a different experience
Yep! The widow's peak genes run STRONG in my family. I've literally had this hairline since I was a kid, it's not that I'm losing hair, it's just the way my hair grows.
The afinity system is great. I gave ross a hand gun and he is like CRAZY GOOD. You carry him and he shoots zombies as you carry him. If you remember one comment in your life remember GIVE ROSS A HAND GUN!!! You will totally thank me.
Thankyou for the preview and your thoughts on the Deluxe Remaster. I've had the game in my sights to buy for my xbox series and steam account for a while and was waiting for the right time to buy them, but with the remaster coming out soon I wasn't sure whether it would be worth saving to buy it or purchasing as close to the OG version as i could before the possibility of having it de-listed when the remaster comes out. I loved some of the new quality of life improvements you pointed out in the upcoming version, but man not having the same voice cast and the desynced lip sync kind of convinced me to get current version for the moment.
So from what I heard at the very least the reason TJ Rotolo couldn’t come back was because of the video game actors strike, he said on his instagram when asked directly he said that’s the real reason he wasn’t coming back, and tbh I respect it. Just sucks that he wasn’t able to come back at all
I think that might be explaining why he can't come back NOW. IIRC he either had to re-audition every time for Frank, or they just didn't contact him for this remaster. Disrespectful either way, but the strike is a very recent thing compared to when this game's voice over was being recorded.
I think Frank looks great. It's like a mix of 1 and 2.(But yeah the hairline is well....) And for the difficulty maybe they'll add nightmare mode like 3 and the survivors will be more difficult to save?
19:00 The actors probably had to chance because of Capcom's allergy to unions that I've heard about. Rotolo is a union actor, so Capcom wouldn't go with him nowadays. If the most of the main cast were union actors now, Capcom probably bit the bullet and decided to get an all new cast to make it look like they were just trying to get some new talent instead of trying to cut corners.
@@dude9904they just do it because they hate the fans and want to ruin timeless classics and make money while doing it. Capcom is malicious af. They even had tj rotolo as Birkin in re2r in 2019. @@dude9904so about that. I won’t name who because I don’t wanna get him in trouble, but I met a VA that’s in SF 6, he replaced an actor from the previous game and he told me flat out that his character was recast because SF 6 is non union. I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case for Capcom’s other games
9:26 exactly. The thrill of having to come up with a plan to save your group of survivors because of the questionable AI or even some type of obstacle collision was what made it so rewarding when you actually managed to save everyone and bring them back to the safe house.
The vet was my favorite from the original, he's one of the only psychos i actually wish i could've saved, and now he's just...meh, extremely disappointing to see that change, was quite hopeful but i gotta admit, not as much anymore, especially cuz ive already played, hated, and eventually understood and learned to appreciate og dead rising (was gonna say fell in love, but i still hate it lmao, the game is horrible but in the best way possible, its the ultimate jank masterpiece that is unfortunately lesser without that thick layer of bullshit mechanics and clunky jank) I dont see people having that same story arc of "how tf do i play this" to "omg....i get it" danny devito meme like i and many others did, and thats sad to see, i remember watching suzi's original dead rising video, trying the game and not getting it, years later tried it again, and after slamming my face into the wall that is this game it just clicked, i realized its not a normal game its almost like a rogue-like, unlike anything ive ever played and felt exactly like that cheesey zombie flick suzi described in her video, it was just such a great experience, something you dont get in modern games anymore
Alvin Chea voices Otis in this game. I feel he would've been way better as Brad compared to Brad's new voice. Also, as someone who is 24 years old and started balding at 21. I feel like an absolute dinosaur with how old people are saying Frank's new model looks. Also, Someone pointed out that Frank looks similar to his earlier designs such as E3 2005. Maybe they wanted Frank to be closer to what they originally had in mind? I'm excited for this game and am very interested in what they are gonna have other then 72 Hour mode. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really hope infinity mode returns. (Correction! Alvin Chea voices Otis and not Dave Fennoy. The voices are strongly similar but that is a different voice actor.)
My worries - Mall feels too grandiose for an American mall in a small Colorado town. - Lighting is a double-edged sword being great in some spots yet terrible in others. - The censorship changes such as Cliff, Kent, and erotica... - Boss fights not being designed for you to be able to move and shoot. - Echo or reverb to characters lines removed. This is showcased when Brad is yelling, and now it makes you feel like you're in a 1x1 room. - Yellow paint..... - Autosave removes the stress or fear of dying. (Optional but still makes the game easy) - Saving survivors may be too easy now, and they should still make some dumb mistakes due to the stress of the situation. - Weapon durability completely removes the situation of your weapon breaking on you, so you'd have to scramble to pick up what's nearby. (Makes game easier) - The new ui is bad, and they definitely could have made it feel more news themed. - Too much Pp being given out for anything. Hopefully, it's just a preview build issue... (Makes game easier) - No seemless mall. We're now treated to a black loading screen when, in the original, you could see some of the photos you've taken in a newspaper format. - Some of the new Va's are a hit and others a miss. - This game is ultimately a time management game, so I don't know how I feel about being able to fast forward when time is such an important aspect. (I know these are optional, but I have a feeling many will play this way and find the game too easy.) - Might be a me issue, but the color yellow and blue or the contrast looks bad compared to the original. - The Larry change, even if I think it's better, does remove diversity for the cast of pyschos. - Tj just is FRANK WEST. Imagine someone else over Al Pacino for the role in Scarface. This feels exactly like that.
I agree with you. In my opinion, Frank West should never be touched by anyone else. Terence J. Rotolo should be the only one who is allowed to play Frank
100% agree Suzy, plenty of good and plenty of bad and some questionable changes here. I'm definitely still excited, but some of the changes were absolutely unnecessary like with Cliff, the voices, the vocal tone changes, the lighting, etc. although having Otis have a voice now and the radio not prohibit movement is pretty nice to have. I can feel myself being able to play this remaster and occasionally going back to the original like I usually do since I absolutely love the story and don't like the vocal tone changes or the audio quality of Brad calling everyone to the safe room, I really hope that gets fixed somehow before release, but only time will tell.
You forgot hands clipping through clothes... Rockstar had same with RDR2 but never fixed it... They never will because they dont care bud. They get papers, they dont care for it.
I agree that the difficulty shouldn't be outright removed and there needs to be an option. I've never advocated for that sacrifice to need to be made to be able to get a less frustrating experience. But on the other hand for me the difficulty is a huge thing that dragged the first 2 games down for me and I was hoping for this. Just like how I shouldn't have had to completely sacrifice an easier experience back then for the sake of difficulty that other people might enjoy, I don't support the reverse of that either. Games should always have difficulty OPTIONS, not just made super easy OR super hard. Imagine if resident evil released and all it had was either ONLY professional difficulty or ONLY assisted mode. Either way its an awful experience for somebody. Simply make a difficulty option so all of us can enjoy games at our own pace that works for us.
@@BunnyMaesterIsn't RE 3's difficulty just giving you a machine tun or not? My memory is they didn't have to time to properly balance any difficulties so that was the compromise they made.
7:57 Thank you for showing this. Most reviewers I seen didn't even say anything about it or even try to show it. Really wish they didn't removed because I'm against censorship and also because if this game sells well, and they want to Deluxe Remaster Dead rising 2 there's a high chance they are going to remove Strip Poker from it.
The zombies are extra dumb and non-aggressive as well. Plus they added autosaves behind every other door and cutscene. Once again, censored and casualized to hell and back, like all their past de-makes.
Capcom has an unfortunate habbit of tossing voice actors in the trash at random. Leon has had 4 like different actors. X and Zero have had 3. A lot of the actors have said they would have loved to do more work but they never got a call.
It's crazy how little soul the remastered cutscenes have compared to the original. For example, I was originally worried about the Persona 3 remake changing up the VA's, but they ended up bringing many of the original VA cast back for side characters which was a delight to discover while playing. Hopefully Capcom bakes some love into the full release of DR:DR, even these example comparisons in the preview are pretty clear showing how much better the 2006 performances were.
I have a sliding timescale theory about the changes in Cliff's dialogue. Vietnam War is a fixed point in time while this remake is current, doesn't go out of it's way to say it's set in 2006 and there are good chances that it was never the case. It was set in the present then and it's set in the present now. That creates an age problem, you either age Cliff of further 20 years to be a credible Vietnam vet but a very less credible physical threat or you change the war into something generic to fix the issue and avoid dating your game again. I don't think it's a political change, just a storytelling one.
I'm honestly more optimistic about how Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster might do when it launches (cause the one thing that I'm more excited about was the gameplay). While yes, the voice cast might be a little hard to get used to (as well as certain things in the original being either nerfed or removed for this game). But I am more curious to see if the gameplay still has the charm and fun value that the series had for the longest time (especially considering how very disappointed I was with DR4 that I want the gameplay and charm that was completely gone from that game). But everyone's opinions are different, and I'm more excited while also curious about this game and see if it does well enough that the series might officially return (for a while at least)
I'm optimistic too. Even though the new voice cast is disappointing and certain things have been changed, I think it'll still be worth it just for the gameplay and new features.
@GoldCrotalus Yeah. Especially since the Survivor AI has been improved from the original (cause that was one of the only things that kind of soured my experience with the original). As for the next voice cast, some do pretty nice while others are a bit rough (I don't mind Frank's new voice cause at least he's trying to sound like Frank or at least got some idea of what he is like unlike Frank's VA from DR4. But yeah, nobody will ever top TJ Rotolo's voice). But yeah, hopefully, the game turns out good despite the drastic changes
I feel like the Cliff line change might be more because the game is being developed in Japan rather than changing it to be more pc for an American audience. Being more pc might be a part of it but I feel like it's probably a smaller part of the change. But at the same time I feel like the remaster is supposed to be a more inviting experience for people new to the series so I can see why they'd change it, but I still don't agree with the change.
I'm glad you pointed out the changes here and you sounded very honest and open in your initial review. I don't wanna say this is for "modern audiences" because I don't like it when that is used to describe games now, but I remember playing this bad boy, same as you, back in the day when it first came out. The only thing I would have requested a change to is to stop the timer so I could explore. But, honestly, the changes I'm seeing (the voice cast, omission of lines and photo modes) are not appreciated. If you're going to remaster a fantastic video game, you remake it for the original audience. I'm with you on this one, Sphere. I'll be waiting for your full review before I'm tempted to check this one out. Thanks again for your honest take.
I also loved the original Xbox 360 version. I got all the achievements and played through the whole game multiple times. It would have been fun to revisit the game through this remaster, but so many of these changes are off-putting, especially the needless censorship, which is weird considering how violent the game is already. I mean, how is including Cliff calling Frank a "Communist," for instance, supposed to somehow be more offensive than all the blood and gore?
