I've spoken a lot about psychedelics lately and I want to make my points clear. This video should help to clear things up a bit.

@@doodlebob1184 I had an experience somewhat similar to that myself. Keep in mind, I wasn't able to do a full dose because there wasn't enough to go around, we all did half at first to see how we felt and then everyone got into an argument on who was going to miss out on the second round. After we did the first half, I felt like the happiest I'd ever been in my life. I had been in a period of roughly four years of waking up every day wishing that I hadn't. I told them that they could all do the other halves because I felt amazing and I was okay with that being my experience. I never "tripped," or had any hallucinations or what have you, but after that night I've been happy. Not like euphoric or something, just "normal," for a lack of better word. Sure I get sad and angry and stressed out at times, but I'm no longer severely depressed. I'm not insecure anymore. I just feel good. I'm glad that I gave it a shot.

@@doodlebob1184 small update since it's been four months since my previous comment, some things have changed since then. I'm still no longer insecure, but I do get depressed just like I did before and I work through it the best I can with what I have. I wanted to try acid again one more time just so I could experience it, but I've sworn off of any and all drugs since then because I had a nightmarish experience with what is widely considered "the safest drug on the planet." I'm glad I got to have both experiences, as LSD helped me change myself for the better and the horrible trip I had led me to be more conscious about the things I do instead of jumping into with no thought. Drugs can be good sometimes, but I'd rather not risk it. When they're good, they're great, but when they're bad, they're terrible.

Just a note its not a fact that dmt is produced during sleep it has been theorized but not proven, however it is found in the human body
@IXLDGOLD
@IXLDGOLD 4 года назад
Well then what is it used for? Dimethyltriptamine (dmt) is, like any proteins/molecule that the body has in the body, is there in order to be consumed. We do know for a fact that the whole supply gets released when our body shuts down (death). The best evidence I could find related to DMT playing a role in sleep is from a 2013 study by Strassman's group (he's a big researcher in the field) that showed for the first time that a form of DMT was in a part of the rat brain called the pineal gland. The pineal gland is thought to play a role in regulating sleep/wake cycles aka circadian rhythms. Trying to understand where this association between dreams and DMT comes from (apart from the hallucinogenic nature of both), DMT is structurally similar to serotonin and melatonin, which are both known to play an important role in regulating sleep, so it's reasonable to assume DMT would have an effect on sleep regulation too. Serotonin does a lot in the brain, and DMT can affect some of the same receptors in the brain as serotonin, so this leaves just enough wiggle room for my favourite game in science: wild speculation.

This video was a very positive surprise to me as during the past couple of weeks I've been getting back on track with my personal journey of self-exploration/growth that was unfortunately cut short by real life getting in the way a couple of years back. I vividly remember the moment when I was standing on the balcony smoking a cigarette while having all of these different realizations about my childhood etc and I told myself "I don't have time for this now, I need to stay strong and keep moving, I can get back to these thoughts once this is all over". A couple of weeks back boredom lead to me lying on the couch blindfolded thinking through things which lead to me remembering everything about where I was at and what my intentions were before shit hit the fan. For the first time in years I felt as though I had made actual progress in my life, I had grown stagnant with no idea of how I could realistically improve my situation without sacrificing what little sanity I had left, I've since learned a great deal about myself and have even made solid plans for what I should do with my life in both the short and long terms (just kinda having to wait out the whole global pandemic situation though), turns out that it only takes an hour or two of focused thought once you actually know and understand yourself. Many claim that a piece of paper will have you believing yourself to be orange juice for the rest of your life which you will shortly end via violent means, others make extraordinary claims about aliens and telepathic communications, some of these claims make sense and al ot of them don't, but one thing is clear: psychedelics are an incredibly useful tool for personal growth and no-one should be discouraged from using them IF they're ready for it mentally and don't have reason to suspect themselves to have underlying mental illness. I'm glad to hear someone is on the same page with me and has been willing to do their research as anyone should in general regardless of the subject (seriously though DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH if you're going to be taking psychedelics). Keep it up man! Ps. I'm sorry if this comment is messy, it's 5am for me and I can't be bothered to proofread anymore.

I don't mean to nitpick but when you speak from a position of authority and intellectual superiority, you shuold verify your statements. At 4:03 you state that DMT is released in REM sleep. This hypothesis was first conceived by Rick Strassman but he has never implied that this is guarenteed truth. It has never been proven that DMT exists in human brains or releases at any point. The endogenous DMT that has been proven to exist in our bodies has not been shown to exist in large enough quantities to induce psychedelic experiences. (This next thing is an easy mistake to make so you may have mispoke but it is worth mentioning imo) Shortly after you state that the chemical name for psilocin is 4-HO-N,N-DMT but no such chemical exists. Psilocin's chemical name is 4-HO-DMT without the "N,N" (Which only applies to regular DMT).

I was thinking throughout this whole video that he could be cherry-picking information that benefits his statement, which is a very common thing many humans do. And it seems you have proved my point. It seems to me that something has happened in his life and he has refused to accept it and is using these drugs to cope with it to then later in promoting/justify this use of said drugs to make himself feel better. But then again, I don't know anything about the real story or about him as a person so I don't have any proof of what I am saying myself.

@@Max-xt1fo I think that's a bit of a stretch personally. He stated an unproven hypothesis that is thrown around a bunch, but everything else he stated is pretty accurate. I don't blame him for not knowing that the idea of DMT being an endogenous neurotransmitter is unproven, as many people in psychedelic communities throw the idea around as though its fact. Everything he's said has lined up with my research, so I highly doubt he was cherry-picking information. It is common to see users of cannabis and psychedelics justify the use of these drugs and I think it's silly to just write it off as them using it as a coping mechanism and lying to themselves. Especially given the reported nature of psychedelics, as they tend to force people to analyze things that they're lying to themselves about.

Hey Barry, I'm completely new to your channel and I didn't know why this video got recommended to me at first, but I clicked on it with very low expectations and ended up being very happy to find a gaming RU-vidr who's very aware of some incredible things about psychedelics. The hardest drug I've ever really done was laced weed and I can't remember what it was exactly laced with, but marijuana in general played a very strong role in me "awakening" to my eventual spiritual beliefs and habits. I put that word in quotation marks because I think the natural state of a human actually is to have their own spiritual habits and beliefs, be self governing and to test the levels and limits of their own consciousness, utilizing all that they learn with these tests to their own benefit. This is something that a lot of people might laugh at or not agree with, and put off as new age woo woo, but different people will open their eyes when their own time comes. I won't force anybody to adopt these beliefs cause these are my own, just as their beliefs are theirs, but I truly believe these things are necessary to live most optimally as a human being. I say this through enough experience within myself. Every perspective is just a suggestion that you can either take or discard anyway, and it's all within your own choice. I don't do any psychedelic substances any more, but with my practices, I can achieve natural highs and be in a feel good state all the time. I can do a lot more stuff with how I focus my mind, but those will seem too strange or unbelievable for most here so I won't say them. I see a future where these things can be openly spoken about though. Something in me is telling me that future is coming soon. It is absolutely your own choice and right to experiment with the substances that have more esoteric and spiritual associations, and it is absolutely amazing that you're speaking on these experiences and what you've seen and learned. Please keep doing so, this is your channel and from just this video, you're above the rest of the folks who do similar videos. I think it is the right of everyone to be able to speak about these weirder subjects without being shamed by those who are more stubborn in their scientific viewpoints, or for those whose entire library of knowledge has only been accumulated from mainstream sources. Cheers. And by the way, loving the Crysis 3 footage. You just reminded me to install the game again for another run.

the fact that some people will never have an acid trip is deeply sad as it is almost as important as the mental journey from adolescence to adulthood. You can never truly understand the world in the same way someone who has done acid the right way can. Not to say doing it will enlighten you automatically but over the course of a few targeted trips you will understand the world, philosophy, yourself, the meaning of life, your own insecurities, your own mental missteps, and a million other things so much better and comprehensibly than before. Just as you cannot explain the sensation of sight to a blind man you can't explain the mental conversion a trip takes you through. It turns off the part of your brain which controls your base mode, the default setting your brain has learned to assume throughout your life because of experiences and learning is turned off and your perception is turned up exponentially depending on how much you take. There is suddenly a barrier which your mind has grown calloused to that stimulus penetrates with ease, the difference between a good towel and a bad one sucking up a spill, your mind soaks all of the stimulus up and and it can get bottle necked as you try to process it. the feeling of terror and excitement as you come up is your brain desperately trying to adjust to the callosal wave of increased stimulation, but as you level out mentally, if you're capable, you achieve a new foothold in thought. The speed and clarity with which your mind works is unmatched to any other experience in life. One of the most interesting insights is that it's a very similar feeling to childhood, the patterns that emerge come from this heightened stimulation and the appearance and focus on the usually subconscious process of understanding what you're seeing. What happens to people where they get lost in a fantasy world or go into psychosis is because they're mind is weak or unprepared, the bottlenecking is too much for them and it breaks their mind which is why I assume some people see god or start believing mumbo jumbo. They might even have the right idea but its flawed by mysticism picked up because they couldn't handle the juice in their mind. Acid is a very neutral drug, it boosts your mind, removes barriers and as a result tunes you into a whole other realm of perception and analysis. The most important thing is start small and stay focused on reality checks. "Do I sound like a crazy person? If so why?" Run every realization through analytical rigor and don't accept realizations that you can't assure. The most important thing with acid is don't be stupid. Don't take shortcuts on planning, only trip with people you know and trust deeply, don't start with a large dose, stay focused on the fact that you are still in reality and losing control under the torrent of feeling will happen but is temporary, Surrender to the feeling don't fight it but once you're going with your mind not trying to understand or challenge you will eventually reach a point where you can apply logic, inching your way from being overwhelmed to a passionate exploration of ideas.

I had played a game when I started hallunicating and in my hallucination I kept playing the game, but I did completely different stuff from what I actually did and every once in a while I'd sort of "snap back to reality" and saw myself doing something completely different from what I had seen. Hey Barry, I've recently become really interested in PC gaming. I've played Xbox all my life but I think now would be the best time to switch to PC given the fact that more and more Xbox exclusives are becoming available there. I've currently got a really outdated Lenovo PC that can't be upgraded so I'm going to have to make a build from scratch. I just want to ask you if it is going to be possible to build a pc that can compete against the Xbox series X for a little cheaper. I know you don't really do tech stuff anymore but I've tried doing research on this and I can't find any clear answers. Either way I really enjoy these discussion videos, they feel like they fly by, and would love to see you make more in the future.

I don't really have much experience with psychs. I've done shrooms once, made me feel like I was dying, and melting when what was really happening was I was falling asleep so I feel like my one experience was kind of wasted. However, your depiction sounds really similar to when I used to have problems with sleep paralysis. For a year or so, I would very often fall into sleep paralysis and start hallucinating as a result. At first, it was all of the scary stuff you hear about. Demons, creatures, nightmares, but after a while, it started getting really comforting. Sometimes it would be my bf at the time cuddling me and telling me that this is going to be okay. Sometimes, just hearing monologs of people in my past. other time is was completely random like anime characters or if I fell asleep watching say a podcast. people in that podcast sitting in my room. It got kinda chill. Obviously, I know these are different experiences completely, but it's pretty interesting to hear about what sounds like that, but being completely lucid.

My most profound trip is when I hippie flipped. I quite literally was gossiping about myself with another thing (like an alien or something) as if I was out if my body and was just looking at me as another person. I saw a building or something being built right in front of me with shapes, I don’t know how to describe it, but just imagine lego kaleidoscopes assembling. The trip was just so insane, only way to imagine how insane it is, is just to straight up imagine shrooms and lsd mixed together, cause that is what it is. It was short like a shrooms trip, but like 10x more intense than an acid trip.

Speaking of addiction, I have one. Not chemical, but mental. I'm talking addicted to your own imagination. Curious? Well here's how I think it works for me: I have symptoms of Maladaptive Daydreaming. I had very vivid thought since childhood, which lead to it's current form for me, a show reel of some of the most expressive thoughts I could even create. I'm talking 2D and 3D animations, live action dramas and action, imagined gameplay from any genre, all of which are simply mediums to present on-going storylines from a man who was warp away from his lost world which later formed a group of multiversal wanderers. It sounds insane, but that is only a brief summary of the stuff created. It feels wrong to continuously feed into it when just siting still on the couch, cause when pure boredom sets in it feels like a sweet bliss. Total silence in the mind, other than you and your memories of who you are amd what to do next.

First hand experience treating autism with marijuana. I don't see myself letting go of it anytime soon (soon being the next year or so). Maybe I'll consider LSD one day if it's a comfortable environment, I do have a good source of info from someone who's taken it multiple times and they are quite intelligent. But don't worry Barry, I keep an open mind on these things. I do first hand research. Over the past year and a half, I feel it's (marijuana) helped accelerate my extroverted and social nature, matured, and it's continuing to do so as of writing. It temporarily melts the barriers so I can function but without making it a permanent, uncomfortable change in my life that I'll grow to resent. It's not being forced on me. It was more like a wide open gate that I was free to step in or out of anytime. And I liked what I saw, what I heard, what I felt. I feel like I have more empathetic capabilities now. Yet all the same I've been made to understand my limits and that responsibility is key to accessing these areas of...the mind. That quote at the end was beautiful, by the way. Someone we can admire in modern times and I'm sure, in times yet to come.

But today outta' curiosity I searched you up to see how you were doing and thought I'd drop in with my two pence. A long time ago a friend o' mine was really into Lucid Dreaming and advised I gave it a try 'cause of it's potentially positive effects on my mind, and I gave the same reasoning as I'm about to as for why recreational substances aren't for me. I think I'm scared of my own subconsciousness and what I may have to tackle head-on without a way to pull myself out easily. Perhaps I'm not in a healthy enough mental state to explore it's depths without coming out much worse for wear? This video's made me think about that, and I thank you for it. 'Hope there was something interesting in what I had to say.

Hey Barry. I have a question, but it’s a bit off topic. You say you are open minded, but how, exactly? Are you open to the idea that any form of beliefs can be true? If so, does that openness include belief systems that are mutually exclusive with all others? Basically, do objective truths and untruths exist (even if you haven’t found them yet), or is absolutely everything up for interpretation? Sorry if my questions were confusing; I like to think about stuff like this, but when I do it feels like trying to read a book with a dim light source.

Here is my opinion and my reasonings. Never will I ever take anything drug related, nothing that's even prescribed until I start to have heart failure. The only "drug" I will take is Ibuprofen. Caffeine makes me sleepy due to my ADHD so I drink a caffeinated drink once every month before bed, and it's not even that much. Caffeine can be dangerous, but not dangerous enough to kill you in the amount I drink it. I'm not interested in Weed. So many people have tried to get me to smoke it, uh, no I'm not going to. One thing I do know which it CAN be harmful, but only in one way, is, the hairs in your nose, can be burned off. But, I don't know how a blunt could possibly burn them personally, so, I wouldn't call that a danger. I've heard rumors about it being able to cause, fuck what's the word, Psychosis, such as, Schizophrenia. I also doubt this to be true, and haven't researched further into it YET but do plan to eventually to possibly end or confirm a rumor. Will never take a psychedelic. I have a very fragile mind set. I love too much, and get hurt by the smallest things. I have Schizophrenia, Autism, Acute Stress Disorder, child hood trauma to where if I hear a door open I'll get scared the fuck out of and have anxiety for the rest of the day, I have severe anxiety, ADHD, Multiple personality disorder (its name was changed recently but I don't give a shit) I have about 37 ish different people inside me and they're all entirely different people and I have a struggle for control. All of this combined together leads me to not want to risk ANYTHING. I'm too fragile and too easy to hurt, if I took, say, Shrooms, there could be a possibility that I come across something which will completely mess with me and cause me to rapidly change personality which often leads to a complete mental breakdown which leads to me being extremely aggressive towards other people and just a danger to myself and others around me. Yeah, not too safe. I'm not taking that risk. Cocaine, Heroine, etc. Obvious why I never want to take any. Prescriptions. I have a fond memory of how they have fucked me over. First Prescription I got was Adderal for my ADHD. For the 2 weeks I was taking it, I was malnourished and starving, and had zero motivation to eat. I had to stop taking it so I could start regaining nutrients and not get hurt. It also sped up my heart rate 2x, 150 bpm. After taking this medicine, my average heart rate for a year was 118, and was the stepping stone for the immense amount of anxiety I eventually started to develop from small things. Next medication was, unknown, about the negatives to the doctor. They still prescribed me. I started to gain weight. Dropped it within a week. I'm not going to fuck up my mental health more than it already is with having to worry about me being self conscious, I was raised with the mentality "Looks are everything." Truth is, I can barely function as a human being. My personality is multiple different people taped together and reinforced with Elmers Glue, and can be broken by the smallest things. When I can't suppress the voices, I go insane and start to snap at people, and have constant thoughts of giving up or hurting other people. And I mean constant. I'm a danger to society and can't risk taking drugs that might worsen it. I just can't. I've already hurt too many people, and I need to stay stable if I want to be with my girlfriend for the rest of my life. So, my opinion on these drugs? They can help some people. But also have the potential to ruin another's life. Everyone reacts to them differently, and mine just so happens to react negatively to them in the most terrifying way to me. I don't mind dying, but when it hurts other people, that's when it crosses the line. Stay responsible out there people. At least one person will always love you.

Many of the statements made regarding drugs are wrong so I appreciate you clearing up some misconceptions. I would however add that there are many valid reasons not to do psychedelics that don’t stem from an ignorant viewpoint. A few years back I have gotten close to losing my grip on reality (without ever doing any drugs). I now know and understand what got me to that point and I will in future recognize the signs if I‘m ever going down that path again. Yet I am still very careful and would never do drugs for that reason alone. I‘m not claiming this applies to anyone but me. Quite to the contrary I would encourage people to realize that individual experiences don’t necessarily translate between people and just because someone might not have an issue with doing a certain drug doesn’t mean you won’t either. On a lighter note: I don’t know why I didn’t watch any video from you in such a long time, it’s good to be back.

The message at the end of the video and how our exploration can lead to steps in our evolution is something like and agree on. Still I've tried a couple drugs as a teenager and really don't like the feeling. To much to deal with. Not for me.

Hey man, i just want to say that i really appreciate you spreading the word on psychedelics and its potential benefits, knowing that you will get some hate for it. Its just the world we live in today barry. Keep up the good work, and i reccomend you check out Carl Gustav Jungs work on the mind. Hes got a lot of good books that im 100% sure you will like. edit: and i have to add, i hope you already know this, but there IS people here that genuinely are interested in this, although they might be the quiet minority. Im one of them. Comments may be filled with people of opposite stances on this subject, but the like-dislike ratio is more important. 365 people have listened to this and gave it a like at the time im seeing this, and i got to say, it puts a smile on my face. Spread the word Barry!

I live in Colorado so psychedelics are a bit more accepted here, like Mushrooms are legal to consume and possess now, as long as you're over 21, but you can't sell them.

@@watersnortmoment3734 You're a lucky man! I live in Ireland, where pretty much everything is illegal. Know any ways in which an irishman such as myself can score some psychedelics? Shrooms grow around here, but dmt (powder form/leaves) are nowhere to be seen, nor is lsd or salvia. Only drugs that are sold around here is the bad potent stuff with no spiritual growth purpose, just getting fucked up... cocaine, ketamine, mdma. Weed too, which i am a fan of.

@@IXLDGOLD I legitimately have no clue, if mushrooms do grow there I'd probably do that, but you have to really make sure that they are the right kind. I'd be looking specifically for liberty caps because the mushrooms that have a similar appearance are not dangerous to ingest.

Took psychedelics im still really open about how i think they arent that dangerous HOWEVER im apparently one of those people who cant do any psychoactive drugs. I learnt it the hard way when i was in one moment tripping and the next strapped down in a hospital bed 3h later after a violent case of psychosis which im still trying to remember. Be really fucking careful if you do drugs. This was my 5th time tripping and nothing close to this had happened before

Is it really true that the brain produces DMT when you dream? I know it’s been found that rats produce it in their pineal glands and that it has been found endogenously in the human body but I’m not sure about the dream thing. I’m really curious about this.

Barry do you think there are other avenues you can take without ingesting drugs to get these experiences? I have an issue with letting myself be vulnerable with anyone it takes a lot of mental energy for me to vocalize how i feel about something or to translate my expressive thoughts from my default robotic voice. I have had some trauma from my childhood due to a massive head injury and surgery. I think that might be the cause of it. Do you think anything like meditation or supplementswould work in solving these problems? I'm asking you cause i know you've done extensive research on these subjects.

well crap man... I don't want to tell you what to do or not to do. I say study things that may seem like they could help. You can always meditate! Start with breathing excersises instead of substances!

That feeling of everything looking super crisp and that sense of some sort of joy and super awareness (or whatever), I had it once 5 or 10 minutes after I woke up of a faint.

I'm just glad I'm content with my own normal reality. I'm happy, I don't need or want to try anything other than coffee or panadol. Though it seems it's becoming less and less common for people to say they're happy like I am. Saying all that, I still believe legalizing weed would be a good thing for the majority of us.

I was wrong. This video managed to do what they used to for me, and amaze me with the amount of research done, and caution taken behind the scenes. Although you probably didn't see my comment on the last video, I should've known that your values and audience hasn't changed a whole lot, because many people actually read it. No other community reads my infrequent, long and somewhat regrettable comments like those, but your audience was open minded enough to. I think this video showed that I hadn't done the research, and I was foolish to assume I knew better. Telling the story of how it gave you back empathy and love was really powerful, and above all else made me realise that maybe some of this stuff isn't so bad. I always knew there were people saying good things about some of these drugs, but nobody can put it as well as you have. I always assumed it had some lasting impacts on your brain, and that it was a thing of "Oh I saw aliens, and it looked pretty real, therefore there are aliens" but obviously that was coming from a guy from the outside.
