Congrats, UV! I'm a vegan mom to four boys, including identical twins, and it's so fun! I mean, obviously it's a ton of work too! Yeah, I'm one of those mom's who def can't do Ferber. I get a chemical response when any babe cries. Science says no too. Even when I had twin newborns, I never let them cry it out. Now that you're pregnant, since you like data, I'd like to see some videos on vegan pregnancy-safety, nutrition, etc. I mean, I'm done having kids, but a vid like that would be helpful to so many veg-curious mothers-to-be.

The food thing is what it is. I had horrific morning sickness the entire time I was pregnant, as did my mum. Like, semi-regular IV's to get hydration and nutrients, and chemo nausea meds sick. A great OB basically said, "Eat what you want to eat. The most important thing is that you eat something and then work on the logistics later.". I think that's pretty valid. Like the parenting thing you mentioned, some people sweat the small stuff. Do the best you can and work on the logistics later. Congratulations on new baby!

Kalel made a video talking about wanting to start eating shellfish like clams and mussels once in a while to help with her iron deficiency(her hair is falling out, and she has pale eyelids among other symptoms and is getting a blood test done). She says she would rather not take supplements because she is afraid of overdosing on iron. (Of course there’s more to the story and you should watch that part of her new video, but...) What do you think about this?

I spent 4 weeks tapering off and have been off completely for about 2 weeks now. I still don't feel quite normal, but I'm pretty sure I've gotten past the worst of it, fingers crossed. I'm still feeling the weird, not quite dizziness, not quite headache feelings, but the irritability has passed and my mood is leveling out. I wish I had more advice for you, but I'm still figuring it out myself. It's definitely a longer process than I realized when I started, I hope it is not too much longer for you and that you have some understanding people around you :)

Maureen Montecalvo awww hun I hope it ends soon!!! I stopped cold turkey because I ran out and morning sickness (bulllllshit it was twenty four seven sickness lmfao) and fatigue made it impossible for me to force myself to get out of bed and reschedule an appointment, and I feel “good”. Brain jitters were horrible it felt like I’d get zapped or had a seizure for a few minutes randomly but they passed and now about two months free of them, and having talked with my doctors they think the pregnancy is actually helping rewire my brain correctly. Have you had any experience with placenta pills for helping with postpartum depression?? I’m willing to try anything that will mean I won’t have to take medicine again for as long as possible! Like I’m high risk, I have enlarged blood vessels, a brain avm, and aneurysms on my carotid artery....and to top it off severe morning sickness and acid reflux to the point I’ll throw up blood. But hey do I complain about it being hard all the time like she does? Oh her hip is splitting apart? Cute. But Nope. That complaining gets old real quick and that’s why people don’t want to hear it. Hell I haven’t even posted a picture of me being pregnant till I got my maternity pictures done. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Congrats! Happy for you guys :) I want to raise one suggestion: Can you talk about cholesterol? (I am really having issues with everyone I know every time we speak about eggs yolks!). Studies around this one are completely all over the place, there is so many sources which are actually talking about benefits from eating cholesterol rich foods, how yolks are the most nutritious thing anyone could ever eat while some are promoting that 3-4 yolks per week would be just fine. My boyfriend is eating 4 eggs per DAY (fitness brainwashed mind) and I really get worried for him (mainly because I am not sure how to approach to that issue). On the side that I am suffering from budget sharing with animal product consumer, I am primarily worried for his health.

Weird tip for the heartburn: I found that the only thing that will really calm down my heartburn is dill pickle juice (I use Claussen, on sale this week at Kroger). Super strange, but I was desperate and tried it and had immediate relief that lasts for hours. Tums actually cause you to make more acid over time since neutralizing the acid causes your stomach to make more to compensate.

Congratulations on the baby news! I have not been a follower for long, but I did watch your video on PPD and after watching this video I just want to say - please talk to someone or research the dependency between hormones and depression and hormonal contraception and depression. There are multiple studies which came out in the last years about it. From my own experience, I was not depressed, but stopping the pill made such a huge difference in my mood that after giving birth I decided to switch to a IUD.

I missed this video because I was on holiday, but RU-vid suggested it for me :D Congrats and I would love to see more videos about pregnancy and parenting, if you're into talking about that. Regarding parenting methods, I'm surprised at what you said. I've been reading a lot about that and I believe RIE is the best method out there. Reggio Emilia is cool too. But of course, people should do whatever works for them and it ends up being a mix of what we think makes sense in different methods. It is proven that the experiences and relationships humans have in the first 6 years of life really shape our world view and personality, especially about being anxious or relaxed, happy or depressed, social or shy, etc. Psychologically traumatic situations are proven to lead to mental and physical health issues. I come from a family of kindergarden and pre-school teachers, so trust me. What we do as parents has a huge impact on our child's personality and future. I want to become pregnant soon, so I'm very interested in this kind of stuff.

I don't know if this is weird or anything, but when my boyfriend started Cymbalta, he felt better within a day. His stomach really hurt, but he already felt better. Not as good as a good number of weeks in, especially since his stomach stopped hurting and he could get up and do life, but better. It was crazy how things were before he started medication. It was something he liked to conceal unless it was very bad. Then, the only person he would confide in would be me (and whether I was in a place to handle this obviously had no factor in whether it happened). Then he would want to be alone and I would be very afraid to leave him alone and very afraid for his welfare (though he would reassure me). He would say he was always sad and had been for a long time, and then he would get mad and say it was my fault (what?). Very hard to know how to respond as the girlfriend of someone having this go on in their head. It was also very painful to learn how to know he was feeling bad when he didn't want to tell me, to see it in his face, to wonder how often he was like this, and to try to help and to comfort and know I couldn't. This has not happened since he started. He still can feel sad of course, but it is nowhere near the depths of consuming sadness and it is not nearly constant anymore. Needless to say, we are very terrified of stopping medication. When the time comes to try and see whether the problem is 'fixed', it is going to be nerve-racking. I can totally imagine how this felt for you. There were probably 5 conversations of 'you need to see a therapist again/ you need to get on something' which he would completely agree with although he admitted it scared him, especially the not knowing if he was going to feel like himself and the suicidal thoughts/ anorgasmia risk (which was way more significant in his head than it is, and we had some changes, rewiring really I think, but no permanent issues). He actually picked up his prescription for several months unbeknownst to me before enough was enough and he started taking it. He's definitely the same, but he smiles so often it's crazy. I didn't really realize it had been almost nonexistant too much before but I have really noticed the return, I didn't expect it to affect ME so much but it doe- it makes me so happy when we're apart to remember him smiling and having laughing fits. Sometimes if I'm upset it just pops into my head and makes me smile. If you are depressed and you can't get past the fear of trying medication, just do it. Get past the adjustment and if you have the right one everything is so, so much better. Every day.

It’s not true that there is no evidence that cry-it-out can be harmful. There are lots of experts who are against sleep training and even The Australian Institute of infant mental health recommends responsiveness in infancy for the mental health of children. Why would it be wrong to let a 10 year old cry but not a baby? Evolutionary Parenting has tons of very good research on why you shouldn’t sleep train your child.

Are you checking the fetus for disabilities? Or did you check your and your partners gene compatibility before conceiving? I've been thinking a lot about that lately. I don't know yet if I would do these things if I decide to have kids. So I was wondering what you think about that.
@UnnaturalVegan
@UnnaturalVegan 6 лет назад
Yes. Last time we did nuchal translucency screening and the quad screen. This time we did the Harmony test (NIPT). Even you wouldn't terminate the pregnancy if the child had high risk, it's still good to know upfront to be prepared. NIPT is the best in terms of screening, but isn't usually covered unless you're over 35.
@Kaleysia
@Kaleysia 6 лет назад
@@UnnaturalVegan Of course you're right that it would be best to be prepared. In my anxiety riddled mind the logic goes something like this "I don't feel able to make the decision if or not to abort a fetus with certain disorders so I'll just stick my head in the sand and hope nothing happens". I know this logic is completely irrational and potentially dangerous. My rational mind and my irrational one are fighting over that I guess. (That's what therapy is for, wohoo!) If it's not too personal to ask: Were you very anxious for the results of these tests? Or was it more like "Meh, I'll deal with it when I know the results".

@Kaleysia

@TheOrigen89 In my opinion it's just cruel if you bring a disabled child into the world just because of diversity or because you think it's cute. If I would bring a child with a disability into this world it would be from a place of fear for my own mental health, since I don't know if I would be able to handle the impact of knowing I consciously ended a potential conscious life. Not that I think that's inherently bad, I am pro choice, but that's sadly how my anxiety works. I don't think that would be cruel, since the life of a disabled person isn't inherently terrible and they can be productive members of society (depends on the type of disability of course, and I would take that into consideration). While I believe my husband and I to be 'intelligent' - seeing as we both had a great institutional education and are very aware of the problems this world is facing - I don't necessarily agree with you that there's a "duty to breed" for us. We could impact the world in a similar positive way by spending our time on influencing a lot of 'stupid' (or as I'd rather call it: less educated) people by educating them on making the right choices for themselves and their children. I know that intelligence is influenced by genes, but education fitting a persons needs also plays a big role. Do you see what I mean? Also: Intelligence isn't the only important thing. What if my mental health issues are genetic? We don't need more people with mental health issues. What's worse? Lesser Intelligence or lacking mental health? This question is not as easy as it seems, that's why I struggle so hard with this decision. And apologies for the long text, I like to be thorough with explaining my reasoning :)

When I was pregnant I couldn't get enough of spicy stuff! And that was before the insanely hot hot sauces became more mainstream so I was stuck munching on jalapenos out of the jar dipped in Tobasco. lmfao

So excited for you and the growing family! Would love you to do a series where you talk to other vegan moms to talk about tips or something? It just sounds cool!

Congrats! Funny story: I think it was a few videos ago you mentioned not wanting smoothies because the thought of old bananas wasn't appealing to you. My first thought was, "Is she pregnant?"

You are one brave momma! I was sick my entire pregnancy. Then labor was incredibly painful so I stayed away from sex for a while lol

All the best for you and your family! 😘🍀 I have one idea for a video: could you do something about the zero waste movement? Especially concerning the supposed dangers of packaged food like vegan sausages, tofu... Regards, Ingrid

Might sound a strange question, but do you use concealer under your eyes? your face seems so fresh. I have awful dark circles under my eyes.
