I've had this happen. I was billed as uninsured for $600, and then when they applied insurance I got a corrected bill for $5k with insurance covering half of that. I ended up paying 4x the uninsured quote. To make it more insulting, my health insurance plan costs roughly 10% of my salary. I'd rather take the pay.
The fact that a doctor , who went to school for nearly a decade, can recommend you get a test done.... then insurance can just say nope.... has always seemed insane to me.
These Insurance companies are still making money even if they paid out with the majority of these "unnecessary" tests. Insurance in its current form is basically gambling but unlike gambling you are forced to play. Should be a law that the amount you pay is the amount they have to shell back out if a doctor asks for it.
American insurance companies are people who are the most ignorant to healthcare running how people get their care. In my opinion, throw the whole system out and start again from scratch. This healthcare system is criminal in and of itself.
They won't do that, though, because the government is basically paid to ignore this crap, just like all the issues with guns. (Not saying get rid of guns, we just need much better regulations on them, and to stop giving people assult rifles.)
I'm so sorry you have to deal with all that insurance nonsense! Aside from that, I hope you can get to the bottom of your current condition and that you have a speedy recovery!
I noticed how much you gave our homeboy Styro so now I'm sitting over here crying like a little girl. That's not an insignificant amount of money to just hand over to some guy you don't really know. What got my cryballs leaking was the simple fact that when you saw a fellow brocicle getting boned by the long, evil, vampire schlong of an insurance company you said no sir! Not today Mr. Evil Vampire Schlong!!! What I'm trying to say is, thanks for being a good dude when so many others choose not to.

For your insurance, for future reference, you can ask for a list of all individuals who had a say in denying your claims. 99% of the time they will change their decision BECAUSE most insurance companies have people who are NOT medical professionals looking for key words in your claim to accept or decline it, which is a MAJOR HIPPA violation.
Think that’s the same in Canada? I use to work for an insurance company in Canada and it definitely wasn’t like that, the client would have to provide all medical documentation from the attending physician and any hospital records, then the adjuster makes the decision from their based on set out rules the client would have already agreed to.
@@oneup12 its pretty much the same for alot of different insurances around the world. They all just hire some people who read the claims but arent actually professionals. Watched a report on that stuff happening where i live (Germany) aswell.

Insurance claim specialist here! I can tell you right now you may have accidentally uncovered some fraud or something of that insurance company, that pricing is most certainly not supposed to work like that. Also they need reasonable cause to deny a cost coverage for something, if you’re getting tests done for what sounds like a potentially life altering condition then they cannot refuse (by law). This all makes me very curious who you have insurance through.

As an EMS provider, it pains me that we have to convince critical patients to come by ambulance. Nobody should ever be at risk of death because they fear their insurance company.
You should be able to bill insurance for your time. And I should be able to bill providers for my time when I have to make hours worth of phone calls to make corrections and when I’m in the waiting room for an hour beyond my appointment being scheduled.

Also, the trick to having procedures denied is to ask the insurance company the name of the *medical professional* who denied the the prodecure. 99% of the time, insurers do not have doctors on staff-- and they never want to be caught out on that. So they will *usually* approve the procedure in short order.
6:52 The way it works: The hospital has a "real" price - they charge this if you don't have insurance The hospital sets the price higher, and the insurance pays that markup, or some of it
And than you don’t pay the hospital bill. They can’t go on your credit report. Actually I just looked it up and I guess it can go on your credit if the hospital reports it to the credit bureau- but most don’t. I have never paid my hospital bills and my credit is decent ~700. Not ruined.
Everyone always harps on "Free Healthcare" but That's the criminal aspect of it right there. I rarely see people that will tell you the actual problem, getting scammed by hospitals. Whats the meme again, $900 for a bag of water? I think there would be a very nice middle ground of "free healthcare" and "free market" if they just were legally prevented from charging insane prices for things that are normally reasonably priced.
The insurance will pay less than half the quoted amount, which is why the hospitals inflate the amount due if you have insurance. However, you can negotiate the price you've been billed, just the way your insurance would have. So tell them you'll pay half of it, max. They should accept that, they're not losing out, there's still a profit margin even with you doing some horse trading. They're just used to being beaten down on the price. The American healthcare system is a cancer in and of itself.

Paying thousands for health insurance just so you have the priviledge of paying more for a treatment is next level scam. It's like paying someone to rob you. 0 people should pay for health insurance for a good 10 years just so all the insurance corporations can go bankrupt and start fresh from there. I hope you solve this and get better, your videos are my favorite!
US law prevents an effective boycott of bad health insurance. Employers have to pay payroll tax on wages. This makes them want to pay people less. To compete for decent workers with low wages, companies give out health insurance as a perk. Since the boss isn't the one USING the insurance, they don't care if the insurance is any good, it just has to LOOK good on paper. TLDR health insurance sucks because no one pays for it, employers do as a tax writeoff. Changing (reducing or eliminating) payroll tax is necessary to fix health insurance.
@@joemerino3243 Funny how that works out, you can't fix a problem by just shifting around who's on the hook for the cost. I wonder how many times we have to re-learn the lesson of "if you force everyone to have something, the people selling it will jack up the price" i mean wasn't student loans a clear enough example of that? That's just the health insurance industry in the US. That's just how it is. It's fucking disgusting, and the fact that we can't get more than what is considered "the fringe" in our society to agree that single payer healthcare is the only real option here is going to be one of our many downfalls.
@@martenthornberg275Healthcare companies lobby (bribe) Congress into keeping them from doing anything to actually do proper healthcare, and a lot of people here would rather pay for health insurance than collectively pay for healthcare for them and their fellow countrymen. Low income folks get healthcare through their state's Medicaid program and Native Americans (American Indians, arrow not dot for Europeans) get free healthcare (I get mine being a citizen of the Cherokee nation), but besides that it's not great if you're a regular old working class individual unless your job pays for your healthcare.
Hey styro. I'm a doctor in NY. Extremely high levels of testosterone is suspicious for something called Leydig cell tumor which is a type of testicular cancer. This is common in young men. There would be other biochemical markers but I would recommend you getting a testicular ultrasound. You can also do self exam to see if you can feel any lumps or painless swelling. I understand it may be overwhelming with the feeling of uncertainty regarding your health but I urge you to undergo more testing as it is a type of cancer and can potentially be cured if caught early.
And FSH/LH levels... Which were probably already done if the endocrinologist looked over your pituitary testosterone axis. Hell get a general DNA test and look for androgen sensitivity issues.
Funny enough Styro acts a lot like I did before I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Guessing my testosterone was way high too. I was actually 35ish when I was diagnosed. 2 doctors told me I didn't have it. But in one month a testicle got BIG and heavy! It was like a rock! It didn't feel like it was part of my body anymore. I had an ultrasound years prior and they said it was scar tissue. In other words doctors can't really tell and it's such a low impact cancer usually that you wouldn't dare to take a biopsy. I got that problem removed and opted for 2 years of cat scans to check my retroperitoneal (or something like that). It was a good move as that was 10 years ago and I've had no issues, plus didn't have to do chemo or radiation (which damages your body immensely). My testosterone is normal and I don't have any ED issues even at almost 50! So don't freak out, but be prepared to handle the situation quickly if you have it. That could keep you in 1A as opposed to waiting and pretending nothing is wrong.
I hope you can answer my question seriously. Should the bottom of the testicle have any kind of discernible bump or ridge? Should I be concerned if I can feel the tail of epididymus? It’s painless, to a point. Is this the kind of thing I should be concerned about? Or is this normal nut stuff?
6:32 - It seems quite common, it's much more messed up than you think, the insurance companies and the hospitals play this game where they send out a quote for more than double the price, the insurance company will refuse to pay, then the hospital and the insurance company will negotiate a lower price, then the hospital will write it off as a loss on their tax, even though it's not a loss. It's a scam.
Often the quote the insurance get's is like 20x the actual cost, you have to personally cover like 10% of that, which is still 2x of what you would pay without insurance.
I remember my endocrinology professor saying a throwaway line going something like 'some people obviously are born with totally crazy hormone levels that get somehow compensated by feedback mechanisms/counteracting hormones and they are totally fine and will never even know till they show up with a bonkers blood test'
Right, it's not until the medical money system scares People half to death with fear, and the insurance money system adds anxiety, which is the other half of a deadly recipe for bad health. It's no wonder these companies lobby govt to make noninvasive, frequency and electronic, healing devices, invisible. Rarely for Your safety, always for their profit.

I don't think I'll ever have a legacy quite like you though. Mad scientist that is loved by nature like a Disney princess - I think that's kind of unbeatable. But you helped me see the beauty in the smallest, to the grandest things in nature and life. And it's so peculiar and intrinsic to our own human experiences, one could almost call it magic. Thanks for being a reason for another guy to NOT settle on the mundane, and to try to see what is never as it seems. Hope everything goes well with you and I'm sorry for all the scary up and down news of dealing with agency-esque bs. I do believe you still have a lot of legacy to give, man. And truly, I'll be looking forward to it.
No but he's not though and that's the problem. He has some kind of androgen insensitivity where his receptors aren't responding to all that testosterone.
@@steveballzack1409 Yup. My naive self is surprised that this wasn't the first angle they looked at -- if his T level increased ~recently from normal levels without insensitivity, I'd expect it to cause noticeable symptoms.
Liver symptoms can also present as things that don't look like liver issues. My younger brother had a full liver transplant at 18. His immune system basically ate his liver by the time he was 14 full blow end stage liver disease
Just found you after watching Nile Red and Codys Lab for years. Surprised I haven't seen you until now. RU-vid algorithm for ya. Wishing the best for you man, wherever this is at now!
@@qwerty-wz1yk Not that scary as a youngin' you're first in line for a transplant and youngin's can last for decades on dialysis. Kidneys can fail in young persons for a variety of reasons, but most commonly, kidney stone blockage or excess protein damage.
@@VarietyGamerChannel I heard excess protein can't damage kidneys and that is a myth. Unless of course your kidneys are already damaged and can't deal with protein.
As someone battling a terminal disease myself, I know first hand how ridiculously unethical insurance companies can be, even if you pay them out of pocket annually. Our entire medical industry is completely and utterly broken!
I’d recommend edible cannabis. The thick gooey brown stuff if its cancer. If its something else edible cannabis will help your daily outlook. Walking can heal the body in ways you wouldnt believe. Sitting around dying is what Insurance companies want you to do. Hospice is very profitable for them somehow.

I've got a rare blood cancer that mimics eczema and psoriasis. The itching makes you go insane from the body harm and lack of sleep. I don't know what insurance my mom had but it's been saving me or i'd be doomed
Thanks god we are not required here in my country Just learn to keep some money in case of emergency or have some friend that u really trusted...that can lend some money
A 12 day stint in the hospital racked up a $180k bill for my dad with health insurance. There is no way to save for something like that. Thankfully, his actual way of not paying it is paying $25/month until he dies. He'll never pay more than what it likely would be in a country with more of a soul than the US, and the debt stays with him. @kiro253
Most Americans *aren’t* required to have health insurance anymore. Yes the Affordable Care Act in 2010 did effectively require it (with tax penalties if you didn’t) but that went away in 2019. Now only a few states - CA, NY, MA, RI, VT, and DC - still penalize you if you don’t have health insurance.
You can fly to multiple places in Europe for medical tourism. The flight, doctor visits + tests and the vacation will be cheaper than the American healthcare you pay $10k a year which doesnt cover you. It is what I did, I went to Greece for plastic surgery to reconstruct the left side of my face and ear because of a drunk driver, in total the cost was only 4.6k and they did a great job. In the US I was looking at tens of thousands of dollars.
Honestly, this. I'm Ukrainian and have relatives abroad (US, Canada, etc). So many of them used to travel here for dental, and I don't blame them in the slightest. The travel, the stay, tourism and the dental altogether costs so much less for the same or even better results than you can get in the US. I'm horrified every time I hear about US healthcare honestly.
