@@joegarza7220 - How Trump supports our military and veterans: 1. Trump appointed a non-veteran to head the VA who resigned due to corruption charges. 2. Trump has redirected funds from the VA to private healthcare companies which are campaign donors. 3. Trump has insulted POW's, MIA's, and families of war dead. He says POW/MIA's are turncoats. 4. When Special Forces were killed in Niger, he said they were killed by "real fighters." 5. Trump used men with sterling military careers like Flynn, McMaster, Kelley, and Mattis to gain credibility while heaping scorn, derision, and insults on them. 6. Trump stocked his cabinet with chickenhawks that never served who serve foreign commercial interests. 7. Trump received five deferments and says he "is smarter" than those who served. 8. Trump says he "knows more than all our generals combined" despite not serving. 9. Trump said that not getting VD in college was "his Vietnam." 10. During 2015-16, he promised to make donations but he didn't. He donated in 2018 when the press found out he hadn't. 11. Trump called homeless veterans with PTSD weak. His family hasn't served going back to his grandfather who came here to avoid military service in Germany. 12. Trump attacked the leadership of our military and intelligence community when they have failed to endorse his assessments of hostile foreign nations. 13. Trump has slandered our long term allies insisting he could run their governments BETTER when he has failed to live up to his promises. 14. Trump has sought support from hostile foreign nations to undermine our ally's democracy. 15. Trump has sought support from hostile foreign nations to undermine OUR democracy. 16. Trump and Jared have accepted billions from the same Saudi Royal family that recruited, organized, trained, equipped, and bankrolled the hijackers which killed 2,379 Americans on 911. And who still sponsor ISIS, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and Pakistani ISI. 17. Trump bragged that he had the tallest building in NYC after 911. 18. Trump said he was at ground zero clearing debris and recovering bodies when he was on television bragging about having the tallest building in NYC. He said he was in NJ watching Muslim immigrants dancing in the streets at the same time. 19. Trump and Jared received payouts from the 911 victims fund when NONE of their property was harmed and the tenancy was at a record high. 20. Trump wanted to spend millions for a military parade because he was envious of the parades his friends Kim and Putin have. 21. Trump has repeatedly defended Kim whose grandfather started the Korean War which killed 54,246 Americans and whose family has killed millions of their countrymen including his brother. Trump defended his friend Putin saying he couldn't have shot down an airliner, invaded Ukraine, or poisoned his rivals with radioactive waste and nerve agents. 22. Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush JR, and Obama spent Thanksgivings and Christmases with our troops. Trump used phone calls, traffic, and golf as an excuse to not visit our troops. He made one short visit after Christmas in 2018 to an airbase. 23. During the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I, he canceled a visit to Belleau wood cemetery because it was raining. He said why should he visit dead suckers and losers? He met with Putin in private instead. Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush JR, and Obama all stood in cold pouring rain multiple times to honor our war dead. 24. Trump broke the tradition of Presidents paying respect, on Veteran’s Day, at Arlington. After criticism, he showed up for 15 minutes in 2018. 25. Trump's “Thanksgiving call” to the troops was complaining about his legal troubles. 26. Trump bragged our military received a 10% raise (2.6%). He said it was the first raise in 10 years when they received raises every year. Congress approves pay raises, not Trump. 27. Trump defunded schools on military bases for his wall. 28. Trump has asked for two huge defense budgets to "beef up our military" and "give our troops a raise" and then diverted funds to his wall project with zero oversight. 29. Trump attacks the family of a war hero and insisted the ship bearing his name be covered to not upset him. He said it was for America's good, not his. 30. Trump recently said our intelligence agency's efforts to defend the USA from Putin and Kim's hostile actions are "treason". 31. Trump wants to deny citizenship to the children of service members born overseas while on deployment. 32. The head of the RNC proposed that D-day commemorations be dedicated to the celebration of Trump's accomplishments from now on. 33. Bowe Bergdahl the infamous Taliban deserter and Benedict Arnold, has spent more time in uniform protecting this country than all of the men of the Trump family combined. 34. Trump bragged to Laura Ingraham about how he sold our troops to Saudi Arabia. 35. Defended his "friend" Putin who places bounties on our soldiers.

This reminds me of a few years ago when I was studying ISIS. When new people would go join them, like from Europe, the ISIS leaders would _immediately_ have that person execute a prisoner. Often in the most brutal manner. It was done to make them psychologically unable to leave and go back home. They felt they couldn't "go back." Once a person does that, they are much less likely to be able to leave. These young Russian soldiers are being psychologically manipulated in the same way. They will continue doing it. Note: Being forced or ordered, as Lt. Gen. Hertling says, doesn't give them an excuse. I can just see that the Russian commanders may not only be just desperate to gain control, they are also psychologically torturing their own people to get them to do what is wanted and to control them.

Locking whole villages in barns or churches and set them on fire f.e.. First noticed with the nazi-german army - and then found with every bigger war since then. No matter the nationality. It can only be countered with a proper command structure - mostly. The russian military seems not been aware of it or just use it to put terror on the normal people. Doomed? The U.S. is controlled by the descendants of Nazi's who invaded in 1935 and committed genocide on the American people. Don't know about this? That's how many people they killed in the U.S. For instance, these Nazi's found Nazi's in Ukraine to support. And their hatred for Russia is because if not for Russia the Nazi's would have taken over the world and there would have been world wide genocide only seen in Star Wars movies and there would be NO Russia today. All the Russian people would have been executed. All of them. WW II is not over yet. And these Germans who occupy and control the US want to finish the destruction of Russia that they started in the beginning of WW II. This is the entire reason for U.S. support of the war in Ukraine and all the wars they have been in since 1945. See, Murder of the Creoles of New Orleans 1935, RU-vid. My father was there. I went to school in the USA that was mostly for German kids. I have a half sister and a half brother who have the same Nazi father in the USA. And Nazi's murdered people in every country they occupied so they probably control many of those other EU countries as well. Hitler was in the U.S. when he started the war in Europe. That was his double who died in that bunker in Berlin. Hitler lived in Rhinebeck, New York until the early 70's. The prize was always the U.S..

This isn't new however. Western, more specifically the US military utilizes a decentralized command structure which gives field-level command elements the ability to make decisions, whereas Russia (and old Soviets) use a more centralized command structure. This is evident in how this war has gone for them. They're very slow to adapt to what's happening on the battlefield and keep running into the same ambushes and getting air assets shot down in their same areas of operation.

True. Putin and his corrupt military leaders are so blood thirsty they have NO FEELINGS for the soldiers they command. They're just as guilty of war crimes against their soldiers as they are against the Ukrainians These Russian soldiers that make it through alive will be so mentally and emotionally scarred for life. It wouldn't be unheard of for them to go on killing rampages later in life. But they would be trying to kill those who put them in that mental state of being by ordering them as immature soldiers to kill and main their supposed enemies that they know wasn't really their enemies but victims of ordered war crimes. And Putin is decorating and awarding these killer commanders, which puts the idea in these young minds, that killing will get you rewarded. Most of the Russian soldiers sent to Ukraine are untrained beyond just knowing how to discharge their assigned weapons. They're told you fire or you'll be fired upon. Fear can cause a lot of chaos. But the commanders use that fear against the soldiers to get them to commit atrocities

It seems obvious he is young and not so wise but at least he tried to appease the experience for those concerned. It doesn't mean, he needed to, should have, or that he couldn't have done something else, but he tried to do, at that, at so much that. This is nonsense. Russians are ruthless and cruel. They did the same thing as during WWII. They haven't changed a bit.

In our military by contrast, our members are trained to be thinkers as well as fighters. What Russian generals are tasked with; the US military gives those tasks to more junior officers. But what the Russians really lack is a dedicated Corps of NCOs, the institutional glue of any military. If Officers were the brains, and the Enlistees the muscles, the NCOs are the vital organs.

Utter nonsense. You know that if you are floating in space and a meteor whizzes past, it's impossible to tell if the meteor is actually moving or if it's you. He is so young. I looked like that when I became a SGT in the Army. So difficult to imagine myself in his predicament. I had been taught the concept of illegal orderrs but a young soldier can so easily be shamed or bullied into committing war crimes as I saw during Vietnam. The Mei Lai massacre is a very good example. Young inexperienced Officer pushing very angry and pumped up bunch of guys wiyh the average age of around und 20 yrs old. I am not excusing his actions but there were cases of squadmates pushing and ordering the newbies to participate in crimes of war, I was considered very mature at 21. I was a good soldier and made rank fast and was given my strpes very quickly but I remember so well that soldiers even 4 or 5 years older and especially those who had been to the Nam seemed and looked older and so "aged" that given order to do wrong in the heat of battle would be soul and gut wrencking moment..
@oliver_twistor

I agree. Something to consider is that while in the US military, a disobeyed order might land you in jail or at least getting yelled at and ridiculed, in the Russian military would likely get you killed. Can one really demand some 18 year old kid to do such a sacrifice, to rather be killed than to kill another? I feel that many people who comment on stories like this fail to realise that Putin's Russia isn't like the US or Sweden where I come from. You can't just refuse or say that it's illegal. The whole political system setup by Putin is illegal and corrupt. If he followed laws, he shouldn't rig elections, assassinate journalists and dissidents, invade countries, bomb civilians, censor media. When the whole operation in Ukraine is one big illegal mess, can we really blame a young conscript for doing the thing he did?

It's not just shaming or bullying. Russian officers were killing young soldiers who didn't follow orders to kill civilians and prisoners. In one case with a grenade. That doesn't change the guilt for killing a civilian but it should be considered when sentencing him.
