I'm So Confused.....

The more I listen, the more I love. I’m ready for some Jon Mess Era with Andrew supporting.

As someone that grew up in the Tilian era. He grew on me a lot especially that i started DGD since Happiness. But honestly as long as Will keeps making fire sounds, I'll keep listening to these guys.

Andrew said it himself, the band wants to lean more towards writing around Jon's screams. Andrew's cleans are jus to fill the void and as of right now is not even guaranteed to be permanent. Consider this the "trial era"

Ever since I heard Andrew on Evaporate I always wanted this moment to come

People are going to be unhappy with WHATEVER comes next, it doesn't matter what. DGD understands that I think, and they are just trying to do their thing the best they can do it, and I seriously respect them for it. I think Sergio Medina on bass is a bigger influence than people know, he's seasoned in this genre and has a "sound" (I'm a big fan of his stuff). That second song definitely has Sergio's sound in it. I personally love it, and I love Andrew's voice, so I'm super excited for what's coming next!

Andrew's voice is good, right? But it just don't stick out like Tilian's did. Or at least stick out above the mix like his did. His voice gets kinda buried. Definitely doesn't feel as groovy and poppy as tilian's DGD is. Makes me sad.

Something about the mix on Andrews vocals wasnt hitting for me on this one, too distorted and too far back. idk

Hmmm.. the Gobbler seems like it represents an awfully familiar recently departed vocalist based on the subject matter of the videos and lyrics.. especially in "straight from the heart"

one of the melodies from “Straight from the heart” reminds me so much of Skyhook

On first couple of listens, I'm pretty on the fence. I've never disliked Andrew's vocals, but these couple songs, they seem so overproduced and buried in the mix. But after seeing his newest interview that dropped a little bit ago about the future direction of the band, and hearing him describe the new direction as "Secret Band+", I'm gonna remain cautiously optimistic.

I think with the recent lineup change it will take some time for these songs to be appreciated.

Am I the only one who thought the vocals sounded like they were meant for Tilian?? Even the sound effects on Andrew’s voice make him kind of sound like Tilian in a couple of spots

Okay hear me out. DGD should might as well make the next album features numerous vocalists. One of them should be Anthony Kiedis and have him write bidingdangbingbong california to accompany Jon's riding a rhino pico de gallo type of lyrics

I really like Andrew but this is sounding more like a screamo random band. I must recognize that I felt in love with dgd during the tilian era and I feel this is missing something.

I'm totally cool with DGD going the route of like a Of Mice & Men balance with clean and dirty vocals. BLESS THIS MESS

Maybe in a couple years we will look back into this exact songs the way we look at happiness in the regard that in some moments you are sure you hear a vocalist but at the same time it feels like it was intended to be another. (Referring to Jon mess screams in happiness if lost) but I don't know. Definitely feels weird. Personally weirdest than the happiness mess but maybe this will grow on me with time. It just feels like jon an andrew parts are 2 songs and not one. And I definitely don't want dgd to become secret band, we already have secret band Edit: sorry if bad written not my native language

My takes on the songs is that they are just fine, they're not trying to accomplish anything big with these two songs, that's how I see it anyways. I know with singles that should be more of the goal in mind. But yeah I don't love the songs but I don't hate nor mind them

The second song is way better and thats because its going far away from the poppiness of the first song. Im tired of extremely poppy dgd and with tillian gone im ready for them to get more proggy and experimental

Mess era

Andrew on evaporate was perfection. I was pretty optimistic about him taking over vocals (if he did) but I'll admit even after half a dozens listens, these songs aren't doing it for me. I think it's a combination of factors. That being said. I am all for more Jon mess in dgd. Especially want to see some heavier DGD return

Gotta say, as somebody who Jon Mess and screamo as a whole grew on as I discovered this band…I’m really bummed that they’re going for even more screamo than before. Bloodsucker, Evaporate, a whole chunk of Jackpot Juicer, Ghost of Billy Royalton, and War Machine are some of my favorite songs, and Jon’s a big reason for that. He kills it and is clearly extremely talented. But unless everything’s clicking like it was on those songs, I usually find myself wishing clean vocals made up more of most of their songs, and that DGD employed the screamo in far shorter bursts. Carl Barker’s a great example of that. It’s so unfortunate that the band and Tilian went seperate ways. Dude was the face, gap tooth and all, of a legendary decade-long run that propelled this band to new heights in all facets. But hey, maybe this is the “creative differences” they were talking about as they announced the split. At least the composition + instrumentals are impeccable as always, thank you for that Mr. Swan, Medina, and Mingus. Edit: These just feel more and more like Eidola songs with Will Swan cameos as I keep listening to them. Straight from the Heart honestly doesn’t even sound like Will’s on it, actually. Obviously Andrew being the only Clean Vocalist has a large effect, but still.

I think the funky creativeness that Tim brought to the fold is desperately missing. This stuff just sounds like Tillian throw aways they pushed out contractually. There's no soul or flavor. I like some of Andrews lines but I think they forced him to be in a role he never planned on being in. I think as a band they need to go back to the drawing board.

It's Tilians voice mixed with Andrew in the chorus and in the post chorus it's almost completely Tilian. Listen closely

First listen I'm not vibing with it too much

Honestly I’m in shambles. I feel like I’m a child of divorce. Speed Demon was 1000% a Tilly song. It sounds like a Tilly progression. (If so) I think Andrew did very well with it. During the pre-chorus part at 1:07 that funky bit was probably my favorite part. Straight from the Heart I’m still on the fence with. Seems like a very different direction which can be good? My mind is still in such disarray… Both songs have this rough singing Jon Mess which honestly I think I’m all in for. Cool vocal direction for Mr.Mess. Honestly I’m gonna miss Tilly very much and I hope my love for this band stays as strong as it was.

Generic screamo band sound, the magic of DGD is not present in these 2 new tracks, your reaction says it all. Wells has 1/10th the range and 1/10th the force of Tillian's vocals. Their future looks dim now playing alongside black veil brides opening for dogshit like falling in reverse. I hope they take a vacation, find a talented vocalist to replace Tillian, and go back to the drawing board. When I first heard Jackpot Juicer I knew in my heart they would likely not achieve that level of musicality again, but i never imagined just how fast and how far they would fall.

These singles are a miss for me, no Tilian is pass on DGD.
