Elton John's has a record that I don't think will ever be broken. He had a song chart on the Billboard Hot 100 for 31 consecutive years. The amount of talent, flexibility to new tastes in music and just putting out good music that requires is absurd.

"I've Seen That Movie Too" will change your life. It has the most clever drum part ever recorded, a perfect vocal performance, a soaring guitar solo way ahead it's time, and production values that give a beautiful song the right amount of grit without anything remotely cheesy.
@jonm1114
@jonm1114 4 года назад
"I'm Still Standing" is a good song, but it is middle-of-the-pack as far as Elton John's music goes. If you want to hear some real gems, I would suggest "Levon", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", "Your Song", 'Philadelphia Freedom", "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". For some really good rockin' fun, try "The Bitch is Back" and "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)". When you do that Music Share Monday, definitely do "Rocket Man". It is his most iconic tune, and deservedly so -- definitely an S-tier, in my book. I like your attitude about honest reactions. Your experiences are going to be different than those of us who grew up on these songs, and your reactions are enlightening. For example, you guys were not all that impressed with "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones, and yet I think of it as being in the top five rock and roll songs of all time. But my early experience of that song was in a completely different context. That song was released in 1965, and in the world of 1965 rock and roll, that song was an incredible standout, a real game changer. But, if you have never heard it before and listen to it now, it might sound kind of dated, and the production may seem crude, because the techniques available to producers in 1965 were far short of what was available just a couple of years later. Your honest reaction highlighted those facts and make it easier to understand the reactions young people have to classic rock songs. I thank you for that. Have fun and stay safe, guys.

"Levon" is a lyrical favorite. You'll benefit from a lyric video, but don't choose one with a bunch of photos of Elton, because his outfits will be distracting. Early Elton John is grounded in the Piano, and that is the better Elton John music. Levon is a little bit "symphonic rock". Bernie Taupin would write the lyrics and Elton John would then put the lyrics to music, working separately. Yellow Brick Road is very good, too. "Don't Let the Sun go down on me"
@Live2swim
@Live2swim 4 года назад
"Tiny Dancer", a love song, I guess, was different in that it has a slide guitar that gave the guitar parts a very country sound, but It's not a country sounding song. I would choose this live version. To any ageists, its senior citizen Elton, but in very fine voice. It's actually got a little more added in to the arrangement, just when the song is getting too repetitious. Here you can see the second percussionist adding a little drama to the video, and on this live version, the slide guitar adds more to the final section than there was on the studio version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z6Wdjy9A6CM.html

He was wearing his huge glasses, feathered hat and platformed boots. And, when he sang Philadelphia Freedom in Philadelphia, all the house lights went up in the arena and everyone seated on the floor stood up on their seats. he stopped singing and just let us go ... "Philadelphia Freedom, shine on me!"

I was somewhat frustrated when I saw the song choice but gave a listen anyway. My realization is that I was projecting my own opinion of the song into a situation where it doesn’t belong. If the disapproving viewers gave it some thought instead of just reacting their thumbs may turn the other direction.

You're referring to "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore", the second single from his 2001 album Songs from the West Coast. Funny enough, it didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100, although the music video, starring Justin Timberlake as a much-younger Elton, got a huge amount of rotation.

The lyrics reflect Elton's resurgence on multiple levels. He'd had a lot of #1 albums in the early to mid-seventies, but had started to decline in recent years. He'd struggled with drugs and was coming off that period, in addition to being more open about his sexuality. In a way, it was a coming out song for him (watch the music video sometime), even though it was still incredibly difficult to be out in eighties.

Michael Phillips Hmm, he had a mad cocaine and vodka martini binge on the set of the video ( read his autobiography); and he got married the following year. The lyrics were Bernie Taupin’s kiss off to one of his many ex- partners.

"Dude if I'm not ignorant and young, I don't know what else I am!!"~Alex. ANOTHER GREAT QUOTE!!! Andy, I appreciate your comment about the "yeah, yeah, yeah" part because I never thought of that myself. I usually don't get sick of that part, but I can see how some people may feel indifferent about it over time. This is one of my favorite Elton John songs, along with "Bennie and the Jets" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me." Whether you like Elton John or not, you can't underestimate the power of him and Bernie Taupin. They are a really great songwriting duo, it's insane! To me, "I'm Still Standing" is mediocre (I'd give it a C) compared to other EJ songs. It's nice that you like it, though. I'm not hating. 💖But since you all can review other songs, ... check out his classics: "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", his rendition of "Pinball Wizard", "Daniel", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", and, of course, "Good-bye Yellow Brick Road". And maybe you two should do something live? It doesn't have to be reaction to a song, you can answer questions. We can hear more of "Alex's Stories" or "Stories by Andy"? Cheers and stay safe! 😀🥂

I'm an 80's child and this definitely will be the song I play when all this coronathing ends... and also because I now Alex hates 80's songs and watching him enjoy it, brightens my day. People tend to be a little "purist" with artist when they changed gears between the 70's and 80's. The 80's was a deep changing era and there are song that still hold themselves and sound fresh (and better and different than the "music" now days). I will always love when you do 80's songs and will always enjoy when Alex love them or hate them. It amuse me to see his reaction.

Guys (or as you would say, Dudes)! I'm still a fan of the series but as with Bruce Springsteen, Thin Lizzy, Yes, and most recently, Dire Straits, you're misfiring on song choices. To be clear it's the SONG choices that are the misfires, not the artist choices. This song doesn't even come close to the "real" Elton John classics. Here is a list of songs you can't miss with (some of which Alex mentioned); Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, Bennie & The Jets, Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Levon and many more. The duo of Elton John as singer/songwriter and Bernie Taupin as lyricist is unmatched in pop/rock music.

You old Rock people dont appreciate Metal, calling stuff like Elton Jon heavy. Because non of them had a shred of heavy bone in their entire catalogues.
