Grew up there and attended my first movie at Colonial Theatre escorted by my two brothers. The library was off main and the best chicken was Little Mint growing up in the seventies. There was East Tarboro and Princeville where my first memories were formed. We had a milkman who delivered cold milk in glass bottles back then and we got candy and pop from Glennies in Princeville where we lived, then we walk across the bridge ( Tar River ) into town Tarboro passing Doctor Quigless' Clinic. There was Adler's, Pete Sugars, Tom McAnn and Heilig Meyers, Simmons, Florshine Shoes, Roberts Jewelry, Rose's Department Store and so many more stores, shops and businesses on Main Street. I and my many cousins, brothers and friends all grew up there, my family and friends are still there today. Thank you for this Sir! ✨🙋🏽‍♀️

I used to live in Tarboro, George Washington, and stayed the night in Tarboro on April 18, 1791, on his southern tour. He is noted to have said of the town, "It was as good a salute as could be given with one piece of artillery." The historic marker is at the corner of Main & Wilson! Jin Jins was a great place to eat!!! Great Channel 👍

Tarboro, NC, is a nice town that has a lot of history, historic buildings, and historic architecture that's just ripe for restoration and preservation. That "Adam's Family" house is the 19th century Redmond-Shackelford House, which was built in 1885 and is a two-story, three bay Second Empire style stuccoed brick dwelling with a one-story rear wing. The house was originally built for Claudia and Kate Redmond, daughters of a wealthy merchant. Kate married local industrialist Jonathan Shackleford, hence the Redmond-Shackelford name. Tarboro has a 45-block historic district, the largest in North Carolina, that boasts over 300 structures from the 1700s onward. Five buildings from the 18th century remain, with the oldest being the Archibald White House from 1785. An additional 24 Antebellum homes stand strong in the district. The largest collection includes Victorian, Second Empire, Neoclassical Revival, and Arts & Crafts style structures from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

That is so awesome. Thanks for filling me in on the history of the beautiful Redmond-Shackelford house. The glass in the windows looked to be original, as I could see the wavy imperfections in them that can not be duplicated. This is why it pains me to see them broken by someone throwing a rock.

Major-General William Dorsey Pender, aged 29 years, fell at the battle of Gettysburg 2nd July 1863. Born a short distance from my home here in what was then part of Edgecombe Co., he is buried in Tarboro on the grounds of Calvary Episcopal church under a stack of cannon balls.

I don't wish to sound too disrespectful, but why on earth would anyone want to visit every town in NC?
@TimothyFrench
@TimothyFrench Месяц назад
You’re not being disrespectful at all. I’m doing it to bring attention to our town centers, which are the front doors to our communities and have been neglected for way too long. It is my hope that, through these videos, people will return to shop and socialize there. Which will in turn encourage more independent businesses to open. I have grown tired of traveling across the country and having my only options be the same few stores I see at every exit and bypass. Thanks for watching and asking.👍

Because there are those of us who were raised there and have for various reasons traveled and live far away now but have treasured memories of the time. My parents, grandparents and friends galore all lay buried forming the soil of North Carolina, Virginia and other states up and down the eastern seaboard. It is so soothing to see where I grew up and I know there are others who will come upon this channel and rejoice. I sent it off to my relatives in Japan, Toronto Canada, Hawaii and to Seattle, Wa. and the tears are flowing now. I hope this helps, thanks!
