NEW: Turn on CC (Closed Captions) for chords and lyrics. Go to 3:33 to practice the song. Aloha, folks! Fun fact, this was my very first ukulele tutorial, and it's now 8 years old!! Thank you for following!
Cynthia, I am a highly skilled teacher and also have a music degree. I decided to learn Uke just for fun. I have looked at MANY RU-vid instructors, and you are, by far, the best!! You break things down so well, you exude happiness, and you can sing so beautifully. Your instruction is well paced, with adequate repetition and never boring. You are truly excellent on all levels. I hope your subscribers and audience grows to the proportion you deserve! ;-)
What a service you've provided. First musical instrument at nearly 70 is the uke. What a great time and your tutorials are magnificent. Musicians, poets, artists. The Salt of the Earth. Thank you so much.
You are the greatest, Cynthia. I once went up to you after you gave a group lesson at the Yu Ai Kai Center in San Jose, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. I also bought a signed ukulele. Hope we can meet again one day: I would gladly buy you lunch one day at a nice restaurant because of your positive influence on my ukulele playing and singing. Thank you! Greg Tanaka
My wife won a Ukulele a while back and I'm happy to have found your you tube lessons I have never played a stringed instrument. Had several years of piano. The ukulele is easier to move. I ran through several you tube instructors. You are by far the best . Thank you. The pace is perfect and I will be following along for all the lessons and then some.
Hi Cynthia, I recently retired and decided to take up the ukelele. I love your ukelele videos because you obviously love what you do and this comes through. Your instruction is very clear and there is no hint of the salesmanship that is prevalent in many other videos on the internet. Thank you so much. Aloha, Clyde
You rock,Cynthia! Born and raised in Hawaii but never learned to play....until now.Ithink with your help my dream may come true . Five minutes a day, good for the brain, good for the soul!
I❤your instructions Cynthia. I am another 62 year old trying to learn a musical instrumental. You have made this a very wonderful experience for me . Thank you. Love the Ike, love you!❤
Thank you for all of the joy you brought to my life. I am going through a tough time and learning the Ukulele has brought happiness in my life. You are a gifted teacher. I think you have found your calling.
Cynthia, I'm a 35 year old Filipino-Chinese here in Philippines and I've always wanted to learn one instrument at least in this life... Thank you so much for teaching me this song. You made it so simple. Mabuhay ka :)
I can't sing and never grew up playing any instrument. I spent time with your first lesson and am pleasantly surprised that I can listen to you and play. Due to an injury on my left arm I need to spend more time going from C to G but all in all I am having a great time! Thank you!
I do not own a Ukulele as it is above my means. I cant play the guitar for my life. But I have delighted in watching your tutorials learning what I can till I can buy uke of my own. Thanks so much for letting me air strum along with you, you wonderful lady!!
Cynthia. I see you have heard this from so many of the comments below but since those might have been years ago. I will reiterate that you are by far the very best instructor I have ever seen. The patience, confidence and organic delivery is so smooth and effortless. In less than an hour turned my Christmas present to my wife into her best ever present I have ever given her for the past 34 years. Thank You. THANK YOU for doing your series!!! I am a fan for life and will research how support you in the future.
Thank you Cynthia for being my virtual support system as I work my way to not only playing but singing along with my little baby guitar. I've had a guitar for years but have been too intimidated to pick it up. The uke is like a "baby guitar" and babies don't scare me! It's quite a transition from the woodwind I grew up with (saxophone), but the pace you move about is perfect for me as my fingers accommodate to the strings. I have your video on 1/2 the screen, and the chords on the other, then I listen to you with only 1 earbud in. It allows me the perfect opportunity to tune my voice with yours. Thank you for the gift of ukulele!
At first, I thought it's too hard because I'm new in uke but I came back again to watch your vid again. It's easy now to learn and appreciate the chord pattern.
oh my gosh, your tutorials are excellent! I literally just picked up a uke a couple days ago and I love how slow your pace is! for an absolute beginner, it's totally perfect pacing :D
Cynthia I am a nine years old and i think your awesome.I think ukulele players really deserve you because you work so hard to make these songs. I love you and i really think your good. happy Christmas. I'm Micheal hodes's daughter.
Wish me luck! I just bought my first ukulele today at Lahaina Music and I'm going to a free lesson at the Cannery Mall at 5:45.pm. I like your style and will be back for more lessons. Mahalo sista!
hi cynthia! I'm from the Philippines... I just got myself a ukulele few weeks ago while on official travel .. Now I'm learning from your easy tutorial lesson... Thanks! .. Will keep following you from now on.. ;) Aloha!
im a complete noob to the uke. You really explain well and the dowloaded chords help immensely. Been going now for a full 5 days - sore fingers but loving it and your nice way of teaching. Love the flowers in your hair also!
Cynthia, for years I've wanted to learn an instrument but didn't feel I'd be able to motivate myself to do so. Your videos have changed that for me. I have so much fun playing and learning with you. Thank. You.
Thank you so much for your lessons!!! Two weeks playing ukelele and now I know this two songs. I've done all you said on your videos, practice de transitions between chords and this strum is the easiest thing in the world. So thank you very much!!!!I'm so happy playing my ukelele!!!!
My husband just gifted me with a uke. I was so excited to get it and at the same time a bit intimidated since I have no experience at all with playing music. However the happy sounds of the uke keep drawing me in. I quickly jumped on You Tube to see what I could find and I am so happy to have found you! Your teaching is so easy to follow, your free chord charts are wonderful and simple. You build confidence right away by helping students learn simple things and then building on those basics. In two weeks I have learned "3 Little Birds" and "I'm Yours" in my practice tonight I was finally back beat strumming and singing along with you. I'm so happy!! Had no idea I could learn so much so quickly. Thank you for sharing your talents and good teaching ability!!
You. Are. Awesome!!! I went through a few ukulele videos before I found yours, and yours are the most helpful and methodical. I learned my basics in piano through the Thompson's method, and violin through the Suzuki method. Now, I'm learning the ukulele through the Lin method!!! Thank you for your time and your talent. The universe appreciates you.
Hi Cynthia, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I've been playing piano since I was 5 years old (Let's just say I've been playing now for quite some time. I've learned percussion (drums, xylophone) and now wanted to learn a FUN string instrument. I searched RU-vid for "uke lessons" and YOU were BY FAR THE BEST THAT I FOUND!!! :-) Your approach is easy, you're very clear on the key elements that a beginner needs to consider. AND most importantly I'm having a LOT of FUN learning! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Cynthia! :D
