fellow bad embroiderer here!! typically i paint on the fabric underneath where im going to embroider, so the gaps between stitches arent as obvious lol, but you still have the texture of the embroidery!

That's such a good idea!! I'm about to do some embroidery for the sleeves on a Vivi cosplay and I've been trying to figure out how to make it look really nice but not spend 500 years on it. 😅

Honestly the best trick I’ve ever learned for sewing anything with gathers is simply to sew two rows of gathering stitches instead of one. That way you can tie your top and bottom threads to each other on one end, keeping them from accidentally slipping through. And having two parallel rows of stitching creates more strength, so your less likely to break your thread. Most importantly IMO this allows your gathers to sit more evenly around your garment, and it makes the seam allowances so much easier to sew and keep an even length.

If youre struggling to get a good gather, you can use a big wide zigzag, then thread embroidery thread underneath the zigzag and its SUPER fast (after gathering 12 yards of tulle i will NEVER do anything else for loose-weave fabrics lol

This is such a cute costume. Burlap is a pain, but you did a beautiful job! I'm not sure if it's helpful, but here are two tricks I use for gathering fabric. 1. I use button thread. It's thicker than your standard thread, so it's less likely to break. 2. I pull my first top stitch through to the back and knot my top and bottom stitch together. It helps to keep my thread from slipping out. Then, when I'm finished, it's easy to cut the knot off and pull the threads out.

I realize this is a year later but just a very helpful tip. If you are going to use burlap make sure it is Fluorocarbon free. If it isn't it's made using petroleum . Food grade burlap is made using food grade vegetable oil. You don't want nasty chemicals on your skin. Also check to see if it is synthetic or natural burlap. So you want food grade burlap Not commercial landscaping/ nursery grade burlap which is treated with chemical to keep it from rotting. 😊

@raven5279
@raven5279 Год назад
I have to ask, are you using button thread for the gathering? Bc if not, that might improve the (admittedly, never short😅) length of time the ruffling is taking. Two lines of gathering thread can also help in both reducing chance of thread breaking and in increasing the regularity of ruffle

Asa crafter and a person who worked in a fabric store I with to tell you that its better to buy the fabric the looks like burlap for clothing rather then the actual burlap as it is pokey and itchy and gets everywhere. I honestly hated the lady's that would come in and buy it in bulk I would have it all over me for days....you did a great job though.

I would never use burlap to make a dress. I'd have an instant meltdown after putting it on. If in the future, you need a cheap temporary fray check, you can use clear school glue. You just have to wait a long time for it to dry.

Nice. Look a fantasy stuff, even not d&d (maybe if you are a mage or witchcraft (or how is called that two classes in English) With a warlock, that's wasn't ok. For the fashion site: again, really cute. Maybe the embroidery is too high... It's covered from collar. Ma be was perfect with a tabard on the back also. (yes, it's tabard 😅)
