Showing some of your long term tanks starting to go through algae/bacteria blooms is amazing. I think you are a great resource to new fish keepers if they just watch and take it all in. The hobby can be confusing but you definitely help make it easier for some people to understand

It's amazing how much you've achieved with this little space. I hope you get a huge house/garage some day so that you can have so much more space for so many more tanks.

Hint for watering plants: when you change the water put some in the plant. Fish water is the best water for plants & they will love it!

Hey MD, Looks really good! I would recommend some more light at your houseplants. you don't have any natural light around your eco tank. so I'm afraid your Ficus and Monstera will need a bit more. Just a tip from a Florist follower ;)

Loving all your shrimp tanks, in 3 years I’ve gone from a single cherry shrimp tank to adding yellow neocaridina and then ended up splitting all the neocaridina by colours (red, yellow….then also green, blue) then adding CRS and BB’s! Shrimp tanks are crazy interesting to watch. Got 13 tanks now and just moving plants around has resulted in every tank having shrimp hitchhikers! Lol Keep the amazing vid’s coming! xxx

A small bottle brush with a long handle is great at removing algae from plants. Just snag a bit of algae and gently spin the brush- it loads up with algae like a cotton candy machine. Then lift it up and it pulls out all the remaining algae. “Works a treat”! Also, four days of total darkness will kill the algae and not hurt the plants or fish.

Looks like you've outgrown that place. Time for an upgrade.

For your houseplants check out the Tropf Blumat watering cone system. This would allow the plants to siphon water from the aquarium they are next to as they need it. Once it is set up you never have to remember to water them again.

When you change out your tank water put it right into your houseplants. They will love it!

Your standard fig (ficus bejamina) might drop its leaves after being moved but dont give up hope! They just dont like being moved but once it settles, if its getting enough light, it should be ok.

Shrimp are so fun to watch, aren't they? Plus since they don't need much space, you can usually squeeze another nano tank in somewhere, so you get the fun of creating a new habitat and aquascape!

You should definitely purchase "hygrophila diformis" ... It is a very beautiful plant. And it grows very fast too

Great advice bit on the lights! I was struggling with LOADS of algae months ago until I started taping off more and more of the LED's and now its great! Good advice for people like me with one tank is just reduce the lighting as I thought I had low lighting turns out I had high light levels, hard to know when you've one tank.

Use waste tank water on the "house" plants. It will keep them fed nutrients, especially when you do you filters, feed them the dirty filter water plants love it, I grew a ton of "tomatoes" using just fish tank water and dirty filter waste in the past.

If you cut strips from a cotton shirt, tie them to a wire then use the wire to pull the strip into a small hose like some airline. You can bury one end into the potted plant and place the other end into the closest tank and it will act as a wicking waterer. Then your plants won't die.

How about using tank water to water your houseplants instead of throwing it out in the drain?

I have also been good at killing house plants.... and garden plants... there's a reason why i primarily grow bromelaids and succulents and they've all got an auto watering system on them! 🤣 But i now have a small terrarium next to my tanks, and a small potted plant- and they live! I keep a small clear jug/ container next to my tanks, and when i check them i check the plants as well, and since the jug is right there I can water them with a bit of tank water (which gives the plants some nutrients too!)- jug is clear to check and make sure i havent scooped up shrimplets as well! 🤣

You need a self-watering pot for your plants :)

API sells ERYTHROMYCIN which takes care of blue-green algea or cyanobacteria, but I guess it is not accessible in the UK.

To water your house plants, just take a water water bottle, any size, fill it and push it down in the soil and it will water as the soil drys. One 23.7 oz bottle lasts about a week or more. I use one with a sip top cause the opening is smaller. Try it! One less thing to worry about.

i have a 17 gallon cichlid tank pumped full of plants and rocks. i use a high lumen bright white basic bulb that lights both aquarium and a money plant that sits beside the aquarium. i started to get the tiniest bit of algae at the surface plants for the first time in the tanks 3 month life. I moved the light up farther and increased the water circulation a bit and the algae cleared up quick. i have never had any algae on the glass ... like ever. my first planted tank is successful so far. The plants suck up all the badness in the tank and the striped nerite snails help too.

Just as a hack you can always but metal hangers and use them to build light extension arms..thats what i did ..dipped them in black paint as well

💚The Monstera 🌱and the Ficus Benjamina🌿 were previously dwelling closer to your window☀️, light is also one of the reasons they look so nice so maybe put som growligts💡 in that shaded part they're in now and water💧 when soil is dry. Best of luck! 💚

Chemi-Clean Green is for planted systems. Chemi-Clean Blue is for reef systems. I've used both for my fish tanks, Salt and Fresh water.
