Greetings All ! in this video I make a quilt using Kaffe Fassett's fabric line called "Woven Stripes." Here is my email address in case Kaffe wants to do a colab ;-) davescraftroom@gmail.com
When he said "Life is too short to be worried about scissors" I knew I needed to subscribe immediately....I don't like following artist who leave me feeling stressed out instead of enjoying the flow of the process, good and bad....You are enjoyable to watch ..
You think outside the box. As a long term quilter I would never have thought to construct that quilt like that but it works beautifully. Keep going with your quilting journey. We need innovating fresh blood. You will be a big ‘name’ in quilting and I can say, “oh yes I’ve been following him for years!” Can’t wait to take a class with you at Houston! 😊
PHENOMENAL!! You should send Kaffe a picture of your quilt, he would love it!! I hope you get the colab, that would be awesome. Thanks for sharing what you do. , I'm inspired every week 😊
I love this project. Kaffe Fassett is the type of designer fabric you think has to be sent out to a long arm quilter and everything done just so. Your design is modern but your quilting gives it a vintage appeal. I think you should get a collab especially considering Kaffe Fassetts throwback line coming out in December!
Dave, I am a designer and formerly an assistant chairperson at an art and design college in Los Angeles. The reason for the background is to preface my “expertise “. You Sir are the epitome of a creative genius. Your innovation and risk taking is only exceeded by your ability to entertain us while you “cook”. You always have a surprise project that pushes the envelope and yet lands at bold and delightful place. Your methods and approach reminds any creative, beginner or pro, (including me”to think out of the box and unclamp our keesters. Thanks.
I commented on one of Dave's other videos that someday we'll be seeing him having his own exhibits. His imagination and creativity is unbelievable! I couldn't agree with you more!
Dave, Dave DAVE! Be still, my heart. You've worked magic with this magical fabric. Kaffe's woven stripes are my favourite of his geometric designs. I bought fat quarters in 2010 and made a quilt of simple vertical and horizontal rectangles. It's on my bed right now and I still love it way more than the other, vaguely ambitious ones I've made since. The colours are so rich, so antique, so "hand-dyed". As if they were woven in ancient times. Of course the process is very different to the usual printed designs. Reminds me of cloth worn in biblical times. (Where did that camel get to?) Your quilt honours the special quality of the fabric and then takes it to places of unexpected delight. I'd love to print out a huge photo and hang it in my bedroom to complement my modest but precious quilt. Youve made me happy tonight here in a chilly South Island of New Zealand
Hi Dave, That was great fun to watch. I'm sorry but in the beginning when you announced your plans for the quilt I couldn't really envisage it turning out to be in league with your past quilts. Once again, you proved just how inventive and capable you really are. I love your Kaffe Fassett Stripes quilt! You were right, Kaffe's fabrics have the capacity to do most of the design work. In the making of this quilt, from start to finish, you have already participated in a successful collaboration with Kaffe. You picked up where he left off and, in the end, you two made a winning creative partnership and brought to life a totally new funky quilt design. Congratulations! I will never doubt you--even for 10 seconds--again. 👏🏅🎆🎉
So thrilled I found your channel, Dave. As a beginner quilter I’ve been searching for artists who let loose on the “quilting rules” and just go with the flow. Your style is inspiring! Thank you!
It's like a Hot Wheels track! Seriously, I would bet that no one else has made anything The beautiful with Kaffe Fassett fabric. You have done him proud!
Do you send a picture of this spectacular quilt to Kaffee? If you don't, somebody must, it is amazing! (As are all your other projects) Perhaps everybody commenting on your quilt should send a picture of the finished project to K. Let us know when you receive boxes of fabric from them!😅
So Dave… I don’t know if I want to thank you or blame you? I’m a 65 year old retired Navy Photographer and decided I wanted an outlet for my creative juices. I watched a lot of your videos and decided I wanted to do/try this. Your approach to quilting is very refreshing and inviting! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Dave love it. The music works perfectly with the design. The curves remind of brass instruments eg saxophones and such so a delight to watch the design take shape with synced music. A work of art worthy of any gallery. Inspiring
Man I wish I could think so outside the norm. This is brilliant. Love the final creation. Even Kaffe doesn't make quilts like this. His designs are simple. Love the final quilt. Keep doing what you do!
WOW, Dave! I hope Kate gets the opportunity to see the stunning quilt that you have created from his beautiful fabrics. I have no doubt that a bundle of his fabric would be in the mail. Thank you for sharing your creativity! Stay well! Muskoka ON🇨🇦
im glad i found your channel! I binge watched every episode LOL and was like when is a new one coming!!??? you make me laugh and smile and you are very inspiring as well! thank you!!
Wow! You did it again! I think Kaffe should be thrilled & honored to do a collab with you! And visa versa of course. To my mind, seems like it would be a quilt match made in heaven. ❤
Your creativity shines with these fabrics. Watching you translate your vision into a finished quilt is impressive. Kaffe is part of the FreeSpirit Fabrics family. They may be up for a collab.
This is a happy quilt! You made those luscious fabrics sing in harmony!!! You are so clever!!! I look forward to Tuesday evenings checking in Dave’s Craft Room!!!
You have a great asset when you use k fassett. You are gifted to see it done in your head with your thinking cap on. I can too oddly enough most can’t. Truly gifted
You are amazing Dave! I have been watching your videos for ages and can't believe how your fun mind works! Brilliant quilt as usual and yes Kaffe needs to see your project! Go Dave go! Cheers from Minnesota.
😲😁 💕👏👏👏👏 I love it!! You are a genius fabric guru artist! I need that thinking hat! The stripes & curved stripes are as fun as you are. It reminds me of driving through El Paso in all the freeway overpass spaghetti! Can't wait to see what you do next! Blessings
Ditto to all the rave comments, esp those about a Kaffe Collab. Capitalized cuz it will be THE quilting event. This is ridiculously AWESOME! A Davitized kaleidoscope w KF florals would be pretty cool. But of course you will come up with a MUCH better/more original idea. Way to go!!!!!❤💕
Stunning as usual! ❤ I love Kaffe Fassett’s fabrics and bright colors. You r the best. Just made a lonestar quilt out of flowery Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Hope you will get a collaboration with them. Looking forward to it!
Ok. Dave. Found your channel recently. I love your go for it approach to quilting. Don't know if you went to school for fabric art? But, no doubt you are a teacher. You motivate me to go with my creative side and skip that pattern! Thanks again
Love that design. Just last week I was getting my striped fabrics together to make a quilt but had an XO type block in mind. I have made a one fabric wonder quilt with one fancy motif diagonal stripe with the XO design and was going to try it with several different simple striped fabrics. Looks like I'm going to rethink that now.
New to quilting, I found your channel, loved how you think, work & film…but today you pushed me over the cliff with this quilt! It has wings, it sings! Thank you!
You took some really challenging fabric colors/stripes and made such a wonderful, fantastical quilt! It has this really groovy (yes, groovy) retro vibe with a modern twist aesthetic. Love it!
I don't know if you have ever seen any of those old black and white movies (1940's and early 1950's); but, people were designing and making some of the most magical, beautiful skirts, dresses, and other garment out of stripes ( and in many cases plaids). They made those stripes match up at the seams. You don't see this in most modern garments.
I love your well thought out yet very organic lay outs and how in the end they look spectacular ! You have me craving to do my bird quilt, curved flying geese blocks with straight and the back ground fabric is multicoloured birds. Keep up this amazing inspiring craft, you come across as a natural!
