This week I'm sharing my latest make - the Patina blouse by the Friday Pattern Company in our Lady McElroy Morracain crepe viscose fabric. I decided it was time to ditch the winter knits and start sewing for spring.
I absolutely love the Patina blouse pattern, it has the cutest pointy collar, options for a lower and a higher V neckline (I chose the lower), options for short or long sleeves, an oversized, but not too oversized fit and back yoke with gathers. It would work brilliantly in a plain fabric too, but I just couldn't resist this floral print for spring and saw so many lovely versions in prints on Instagram I decided to just go with my gut.
The fabric was the perfect weight for the floaty vibes of this blouse and pressed beautifully, especially useful at the collar.
I made my usual high round back and forward shoulder adjustment and have linked to a RU-vid tutorial on how and when to do this below.
The blouse was super easy to fit thanks to the relaxed fit and the only other thing I would do if I made it again would be to lengthen the sleeves slightly (although I do have long arms so this might not be an issue for everybody).
This would be a great sewing pattern for an advanced beginner looking to stretch their skills beyond beginner level projects and is a quick, easy sew for an experienced sewer.
The back yoke is lined and the burrito method is used to allow the entire yoke and lining to be machine sewed. This can be a little confusing to understand in written instructions, but I've included my RU-vid tutorial for step by step easy to understand instructions on how to do this below.
The collar is easy to attach and construct and is sandwiched between the facing and the blouse.
I would have liked a little more full gathers at the sleeve head and back yoke, but the gathers at the cuff were lovely and full.
All in all a great project and definitely an indie pattern I will use again and again.
I've always enjoyed making the Friday Pattern Company patterns I've tried and love wearing them too. They are lovely contemporary designs that generally seem relatively easy to construct and you can find the full range on our site.
