DIY Toner for brassy hair: This easily replaces what I normally use which is Wella Color Charm T18 for keeping my blondes and brondes from going too yellow or orange. I'm currently formulating a way for it to replace by addiction to Wella T14 for silver hair as well. Stay Tuned for future vid on that!

okay you might call me crazy (and be right, too) but one time I ran out of toner and it was a sunday night. So.....I remembered a girl in my class who liked to do stuff to her hair like with magic marker. She had used jello and food coloring on her OWN hair, and I liked it! I put a tiny drop of purple food dye (left over from Easter) and have since used the RED color to make self-tanner more reddish since I have yellow, sickly pale skin on my legs (most will want to add green to self-tanner since most complain about it being too orange.) It works and also...best of all...it is temporary and non harmful/damaging. In a fix, it worked. Of course it does not last, but as I said, a drop of purple mixed with conditioner did the trick for brassy roots. All you need is a TINY bit. So.....for really cheap there is always food dye.

I found the best method for toning hair, even synthetics on disazterous beauties channel, it uses rubbing alcohol and rit dye for synthetics added to a ziplock bag. You put the wig in and coat it well leave for ten minutes and voila! It worked like a charm!

Thank this works, we don't have dollar stores like yours here in PR but I bought a blue corrector only $2.99 and it worked! My highlights look great and my brassy brown hair which had so much orange in it, got toned to a pretty brown, next time I'll leave it on for a longer time!

no, green is gonna cut the orangy reds. will give a touch of greyish hue.

This is so late, but i have artic fox periwinkle hair dye that's a light purple - would that work? I'm trying to save money 😩😩

maybe instead of conditioner to use a hair mask, those that sell for a dollar/two? conditioner for 30mins will make my hair shapeless

Do you put this toner ONLY on brassy strands of hair, or can I put it all over (medium to light brown hair) as well? Just be easier to coat all of my hair is why I'm asking, lol.

Does it make a difference if the hair dye is more like a dark purple? Is it still gonna work?

Yeah that should work... but it's should be the hair color that is without developer so a semi permanent. If you are worried try putting a little more conditioner.

Before adding purple dye to conditioner do you mix the 2 hair dye bottles that come in the box or just 1 which is the color liquid?

Semi permanent color is only one product... there is no developer so just the color & the conditioner

My hairstylist did a bad job on my hair and i went from a dark brunette to a dark orangey color, what ratio do you suggest i used for the toner and conditioner? and also would blue hair dye work just as well as purple?

Dark orange may not tone at all. I tried toning a color darker 27 & a color 33 before and it did not even work at all. It was a waste of time, money & product. The color has to be light enough (like the thumbnail of this vid). Also if u bleach again you might ruin it all together. This seems like a color correction specialist job TBH. If I were you I would see a pro & get them to use Olaplex. As I stated in my disclosure I am not a hair professional & take my advice at your own risk. Good luck dear.

I decided to take the risk and used the method from your video and it actually turned out quite well. I had to add a lot more purple dye and leave in it longer, but I got the result that I wanted. My hair lost it's orangey color and went back to a dark brunette with some slight purple. Thank you for making this video it was really helpful!

TBH I don't know. I'm just a professional hair APPRECIATOR NOT a hair professional. LOL Semi perm Purple hair color from what I tried works on blonde to dark blonde hair orange & yellow... sorry IDK TBH maybe try googling it

update. i've tried blue and green food coloring w/Aveda's shampoo for colored hair to try to tone down this orange tone that came with this awful clairol's light cool brown box color and all i achieved was turning my scalp slightly green lmao

OH...girl, idk. I've been doing so many searches on extensions, HH, wigs, etc....I'm bout to go blind. lol. Yours looks fantastic. Gave me some hope for some of my lame synthetics tho. ha.
