The crazy thing is that the Twitch Chat portfolio outperformed the S&P 500 in 2022, which is considered a safe index for long-term investing and used as a benchmark for comparing how portfolios and funds perform. Twitch chat portfolio had a return of -18% but the S&P 500 had a return of -19.6% in 2022. It could be fun to let the portfolio ride or have twitch chat reallocate assets each year and see how it stacks up over time.

As a guy who keeps an eye on stocks, I was cracking up seeing the ones chat chose. Netflix tried to crack down on password sharing, people got pissed at Nvidia for cooperate greed, Hasbro tried to get rid of the open license for D&D, etc. DougDoug really chose one of the worst years and chat chose some of the worst companies for investment.

I don't believe they crashed the stock market. Just reddit invested in what most "professional" financial advisors thought was a failing stock. They got pissed and complained. Robinhood to appease the actual people who make them money froze the stock. To be clear, Robinhood made money by letting people trade for free, then selling the buying trends of their users. Their users didn't make them money; they were the product.
