Hi everyone!
So in today's video I wanted to show you how I put together my sample packets of my wax melts! I always wanted to just swallow my fear and head out to local businesses to see if they would be interested in purchasing one of my melts/taking a sample. I wanted to document all of my feelings, and show that eventhough I made ZERO sales, I still learned a lot and I would recommend anyone to give it a try it you have ever thought about it. I think it is one of the hardest/ineffective way to sell your products, but I was much more than try to sell. I learned a lot. I hope you did too!

Oh my goodness, you a year ago is me right now. When you said, "maybe I should have my Etsy shop up first". I found myself saying that just this past week when handing my samples out. I started a shopify account and have it almost done just still worried I should have more details on it. I wish there were a manual on this type of stuff lol but I appreciate your videos so much you have no idea! Thank you for always sharing your content and keeping it real with everyone.

I love how real and down to earth you are about this whole process! I'm planning on starting my own candle business in Australia and selling locally and the thought honestly terrifies me because I don't consider myself a sale person (at least not in person). So this was really encouraging and I think it's frickin awesome that you put yourself in that situation of growth! Subscribed!!

I worked in an office building and I think that would be a great way to get started. U have a bunch of different businesses in 1 building and I know that the ladies would go crazy when we had people come in to sell stuff. We loved when we didn't have to go out and shop...it came to us. Even the guys could get there girlfriend, lady friend or wife a gift just because or maybe they forgot a special day and u walked in to save the day. It really happens. 😄

I love your videos! They are very informative. I do have a question about the plastic baggies though, I've heard they can "suck" the fragrance out of wax and cause them to lose their scent, have you have any issues with this or is it only certain types of bags that do this?

Thank you so much! I’m so glad 🥰 I used TW-35 soy tart wax from California candle supply and I love it! However I’ve also heard people say they love pillar of bliss for tarts! I use all the same scents I use for my candles :)

My computer is broken but my son hooked it up to the TV so now I watch videos in one place then have to go to another to comment so sometimes I'll watch a few and then go comment. I also tend to be 'wordy', sorry about that....I was born and raised in the South and we just don't know when to stop talking sometimes haha. You would make a GREAT motivational speaker! People pay to see informative and inspirational videos like yours.. Thanks for taking us on your adventures....this one was a tad scary, don't think I could put myself out there like that but then I'm too old and nervous to try....it's still fun to watch you though....thanks for another great video!

Hi Erica, thank you for sharing this video. I was using plastic bags for melt samples, but, my daughter pointed out how much plastic I'm using. So I now use greaseproof paper bags, like candy bags. Ive been thinking about asking shops, businesses to have my candles. But, don't know which businesses would be best. Do you have any ideas??

Haha :) Yeah honestly it was more for me to get over the fear.. I know that walking in and cold-selling to front desk employees is not the best way to sell. Great vid! Quick question: why doyou make wax melts as samples and not tealight candles? I dont have a wax melter so how would I test the hot throw? Just curious coz I been having that debate with myself :)

It’s because it’s easy and cheap! Also you would have to get a wax warmer to test them, it’s the only way!

I personally think you could've had a much better shot with those shops if you would've taken your candles instead of your melts. Mainly because not that many people own tart warmers.

I am a real estate professional / previous Realtor / previous person who also used to market towards Realtors...you NEED TO WALK INTO REAL ESTATE OFFICES.......you will be busy non stop doing marketing drops all month long, especially if you live in a major city! There's always someone in a real estate office / front desk...... and you can just leave samples in every Realtor's mailbox slot they get inside the office. It's a huge "thing" in real estate when others go "marketing" towards Realtors, they can just go in and ask to leave freebies for everyone. Sometimes you can dump it on a table they have with everyone's marketing "stuff" or you can insert them into slots. BIG BONUS if you can get into a Keller Williams office cause good lord they have HUGE offices with like hundreds of mail slots. Realtors will for sure suggest a Buyer's Home "smell good" so yeah wax melts on an Open House or during the week's showings can really boost that good vibes with Buyers walk in.

Hi I ordered the same wax for melts. I read you can put up to 18% fragrance. How many grams would you add to 1 lb of wax? Or do you mind telling me your way? I want to make sure my wax melts are strong. Also what size are your labels? Thank you!!

Hi! I only do around 15% for my melts but if you want to do the full 18% and you’re working with a 1lb at a time this is how I would measure it: I do everything in grams. 1lb=454 grams. 69/385 =17.9% 69+385=454 g So I would do 385 grams of tart wax with 69 grams of FO to equal a total liquid weight of 454 with a ratio of 18% FO. ☺️ Also my label sizes are 2.2” x 2.83” from online labels!

Do you sell your samples or just the box tarts? I know you put samples in the orders you get, but how do you know which one to put? Does the client pick and tell you? Or do you pick what to put? For inserting the wax melts into the bags - (might take longer) why don't you put the melts on a small piece of paper and shimmy it into the bag? The paper will prevent the wax melt touching the ziplock part of the bag. I was gonna also say why dont you use organza baggies for your samples but I don't think it's the best idea.

I changed up my sample packaging so I don’t use this method anymore but that would be a good idea And I just put a random sample in the same scent category! (I.e. If they bought a lemon scent I would give them an orange sample)

Container wax can be too soft, also it doesn’t hold a high fragrance load like tart wax does.

I am not sure, I would look on Google to see if any suppliers have a similar blend. If not you may have to do a custom blend to try to match the scent ❤️

When you are doing your samples, you should try putting the wax melts in the freezer first. Should make them come out easier and break easier. Cheers.
