I've been watching a lot Chirs Do recently as I try and scale my business more and saw you on his page during a white board demo! I love what both of you are offering to creators and I love the retainer mindset. I had a $5k retainer client that lasted from September - March, but they recently decided to take a pause since they're going to changes in the business. I'm glad they did though becasue it's allowed to me work with a lot more clients at higher rates! I havne't been able to lock in another retainer client just yet, but I just landed a new client and did almost the same thing you were talking about with the "sample bundle package". I put together a small package and took off $500 as a discount, so they're paying $4500 for a couple videos to live primarily on their website. I brought it up non-challantley that I do retainer packages and we could create a similar ongoing content package for them if this shoot goes well. They said they might be interested so hopefully soon I'll have another retainer client that I can lock-in for around $6k (and it's actually LESS work than my previous retainer client that I had for $5k 😎)

Great advice! Your method for finding clients through connections you already have reminds me of a book I read called The Proximity Principle.
