I Moved In With a Black Family 

The whole family and I had an amazing experience with you Markian! The world needs more of this openness to learn about each other, no matter how different. I believe what we’ll find is that we’re all pretty much the same. We all want to enjoy life with family, friends, and good food, to prosper and be respected. I love the fact that at the beginning of the video, the family talked about the pressure of representing all Black people because we are not a monolith. The experience with the black family and Baltimore can and probably is very different than with a family in Texas, Louisiana or even California.

As a black American, I eat whatever I want, who cares about stereotypes. Just be you ❤ it will be okay

The fact this man went in nervous and expecting major cultural differences really speaks to how far we still have to come as a nation.

I released myself from the mental shackles of caring what white people and other non-Black people think of me and my culture. I will eat watermelon, dance and wear my hair as I please. My life doesn’t revolves around who thinks what of me, because I have knowledge and love of self.

Love how they stated white and black accordingly without any sense of being discriminatory. Some think saying white or black is discrimination but it’s a fact that’s the color of a skin.

I really appreciated that the family's father stated that "we're not a monolith". It's so important that people accept and understand that.

Most black families are welcoming and open, especially after they get to know you and you're not prejudice.

As a black man from the south, this made me cry, laugh and cry some more at the reality we face daily in this country.

Black families are some of the most accepting of other races. We feed and treat and shower with love and support. If only we got the same in return from others

As a black person that grew up like how their family operates from church , to intellectual conversations about our struggles as people, to dancing and bonding I loved to see this it felt like you were visiting my family❤

I am from Iceland and frankly there aren't that many black people here and so whenever I see one I tend to look and and if they look back I just smile because honestly I'm just happy to see a non blonde haired blue eyed person for once 😂❤

We celebrate Juneteenth with the black half of our family every year. This is such a great holiday and very important. Thank you for bringing some awareness to this. There are so many whites out there who don't care at all about the importance of this holiday.

I love black people!!! I always feel at home with my black friends. One time a black lady who I'd only met a few hours earlier said "You're a white woman with black woman's soul." I really wish we could do this more, and not be afraid to take the first step to get to know and understand each other without preconceived notions. Thanks for doing this episode.

Despite all of the propaganda,hate and negativity constantly shown on the media, most people of all races are actually very nice and accepting like the wonderful family on this post. You can find good loving people everywhere if that’s what you are seeking.🙏

To be honest, I see white people eat more watermelon than us. I never have watermelon when we cook out, not because of stereotypes but I just don’t buy it alot. I love it when I do buy it. I love this. Just like the stereotypical statement about welfare when statistical there are more white people on the system than black people. I learned also that, white people are safer around us than we’re around them. I love this

Great experiment, but the only thing that bothered me was your concern and awareness of being the only white person in the black group. Those people are not going to eat you, lol. The propaganda about us is nonsense. Black people are some of the most inviting, spiritual, and hospitable people. I think that's the very issue with most non-black people; they are too aware of the differences (and belief in propaganda about us) and not the similarities. I have been the only black person in White, Asian and Latino environments and never once thought of being the only black person in the group; just being myself. Most black people are not thinking about that unless someone makes an effort to point it out; which, unfortunately, other cultures do.

As someone from South America, watching this has been super insightful. Learning that there is a strong stereotype over a fruit (and it is my favorite!), was a surprise. Thank you for sharing your experience, the family is lovely!

As a white teenager originally from the US and now living in South Africa, In the last 5 years I've spent a lot of time in black african households. I think a lot of black Americans might be suprised by the amount of similarities. Yes there are differences in language, types of music and the way people dress, but family "Braais" are incredibly similar to cookouts and the devotion to family, aswell as the appreciation for community, food, music and dance is definitely shared. Its heartbreaking how much of black American peoples history was stolen from them, but its great to see that some of the core african values (such as Ubuntu and Ujamaa) have remained despite the many struggles black americans have had to face through generations. The warmth, acceptance and willingness to teach me their traditions, shown by my friends families, has brought me closer to their families than I have ever been with mine. I would love to hear a black person who has experienced black american culture and black african culture share their views and opinions. Also please remember that this is my observation from a white persons perspective and is not nessisarily an accurate representation of how black people may experiance this.

As someone who has hoped from foster home to foster home and got raised around black culture they family fr fr I’ve only lived with one white foster family but I loved the stuff I’ve experienced they showed me more love than my own family fr

I applaud him for wanting to simply understand. A lot of people call themselves Allies but don’t understand.

When I was in foster care, I lived with a black family. Went to a black church. Went to all of their stuff. She was one of my two favorites. But, when my son was born when I was 18, my black foster mom was so sweet, the white one apologized and made me feel bad. That's not my overall experience with both cultures, but people need to stop acting like white is right. As a white, conservative woman.

I enjoy these videos and learning about other cultures. The three episode Hawaii was really good. Having a three part video, you got to see more and understand the culture. In one video everything seems rushed and a longer one, you learn so much more.

As a Black man who is born and raised in Los Angeles around nothing but Armenians I can tell you that they strongly believe in gatekeeping their culture and can be very mistrustful of outsiders. Which makes sense. Maybe this Markian guy can do a show where he takes a Black man into Glendale around his people and maybe it can tear down some misunderstandings and misconceptions we might have of another. 🤷

This is interesting I live in Texas. Me being preferred to be referred to as African American. Black is a color and won't be valued as such. I have never cared what people of any race thought of me. Mind you I've had several careers and a very accomplished in the eyes of those of European descent. I'm the same me all the time yet understand my surroundings. If people are uncomfortable around me that's their issue. I don't give thought to it. I eat what I when I regardless of who's around.

The mom reminds me of Michelle Obama...she looks and sounds like her.

That was cool and informative to watch. I completely understand the BBQ and feeling out of place. Yet at the same time, some of the BEST times I've ever had. Some of my closest friends are black and I've spent MANY cookouts, Thanksgivings, Christmases, Birthdays, Fourth of July, Easter, Memorial Day, and just hanging out for no specific reason, enjoying fellowship, games, and good food! They truly felt like family when I was alone. I think more people should open themselves up to experiencing that and learning about other cultures.

I am just learning about the watermelon history. I didn't know that was the first crop we sold after slavery and that business was scandalized by jealousy and envy.

I live in New Orleans, and I and most of the people I know have close friendships and family members from all sorts of cultural backgrounds. Its hard for me to understand that there are places in this country where that isn't the norm. We have so many festivals here, and whether they are focused on black or latino or asian culture, people of all backgrounds feel very comfortable attending them.

When they mentioned the melon stero type I felt a deep rooted hurt, first of all because I had not heard about that before, and I could feel them carrying all the burdens these injustices brings and it is heavy the yoke our people bear.

Well, first of all there's no such thing as black culture black is a color, and culture is based on customs, and customs vary from one household to another as well as city, countries etc. Some black people consider themselves black Americans. Because they have no idea of Africa. And they get tired of being named every few centuries from negro, darky, to colored, to African-American, they have built this country and fought for this country way before a lot of white people settled in it so they are full-blooded Americans. They took the birthright for our ancestors now they want to take the birthright from us. Some are educated some aren't, some are supportive compassionate some aren't. Just like any other race of people,, before a lot of them came to these United States their ancestors were involved in tribal wars ( just like other countries), so just because a person share the same complexion does not mean that they are connected in any way. One's color have nothing to do with their loyalty, compassion, love, respect punctuality etc It's merely a color don't be afraid. And don't be divided or United by it, be divided or united by what's right and what's wrong. Period! Our Creator does not look at the things we look at. He has no desire or care for the wrapping, but what's inside of it. And what it bears witness to, or bear witness against. Be well.

Besides the festival dedicated to our skin color, it’s not that different from being in a white family is it?😂 That’s why we should all just be called Americans.. what’s so different? If we could stop focusing on the ignorance and the racism and whatever else we can all be truly equal.. until then we’re held back by our own
