I’m sure this is outstanding …. but I’ve drawn a hard line. 200 hundo is stupid. Even 150 is stupid. If we quit buying bourbon at these stupid prices then maybe we bring sanity back into the market. This is not a criticism against any reviewer or anything. It’s just a criticism of where we are at the market.

I have an interview with Ian Stirsman on my channel and loved speaking with him. Also did a blind of the 2022 and 2023 gatsby on my channel and the 2023 won. Solid bottle

I personally was a bit underwhelmed with this bourbon. I had this in a flight with Kentucky Owl batch 8, Jack Daniel's 12yr and Stagg 22b. It was last place for me. Cheers!

You should do, Tin Cup 14er vs gatsby 2022 vs gatsby 2023. To bad you don’t have Dickels Cascade Moon 15 year barrel proof 89 proof or id say that would be an interesting one to throw in to since it’s the same age and also barrel proof.

Great review. $270 at TW in my state. If i had a chance to buy this at $270 or Michter's 10 year 2023 at $300, it sounds like the Remus might be the better buy.

I wonder if the bourbon industry will realize they are shooting themselves in the foot, by making so many special runs and neglecting the base products that got them recognized in the first place. Jim beam was once great whiskey, now it’s new make nasty garbage. 😢😢😢

I saw a bottle of this in a liquor store in Lawrenceburg, IN, almost across the street from Ross and Squibb. They wanted $298 for it, so I passed. I did get a bottle of Remus Highest Rye Bourbon, which is also delicious.

I was lucky enough to stumble across this bottle just over MSRP recently and couldn't resist. 100% agree with the candied banana nose right off the bat. On the palate for me it was like if someone barrel aged a funnel cake and drizzled it with chocolate 🤌

Matt does a great job here of comparing this to knob creek 18 and calumet 16, etc. These lower proof high oak bottle really are enjoyable. Idk if they a 9.0+ territory. But I do appreciate the effort to put some higher wood notes into a non hazmat format. This is great stuff. But its not for everybody at the price that high price. Id classify this as if you find a bottle bring it home. But dont pay a premium for it wether that be at a bar or retail.

I was going to pick up Remus VI and Remus VII, but found the Remus Gatsby Reserve 2023 about a month ago and bought it. I enjoy it and have given away most of the bottle as samples to friends to try. 🥃

Fully agree with your (swoon much?) assessment, Matt. This years edition of the Remus gatsby is sweeter than last years, more well rounded overall ( i opened the 2023 before i killed the 2022 & tasted them side by side). Bottlings are Finally living up to the potential of MGPs juice! IMO, this years Gatsby is better than M10 (generally), as well as the KC 15 & 18, RR13, and more balanced than JD12- all in the same age/ price bracket. I am curious to see how it fares next to RRR5…

I've watched many of your videos over the past 2-3 years and this was the first time I got that vibe. Also, if I'm honest, I'm skeptical when I see media samples because surely you wouldn't want to ruin a good relationship with a bad review.
