I heard that Calling it a Fiddle Is them Naming it a Fiddle because it is used Primarily in the South,and FOR Country Music,so It has a Different sound to it,When it comes to a TYPE Of Music....So to them "Fiddle" Is them Just saying "Country Violin,meant for Southern Music,and Country Music"...So it IS a Violin,But it IS a Southern/Country Instrument For Country and For Southern Music...So it is just a Regional Slang For Violin..So,from what I Hear,you are basically looking @ a "Fiddle",Because it is BEING Played in a Southern Music/Country Music Song,For "The Devil" Song.. So,IE: Fiddle and Violin are One And The same. @ LEAST,that`s what I heard seen Through my Observations..I MIGHT be wrong,But I have my doubts! This song won a Grammy in 1979. Charlie Daniels played fiddle and guitar. The Charlie Daniels Band (CDB) was a Southern Rock mainstay. Charlie was writing songs as early as 1964 and was a session musician and collaborated with many artists. Charlie hosted an annual event called the "Volunteer Jam" for many years that attracted many other major Southern Rock bands. He was a member of the Grand Ol' Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Charlie passed away July 6 of this year. RIP "Long Haired Country Boy".

A fiddle has a taller bridge with a slightly sharper angle than a Violin has. The Fiddle is designed to be played off the chin at the front of the neck, where as a violin's bridge is designed for an angle to the side of the neck.

@@obiesunstreak2409 Wrong, Literally the only difference is what music is played on it. They are one and the same depending on who is playing it. They are physically the same. Classical players will usually choose different strings for their playing though. As for bridge height, and action, that is player preference and has nothing to do with it being a violin or fiddle.

When I was a boy, this was almost my theme song. My mother and I went on vacation to Cherokee, NC. We went out to dinner at a place that had live music. During a break, the lead singer started to brag that their band was the only band in the area that had an electric fiddle (this was back in the 80's). He was so proud of this and he invited anyone to make a request of him and his electric fiddle. I timidly approached the stage (8 years old at the time) and requested "Devil went down to Georgia". (The version you played didn't show it, but in the album version, the Devil's part was done with an electric fiddle). The lead singer told me "You know, son, I have looked everywhere but I can't find the sheet music for that song. So I'm afraid I don't know how to play it." With a sad, disappointed face, I turned and went back to join my mother at our table, but not before asking the question," What's the use of having an electric fiddle if you can't play 'Devil went down to Georgia'?" The guy's bandmates were rolling on the stage laughing and my mother tried to crawl under our table.

@@markcoleman2890 I was 19 when this song was released in 1979. The Charlie Daniels Band was NOT played on Country stations, but rather on the FM album rock stations like KSHE FM 94.7 in St. Louis at that time. This was the single that broke CDB through to the Country stations. They were, during the 1970's considered a Southern Rock band, and toured with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Outlaws. Listen to CDB songs like Blue Star (from the same studio album, Million Mile Reflections, as The Devils Went Down to Georgia), Birmingham Blues (from 1975's Nightrider), and Midnight Wind (from the 1977 album, Midnight Wind), which are blues- and rock-based.

My guitar teacher once told me, it's a violin until you spill beer on it - then it's a fiddle.

It's seems odd to think about it now, but when this song first came out many radio stations would bleep the word bitch or replace it with 'son of a gun'.
@Tuesdays_Gone
@Tuesdays_Gone 3 года назад
They did, except for a local Atlanta station, 96 Rock. All stations here in Georgia play the “son of a gun” version, now. I like the original best. I think it’s ok to call the devil and sob, myself. I think as Charlie got older (and he was a Christian) he felt convicted using that word. LOL. I’m sure he probably preferred the “son of a gun” version in his older age. Anyway, we lost a good man in 2020.

@@Tuesdays_Gone He recorded it both ways, but he never backed down. He brought out Ain't No Rag, its a Flag in response to 9/11. He was then invited to perform at some DC event, but organizers said he couldn't play that song since it might offend someone. He responded "If they would be offdnded by my songs, they would be offended by me." He blew off the invite and stayed home.

IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT SON OF A GUN IS A MUCH BETTER LYRIC FOR COMPETING WITH SATAN...ONCE HE HAS YOU CURSING HE HAS YOU GAMBLING AND CURSING ,TIME IS ON HIS SIDE...WHAT WOULD GOMER DO?
@MGower4465
@MGower4465 3 года назад
@@robertchandler5055 If Gomer is who you pattern your life over, you could do worse. Thing is, the son of a gun phrase is often used to express admiration of even approval. That is not appropriate when one addresses the Devil. That cursing somehow leads inevitably to other sins, though, is not valid. By that progression, saying a bad word leads to killing someone, which is nonsense. There is no gateway sin, each is committed in isolation. Once done, repeating the same sin is more likely, but does not by itself make additional moral decay certain.

Oh my Dears, You guys are precious. Charlie Daniels is just one person, not two. He is the one playing the fiddle (violin) as it is called in the South (Country music). Secondly, the Carlie Daniels has been around for at least 50 years. He was one of the leads into what is now known as Country Rock. The song itself was a "down home explanation" of what was going on in this country and its leadership. This has been performed all over the world so it is hard to say where is one was at. If you liked this, try his Simple Man, The South Going to do it Again, Uneasy Rider and many more.

His first name is Charlie and his last name was Daniel until he had it changed to Daniel. He grew up in a small community near Wilmington, NC. On a side note, he has a cousin named Francis Daniel who's a preacher.

The main difference between a fiddle and a violin is the shape of the bridge. Since the violin is usually used to play single notes at a time, the bridge is highly arched. The fiddle is flatter to allow to play chords playing 2 to even 3 strings at a time.

They are identical in their physical appearance. What distinguishes a from a is the style of music that is played on the instrument; it's all in how you play it. ... , in contrast, is associated with a wide variety of music styles including Cajun, bluegrass, folk, and country.

When your at symphony watching someone dressed up in fancy clothes play. It is called a violin. When you see a dude in old Jean's, cowboy hat, and flannel. Sitting around on the front porch, drinking and cussing at their dog. That's a "FIDDLE".
