This is 2 shocks in one, I wasn't expecting Sphere Hunter to make and Elden Ring video and now IRON PINEAPLLE is in the comments of that video I didn't expect to exist? What a day. Wait, yall played together? Fuck I would have loved to see that streamed or something.
Aside from maybe Far Cry. yeah I do feel like they really need to step up their game and also does that Ready or Not game but I'm not really that interested
"This is just open-world Dark Souls." A critic says like it was supposed to be a deterrent. Meanwhile me: "Wow. That like... sounds something I'd love to try."
@@satsubatsu347 lmao I’ve heard the exact opposite of that, are they just bs? Cause I’ve seen multiple videos of people stumbling into cool stuff and bosses
Dark souls 3 was nearly six years ago, and it'll be three years since sekiro by the time this comes out. Why the hell are people using "it's just more dark souls" like it's a negative. I'm literally THIRSTING for more souls in my life, sign me the fuck up
Pretty sure Miyazaki said he didn't want to make another souls game after ds3... I was expecting something different; not just, everything we've already seen/done. You've been able to mod previous titles into almost completely new games so I don't understand your "thirst."
@@g00gleisgayerthanaids56 I may be late, but i'm fairly certain i've heard that fromsoft is content with making these kinds of games for us as long as we like it. And that's the thing, as much as 'it's just big dark souls' is a meme in the community and a point of critique for people, it's more than that, which should be plain as day just from watching this video. Souls fans are clowns that make fun of their own games and say Miyazaki has a foot fetish, we're walking shitposters, so take anything we say with a grain of salt.
@@ISetYourFaceOnFire there is 0 reason to change the backstab animation they chose to allocate there reasources to more productive areas like bosses and enemy design which every area has different and diverse enemies and bosses .every single game reused animations also how can you make a backstab any better? It’s a waste of time when they’re valuable time could be spent else where. The game is not only beautiful but, its deep. It’s a 200hr game with nothing but, fresh areas and enemies reviewer are already saying it’s the highest rated from game ever I believe DS2 was a 92. I played the nwt this game isn’t just game of the year it’s the greatest game ever made
Speaking of asthetic I've noticed that it seems to be taking a bit of inspiration from old irish/Gaelic folklore. As an Irish person myself this is pretty neat to see
That cultural inspiration has always been present in the series if I'm not entirely mistaken. Not that that's a bad thing, on the contrary, I like it. Still, if this game has even *more* of it, or shows it more obviously, well, count me in! Early medieval mythology with completely unpronounceable grammar, here I come!
I think mts pretty neat to but I would expect some other stuff below the surface level stuff theyve shown us to also contribute a ton to the world. Like Bloodborne being a central European victorian gothic fantasy on thr surface but having a plethora of japanese Shinto/Buddhist imagery/subtext. Or like Sekiro being mostly japanese on the surface but having profound korean inspiration. Cant wait to see what else the game will provide.
If you told me they'd let me jump *normally* in any game but sekiro I'd call you a dirty liar how dare you fill me with such hope. And yet, look where we are now, lol.
From what I've read from these people, they wanted everything souls related to disappear even the animations(mostly the animations) and something that no one has ever experienced before to emerge.
I guess it's more the aesthetic than anything for me. I'm not salty really, I know I'm gonna have a great time with it, and I'm getting it day 1, but since it is a new series, I suppose I wish it had a little more of its own visual style than it appears to
@@ThePlKLE Really? I find the aesthetics to be vastly different. Sure, the engine is the same but everything is so much brighter and more alive, because you are now playing in an actual living world instead of a ruined post-apocalyptic nightmare. I think the visuals remind me most of sekiro.
The tone of your voice conveys so much happiness in this video. I'm glad you get to cover FromSoft games as well. Cannot wait to see you make a video about the full game.
the DS2's aesthetics comparison is so on point. the armor design and color pallet, colorful, but faded, not so contrasty as DS3. I love DS2's aesthetics and im really glad then went that way
Not really. Elder ring armor design is mostly realistic and historical just like in ds3(complete opposite of ds2). Architecture is also fancy and beautiful like in ds3, so basically colorful ds3
I actually think the faded color looks bad. Still interesting that somebody else finally mentioned it since I haven't really seen that brought up in any communities.
@@BIGMILKO yeah, in the end it all comes to personal taste. But it’s a feature used a lot lately to bring a more realistic art direction to games and movies.
Solid coverage of the network test possibly one of the best I’ve seen so far subscribing, can’t believe I’ve gone this far without discovering your channel.
as another reviewer said "not being stuck to having to fold in on yourself allows the dungeons to have a different feel and experience". Just simply the dungeons not all being big circles is not a bad thing, but rather a positive I think. as you never know where you will go, sometimes you will loop sometimes not, instead of always being aware of, oh now im going back to complete the circle which is a feeling you start getting once you have played a few of these games and get a feel for this sort of design.
It's definitely a good thing that the game now has dungeons that just... end. Yes, looping dungeons tend to be more organic in terms of exploration, but using too many looping dungeons would actually make the dungeons feel less natural since you can always expect that cave to lead to an exit someplace. Having a good combination of dead ends and loops makes exploration feel fresh with each encounter.
Watching this and Iron Pineapple's video on this back-to-back was so satisfying. I think a lot of subscribers would love to see this channel tackle retrospectives on FromSoftware's releases.
My favourite game mechanic ever is one of the player is just living in this world instead of the world living around the player. You feel small because of it and this game looks like it won’t disappoint due to the gimmick.
I may have been denied a spot in the network test but at least I can live vicariously through my favorite content creators. Can't wait for the release!
Honestly, I'm so glad this game is _not_ Dark Souls IV, but the culmination of several games in one open world. The DS combat was always fun. It is the tight labyrinth level design many gamers, including Suzi, praise combined with the endless repetitive respawn (not much variation there, except for DS II) that I find tedious. :/ So to me short dungeons and only some (legacy dungeon) areas classic DS sounds great. :D DS combat in an open, cyclic and thus somewhat changing environment + jumping, sneaking & riding + less backtracking and efficient fast travel mechanics = the game of my dreams.
I really hope they include an option to simply make it press triangle to switch between one hand and two hand even if it makes you have to hold the triangle button to interact.
I'm also a big fan of Dark Souls 2's aesthetic. It has a weird kind of "fantastical mundanity" to it that Berserk has in spades and I'm glad to see it replicated here in Elden Ring, at least from what snippets of it I've seen.
Haven't even started watching but lemme just say i love how you break almost all the gameplay mechanics down to give a clear image of what playing the game is like.
It looks like everything I ever wanted from a Souls game. Sekiro didn't do it for me, this is right up my alley and then some. Edit: Correction, I always wanted a way to sheath my weapon and it seems like it's not in this game either. So *almost* everything I wanted.
Eh, you basically need a weapon ready at all times in From games so that never bothered me. I’d love to see Trick Weapons again though sometime. Playing DS3 Champion’s Ashes makes me realize how fun the trick weapons are in DS style combat.
I loved the hell out of Sekiro but this is looking better. It doesn’t seem to have the parrying mechanics which I’ll miss but I’m looking forward to this overall.
You nailed it with the Dragon's Dogma comparison. This game seems to be using some inspiration from that title's best mechanics and animation styles (the staff casting with the massive shields hits my nostalgia bone just right) and I cannot WAIT for more. Glad you and Pine got to take a peak, Suzi - top stuff, as always.
I haven't played it obviously but everything I've seen has made me feel like this is gonna fill the niche of the dragons dogma sequel I've been dreaming of
I've mostly followed the Soulsbourne series at a distance, watching others play than trucking through them myself, but everything I see from Elden Ring really makes me want to jump in. I love layered worlds to explore and the amount of crazy magic they've shown off looks like it would be a lot of fun to use! Then there's a lot of smart design decisions like being able to level up at multiple checkpoints, or your healing flask regenerating if you take out hordes of enemies. Feels like they really thought through what an open world approach would need to work well. They even put in a map! Never thought I'd see the day! Glad to see your thoughts on it, Suzi! Looking forward to RE4!
can't decide if i want to watch this or not...because on one hand I want to go in as blind as possible...but on the other hand I want to support the channel lol
There's stealth in Dark Souls 1. You just gotta walk real slow and equip the ring of fog and (optionally) the slumbering dragon crest ring. It makes most enemies ridiculously unaware of you.
This game definitely seems like the culmination of everything From Software has learned from making the Souls games. I'm a little sad that from what I've seen there's less of Sekiro than what I would have wanted, but it was a bit foolish to expect that anyway 🤷♀️. Very much looking forward to seeing more of Elden Ring!
Idk bro, theres a lotta sekiro-like weapon "skills" and stealth. Clearly it pulled most from the DS games, but there's plenty of sekiro in it. Honestly Bloodborne is the game I'm seeing the least amount of comparability to.
@@esmith2k2 I was mainly referring to the combat mechanics themselves. The combat is definitively Souls in nature from what I've seen. Much less of the fast-paced back and forth which I was a big fan of.
@@LargeInCharge77 I have 160+ hours in the game, and I still regularly go back and replay some of my favorite boss fights. It certainly hasn't gone stale for me. I think we just have different tastes in video game combat.
@@LargeInCharge77 I guess it could be dull for someone who prefers magic/archery. I loved it. Parries are fun, stealth is a nice option, figuring out which move to use to avoid unblockable attacks is nice, the super fast run speed allows more freedom in combat, aerial attacks add a new layer, shinobi tools like shuriken and fireworks are effective against certain tougher enemies, etc. Of course, even all of these things seem rather limiting after 2 playthroughs like you said, but I think the bosses do a great job of making you use everything you know how to do in order to beat them!
As someone who strives for a perfect Hybrid build I cannot wait to get my hands on every Spell, Ash, Weapon, and Armor I can find. I have one goal before Elden Ring, Max Level on EVERY Souls Game (except Demon’s Souls cuz I have no PS5)
@@huneylove5 I had never heard of it so I just watched a video on it. Obviously it’s early in development but it might be a good one but something about the lack of any info on the developer, according to the video I watched, makes me a little pessimistic/cautious with that one
I love how half the people I've watched cover Elden Ring say its DS4 while the other half say its entirely not, and all of them have been happy about it. Makes me feel like the game was designed to give you the feeling of the game that YOU wanted, rather than what they just thought was wanted.
Very excited for your Resident Evil 4 video. Just out of curiosity, since you seem to have grown up PS1 era games, what are your thoughts on Symphony of the Night?
the thing you said about wanting to become better at video games in general because of dark souls? Me too. This was the series that made me want to be good at games when I play them.
This video convinced me to pre-order the game. :D I usually never pre-order and buy my games used (I'm simply quite poor), but I'm so freaking hyped for Elden Ring... couldn't resist! Let's hope we get more starting classes, including something similar to DS3's Assassin class. ^^
Great video! I'm so freaking excited to play this game, and all these videos coming out praising the hell out of just the network test says so much already. Honestly From always knocks these games out of the park. Also great American McGee Alice background music
Fun fact, Dark Souls 2 was apparently supposed to be a sandbox game. But it ended up being rushed and the assets all had to be repurposed which is why it's levels were so disconnected from one another.
I keep telling myself... "I'm not gonna watch any more Elden Ring clips until the game comes out? 😤 And yet here I am. Damn, I need stronger will power.. 😪
I can't wait for the "prepare to cry" and other lore series covering this game; I'm especially excited for "Can You Beat Elden Ring with only ___" videos This is so exciting, thank you for this video! :,)
Cant wait to play this game, it looks fantastic. Melina is going to be everyone's new waifu. Thanks for the review Suzi, it has me salivating in waiting.
This new Level Up maiden worries me. She looks too normal appearance-wise, and we all know that normal-looking things in Miyazaki games are the illest of omen.
I have never been this excited about a FromSoft game. It appears to fuse what I love about FromSoft and what I love about games in general- exploration and wonder.
