yeah, i wanna see a space battle where they have to use thrusters of any kind for steering and stabilization. no gyros (okay, gyro is fine but limited to maybe half strenght?), no quantum rudder, no helicopter engines or others that work like that
The towel thing at 6:09 is a reference to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, where one of the characters has a towel that has nutrients and other things that helps him to survive.
Just a suggestion, I would always set shields to be as close to your hull as possible, this minimizes any unnecessary damage you might take from a larger hit box.
I didn't realize it at first, but ScrapMan started building the most function over form build as soon as he started. Just slapped on an engine to a cockpit and took off. After he made it a little better, but it was very much a function build. Great job scrapman, always love these very basic but very destructive builds
This update literally immediately made me want to get Trailmakers. Originally I didn’t know whether I wanted to get it or not but Spacebound is convincing me to get it.
So I notice that when you are flying around with the shields on, its pretty clear with the polygon outline. But once you get hit, you can see waves of distortion when the shots landed and more and more the shield itself becomes visible, indicating its trying to hold on before the shield breaks. super immersive if you ask me. also helps to memorize your shields state so you dont lose your shields in combat.
I just wanted to say, in space you now gain 3D dimensional flight controls, so by placing thrusters under, on top, on its sides, you can move in 3d. This means you can move like a plane/helicopter hybrid, with the added space drift you get in the game. I can't wait to see you make with this information. For reference, you can look at the ship flight profiles/characteristics from Elite Dangerous, or Star Citizen.
You're giving this way to much credit, moving in 3D space is something any building game has & considering how many cut corners and dropped balls there are you're probably going to be disappointed by how this would actually work in trailmakers, with a 'space rudder' etc.
@@-aid4084 Honestly i'll be disappointed if it doesn't... then again I might be biased cause I love Lightning/Electric Attacks. Frankly I bet it will. Surely the Devs woulda had the sense to anticipate the combo of mass Shield Gens and Mass making less difference in Space, especially if only few to no Space Rudders are used in the same Build. ... unless... the Devs did NOT guard against it hoping to try such a stunt against ScrapMan and Yzuei in the upcoming Space Duels and gamble on them not also thinking of it...
i remember watching you play the betas for this game before they added sea based things, and now i have seen it grow to this point and am looking forward to the release of spacebound to play in it myself
Scrapman, once the dlc is offically released, you guys should do not only space battles but replica from star wars and star trek and many scifi genres.
Moving the Quantum Rudders can help building ships like the one Boba Fett had in Star Wars. You could make it land on the thruster side and after taking off you rotate the rudders to have the thrusters point backwards instead of down
Man this update looks amazing.....Thank you for sharing your early access with us! Would love to see you go over the fix for the tires glitching into the ground.
Would love to see the quantum rudders have some functionality where you can fully disable/enable them..Similar to turning on or off a thruster. Would allow for some insane controllability options and the ability to swap between different levels of movement.
6:09 I was not expecting a reference to Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy. Thumb out, towel over shoulder, Pan-galactic-gargle-blaster in hand, godspeed chirpo.
It would be cool to revisit some of your creations that you had issues with any balancing, like the motorbike. Really, any creation that used helicopter engines for control. That could be cool to see a BEFORE / AFTER comparison to how much better it is (or isn't) with the new parts.
22:30 putting the rudders on hinges would be good for making strafing runs without the need of a turret. You keep going in the same direction, while pivoting the main body of the craft to face a target. But if you can hotkey the rudder to turn it off, I guess you could do the same by turning them off and spinning with gyros?
There is no sonic boom cone in space because as high-speed aircraft displace the molecules around it, it leaves a "cone" of pressurized air in its wake there is no air in space that is why there is no sonic boom cone.
Holding alt and pressing W,A,S or D to rotate blocks makes building much quicker and more enjoyable. Takes maybe half an hour to get used to, I strongly advise you to do that
Day 12 or 15... I lost track many moons ago. I've gone insane. The lust for spacebound grows ever stronger as I grow no closer, the only way there a slow marching of time. I grow insane, blocked, incapable of exercising my creativity for space. Lost, bored, unable to do naught but wait in my sad isolation. Good video:)
Do the shields layer? Like if you have multiple ones overlapping do you have to disable them one by one? Either way I would love to see a GIANT space battleship. Since you wouldn't need to worry about air resistance it could be whatever shape and it could be massive.
HHHHHH YEEEESSS! This is especially great because I can see exactly how you could build ships from books and such! Jim Holden's Rocinante from Leviathan wakes, with the more scientifically accurate zero-drag and artificial gravity on one end, and Spensa's M-bot with the energy shields, EMP's and Quantum Rudders on the other! It's so COOOOLLL I also appreciate the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reference lol. This is such a good game Also, "Hulrum" literally means hollow space in danish, which is a fun easter egg
Damn, praised be the YT algorythm! I didn't play this game for over 3 years, didn't watch this channel for about the same time, but the algorythm decided to suggest this video anyway. And now I'm hype to reinstall the game when the update hits and build an even cooler space ship, than what I was capable to slap together in Starfield, haha! I already have ideas in my head to put the quantum rotors on a switch to be able to boost and drift with the space ship! :D Also thanks for the great video ScrapMan!
Rotating the quantum rudder on a hinge would be useful for doing extreme angle of attack shots. You could fly by something and, in theory, turn your ship to face 180 degrees around in an instant while still moving more or less forwards. AOA is actually a very, very valuable dogfighting attribute for any boom-and-zoom style plane, as it lets you do snap shots on your target that you otherwise couldn't. In atmosphere it creates excessive drag and G-forces, but in space, the rudders are your only source of drag. Have fun surprising people with that.
I would love to see unconventional propulsion and weapon builds. Anything along the line of glitch, recoil, complex, or strange methods will do. Making quantum rudders on every side workable would be interesting, given that they are designed to be the tailing edge.
if you use the quantum rudder on a plane and only attach them to each wing end, as well as at least one on the tail for pitch, maybe another for jar. For usual pitch you just need to have one in the front and one in the back, because to pitch, you need the points of directionality behind each other, while one quantum rudder only provides one in flight line.
Love the content, hope you never stop making it. I think you should try and make a invisible rocket, I don't know how you are going to do it but you got we all love you. Keep up the good work.
I would love seamless transitions between space and a map in this game, and when entering the atmosphere too fast you need a heat shield or you get destroyed
I wonder if you could turn on and of somehow the space routors. That and/or pairs on hinges tunring oposite directions could make a parachute manouver effect. Also, I think that, unless there is an asthetic choise, small shields are better. Less area to hit on. Also Also, 2 shields in front, one up and one down. They are heavy, yeah. But that would be my aim.
12:52 The quantum rudder isn't acting as a gyro in this instance. It's just acting the same way a standard yaw control surface works in an atmosphere. I think the easiest way to think of the quantum rudder is that it's just another type of control surface (like flaps and ailerons) that just works in space.
Don't really know much about the logic stuff etc in Trail makes but if possible setting up the quantum rudders for variable strength would be coool. Like a drifting combat mode or a smooth flying cruising mode.
Jesus this is amazing! Not to mention for the potential of a campaign, like the Airborne update. Perhaps we'll finally get to know the origins of that campaign's Mothership, and if there are more like it.
Video Idea: EMP battle You build any vehicle with some dinamite attached to it. And assign it to a button. Whenever the EMP hits you'll have a random chance to blow up.
Imagine they add a mechanic between worlds, where you can enter and exit planets like the danger zone, testing area, high seas and also the airborn expansion, all being accesible through space! If lightbulb sees this, please add this and thank me later!
Quantum Rudders on hinges actually sound like they have potential for use in missile systems. I'm not sure exactly how yet but that ability maintain direction but turn all of your thrust in a different one may have some niche application there.
Having the quantum motors on a steering hinge could allow you to offset your aim in a given direction while allowing you to continue in a mostly straight trajectory
There is no sound barrier in space, you need atmosphere to have a sound barrier (also fyi the sound barrier is not a single speed, it depends on atmospheric density)
i can imagine a lot of star wars design philosophy coming into this. Like how the Y-Wing is durable, does a lot of damage, but is slow. The A-Wing is fast and nimble, does less damage but shoots faster, also is less durable. While the X-Wing is the middle gound.
Some good new stuff. Nice! I hope they will finally find the time to add 1x1x1 servos/engine/rotating bits and 1x1x1 sensors. Only having 2x2xsomething is the biggest pain.
Gee, this opens up so many options, not just for the space area but even the ability to add all sorts of new flavour to old challenges. I think it'd be funny to see you try and make a 'realistic' spacecraft, not using the quantum rudder at all and either no gyros or very low power gyros.
Putting the quantum rudders on hinges would let you fire in a different direction from your direction of travel... although just putting the guns on hinges would work just as well, I think.
Something I would love to see does not need the space update just a rocket launcher and a piston to slow down the rocket so it flys more like a mortar, kinda like how you use the piston to launch the bombs but reversed, and one better do a battle with the rocket mortars! Please and thank you
I do not think so in trailmakers because in one of scrapmans “Will the Rocket Fall Straight Down, or Fly Backwards?” The rockets did not seem to gain any speed when he launched it out facing backwards in a super fast car, the rocket just fell straight down. @suicidalbanananana
The floatüng quantum rudder hologram looks great but it would make it more interesting if it would come from somewhee. For example the chirpo hand or a watch. Based on the effect when you put them on the hinges, you can think of them like wheels. I think if you put some in the front of the craft you can turn like a car just in 3D :-D
0:54 sorry for 🤓 but you are in a 1g environment and the atmosphere (for wings and stuff) is indicated in the gauge. Or maybe I’m wrong, or you realize that later, but I had to write this down because I’m a space nerd.
First person in Spacebound combat takes me back to the classic PC gaming days of the first two Wing Commander games... but with much better graphics. Yes, I am that old.
Do propellors work in space though? The energy shields will be so good for making turrets, you can have a directional shield that moves as you aim or a shield that just protects the entire build. And is it possible to attach to the flying chirpo shops with anchor blocks and just ride around with them?
Im so excited for this update!!! that gyro stabilizer is gonna revolutionize this game! it"le at least make my rc missiles much smaller and easier to control. Edit: upon some thinking my ultimate goal of an air to air missile might be possible now
things i want for an next update: disable player names in server settings, radar block, energy system that power different things(upgrade weapons, thrusters etc.).like solar panels and nuclear reactor and that the nuclear reactor does a huge explosion when it gets destroyed
Nah it would just make the shield color change not the ship. There is however a way you can put a glass texture on creations and color it black that way basically everything would be slightly opaque. I've tried it in the original game but everything else is brighter than the glass texture so no matter what color it is you can still see it, however in space it should blend a lot better with black glass. And if you're wondering, no texturing your creation with glass does not make your creation act like glass it still has the same durability.
Great idea though, I imagine we'll see a lot of stealth fighter builds now colored and textured as black glass. Edit: I'm so freakin excited for this update. I used to play with Legos and knex and evolved to Rokkenbok (an expensive version of LEGO but in a much larger 3 dimensional Way similar to how trailmakers works) and that was 20 years ago... So this is my childhood reborn in a virtual space and it's purely amazing.
Idea for next trailmakers Instead of a limited block count, restricted blocks or anything You need to have a certain type of block on your vehicle That block needs to be protected at all costs and the last man standing with that block intact is the winner You set the rules, i don't really play trailmakers so i don't know much or if this'll work
😳😳😳😳😳 you could make double shield's with the sliders. one smaller and the other, bigger. probably only viable on a big spaceship with the heavy weight, but non the less a first idea.
I have an idea for dogfights! Have a ship that doesn't have a shield and has only one weapon: the EMP cannon, and have a dynamite in your ship. If it actually presses random buttons on your ship, it might explode you and that's the fun part. Edit: I guess you'll need to wait until it actually comes out to test multi-player ideas
20:00 this looks a lot like starfield lol but way better for space battles. If only starfield could have adopted Spacebound physics and building instead of making it so damn difficult. Just the build aspect and the fluidity of it and the infinite/edgeless map would have made it so much better. Take notes Bethesda!!!!! This is the work of masters.
