Thank you Kalle for another beautiful video and for talking about the subject of comparing. I think everyone can relate to that in different degrees nowdays. And it takes away all the joy from creating. Even comparing yourself to yourself! You remember we spoke about that horrible top 10 list in the youtube studio, which always compare your latest video to your earlier videos. So many times I’ve lost the joy just because that list have told me that ”i was better before”. That is so heartbreaking, and it takes away the focus on what is truly important and why you are doing what youre doing in the first place. But social media is made to make us compare and get addicted and constantly chasing more. Im so glad to hear that you are taking action by stop following accounts that stresses you. I think just being concious about this and how it effects your wellbeing is such a good ”shield” to all the noise out there. And to get back in the heart. I so much admire you and Christine for the work you do and the life your are building together ❤️ In the midst of all the renovations and the new exciting chapter that will soon unfold in your life, I wish you a peaceful year ❤✨

First of all, thank you for taking the time to watch it ❤️ Exactly that top 10 list is the death of creativity! I absolutely hate it 😔 Agree, and its really hard to not look and compare because the apps are literally designed to keep us scrolling and looking. Don’t forget, Kalle, that you are nesting as well. It’s not just a mothering instinct. Not just to protect but to provide. It’s a very natural and masculine characteristic. I rarely give my very grown up children advice, unless they ask me. My experience is that this works best. I could give you some advice, but I am biting my tongue. Let it be enough to say that you are doing the very best you can do. Becoming a parent is one of the best things in life and with the first one there is a lot to learn. You will be alright. Support from others is of the greatest importance. Getting help with this new adventure is ok. Parents whom help in all kinds of ways. If that is not possible then friends need to step up and help with all kinds of jobs. Most important of all is that you stop that nasty voice in your head. You are not a piece of shit, unless you think of shit as in manure. Fertile and making things grow. How about that? Thinking of yourself as a fertile spirit who is doing his best and has been making lots of things grow! I hope this does not sound like advice. Take good care of yourself and your little family. Good luck with it

I do have another suggestion for the water situation that could help now. Alaskans that are chopping through ice to get water often make a “spring box”. This is a wooden box that surrounds the opening to the water. It is heavily insulated. There is a insulated lid on top that is pulled off. Underneath, the water doesn’t freeze or only freeze a little. Much less effort to get your water.

Love your honesty Kalle! I was like you 1,5-2 years back, could not sit still and felt lazy when I needed to just do nothing for an entire day. I almost hit the wall, and I'm still recovering from stress even though I didn't get totally burnet out (by that I mean not being able to get out of bed). But I believe that the more you rest the better you get at it. Now I rest most of my days to recover, and it's an absolute necessity and I no longer feel lazy. Regarding your bathroom, I wish you all the best and would love if there was some way to make a donation to you and your family to make your dream come true without having to commit to a monthly payment. Love from Linköping (south of Sweden) ❤

So much of what you said about not being able to rest is very relatable. I’m a stay at home mom and my home is my work. It’s like living at my office in a way, I’m always surrounded by my work. I can only manage to relax when I physically can’t do the work I need to do at home, such as when I’m not at home. Or sick. Recently I realized how bad things had gotten because I was stuck in bed with Covid and it was the least stressed I’d felt in a long while. Surely there are better ways of getting rest than being sick! In any case I hope you manage to find some healthy ways to let go and relax in the coming months so you can rest a little before the baby comes.

I fully understand what its like living with no bathroom or running water. Im 70 years old and have always lived in a modern house with all convenience's. But there came a time I could no longer live in my big house alone. My son living 1000 miles away built me a tiny cabin on his property, summer of 2022. It was quite the challenge with no running water and no bathroom. Also living far north of the USA ,my first brutal winter. ( a bathroom with running water was under construction to my Tiny cabin, but wouldn't be working until the summer) that was a wonderful year with special memories. But Im from south of the USA, and needed my southern roots. The Tiny cabin is now a summer place. I spend my winter months back to my house in the deep south. ...May I suggest a bedside toilet for indoor use for Christine, (one of the medical type) they are quite inexpensive. I had one "inside my cabin" before the bathroom was built, and it was a life saver for me. Just a thought until she gets her real bathroom? .... Congratulations on all new things to come. keeping you in my prayers. ox

I suspect your feelings are deeper than you might think. Feeling like you always have to improve, not being or doing enough. Realising is a necessary and important first step. I found myself nodding along to so much of this video, Kalle, especially the part about trying to relax and feeling guilty about not getting things done. I felt guilty over my Christmas holidays about not relaxing "correctly." Like if I scrolled on my phone I was annoyed with myself that I wasn't reading a book. Definitely get that water well dug. Simple living shouldn't mean going without modern innovations. If you're having to work so hard just to drink water or take a shower it's probably taking away from all the other things in the area you could be doing or the projects that make your heart sing.

Looking at your fireplace it definitely requires some improvements. For example take a look at the Russian masonry fireplace and in particular Kuznetsov stove (and its many variations) for heating (I have build one and have video on my channel). Considering the fire-keeping regime (over the harsh winter season) you have, it will be a lot more efficient in burning and retaining heat. Also about your water concerns, have you thought about having a 10-20 m3 water storage (from your stream, rain), which clearly will need to be subgrounded (as not to freeze) connecting it to the house and using a simple hand-cranked pump to draw the water. It could be a considerably more cost effective method then drilling.

Kalle it makes perfect sense to make changes to your cabin so it fits what you need for your family. Its also your cabin, so making changes is entirely up to you (and Christina) and no one else. I have never lived in temperatures as cold as that, but having a more reliable water source, especially with a baby, and having the room you need as your family grows is really important to be able to stay there. I hope you manage to make the cabin stay warmer for you as that is going to be so important for the baby. But its also important to have work/life/rest balance so again I hope you manage to make that happen x

Another great video 🎉 this winter in the UK I bought a storage box which we put outside and filled it with food items that can stay outside in the cold 🥶 and lasts longer as storage inside is always limited….. children are a blessing….. the main thing with newborns is to rest when they rest… they love closeness and warmth and comfort …… my 2 would sleep for hours… it used to worry me but with time I realised they were amazing babies who slept most of the day and alllll night…. Never had sleepless nights…. journal the journey of being new parents with photos too… to be able to look back and reflect…. Love journaling ❤🎉❤…memories are everything in life…

I'm 23 and have a 2 year old daughter now. Becoming a mom really forced me to look at how I prioritize taking care of myself and how that directly impacts my baby. After giving birth, I felt very guilty about resting and being "lazy" even though I couldn't walk lol. Being a parent forces you to work on this and helps you incorporate rest into your hourly life with a newborn. The important thing is to look at what you value right now, and that is renovations and time with your girlfriend and baby boy when he comes. I promise that when your baby arrives, the only important thing in your mind will be spending time with him, sleeping and helping your girlfriend. Parenthood completely changes your priorities. Yes other things are still important, but the baby will always come first. But in order for the baby to come first, rest for you will become high on the list of things to do daily. You cannot be a good father and boyfriend without as much rest as you can get in the newborn stage, which won't be a lot lol. You'll swe your girlfriend go through post partum, breastfeeding, healing from birth and see how much rest will benefit her mind and body to have a level of homeostasis during a time of big change. You also deserve this rest because you're going to be a huge support to your new family. Make a list of the most important things you need to get done before the baby comes, water, kitchen etc and then let everything else be. A good question to ask yourself is "what do I want to model to my son about work and rest?" Do you want your son growing up with a dad passing out from exhaustion? Or a dad who works hard, spends time with family, and allows himself to decompress?

Journaling is a brilliant idea. I kept an online diary for like 5 years and recently I decided to re-read it from the start. I was in absolute shock and horror when I realized while reading it how for the past 2 years or so I pored hatred on myself basically none stop. Being angry with myself, insulting for smallest mistakes. I was bullying me. It was an eye opener. I had to work on re-wiring how I think and talk to myself. So yeah, journaling can do amazing things for you.🌟

When I lived in the middle of nowhere, in the 80's with 3 small children we build a bathroom and a septic tank. First we had a toilet and bath tub that drained into the septic tank. Our next step was a kitchen wood stove with a water reservoir so we could have heated water all the time. Then we ran a pipe through the kitchen wall into the bathroom so we could fill the tub with warm water both bathing and doing laundry. As time went on we built a pump at the kitchen sink and had that water drain into the same line to the septic tank. We pumped water out of the river most of the year and eventually put in a well. Enjoy your rest as much as your work😊

have you considered a diesel heater. These are used mainly in campervans and trucks, but more and more people are fitting them in their homes. The initial outlay is affordable, easy to install. Our son has just fitted one in his tiny home which is off grid and he is more than happy with it, instead of having to light the fire for some heat at the end of the day working. Now he uses the remote control and switches it on in bed so as he can get up into a warm room.

I live in Minnesota, in U.S.A. when my husband & i were first married, we lived in unheated farmhouse. It was heated with 2 woodstoves. Our kitchen and bathroom were next to each other and our lower big woodstove kept both warm & prevented the pipes from freezing. We lived in a town, so more amenities were available. We switched to furnace when our twins were born. We did remodel our bathroom because it was poorly insulated. Good luck keeping up with things. Can i suggest a few things: 1. Insulate the important rooms only. 2. Add a wood room in your cabin- ours held 1 1/2 pallets of wood. We kept 3 pallets of wood outside too. This way you have a constant supply readily available. Then you won't need to go get wood everyday. Make sure the inside wood is cut to fit your stove doors. 3. Cover your current water hole with pine bushes which will help insulatie it too. 4. Get a good soapstone for the top of your wood stove and bake bread there. Rustic loaves are easier. 5. Remember you are in charge of your own destiny. I'm 67 years old and that was a perfect lifestyle for my life when i was 25-34 years old. I may not live completely like that but i still grow my own crops and purchase locally & organically.

I understand about being addicted to being busy. To work on fixing this, I now say every day during my morning prayers and meditation, I am enough. I do enough. I have enough.

I feel all the feelings you do. It amazes me. Even though I knew that I wasn't the only one in the world to compare with others on social media, I did feel like I was alone feeling like sh%t trying to relax/can't stop thinking of all the things that I need to do etc. I haven't been able to read a chapter in a book or sit still to watch an episode of a series without getting up and completing something so I continue to feel productive. This has gone on for years--I'm 59. I am so glad to hear you are figuring this out earlier than I. Thank you for being honest with your feelings and sharing them. I feel a sense of freedom knowing that I'm not alone and that there are ways that I can deal with it--unfollowing accounts etc. Resting more and being more present in my life and surroundings is my top priority for 2024.

my word of 2024 is relax, stop taking life so seriously, and learn how to just be present. I have always worked hard, like you, set my own terms and I too am burnt out. I have also unsubscribed to topics and people who no longer serve me. my inbox is almost empty and I love it. I love you and Christine, Jonna Jinton and Johan, and Talisbuan....you are worth my time and its so relaxing to watch you all. Take care, love from AZ😎❤

Woow, Kalle😢 Don't do the same mistakes like me. I have been sick with stress for years now, because I have been pushing myself for too long. And now it effect my body so much that pain is an everyday companion. And my hormon levels flys down up and down like it want basicly😢 So please, do take care of yourself. The same goes for everyone else who reads this. Your body and mind are precious, love it and care for it❤

Im going on 27 and I have had a journal that ive been planning on writing in for 6-8 months now and I still havent started it. Maybe ill start sometime soon? :D I know im a big procrastinator, so I really got to push myself to be consistent with it. Thanks for reminding me haha Edit: Also Kalle, I think you need to stop going crazy with projects and just take a breather, relax before the baby comes and just enjoy your time because everyone is right, you wont get that time back. Go on some long walks, write more and just show us how you do it and enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts. Im certain you will be a great father!

We are always much harder on ourselves than others would be or like you said, what we would accept from someone else expecting from us. You guys are doing things our great-great-great grandparents had to do on a daily basis, albeit with some modern day frills, it's still a lot more than what we're all used to...physically and mentally and with a new baby on the way the pressure is multiplied several times. Back in the day people added rooms onto their homes as needed so there's no reason it can't work for you guys. I constantly have to remind myself to take on one thing at a time...make a list in order of importance and if there's a delay that's out of my control on one item I can move onto the next thing until the previous one can be worked on again. Give yourself some grace and make sure to take time to enjoy your lovely girl, the pregnancy, and this new life you're bringing into the world...time is fleeting and the little moments are the ones that stick with you and make you smile when you're older and least expect it. It took me a while to figure all that out but at 63 I feel confident in giving you that little bit of advice😉. I wish all the best and will keep watching to see how it all works out.

Thank you for sharing. I totally relate. I nearly burnt out in December after pushing myself to finish writing my new book for performers. After finishing the content, I gave myself permission to stop and rest. I just have to go over the final edits from the proof reader and finish the cover, then I can publish it. I will start that in the next couple of weeks. Well done for giving yourself permission too. It’s a courageous thing to admit publicly how hard you've been pushing yourself. Hope you have a wonderful year at a much slower pace 🌻🙏🏼🌟

My first born is 19 months old and I have to tell you, keep doing what you can to make life maybe a little easier for yourselves when your little one is born. That will be time well spent. You can’t store up sleep. If only we could. Lol Balance and rest is much needed, but you don’t want to spend all your time working when the baby is born. Being a parent is the absolute best thing ever! You will want to spend every moment with your little family, and you should. Don’t miss anything you don’t have to for at least the first year. You will never regret it. Babies go through so many amazing changes their first year. Time goes by too quickly and it’s something you can’t get back. Babies needs are very simple. They want to eat, sleep, and feel loved. You will be great parents. But do make time to rest. That is good for our overall health. You got this dad:)

I'm going to offer a different comment from a different perspective, Kalle. I play the Grass is Greener on the other side of RU-vid, also. I find all these great projects and ideas and I literally stress myself every day if I should be accomplishing more. I live in the US. When I watch your videos, however, you instantly settle me down and don't let myself get freaked out or overwhelmed. I think the reason is because of your soothing, non-judgemental style. It helps me go inside myself and feel good about the world. Here is this guy, living in Northern Sweden in a cabin with a partner and it feels absolutely beautiful. I realize you have struggles, but the way you go about life and relate to it is very soothing and helpful. I know weird, yes. But you offer hope. Hope for the rest of us to get out of this rat race(especially in the US) and be more free. Thank you for a great channel and I wish you and your family the best this coming 2024. I know you will do it.

The evolution of human society was to improve their way of life and bring their descendants to a friendlier world. As long as you were alone, you could live your dream! But now you transform the pristine landscape in the cabin into a place inhabited by people. This was always done. Later the child will have more needs, and your wife will constantly remind you of these... I wish you patience and to keep your dreams alive and the child inside of you...

If you find clay when building your well make a note, because you can use clay for earthen building, along with timber, straw and mud. You should be able to start making a outdoors pizza oven, or shed, or hut of sorts. Later on in years you could even do underfloor heating ❤

The comment about being productive really hit me. I've been ill for more than 8 years, and I think that this notion I have to always be productive is what keeps me ill. I should, and you should, be ok with doing nothing! Learn from the French! Being productive at the deptriment of ones health is counterproductive, and whose thanking you anyway?? NOONE!

I think that is a great idea to slow down. And I know it is not easy to do without feeling guilty. But think of it as your job to take care of you. And you first so you can be good and rested and helpful to your famil. And I learned that when the baby sleeps you should sleep too.
