Conventional cholesterol panels are generally useless and are lousy predictors of risk for heart disease.
However, there is a measure--HDL cholesterol--in conventional cholesterol panels that can actually provide insights into your metabolic health. It is also something you have enormous control over with NO prescription drugs, without the doctor, just simple strategies you introduce on your own.
It starts with NEVER limiting fat intake, then eradicating foods that disrupt metabolic responses, cause insulin resistance, fatty liver, and high triglycerides: wheat, grains, and sugars. We then correct common nutrient deficiencies that are prevalent in modern life such as vitamin D, iodine, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Over time, this approach facilitates reversal of inflammation and loss of visceral abdominal fat.
It may take 1-2 years, but you can see spectacular rises in HDL.
About Dr. Davis, Wheat Belly and Undoctored:
Dr. Davis practiced conventional cardiology for 25 years but became discouraged with the predatory and exploitative practices of modern healthcare. He now devotes his efforts to helping people regain magnificent health without doctors or hospitals with results that are SUPERIOR to that obtained through conventional healthcare. His Wheat Belly books have sole 4 million copies in 40 countries.
We draw from the health information of the world, collaborate, share experiences, collect data, and show how to apply new health tools to achieve levels of health that you may have thought unattainable. We do all this at a time when conventional healthcare costs have become crippling.
In addition to the Wheat Belly and Undoctored books, you'll find more at:

So glad I found this video, I was freaking out as my HDL dropped from 39 down to 23 in a 2month period where I am doing OMAD with a keto eating style and very low carbs only from green veggies and have lost 50lbs in 8weeks time. I hope to see a rebound with my HDL to go back above 40🤞😎👍

For WHAT to eat, you need to start with the above and keep eating what you know is healthy. And keep in mind, when you lower your carbs your appetite goes away and you are not hungry. I am a man 62 yrs old type2 diabetic for almost 20yrs. I used to take many meds for sugar, statin , ezitimib blood pressure aspirin and much more. I wasn't fit at all because of abdominal fats especially around my waist and breasts however every common blood factor was good and my cardiologist was believe i am doing well. It's good to know that I did angioplasty which was unsuccessful so that doctors could not put a stand in my heart and they also told me that other veins are partially clogged about 10yrs ago. Last year I changed my diet to almost low carb and lost all that nasty fat . I turned from 75kg to 63 kg during last year. My glucose is under control and a1 c is 6.3 While I cut off all the meds except met. My trig is 90, hdl is 54 and ldl is 160. Now I feel good but a little bit my energy is low. My blood pressure is under control as well. So what is your advice for me. Everybody is welcomed. Thanks.

Sadly your book is called "stupid as bread" in Germany. Dumm wie Brot. Safflower oil kept my HDL regularly around 28 and when I stopped using it my HDL went up to 60. I don't use any seed oil unless I go to a restaurant or buy occasionally a bag of chips. I try to keep a 80/20 rule. Some days I am keto, some carnivore, sometimes I eat a pizza then I eat sardines or steak. I did switched over to very low carb and it changed my metabolism to where I can run on a high fat diet and not use sugar as fuel. I even ran a marathon fat adapted. Only water. Eggs and bacon before running and butter coffee. I feel good and don't have blood sugar crashes anymore. I adapted and now I can eat occasionally cake and my body doesn't reverse to the old days. I never drank fruit juice or softdrinks or added sugar to drinks or aspartame. I was just carb dependent and a skinny one as well.

I lost 16 kg a year ago. I am following a low carb diet, I fast for 20 hours, my fasting blood sugar is around 85, my magnesium in blood is high (slightly over 2), my vitamin D is around 65, my triglycerides are between 35 and 50, my total cholesterols is below 170 (currently 166) always, my protein C reactive is below 1. I eat fatty fish, extra virgin olive oil, fatty fish, avocados, take niacin (nicotinic acid), pistachios, I am eating kefir to improve my gut health, etc. And yet, my HDL is rarely over 40 and has never been higher than 45. Here I was thinking I’m proud of those blood sugar numbers but I love how she only points out my cholesterol. Should I limit saturated fat? Is it a myth? I don’t want to take the statin.
@marlenegold280
@marlenegold280 2 года назад
They do this because they are taught this in medical school, the curriculum and influence on it is from the pharmaceutical companies pushing statins. Doctors prescribing habits are monitored, and if they don’t prescribe enough meds, they are given a warning by the higher ups to prescribe more. You are in charge of your care; they work for you. Statins significantly increase risk of full diabetes by ~ 48%. How on earth will that improve one’s health. Doctor’s are taught to fixate on LDL only. You’re doing well, keep it up. Statin ‘treatment’ is like fixing the blinking warning light on the dash but not the underlying problem… statins create new problems with all the side effects… very serious ones. Parkinson’s, ALS, Cataracts, muscle Rhabdomyolysis, Type 2. Diabetes, Dementia, mental fog, … The LDL-C doesn’t show particle size… and studies show that LDL that is too low worsens longevity. Continue with the diet that improved/lowered your Triglycerides, and add walking, some resistance training, even climbing stairs or lifting groceries, mowing /raking lawn, shovelling snow, activities that improve insulin sensitivity more, and build endurance, muscle, and strength. LDL level used to be higher in the 1960s. The people deciding ‘acceptable’ LDL-C lowering the number to artificially make more people supposedly ‘need’ a statin. You’d be the one stuck with side effects, not your doctor.

Doc, I'd like to clear something up for you. You raised your HDL from 27 to 94. That is not a 350% increase. It is a ~ 250% increase. Here's why. If you double 27, that's 54. You raised it 27 above 27, that is a 100% increase over the base figure. If you triple 27, that's 81, a 200% increase. So you more than tripled your HDL, but in percentage terms it was only a 250% increase. So you can state that you more than tripled your HDL, but you cannot correctly state that you raised your HDL by 350%.

"I raised my HDL by 350%." I understand exactly what you're saying. Your HDL rose from 27 to 94, and 94÷27≈3.5. But isn't there a better way to describe this? What if I told you that my HDL increased by 100%? Would you think that it had stayed the same? Or would you think that it had doubled?

You're right. Dr. Davis should have said either that "I raised my HDL to 350% of what it was" or "I raised my HDL by 250%". Either of these statements would have been correct. Of course even a mere 250% increase in HDL is really good! I'm a mathematician.

William Davis - Even if those of us who suffer from Kidney Disease give up all grains and wheat, we have nothing left to eat. We have to avoid all animal products too. And veggies also contain protein, phosphorous & potassium, which we must avoid as well. And you say to avoid all oils. So what's left for us to eat to prevent further Kidney Disease and prevent huger pains as oils & fats do? FYI: Be careful when telling people to consume large doses of Omega Fish oil. It may cause a Brain Leak. I should know, my naturopath "convinced" me to take 5,000mg per day against my better judgement. Within a week & a half, I ended up with a brain stroke.

No sleep, only up & down to pee! I only recently found out that there is a "huge" difference between regular white rice & "parboiled" rice. Parboiled rice doesn't spike the insulin as much. I pee less Thank God & can actually get at least 2 hrs sleep. I also recently found out that Omega 3 Fish Oil, in clinical studies, does help the Kidneys, only I'm afraid to take it again bcos I had a brain stroke (brain leak) bcos of the high dose I was taking. So I stick with Olive Oil, which will not have the same healing effect, but it's better than nothing I guess. On the upside, the Mayo Clinic has had success with taking our belly fat stem cell to regenerate the Kidneys. Sadly we have to wait man years before they go thru all of the regulation process.

Click the VIDEOS tab on their YT home page. To answer your question, foods that turn into sugar, will cause much peeing bcos your body is trying to get rid of it. I was so sleep deprived due to peeing every 15 min. for over a decade & no specialist could tell me why. When I gave up all grains, NOTE: it takes 14 days for offending foods to leave the body, see the Elimination Diet, that's when I finally was able to sleep 4hrs before getting up to pee. Huge difference. FYI: If you cheat once in that 14 day period, you have to start counting the 14 days from the beginning. And "no", eating meat or fats will not harm our kidney's. The diet this Dr. says made him unhealthy is exactly the diet that I am now on because my total cholesterol was 8 mmol/L (308 mg/dl). Following the 'bad diet' he describes my total cholesterol, after just 2 months, is now 5.4 mmol/L (208 mg/dl). The advice I followed was from Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn and the Forks over Knives cookbook. My HDL is slightly on the low side so I was hunting for some advice on how to bring that up a bit and came across this video. I guess one of the tell tale things to look out for is if there is scientific research that backs up these claims. It is no suprise then that Dr. Esselstyn has published a ton of original l research along with his colleagues. I found no articles backing up Dr. Davis' claims though I did come across an article on WebMd critiqueing his diet and it seems that there are elements of his diet that are really good and would lower LDLs and lead to weight loss, but for him to characterise the oil free vegan diet as unhealthy is very misleading information. Plant based diets do seem to get lots of people knocking them recently. I would just say this - there are cultures in the world where this is basically the standard diet and generations of those people have lead long healthy lives on it - not because it's a fad, but because they've always eaten that way. Clearly they would have died out had it been unhealthy....
