I would move the saved posts to the profile page, so when you make a public/collab collection, people can see it on there, and is more easily accessible, so basically just like likes on tiktok

100% agree with everything you suggested I have one more thing I would add to your list, this thing is not a big deal, but quite annoying for me. in reels action buttons, they don't have a little bit of shadow, they're just white outline buttons, and when a video has a white background, I couldn't see the buttons and the like/share amounts

i feel like there is so many more design issues with the app, and after the steam redesign (blew me away tbh) i was expecting more from you. Great thoughts anyways. just to add, in reel posts im often having problems seeing the content behind descriptions, promotions, music name, comments, vignette effect and sometimes people sharing stuff that has key frames at the bottom. pretty annoying

As someone who uses instagram the most out of any app currently, MAN I wish I had this! Your designs are so well thought out and researched, you can really tell that you've thought about every little detail and how it would affect the user experience! Super commendable, it really just leaves me wishing that this was a real instagram update video 😅

My biggest problem with Instagram is the hitboxes between a comment`s like button and the number of likes that comment has. Half the time when i go to like a comment, I am accidentally taken to a separate page (taking precious seconds to load) showing all the people who have liked the comment.

The design flaws get unproportionally out of hand when you consider the extremely glitchy interface, bad server response time and random network bugs that happen all the time. Instagram is really messy and buggy and this redesign would be a massive improvement, and one step closer to the Instagram we loved in 2015.

Actually I wasn’t expecting a designing video to be this entertaining! In fact, the problems suggested in this video are the reason why I’m using the app less than ever before, I don’t wanna be constantly bombarded with the trending stuff I see everyday; I wanna see the news, the ability to have control over my time, I wanna catch up with the new posts the people I care about share and then if I had time I’d like to visit the rending things. Sorta like YT, in the Recommended tab you’ll be able to catch up and other things are where they need to be in case you’re planning on watching more content.

9:05 Personal thought, I find it very obvious when I reply to others by swipe right, then I should swipe left to reply to myself. I think that swipe the message to the outside is instead very counter intuitive.

1:27 This is called A/B tests. In their case, this is an A/B/C/D/E/F.../Y/Z- test🙃 This isn't something wrong or bad. This helps to understand how to improve the interface and what is more convenient for the user Also, About different icons on Android and iOS: this is done because users already have a certain interaction pattern (they more easily recognize the icons they are used to). But actually, It's not that important. Just traditions. I don't think that identical icons would slow down the interaction much

9:34 You've forgotten about Android with this choice. A swipe gesture that's too close to the sides of the screen will count as a back command, and take you back to the DMs page. I think Instagram's current DM reply gestures are the best given the platform navigation rules.

Cool. Your work is amazing and I love your videos. This really shows how obsessing over marketing goals eventually leads to bad UX. As someone who's trying to get into UI/UX, I find this kind of videos really helpful when it comes to understanding how UX works. The internet is flooded with Figma tutorials, but videos showcasing real scenarios like this one are pretty rare. You're a great teacher and I have to thank you!

Nice design, really great job! However, for big products like this, most design choices are usually based on user metrics. So if a feature seems a bit off but it's also in apps like Instagram, it's likely because users preferred it in the A/B tests. It might not be the best approach, but it's a common way to measure what works.

Works for who? And how come we all still hate it? I think it's more about intent. Meta is not going for good user experience to begin with. Your experience on the app is not a priority and this is obvious. They are going for max interaction and ways to keep you on the app for as long as possible and by any means possible to maximise ad revenue.

@@yega3k works for ig for sure, because the good user experience you mentioned, is subjective, and I'd argue that there's lack of a clear way to measure it? Time spent, engagement and ad revenue are what you can measure and somewhat reflects user experience. You can argue that those metrics can lead to short-sighted decision making, that's valid. But I'm just giving an plausible explanation as to why a design that seems off could end up in an app like ig.

I've watched multiple videos from you about redesigning UI and what you do is great and what the companies attempt and fail horribly at is filling up our screens so there is no waste of space so we are hooked. Similar to how days ago RU-vid swapped the comment section with the suggested videos section and there was an online riot from the viewers over it.

Great video! It's crazy how much stuff you notice without being aware of it. like, i didn't think i'd have anything bad to say about Instagram but the more you talked the more i found myself agreeing and thinking "ugh yeah that's so annoying" and "yeah they should change that". I love your threads idea! I want that! I’ve been reluctant to go into threads because you have to rebuild your followingn and connections. Plus, when you get to threads, it’s just full of influencers and pages and less of the authentic content.

Incredible! I wish they would integrate all your ideas. Only difference I would make would be that when you swipe over to reels. The top and bottom bars become transparent (to give it a more immersive experience)

Personally, i dont have any isssues with the functions they add and how the UI looks, everything is there for a reason, and soon or later you end up using a bit of everything. Dang, that has to be the most optimized and intuitive layout for Instagram I could never imagine. Seriously, there are improvements in this video I never even would have thought of. I know it was a small part, but the RU-vid mobile app-style comments box under posts would be *way* more convenient than the mess they have right now.

I noticed a trend that you like to add more details to the minimalistic UI design of Instagram. However, i do think that sometimes it is better to try to maintain the simplicity in order to avoid information overload. But you also made some super good changes like changing the flow in the chats!

Big companies have a ton of bureaucracy. Just slightly changing the dimensions of a button could take *_weeks_* to be approved. Now imagine how long a complete redesign would take

I just with instagram was like this, let's not even talk about how you have to dig even more to find your liked videos, there is not a post history like for example youtube's video history, and the very forgettable first-save-then-go-to-stories-click-stickers-and-select-saved-posts-and-then-choose-which-one-you-want-to-share incident from last year, sooo glad they went back with that. I wasn't going to share any more posts on my stories. Congrats! You really fixed the app issues, and you should sell that design to meta, dead serious, we've got your back. Genious UX design, my brain was satisfied.
