The thing I don't like about Eddy is that you're unable to use the control/replay feature if you haven't purchased him. I understand not being able to use him in traditional practice mode, but he's such a knowledge check heavy character that I should atleast be able to know what strings or moves I'm losing to and what to do about them, instead of spending money on a character I'm never going to play. Alot of people say that he's easy to deal with once you learn the gimmicks/match up, but that feels next to impossible when you're unable to lab anything out due to him being a dlc character.

So besides studying moves, taking notes, and labbing the frame data I have several replay drills that have really been helping me. 1. I’ll start it at a point my opponent was doing a bunch of strings and I’ll practice blocking, ducking, or throw breaking each individual move 20 times. 2. I’ll go through and punish each move 20 times. 3. I’ll figure out if I could step or interrupt after each move and then practice those 20 times each. 4. I’ll figure out how I should have gotten up in each knockdown situation and practice those. 5. Any time I could have gotten a launch punish I figure out what combo (if any) I could have used to get them to the wall from that distance and practice that 20 times.

Tekken could legit be a university course with all the knowledge required

Hi @PhiDX, thanks for this video. It'd help out a lot players (like me) who don't want to purchase the character, but don't like losing to him either. Also, if you want to take control of your character at the beginning of the round, you can let it play, pause at any point beyond 2 second mark, and then mash back to get to the earliest point in the round you can take control on, in paused state. Then you can just press L3/R3 to take control.

Thanks for taking us through how you approach these learnings this helps. Now I just need them to allow you to lab vs dlc characters...

Honestly I just don't rematch eddys, win or lose on principle. If I can't lab him without buying him, its simply an unfair advantage and not worth my time. I expect I will be doing the same with upcoming lidia players.

Hey phi, a tip about eddy's relaxed mix up, even if he is plus 5, you can do 1 back dash to avoid the mix up since he needs a clean hit to knockdown with the hell sweep so its still not a true 50/50

Basically if one want to learn all (OK, most) matchups, than they have to do something similar for all characters. Thanks, that's a start.

How do you commit this to long term memory? I feel like it is super difficult to remember this sometimes in the heat of battle. Especially if I don't see Eddy for another 40 games or so.

Each round I won using a RA cos I wanted to get the match over and done with, the last round I also won with a RA then they plugged, it was a quick match

haven't finished the video, but don't wanna forget in case I forget, but after blocking the handstand +5 mid that leaves eddy in neg, you can dickjab and beat the mid/low mixup, trade with his fastest mid at 15f (which most eddies rarely press), and only get punished if he chooses to do nothing.

My problem with Eddy is the heat smash. I have a hard time sidestepping it and after blocking it, Eddy is +8 (I don't remember exactly) and have his free mixup on me.

I must try this kind of dissecting for myself after losing hard (maybe the next Lily, Devil Jin, or Dragunov). I don't mind labbing, but I have not so much time playing and would rather play against other player online and try to learn from that. Also I can not remember everything I lab. 😁

I was in my promotion match from 2nd yellow to the 3rd yellow rank and had to face an Eddy. I end up winning mostly because he did not abuse my lack of match up knowledge. I after that I had to buy eddy and jump into the lab 🔬 lol

when i fight eddy, i agree with knee. not all char can be aggresive. i use paul and loose alot to eddy. i use raven i win alot.

Phidx usually in Tekken stances can be stoped or interrupted by a low hitting mid or a counter hit. the command list for example attack button's 1,2,3 or 4 and the direction, one of the first moves counter hit properties.
