I Rent Everything I Own to Strangers: A Day in the Life

I've literally built my business around renting everything I own. It works out well because I try to own things that make money on their own, but then can be rented when I'm not using them. Renting out trucks, trailers, apartments, dumpsters, and equipment is a smart way to maximize the use of your assets and generate income.
All of these things are part of different industries, but I've managed to comingle then within one brand! Thus maximizes the profitable outcome.
But this is what a day looks like, trying to keep up with it all.

What would make me mad would be you brushing the dirt off the tractor in the street in front of the house when you could've did it in the yard and the customer didn't have to clean the street up after you left.

I enjoyed your video. You hustle for sure. I have a KX 040 as well and love it. I noticed that at 5:31 you ran a chain through the loop under the machine. I did this once until I read in the manual that this is not to be used as a tie down point. Its used for towing only. Maybe its not as re-enforced as the other tie down points?(blade and loop each side of the tracks) Keep up the good work!

Ive been thinking about trying small equipment rental in my area, there used to be a rental place but the guy retired and closed up. Theres only 1 equipment rental place (a hardware store) within a 30mile radius then you get to the bigger cities with united rentals . Im nervous about the competition out there, whats your thoughts on the big rental yards? Again people in this area have to drive along way to get to them and if they deliver they charge an insane amount! I already have a dump trailer i rent from time to time

Nice! I like the dumpster rental idea, but can't quite get me head around the equipment rental. How many repair / damage issues do you think are in the future? How do you write the policy to manage user neglect and intentional misuse? Fun Video and probably the best helper you can find! 👍😁
@rollingops
@rollingops 8 месяцев назад
It's actually a bit more profitable. People rent the machine and the over head I have from "dumping" and all the fuel and employee time isn't there. The start up cost is just higher. And the maintaince is more on a schedule. So I get hit with overhead in "batches" of maintenance or repair. But repairs are passed to on the customer usually. So it works out well. But definitely a different beast and stress.

Been watching your channel since the dumpster days. 😄 Just wanted to say: You should really consider at least 4 points of tie down when securing a load. Not only is it a dot rule but furthermore in the event of a collision 4 points will keep the equipment attached to the trailer. 3 points has the potential to shift and exceeding impact force of chains/binders. The worse case scenario being you becoming liable for damage or injury even if the accident wasnt your fault. (I say at least 4 points because a trackhoe techicailly needs 5. 4x to secure the machine & 1x to secure the boom)
@Top-NotchRentals
@Top-NotchRentals 9 месяцев назад
Always 4 points 👍
@MarksInTimePhotography
@MarksInTimePhotography 9 месяцев назад
Under 10k it's 3 point's on the carriage. One through the loop and each corner on the blade, then one on the boom. You are correct...the blade was chained wrong.
@rollingops
@rollingops 9 месяцев назад
Either way, sounds like I need to do better with the chains!
@evanBigPrice
@evanBigPrice 8 месяцев назад
@MarksInTimePhotography respectfully that is incorrect, you're stating general load rules. Although a trackhoe or as DOT refers to it, an articulating hydraulic shovel is a special load. Furthermore, indirect/transverse tie-downs (attached to the trailer, through/over load, and back to the trailer) should only be applied when using staps. An anchor (a single point fixed to the equipment) is always required when using chains and binders to be considered a tie down. Finally, as I briefly stated in my last comment, according to DOT, the hydraulic shovel should be lowered completely (wrap in and lowered) and then secured by chain or strap to prevent the load from unintentionally articulating. In conclusion, 4+ points. Always.

Hey Clayton, nice video, quick question, I understand the logistics, but why was the grapple left at the rental building when you must have been using the skid, so wouldn't you normally just load those up together and head back to the shop? Thanks, Brian
@rollingops
@rollingops 9 месяцев назад
Normally, yes! But oddly enough, at this job. Someone met me to pick the machine up for a rental. And they grabbed the machine, and we left the grapple there. Sounds odd, but my business can get very mobile. And this has happened several times. I even bring a cleaning kit with me, in case I need to clean a machine on the fly. Along with grease and some other odds and ends. Which is basically what happened here. The guy needed to leave town with the machine at 6am. I met him where it sat, had it cleaned and filed with fuel right before. He signed the contract, paid, and then I loaded his trailer! Other times, I'll have jobs where I only need the machine, and I'll leave attachments at other sites if we aren't quite done, but may be at a stand still. It comes with the territory of renting out equipment that we also use for our own jobs!

@Natural-Causes
@Natural-Causes 6 месяцев назад
@@rollingops here in NH when you rent, you don’t pay insurance on a machine unless the machine you rent is over 10,000lbs so the KX040 is the largest kubota. Renting a machine over 10,000lbs there is a small insurance fee in addition to the rental. What that covers is any damage over $1,000 you pay a $1,000 deductible. Even if the machine is totaled while renting you pay $1,000 deductible and the rest is covered by the rental company. I found all this out while searching for insurance to see if it made more sense to get rental insurance on my policy or use the rental companies insurance. Insurance companies by default write up all policies with $100,000 rental coverage. But because the insurance ultimately is only to cover. $1,000 deductible it makes no sense. I opted for the lowest rental coverage on my policy which is $50,000 minimum and it dropped the insurance from around $2,500 to around $1,200 per year. If I rent a 057 or 080 I will just pay the rental company insurance because it will be much cheaper. I know for a whole week rental the insurance cost added to the rental price is like $285 bucks.
