Man it's been like 3 weeks since I bought this thing and everything about it still feels right at home. I love the Deck, and the community around it, and Valve's relentless support. It's almost too good to believe it's real

The steam deck is what I wanted the game gear to be like back in the 90's.

Bro I’ve had mine for like two weeks and I have felt zero motivation to even sit at my desk and I have over 6k into my setup. I could absolutely see myself maining a steam deck. It’s so unbelievably good.

omg I did not realize scuf had a patent on back buttons and tried to sue steam for it. thats absolutely insane im so glad valve won an appeal

The fact you can reduce the refresh rate is fantastic. There are so many features which are great for the tech savvy user, and I really appreciate that in an age of dumbed down lowest common denominator tech products (which also have their important place in the market of course)

i been using it as my gaming PC and handheld Emulator for three months, nearly four months now and i have loved it every step of the way and the more steam updates SteamOS and desktop mode the more premium it feels... they keep improving the docked experience and i couldn't be happier... KDE plasma just makes me feel at home.

As a 34 old gamer since 1993 - agree with every word. Valve made dreams come true - it is an ultimate portable gaming pc/console with endless abilities. And main thing about it - steamdeck gives you new gaming experience even with games, that you forgot the’ve existed.

The quality of this video is insane. Hard to believe you only have 17k subscribers with such good content and editing. Also I absolutely love my Steam Deck. I fell off it for awhile after the honeymoon phase but just recently got back into it after I got the dock. My mind was blown when I saw I could play the original dead space at 4K 60 in docked mode. This thing is an insane value for the hardware and continues to surpass my expectations and surprise me every time I use it.

Great video. I bought the Steam Deck last year as a temporary fill in for my ancient PC at the time. I've since gotten a new PC but I still find myself using the Deck more often than not because it's so convenient.

idk why i still watch steamdeck reviews since ive had mine for like 5 months now lol. its the best gaming device ive ever owned. being able to hop from my pc to my SD then back to my pc all with the same save is absolutely amazing.

Thank you so much for getting into the haptic controls. So many sites and videos take those granted as if these things were common sense but I think they’re the secret weapon against something like the switch.

Well done, finally a review that puts things in context, with how it all started ten years ago, with SteamOS/Steam Controller/etc and how Valve put everything they've learned in practice. One thing that you left out though is Proton, which is one of the most important ingredient in the Steam Deck. Without it, the Deck would be just another (mini) Steam Machine with just a couple of games. The first Steam Machines were supposed to kickstart developers's interest in creating Linux games, and they did to some extent, but not nearly enough to fill the huge gap in the number of available games. Proton is filling that gap by just using the (majority of) existing Windows games, and by telling developers "OK, just develop for Windows as you normally would, we'll take care of the rest". Well, is a bit more complex than this, but that's basically it. Proton and related tools, the magic juice.

I could never give up my PC, but i want a Steam Deck so badly just for the emulation.

I just went ahead and ordered the middle option of the steam deck because of the 10% off sale. I am pretty damn excited for it to arrive. I have two close friends who have owned one for quite some time and they are both very happy with it. Great video!

I have a powerful Linux-based PC I use for work and gaming. I have an M1 MacBook that I begrudgingly have to use for work whenever I need to be portable. Now though, I have a Steam Deck that is capable of doing everything my PC's able to, but portably. Valve has really put out a versatile little package with the Steam Deck. Appreciate your review!

The accessory support and the community modifications and suppprt both hardware and software is what makes the Steam Deck so great.

I LOVED my Valve Steak Deck 512 LCD. Then I decided to bite the bullet and pickup the OLED and man, oh man, I'm fully sold on it.

My old computer is 9 years old. I didn't want to spend too much in a new computer, so I bought the SD instead. Such a great way to play the games! Even some games that gave me issues on windows are working fine on the SD.

I went with the 512gb model and I am loving the system. I haven't touched my gaming pc in a while lol. Great review keep up the great work.

This was very helpful. I've got a great PC gaming setup and haven't really needed portable gaming, but now maybe I'm reconsidering. After this video I went to Steam and after a bunch of clicking Steam analyzed my actual library and listed which were "verified" and which were "playable". I already have enough verified and playable games to keep me busy for a long time!

I'm going through a similar realisation that since getting the deck I struggle to find a reason to even bother turning my PC on. I'm currently playing through Elden Ring and The Witcher 3 and am always blown away by how well the deck holds up on these titles when I boot them up. It's arguably the best piece of gaming hardware I have purchased in recent history and can even give it credit for revitalising my love for gaming

I was on a fence about which handheld to buy, thought ill wait for ASUS ROG Ally even though I wanna mainly play indies on a handheld, and everything else is overpriced imo. But now I’m sure. This is a great review. Its nice to have the context of Valve's past misses to help drive home how much of a success the deck is. I've already resolved to buy it and am working extra shifts this month in order to feel comfortable buying it at the end of the month but now im stuck in a loop of just watching endless deck reviews lolol

Gaming on the steam deck reminds me of analog photography (whereas gaming on desktop would be digital photography). There's something about analog that is a breath of fresh air to the whole experience and makes me appreciate subtle things more. Same with the steam deck, I think you captured it beautifully when you said that the steam deck practically revitalized portions of your library that were gathering "digital dust". Games I lost interest in suddenly were at the forefront of my backlog because I simply wanted to see how they were handheld and then I stuck with them. I'm not too big on AAA titles or fast paced competitive games so it really has me questioning if I should keep my pc.

Honestly I love what I’m seeing from the steam deck and really want one. I will probably wait for their next gen version or a pro version if it ever comes out.

It's really one of the best gadgets I've ever had. I never liked the Switch, after BotW, I was just done with it. I would take it on trips and travel for work with not that much interest in using it. But with the Deck, I can play most of my PC games, then continue with cloud saves when I leave home. It really is a perfect compliment to gaming on PC when you're on the road a lot.

Great video! You're clearly knowledgeable, you did your research, and the review was well structured. Although you didn't really talk about the experience of actually using the Deck as a PC. You mostly talked about it from the perspective of a handheld, which is fine, but then why name the video like that? A follow-up video where you talk about the desktop mode and using it as a daily driver would be cool.

Very well done on the video. I agree! I just got a Steam Deck during the Steam Summer sale and love it! I too and rediscovering games I already had but never played along with some great new AAA titles. I also love how companies take past failures and turn them into successes. I really appreciated that short history on Valve and it really shows you the difference that good leadership at a company can make. I feel Nintendo did this from the Wii U to the Switch and Valve has done this from the Steam Machine and Steam Controller to the Steam Deck.

The joysticks & d-pad also work instead of the mouse trackpads in case you prefer to use that for whatever reason

I have a Steam Deck and a gaming PC with a 4090 and… I mainly play on the Steam Deck.

I wanted a cheap and powerful device like this so i bought one. and i got the dock for a better experience. and did some tinkering to get my basic windows programs and non-steam games to work

What a fantastic video review of a device! You start with companie's history and them dive in on the most important aspects and even speak of smaller details. All this and even making it interesting to watch! I have a SD for a while now and I agree with basically everything you said. You forgot to mention that the display is also touchable, although if you are using the device for a while, the screen gets a bit hot and touching it is not so pleasant. The first game I tried on my SD was Shadow of Mordor, it works really good, didn't notice any breaks or frame drops. The fans did work and made a little noise for a while, but it activates only when you're running a powerfull game for longer periods of time. That being said, I was unsure to whether choose the SD of Switch but Steam deals and PC game prices sold me to the SD. Best choice I could ever made!

Great Video! I’m in the same boat: Preordered a Deck in May ‘22 just before going into college to use alongside my MacBook. It is SOOOOOO much faster than my pc, and a million times more convenient. If I still had my computer (it was my stepdad’s) I honestly don’t know how much I’d use it.
