Well done brother. I been a mechanic for 19 years and I still get the pre start jitters when done cam belt. Only thing on them belts I don’t do is the starter motor removal and pin in the flywheel I just mark the crank pulley and it’s always worked for me.
I did mine at 200,000km its now at 230,000km and no problems. No garage wanted to do it. These are great cars to work on and its videos like yours that allow people to save money and do something productive. Well done. BTW at 200,000km the old belt looked just like the new one.
It's awesome to hear that your car is running smoothly at 230,000km after doing the work yourself. I'm glad the video could help and that you're enjoying working on your car. It's great to know the old belt held up so well too. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the support!
Well done another belt sorted . One of my pet hates working on cars is stud adhesive (Locktite) I know it serves a purpose but a tight bolt is a bloody site tighter to undo with that on it. Same as a torque setting for a bolt then turn it through whatever degrees (Maximum yield stretch bolts)much rather old fashioned torque it up job done lol.
Sound. Good on you. Be careful underneath when loosening the crankshaft bolt. Perhaps a quality impact tool would be a good thing to consider for safety's sake. I had a 2A Land rover sitting on me, and it stings a bit.!!
Thanks Ben for the support I really appreciate it... I want to move away from the salvage as its no money in it & going to try fixing some no runners in the new year hopefully be a little different 😬 😅 🤔 merry Christmas
Excellent instructive video, I’m considering a Freelander 2 in the spring (2022) and this is just the thing to reassure me if it needs a cam belt I can have a go myself, thanks Steve..
I'm glad I could help... ignore the people who say they are unreliable, they are one of the best cars I've ever driven. If you can do most of the maintenance yourself then you will save an absolute fortune 👌 😉
I'm surprised at how easy you made it look but my local garage won't touch it. I'd have thought any time served mechanic would take on the job with ease. Great video very informative.
Hi I'm new subscriber and I have watched many channels but you are the best Chanel I have seen you have shown perfect pictures of every part of changing the cam belt I cannot fault this video Sir just brilliant we not stuff 😜😜😜 Phil in stoke
Superb video with all the information needed. I have to change the timing belt on my 2015 Range Rover Evoque 2.2 SD4 ( the same engine as your Freelander 2) in the next couple of weeks. This has been really helpful
Excellent job, the video have helped so much to do my own timing belt replacement, I've worked hard but I got it. Thank you. So, by the way, my freelander have that plastic cover missing, that one to access the pulleys... Please, do you know that one part number?
Cheers for sharing this sir! Will do this next week, first time on this car, and this gives me confidence to get it done properly and fast! (Wáy faster than finding everything out myself) 🙏🏼 Cheers!
Take. My hat of to you chap. Brilliant. It's great for your confidence. Great video. Keep it going mate. See anymore audis to repair yet then?. Look forward to next video. Merry Christmas buddy.
Hi great informative video and Hats Off to you for taking on a job like that with a lot more Care and Diligence you would of got from being Ripped Off at a named dealer that leaves half the bolts out. I do all my own servicing as I trust no one to work on my cars as they are all Cowboys so big cudos to you. Keep up the good work. Mike, Northern Ireland 👍👏🍻
Thanks very much that's very kind of you buddy... I don't trust no one anymore I just do it myself & save money at the same time ... Happy New year to you and your family
Very commendable, well done👍. A truly inspiring video and it must have given you a huge amount of satisfaction knowing that you have saved loads of money. From start to finish how long did this take you (not including breaks and waiting for new bolts)?
Well done buddy. Great job done there. If you don't need that thousand you saved, I could put it to good use. Lol. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Roll on the next project.
my 2011 sd4 says 10 years or 105,000 miles for timing belt, the other thing that needs doing at the same time is all the transmission oils and haldex etc, the auto gearbox oil needs replacing but it requires the oil level to be measured at a certain temp so needs specialist equipment
You might have the lower horse power mines the 190bhp perhaps that's why? Yeah I won't be tackling the gearbox fluid or diff... I will leave that to the new owners but thanks for the advice 👍
Nice video, so after two years is all well with the timing belt etc, bit worried that the water pump gasket was cardboard, i thought they wre metal? hopefully it's not failed and leaked.
Brilliant. Got the same job myself on a 2010 SD4 soon, it gets hammered doing forestry work and pulling log trailers along forest tracks! Did you try your impact wrench on the pulley bolt at all?
@@RevivingSalvage almost ready for mine now - can I ask what are the instructions you are using? My kit came with none - are those available on line? Cheers!
Hi pal well done on tackling that. Just a little tip if you got the correct locking tools you dont need to tipex etc as there locked and going nowhere but understand its a bit of insurance. Also I would not have removed the starter i would have locked the cams then paint marked the crank sprocket to the engine casing installed the belt then turned the engine twice slowly to make sure ther is no interference align the crank reinsert your cam fuel pump lockers job done just watch on some cars there are no keyway in the sprockets but this saves you loads of time and as you did always turn the engine over slow twice to make sure there is no interference you can not go wrong.Oh and I have done hundreds if not thousands of belts being a mechanic and i still have a twitchy arse moment when turning that key lol good luck keep the vids coming love them.
Great job mate I'm in the process of finding someone to do the timing belt job on my Freelander 2 and no one will touch it you have made it so much easier than I thought it would be just about time and patience I guess with the locking tool even if it takes a while once they are set and locked in jobs a goodun going to tackle it myself now I think
Well done for a start for doing this job yourself but I'm at a loss as to how you saved over £1k. I just had this same job done on my freelander 2, cam belt and water pump changed at my local garage for just over £500 quid parts and labour. I avoid main dealer servicing like the plague.
Hi - have just done this on my 2012 Mondeo 2.2 with the same engine. Your video was invaluable- thanks so much. One key point to note with the Ford installation (Mondeo, SMax, Galaxy) is that the RH engine mount MUST be removed to provide access. Luckily we had a second trolley jack and were able to support the engine with that - with wood to protect the sump of course. Thanks again - Rob 👍
Great video. Your confidence is growing, you will be stripping gearboxes next. Going to do the same job next week so nice to get a taste of whats to come. You said your selling the Freelander, what will you do for delivery of salvage?
Well done butt. Fairplay that's was more intense than an episode of eastenders.you did make me giggle a few times. 'I got to be honest I'm shitting myself' 🤣..Great work though. Way above my limits.
Nice job but how you do it on a jaguar 2.2 diesel xf with the engine stait? It is almost inpossible to remove the startermoter. The crankshaft bolt is also difficult to undo and again torck to 70nm + 80° because these is no room for a angel gauge.
Someone been checking the belt maby even main dealer , changed plugs on our Mazda 2 even though service history said they been done Mazda full history same plugs that it left the projection line, do it yourself and you know it's been done , when I worked on people's cars Always put the old parts on front seat so they could see them
Hi Big Man. Another Epic Journey completed 👍. ps. It may of helped if you took off the coolant cap earlier, to release any vacuum, in the water system during coolant drain. This was a win win Cam belt change. Congratulations. See you in the next one. 👏👏
Turbo engines don't like dirty oil a big no no , you have done a timing belt so long as you got the right info and tools , there is not a lot in them , vw want £1300 to change a cam chain , kiss my ass I will do it my self when weather improves I will buy the tools I need
