The biggest problem I have with the crown store is how predatory it is to new players. People already commented how easy it is to get a vampire or werewolf bite for free in game if you just know where or think to ask. And there are plenty of things overpriced for how easy they are to get for free. I tell most people that are interested to avoid buying crowns and if they enjoy the game to just sub for all the DLC content and the craft bag since they give you $15 worth of crowns with each monthly sub. Then you can blow your crowns on whatever or save it up for something actually useful like a banker or merchant or DLC areas you want to have always available. I've played subscription based games before and I enjoy ESO enough to treat it like one cuz I find it nearly unplayable otherwise. I'm with you on removing key features to make premium being some bullshit.

That entire crown crate had the contents of like two chests in someone's basement in Oblivion or Morrowind.

Large houses are used as Guild Hubs mostly. But the majority of guilds I’ve visited use Psijic Mansion as their base. It’s large, pretty and it was given away for free during Summerset Season.

One other thing with houses in ESO is not only are they waaaaay too expensive, the furniture limit is stupidly small. You can have houses the size of a palace and you maybe have enough slots to furniture a room or two, the rest will stay empty. People been asking for higher limit, but response was "we don't play to do anything about it" ;x

I can't wait for the day that Bethesda decides that Daedric Quests are too good for base games, and hides the quests behind a paywall, and THEN the artifact behind another paywall. That's going to be SO much fun, I just know it.

Vampirism can be gotten for free in game if you can find a vampire to bite you. Usually if you hang around one of the vampire shrines you can get somebody who will offer a bite. Same thing for werewolves

I wanted to note that most of the smaller houses can be bought with gold in game. Almost everything that isn't a huge mansion fits in this cstegory.

I played ESO consistently for years. I personally found the subscription a pretty decent deal for myself who played so consistently. I didn't get it for the first few months and had no problems, but once I wanted to get into crafting, the subscription was a must. That said, I knew so many people who were spending probably hundreds of dollars a month, some of the houses are well over a hundred to begin with. The crown crates are straight up just predatory bullshit

One guy I sometimes play with bought like 100+ gamble boxes to get that bear with the moose horns mount. Paying MORE than what mickyD spent. He had only been playing for a couple of months. It was insane. The mount didn't even look good, nor did it fit the aesthetic of his character. He basically fronted the costs for all the megaservers across all platforms for like an hour. Moral of the story: Gambling sucks, whales are a thing.

This monetization style has killed so many games for me. It's not just the store and not just the constant advertising, it's also the game design that suffers.

When ESO releases its new Necrom chapter, you should do a video on Tamriel Rebuilt, specifically walking around the Necrom part of the map

From what I remember, 100 crowns is equal to $1 USD, so the big houses cost the equivalent of $50-100+... that's ridiculous

Few notes: the bag upgrades can be gotten with ingame gold, and the crown crate consumables are outclassed by crafted consumables. Most of the houses that are always in the crown store can be bought with gold. And for the housing, you can place your mounts and pets like furnishings, and even set them on paths to walk around your house. And you can make a dock with furnishings yourself down in the ocean. The vampirism and lycanthropy both can be given for free by other players. There no P2W parts to the crown store, it's either pay for convenience or cosmetic. Though you spending crowns on many of these things show how the crown store is predatory towards people who don't know better. If you want someone to help you settle into ESO, lemme know.

I'd honestly love to see you play through the stories as they are the only thing in eso that actually made me want to play it!

The house interiors seem oddly scaled, compared to the walls and stairs the character looks 5'4". Somewhat similar to how the main door in the Forbidden Zone in Fallout New Vegas: Old World Blues is scaled. Roughly twice the regular size.

When ESO first came out I spent the whole summer playing it, You could only become a werewolf by activating a monument that only activated once an hour to one person. Or by a player giving it to you but they could only do it once a week I think . I got the beast blood by my friend "DrSmokingBud" who I thought was an actual doctor, he wasn't lmao.

As for the pointless water area in that house, one thing you can do is craft platforms as furniture and create a dock. Put some dock related stuff out there, maybe an npc houseguest or two, and you got yourself a "lived in " area that was literally nothing before

Assistant banker and traders are not only for your house. You can summon them everywhere, except PvP content. Your group members are able to use them btw.

The bag upgrades don’t transfer to other characters lol. Plus the only other method to increase the bag space per character is to use crowns or to buy it with in game gold. The cost ramps up per upgrade And the 13,000 thieves Oasis thing is a house not a dlc. You could buy several major dlcs and still have left over crowns compared to the giant house purchase

The ESO Plus unlimited crafting bag is the only reason I play so rarely. It's so convenient that not having it is not fun, and I rarely get ESO Plus cause having it makes me feel forced to play to not waste money. It's too bad cause I like the game but I wanna play others games too.

EOS without paying for all the stuff is an inventory sorting simulator.

oh yeah, also! if you want to be a vampire or a werewolf its totally free, you just need to ask zone or guild chat and usually people would just happily give u a bite. also curing them only need like a small amount of gold at the local temple thats it lol, dont let the crown store fool you! its like a trap sometimes

I can't wait for TES6 where Bethesda will hopefully give us a subscription option to remove weight that doesn't give us an in game option like Skyrim where you can enchant armor to do that.

TESO is my MMO of choice and I am glad to see you cover it some more. Believe me even with my probably thousand or so hours sunk into the game I still just stick to buying Expansions/DLC since that's proper content. I have plenty of cosmetics, mounts, pets, etc, from just grinding out the game. So that works for me. I always ward other potential players away from spending any cash for that reason. But man, it's painful seeing ya spend dosh on things you *can* get through gameplay. Anyways

... I may have been a crown crate addict at one point. I actually enjoy playing ESO in small bursts and i use my crowns to decorate my digital home because I will never own a real home. Because my mortgage is spent in ESO homes.

I’m surprised once he wanted to just get rid of it he didn’t just buy the DLC stories. Would be awesome to see him play through some of the storylines. Also, if you are trying to get ESO and not sub, and just want expansions, get the high isle (or whatever expansion is out) collection set. Comes with all the previous expansions plus extra “collection” stuff if you’re into the mounts and stuff. Probably the best deal, I got the non collector one for 20$.

I recommend going through the zones in order of release because there are some characters that you meet in base game zones that appear around the newer dlcs and chapter zones.

I was curious about the housing in eso and you can actually buy most houses without spending crowns but you can also buy those houses with crowns.

I played a LOT of ESO a few years back, I remember basically none of it beyond grinding white gold tower and my guild's daily quest run. The clearest memory I have is hanging out in that big mansion player owned house with most of the people in our guild. They had a training dummy set up while people tweaked their build to max their damage.

I love ESO - sunk so much time before buying anything - and never felt needing to actually buy anything. Craft bag is the only thing that really feels predatory - but it can overcome by not hoarding and organizing. Only ever bought crowns for DLCs which are generally worth it.

my god the amount of editing just on the first mins of the vid, i alrdy know this video will be a treat. also fun fact, there are crown to gold exchange discord specificly made to trade gold for crowns, so basicly you give the person the gold and he gifts you the item or dlc or whatever from the crown store. it also comes with a witness and if any of em tries to run off the person gets refunded and the person who ran gets blacklisted from the discord. after each transaction the person gets a point to his profile to show how many succesful transactions he did to see if he's trustworthy.

There's a lot of the store that is paying for convenience. The assistants can be summoned anywhere and used by players in your group, between the merchant and banker you can practically remove the need for visiting towns.

The best thing to do is probably pay for a month of Eso plus and rush through all the dlc main story quests if you have the time but I would suggest just playing the free base story quests with the alliances and the coldharbour planemeld.

As someone who almost got to max level in ESO I've got to say I had a little chuckle when you bought vampirism knowing you can get it for free pretty easily.

You know its preditory when I have never even played this game and watching someone buy stuff on the shop gave me an itch to do it myself

You can do daily and weekly challenges to get a currency called endeavors that can be spent on stuff that are in crown crates but I mean obviously it’s terribly slow

just a little add up : The game also has "seals of endeavour" which you can earn by daily and weekly quests. With these seals you also can place all the things you can buy with the gems. It is pretty grindy though if you want the high rewards, but at least you can buy some things with it oncce in a while

for the sake of a balanced debate i want to make a couple counterpoints for people who may be new to eso or thinking about buying it. (for context yes im an eso console player so im probably biased but im not so biased that i cant see issues with the game) 1. yes the crown store allows you to buy a vampire and werewolf infection to play those respective classes, but you can EASILY get both of those infections for FREE in game by asking a player (like me) who is already a vampire or werewolf to bite you. similar thing with the meals and potions you get in the crown store, you can get an equivalent (or even better) of all of those made for you by another player and all it might cost you is some in game gold or the materials to make it if they are generous. 2. most (if not all) houses on the crown store have an option to buy them with in game gold if you dont have the real life money for them. (yes the biggest ones will cost millions of gold and yes that will take you quite a while of game time to earn, but all it requires of you is time spent vs real life money spent, its up to you to decide which is more valuable to you.) . i will however agree that in game houses sold on the crown store are INCREDIBLY overpriced and there is no excuse for that. it shouldnt cost me 90 bucks or euros to buy a virtual in game house when it is one of the biggest ones. (secondary side point, the game gives you multiple free houses in game just for doing certain quests and dungeons and eso has a history of doing celebration events where they award the players with free massive houses. ive earned like 3 since 2015 and it cost me nothing) 3. nothing in the crown store gives you an inherent advantage over another player. all pets you buy in the store are non combat pets that follow you around and just look cool. mounts from the crown store are just for cool visuals, every mount in game can be upgraded with the exact same stats and speeds so there is no advantage to owning a prettier one over a free in game one. costumes are just costumes, emotes are just emotes, armor styles (motifs) are just different ways to customize the look of your gear not your stats on it and dyes just change the colors of your costumes and gear (and EVERY dye you can purchase in the crown store can be earned in game through an achievement it is tied to like doing quests or killing specific bosses etc). crown store soul gems are worthless because every boss you defeat in game drops a free soul gem you can use to revive yourself or others. (you also get empty soul gems all over the place and you just have to kill enemies to fill them and bam you've got a soul gem. ) closing thoughts: yes i personally think eso is worth it to play but thats just me. the game has some amazing places to see, awesome characters to meet, epic and emotionally moving stories to play through, and some cool people to meet and befriend. however i agree that the crown store items are heavily overpriced in most cases, and the game does a HORRIBLE job of explaining to new players that 75% of the items in the crown store can be acquired through in game means that dont cost real life money (they need to be more transparent about that no question). however i would argue that the only main things you get from buying the monthly subscription that you cannot make up for in other ways is the crafting bag which takes all of your crafting materials out of your inventory and places them in a secondary bag with unlimited space that doesnt count against your personal carry limit. however there is an easy way around that, just dont loot or pick up crafting materials and you wont have to worry about that aspect of it. and the last point i want to make is that even if you just buy the base game and NO expansions, you are looking at hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay in just that version alone without having to spend an extra cent. i agree that the crown store can be drastically overpriced and it definitely plays on our sense of FOMO, however i hear complaints about the system being predatory and manipulative all the time, but no one ever comes up with an alterative monetization solution that they think would work better and be "acceptable". (and yes its a live service game so zenimax needs to make money SOMEHOW and at a CONSISTENT rate in order to fund its further support, so saying shit should be free is not an answer to the problem).

ESO I only spend money on what I want outside of monthly. If you spend it just to see if its worth it, its a bad time all around. I enjoy the game, but any helpful items in the cash shop are traps (You get em for free all the time), and the motifs, and houses, most of them you can get in game. PS: You can earn crown crate stuff by doing daily endeavors. And furniture, 99% of it is in game. Another trap for newbies. Inventory capacity? It costs almost nothing in gold to do so. Just a waste of crowns and another trap.

The only reason I buy any crown crates is for the emotes, it may be because I use them for various vids but other than that I steer clear of them. I will say you're right the crafting bag should be included in the game to make it less of a hassle to play. A lot of the base houses and stuff that can be bought in the crown store can be gotten or be done in the game. The game can be a lot of fun with the various stories in the zones that's what I like getting into. Fun video! 😄

Honestly in my own opinion the best thing you can buy is the helper followers, yeah they do everything that's already free in game but I like being able to stop mid-whatever and sell, decon, fence, and then put the rest in my bank. There's a few other things less gratifying that I bought too but I believe the followers really helped enhance my experience, I also got them all over a span of like 2 years so I don't feel like I dumped to much to fast and have got their worth out of it.

Just like FO76, have to pay to have scrapbox to store unlimited craft components. Yes, playing without it is possible, but it's a chore, especially late game when you have to craft ammo & other things

The reason why I stopped playing eso, I mean it was fun in the beginning, but the fact that you need to buy more inventory because the lack of space... I earned a lot of gold to buy space but the prices went high rock every time it took too long to grind just for a little inventory space, then the game was boring for me and all those ingame purchases just made me quit this game entirely

I love ESO and 76. I was paying for subscriptions back a while ago but without the extra storage space it takes so long to get anything done because after every point in a quest you have to go back and craft/sell/upgrade stuff just so you can continue. It tries to force you to pay money to get anything done. Out of all modern MMO's that are popular FFXIV is the most cost friendly from what Ive seen. I just love the lore of ESO and its a beautiful game, just wish they would focus more on cosmetics for cash.

Oh I most DEFINITELY want to see you do the campaign in Imperial City. That should make for an amazing episode.
