I try to live a life of a Catholic of the middle ages, meaning: back then, one could live their Catholic lives without even really knowing who the Pope was. It made no direct impact in their lives; they would go to Church, pay their alms, do their charity work, and pray a lot to God. And boy, in those days, did they have heretic Popes! I do the same. The other day I finished reading Saint Theresa d'Avila's book, the Interior Castle, my memory could have betrayed me, but I don't recall her quoting her contemporary Pope. Saints did just that: they left history take good care of any Pope's reputation. If what a certain Pope said or did anything heretical, history would take good care of that. Nowadays, we are way too much worried in being up-to-date with every gibberish that freshly came out of the Pope's mouth. It does saddens my heart, though, whenever I hear him saying unthoughtful things, while he should be defending Jesus's Church from the heresies. However, I try my best, in my humanly misery, to look at the Cross and carry on with my life, begging God's mercy. regards from Brazil

I was one of those Catholic converts (of 10 years) who left the Church, shortly after Francis came back, thinking the whole church had fallen to relativism. But there was nowhere else to go. I couldn’t go back to Evangelicalism. Orthodoxy didn’t seem quite right. So, I dove into progressive Christianity because it seemed relativism was the way things were going. It was awful. So much despair. At the end of that 4 years long dark night of the soul, I went to Easter Mass and, like a prodigal daughter, realized I was home. It is Jesus in the Eucharist and the magisterial teachings of the Church that I need to cling to, through good and bad priests, bishops, cardinals AND Popes. People come and go. People let you down. God never does. I thank God and the many friends who prayed me back. Pope Francis is a scandal, and I’m sure he’s preventing people from becoming Catholic and I know he’s a reason many leave, but he won’t be Pope forever. So, if you’re Catholic, stay put, keep calm and pray on. 🙏🏻

@@Xymage what is and isn’t considered heresy? You mean changing the message of the gospel right? Doesn’t Catholicism change the message of the gospel (salvation by grace alone, from the sacrifice on the cross by Christ)? Is it heresy when a Protestant pushes back on new ideas? It’s okay when the new regime decides new dogma/rituals though right? Do you think every previous pope would have approved every sacrament over the last two thousand years? All seven sacraments didn’t come into existence all at once you know. Curious on some Catholic responses to these inquiries.

@@John3_16_ the texts of the 4 Gospels do not preach salvation by faith alone! Full stop doesn’t mention it. “Unless you did these things for the least of my brethren you did not do them for me. Depart into eternal fire.” Matt 25 referencing works of poverty relief. Second “Faith without works is dead, you try and show me your faith apart from your works and I by my works will show you my faith” Letter of James 1. Even Paul didn’t really teach it. “Shall we go on sinning then that Grace may abound all the more? By no means!”. So scripture clearly testifies that faith which doesn’t result in the works of over turning sin in our lives, the work of loving the poor, the work of prayer, developing a deeper relationship with God, and in summary the work of cooperating with Gods free gift of grace and forgiveness so that it makes a real incarnate difference in our lives, that faith isn’t even faith at all. The pachamama incident was just traditionalists showing their usual disgust towards anything to do with women and pregnancy. It's amazing to me how Catholic men can have so many opinions on what women should do when they are pregnant but are so disgusted when they have to look at an image of a pregnant woman that they get enraged and call it idolatry. The Catholic church is a patriarchal institution that hates women and abuses children while proclaiming to love both. I'm glad I stopped engaging with it years ago.

If we sin, even after Baptism by not offering faith and good works we commit injustice. Justice must be fully satisfied for our personal sins before entering heaven, even if we are sorry for our sins. If a soul dies without justice satisfied, the soul goes to purgatory for a purification (even a painful purification), provided that the soul is already sorry for sin (and thus no longer guilty in God's eyes). @@judyswiderski2682 HI Judy. Have a look at this section of the Catholic Catechism, which explains merit. It may be interesting for you: "III. MERIT You are glorified in the assembly of your Holy Ones, for in crowning their merits you are crowning your own gifts.5 2006 The term "merit" refers in general to the recompense owed by a community or a society for the action of one of its members, experienced either as beneficial or harmful, deserving reward or punishment. Merit is relative to the virtue of justice, in conformity with the principle of equality which governs it. 2007 With regard to God, there is no strict right to any merit on the part of man. Between God and us there is an immeasurable inequality, for we have received everything from him, our Creator. 2008 The merit of man before God in the Christian life arises from the fact that God has freely chosen to associate man with the work of his grace. The fatherly action of God is first on his own initiative, and then follows man's free acting through his collaboration, so that the merit of good works is to be attributed in the first place to the grace of God, then to the faithful. Man's merit, moreover, itself is due to God, for his good actions proceed in Christ, from the predispositions and assistance given by the Holy Spirit. 2009 Filial adoption, in making us partakers by grace in the divine nature, can bestow true merit on us as a result of God's gratuitous justice. This is our right by grace, the full right of love, making us "co-heirs" with Christ and worthy of obtaining "the promised inheritance of eternal life."60 The merits of our good works are gifts of the divine goodness.61 "Grace has gone before us; now we are given what is due. . . . Our merits are God's gifts."62 2010 Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification, at the beginning of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life. Even temporal goods like health and friendship can be merited in accordance with God's wisdom. These graces and goods are the object of Christian prayer. Prayer attends to the grace we need for meritorious actions."

I just let myself *KNOW* that PF is a BadPope. And Vigano is a good Shepard who stays faithful to the AUTHENTIC GOSPEL. I'm talking about "your" 'cause we are not speaking about a random father but our spiritual pather (who is the Pope), so as we talk about our pope, talking about a biological father is about our father, and putin an example to someone, I talk about his father, not about mine's (who is not related with the one I'm talking to).

I cannot relate to your hypothetical example of a physically abusive father; however, since I initiated this track by sharing a personal experience, I might as well press on… As a child, I vividly remember the days when my mother would leave town to work in another country. Friend, it felt like a punch in the gut, a feeling that lasted days, and weeks until she would come back a few months later. I was old enough to understand why my mother had to leave. In reality, my absent father was emotionally punching my mother and me, a kind of an abusive behavior for not acting as a father (sin of omission). By no means I would deny my father’s mistakes, yet somehow I honored him despite of…… Today, as an adult, I understand I was able to endure the difficult times through God’s Grace (my father is present in my life and we enjoy a beautiful father-son relationship). Today, as an adult, I understand Pope Francis is not the perfect spiritual father; may God continue pouring His Grace to honor the Vicar of Christ now in difficult times and forever, Amen.

I grew up in the time of Vatican II here in the US. I was in the convent at the time and we got finely filtered and in small bliss! Then we had all the changes that seemed to not be a little breeze but a real dumping of real holy things, like too much water in the Chalice. It certainly put a lot of people in a bad way. The idea of just keeping the real things and not pay attention to the new parts, and find where you get where you can stay on a good path or I should say the windy, overgrown path. At the time it way very difficult to find a place that had decided to go slowly. It still gives me a jolt have to search for the tabernacle. It just does not seem that you are in His presence.

As an Orthodox Christian myself, we are certainly having our own issues, but the “regular guy Christian” is in the same arena. We’re mutually going through a great and profound time right now. But, I personally have seen many on both sides (especially in the rural areas), a comradeship that I’ve never seen before. We’re in this together, even if we are currently apart. I’ve been thinking that for years ! The two passages go together. And they tell us far more about Jesus than about Peter. That Jesus is the Father’s Messiah, means He is the Anointed King of Israel, So the news that He “must” - in God’s purposes - be crucified, would have extremely shocking to the disciples. Hence St. Peter’s shocked denial of Jesus’ intention, and the extreme severity of Jesus’ rebuke - because “doing the Will of [His] Father in Heaven”, *regardless of what that might require of Him* , is what “motivated” Jesus. The use of the word “must” in a description of what Jesus says, is an indication that God’s irresistible Purpose is being described. IOW, Peter is - however unintentionally - setting himself against God’s Will for Jesus and Israel, and Jesus rebukes this opposition as coming, ultimately, not from Peter, but from satan.

@@rhonawilson6428 Actually it says nothing of the kind. "While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood outside, asking to speak to him." The word "brother" in the Bible can refer to a male relative, such as an uncle or a cousin. (The same goes for its female equivalent, "sister.") For example, in Genesis 13:8, Abraham and Lot are identified as brothers, even though we know from 11:31 that Lot is Abraham's nephew. Likewise Jacob is referred to as the brother of Laban in 29:15. Although the Gospels were written in Greek, the Evangelists still wrote from a Semitic perspective. Jesus's brethren are never identified as sons of Mary. In fact, if you compare Mark 6:3 with Mark 15:40 and John 19:25, you would see that James and Joses are his cousins, the sons of Mary's "sister," Mary wife of Clopas. Furthermore, in John 19:27, Jesus entrusted his mother to the care of the Apostle John. This would have be highly scandalous if she had other sons to care for her.

@@rhonawilson6428 1. What is your evidence for claiming that Mary was a sinner? The Bible never addresses her as such. "Blessed among women," a 2nd Ark of the Covenant, a 2nd Eve.. never does it imply she's a sinner. 2. How does being a sinner prevent you from praying for anyone? The Bible commands to pray for each other, which would be impossible if sinners cannot us to pray for one another. Instead of getting all your theology from RU-vid videos, I recommend you read the Church Fathers. That's what led me to embrace Mary and subsequently Catholicism.
