I Think We Need Another Horse! 

You’re projecting your own desires onto your daughter. You want her to be into horses but she has said she does not want a horse. You already have the answer.

Gabby doesn't need another horse if her heart is no longer into showing. There's no outgrowing a horse if you're just doing trail rides, and storm is more than capable of doing that. I'm starting to feel there's a small craving for the "honeymoon" feeling when new horses/animals come in, please don't push Gabby into something she doesn't want / is ready for. If she's okay with Storm let her be.

Absolute they need a 7th horse! And much more poultry and donkys and more goats and pigs and a peacock and one ore two cows and perhaps a zebra and a giraffe? What is with rabbits or an ape? They are sooo cute. I thin most, they need is help.

I feel like Gabby doesn't need a new horse if she would only do trails. Storm is very much capable of doing them as it's much different than riding in a ring collected and jumping. Horses build muscle and stamina very fast on trails, so Storm would benefit very much from trails and Gabby still could have fun with her horse whom she loves.

it's a bit radical but maybe let the girls enjoy their horses, Gabby was already unhappy at being pushed into higher level shows and just wants storm. While I am sure they will ride each others horses all this "Gabby will be great on Sophies horse, that will be really good" can't be nice for Sophie to hear

No new horse for Gabby storm is perfect for trail riding. And besides what would happen with a new horse when Gabby goes back to school.

I doubt you will read this. But it seems like you don’t want to enjoy the animals you already have. You are always looking for something new or a baby animal. I encourage you to spend more time with every animal so you realize you don’t need any more.

You dont ride enough to get another horse ride those that you have as they need exercise

My opinion is that theres no reason storm wont work out temporarily for trails this summer. I personally think storm would enjoy being a trail horse if youbdk it more consistently. I know hes not the spunky kind of horse that gabby likes, but for trails 75% of the time usually is relaxed. (Or at least thats my experience) and if gabby and sophie wanted they might be able to switch horses during the ride so each of them can have fun. In my case our horses are trained to pick us up from anything we ask, so as long as we can find a rock or log we can easily get back up. Its easy to train. The summer is likely going to fly by and the time youd spend trying to find gabby a new horse, even just a lease will probably take too long. Im sure she can ride new horses like she usually does with brandan.

Gabby has not outgrown storm. If she said she dont want another horse then why buy or lease her one. Listen to your daughter. She can ride storm on trails. I vote dont get her one if she doesn't want one.

Honestly there is no sense in leasing a horse for sophie and then just letting your other daughter take the lead. Sophie seems to be handling lady well so let them be. Is your horse storm not suitable for trail rides, all the clips ive seen, he seems like he would do fine?

Please don’t encourage Gabby to ‘help’ Sophie with Lady.. let Sophie have HER horse.. if SOPHIE asks for Gabby to ride her, that’s one thing, but let Sophie be the one to build her bond and train her like she wants her.. if you want Gabby to have another horse to ride, get her a horse.. but PLEASE don’t push Gabby into the mix with Sophie and Lady.

Gabby is good with Storm. She should have the space to choose for herself now. I know you'd like to see her on another horse and doing more showing but if her heart isn't in it then you need to respect her decision. She has Storm, she loves him and he loves her. They need their time together.

The pigs need a mud pit, even if it's a small one. You could fence a small area by the door and make it into a mini pit? Anything is better than nothing. :"D

I seem to remember Storm happy as can be cantering, jumping and hand galloping around when you guys went horse camping years ago with Storm and Stella. So he is perfect for trails and just goofing around at home!

Wouldnt Storm be ok for Gabby to ride on trails?

I think Gabby should take Storm, he is level headed and might get into the trail rides. He doesn't like going fast but Gabby doesn't seem to mind, she loves him deeply. See how it goes with him. Storm might like the change of direction. Watch Free Spirit Equestrian, she has some great methods to work with horses , no whips, just great horse womanship, let Gabby advance in that way. It all depends what you choose to perceive as 'Gabby advancing' because its not just about getting better at jumping and showing. That is only one aspect of connecting with a horse and getting the best from them.

I don’t think another horse is a good idea. Gabby has lost interest and if she wants to keep Storm then just use him for trail riding.

Not wanting to upset anyone but don’t you think you should just let Sophie enjoy Lady herself? You got her for Sophie to learn and enjoy. Whilst it’s good the girls are happy to share their horses, horses don’t need to be galloped and whatever. If Gabby wants a horse that’s not Storm she’d let you know I’m sure. Storm is a good horse for her to just enjoy if she’s still grieving for Chino. It takes time to get over these things! I lost my boy in 2022 and I still am not over my loss. I’m lucky I’ve had my mare through that process but sometimes getting another horse isn’t the best course of action. And yes Storm may not “gallop and jump.” But surely a trot and a gentle canter on a trial ride is just as nice with a horse you love. Gabby will say what she wants ❤

If you do get another horse I would get one that the whole family can ride like one even Sam could ride if he wanted to but also for when your family comes down and they want to ride

I suspect that Gabby may still be grieving & she may be reluctant to really bond with another horse if that is where she is emotionally. It can take a lot of time to go through a grief process. If I remember correctly Gabby didn't want Chino (or any other horse) when it became obvious that Storm was not what she needed to advance. I think about how difficult it is for so many of us when we lose our fur baby. Most people take quite a while to be ready for their next one. Loss is painful. The fear of that pain can interfere with our desire to love a "next" one. I know that you will continue to support Gabby as she goes through her journey to whatever is next. My prayer for Gabby is that she will grow through this process & come to understand that giving our love nurtures us & blesses the being we love. Life is a repeating cycle of love & loss. For the time being maybe Storm is her answer.

Well maybe you can buy not really horse for Gabby, but some not too young family trail ride horse who maybe even you Laura can ride after Penny will be too old.

Storm would still be a good horse for trails. He was originally a western pleasure horse so making him into a jumper or a hunter goes against all his past training. He is a safe horse for a beginner to ride if you have people coming to the farm that want to ride. Gabby can also take Penny on trail rides since that is what she loves to do. If gabby wants a performance horse then it should be up to her. She has college ahead and seems like showing and jumping are no longer high on her list. Maybe lease a horse for the summer rather than buy one.

you should find a lease horse for gabby over the summer, so then she has the opportunity to love on another horse with the option to give back at the end of the summer so she doesn't feel the pressure when she goes back to school, as it is totally understandable as im currently still in the school and just finished up my lease as I'm in year 11 and it was just to hard.

Maybe Brandaan has a horse to lease for the Summer.

Ok I’ve been reading the comments and I agree with everyone in the comments and I also agree with day by day Gabby has said she doesn’t want another horse and she loves storm and he would be a good trail horse. But, Laura does have a good point in previous videos gabby liked to go fast and be in the front and storm isn’t the best horse to lead as we saw in the previous riding video Laura and penny was rushing them out of the way and Sophie wants to canter and gallop threw fields now. With that being said gabby is most likely gonna get left behind. I also feel like it wouldn’t be a wise purchase to buy a horse mainly for just a few months until school is back in session. I’m not saying she’s gonna neglect it but you did tell us her main focus is on school. If you where to get her a horse I wouldn’t recommend buying or leasing maybe a share horse with Brandon or Fiona if they have any that way it would still be their horse and in their name but that is just a suggestion

As long as Gabby is happy doing what she's doing that's what matters my favorite thing to do is trail riding just like Sophie I think that Gabby should just ride storm on the trails

I think it would be awesome if use got a new horse that gabby could ride and give a really good foundation over the summer and then it can be family horse that Laura Sophie and gabby could ride, or maybe gabby falls in love and decides she wants him haha

Because Gabby only doesn’t want to show and ride as much since Chino passed away leads me to think that she doesn’t just want a break from riding but instead she is stealing healing from the grief and doesn’t know how else to express it…..she is pushing it away because that’s what she did with Chino and it hurts to remember that feeling…..everyone deals with grief differently…..which is why I vote a YES because i do think a new horse will help heal as well as getting back into showing will give her strength and confidence knowing that she can move forward and still honor Chino at the same time

You already know i vote for a project horse for her to bring on and have fun with but sandys right mabie you should lease for the summer or get one that is young enough and laura proof enough to replace penny and storm when they retire ❤
