The one issue that I’ve had with trying to find friends is either A) they SAY they’re interested but when time comes they back out, and B) trying to find somebody who won’t bail. It’s a tough thing to do, trying to open a shop and finding those people you can trust

Don't worry man, a full reset at 29 years old is so good. You learned a lot in a short period of your life, and now you know your boundaries going forward. Get back to where you're from, and settle down for a bit. Set yourself up with a good group of partners/friends and take on new work that excites you, and that you can balance with your personal life, which is most important. You'll get through this man.

Man, I rarely ever comment on YT but I feel that this is one of those times when I really have to. It was late 2014 when I discovered some YT Channel from a guy with an RB swapped 240sx, this guy would get crazy stuff done on his garage and that really inspired me to get myself my first project car, with a RB20 in mind as one of my goals. Fast forward to 2022, I got myself a Laurel C35 with an RB20 NEO that wasn't even running for around $1100, by then end of that same year it was back in the streets, it barely run mind you. It's been a 8 years trip to get where I am, but what made me want to be here in the first place was you. I know things will be hard as shit for you know, but I'm sure as heck you'll get through this and come back stronger than ever.

I don't know if you're going to read this comment but it's going to be long. 10 years ago I was homeless. Sleeping under bridges, in my car, wherever. Then one day I figured out that the mother of my youngest son I couldn't take care of, was going to give him up for adoption because she didn't want to be a mom anymore. So I did The smartest thing I've ever done, exactly what you're doing. I swallowed my pride, realized the road ahead was going to be hard but I needed to make a change, and I moved back in with my parents and became a single dad. 4 years after that I was a college graduate with presidential honors. 3 years after that I had been working a career job making good money. A year after that I got my own apartment, had that for 2 years, a bunch of cars, you know how it goes. All of a sudden one day I realized I was absolutely miserable and I wanted to put a gun in my mouth. Like an inner voice was screaming at me to do it every second of every day because I hated my life. So you know what I did? I went on a government auction site and bought an old paratransit bus. I gutted the inside of it and turned it into an apartment. Moved my kiddo and I into it, quit my career job I hated, making good money, and started from scratch. Now I have inner peace. Money everyday and don't have to struggle super hard like I did, skills I can make money with anywhere, and now I am a residential and commercial painter, the easiest job I've ever done, and I make more money. And my bills are about 1/5 of what they used to be. Now of course sometimes my inner voice, and other people make me feel less because I live in a bus, But I'm happy. My kid is happy and healthy and has everything he needs and wants. As do I. My point is, taking a step back, taking a step down, is the hardest thing you can ever do when you've worked hard to get to where you're at. But at the same time, it can be the thing that shows you the path with the easier steps, that take you to a place you don't have to regret. Keep your chin up, do what you need to do to be happy above all. Don't do What you think you're going to get successful or Rich from if you hate it. Because that inner peace is the most valuable thing you can ever work towards.

The amount of multiple all nighters I pulled, often going 2-3 days in a row without sleep, to getting an hour or 2 of sleep in my car outside my shop. I was absolutely miserable. Closing down was the best decision I ever made. Maybe I'll try again sometime in the future. As for now, I'm currently working from home again, trying to rebuild. Good luck and trust your gut.

Hey Kalvin Business is hard, sometimes you just have to downsize, reevaluate your methods and business practices. Work out where you were wasting time, money and overheads. I failed many times before I hit on a business that became successful. You have the right attitude when you see the ship sinking you look to change. That is a good thing buddy. Not a bad thing. You learnt a lot, take what you learned and better it. My advice to you mate would be go to a local night college and learn the basics of running a business. Once you have your head round it you'll understand more where you went wrong or where you could improve business wise. You have the right attitude, you saw a sinking ship and you got out. That's ok. Go to where you feel comfortable, have support around you. Recover, reevaluate and move fwd dude. Good luck into the future I'm sure you will land on your feet. As for transporting maybe hit up rob from super speeders he might help you out with moving your cars. He has multi loaders etc. Tends to help out tubers who need it. Good luck buddy. You didn't fail you just learned.

You're not alone bro. I'm 29 myself. I feel the same exact way after taking over my dad's used car dealerahip when he passed in 2019. Been working with him since 2012. At first it was peachy, but since summer/fall 2021 I've just lost more interest as people have stopped paying me and car prices were way too high. Nothing is floor planned and I'm buy here pay here. So everything I buy is with my money and customers have to pay their notes so my bills get paid and I get paid. I've paid myself like 3 times this year. Time to go back to the drawing board. May have to restructure, Unfortunately most people that go to bhph dealers aren’t the most responsible financially so not paying is common and repos are high. Have you looked into focusing on cash cars? And finding some finance companies like credit acceptance that way they hold the note you get paid and don’t have to worry about chasing customers? I deal strictly cash and I deal with credit acceptance, Bhph you can make good money but I don’t wanna be the guy that has to chase down the customers that don’t pay. And I’m sorry for your loss! But think what would he want you to do in this situation? Keep pushing!!

@@DMoney505 in a season right now where I'm sending out repos to the repo man. I have done cash only stuff the problem is I'm in the city, and people can't always afford a $5-10k car straight up. That's been exaggerated even moreso since covid. On top of that it's hard for me to buy cars at a price point that would allow me to do that. I have a couple but stuff that I need on the lot typically costs $4k+

I honestly think this is the last thing he needs. Kalvin is an incredibly talented guy. I have tremendous respect for him. Calvin is going through a down season. Les Brown says in those down moments that's where the growth takes place that's where the work is. They are the hardest times of our life but it's where we grow the most. To be rescued when we've been knocked down is a disservice. Let him get back up on his own and keep fighting. He knows how to work on cars He knows how to paint and restore. Now he needs to dig in and learn how to run a business. Once he does that he will be on his way to the next season of life. However that said that doesn't mean life is always going to be happy it doesn't even mean you're going to be happy 80% of the time it doesn't mean that you're going to be happy even 50% of the time. What he said in this video about going to work and not bringing home hardly any money and not having any friends to hang out with and then just going home going to bed and waking up to do it all again tomorrow. As crappies that sounds for many of us that is what adulthood is. I can tell you it gets better. As you gain more experience, and as you get better at all the things you do, things also get better. More opportunities come your way, more money comes your way. But those things don't bring happiness either. I don't really enjoy what I do for work either but for 8 to 10 hours a day that place has me, and I am going to give my 110%. I'm not going to be lazy about anything I'm not going to complain about anything I'm going to ensure the company I work for knows that I am an absolute monster of an asset. That if you want something done you contact me. I pass up and destroy the lazy people and I help build up the hardworking smart people. That formula has worked out really well. Some days are complete hell and some days are incredibly rewarding. Do I love what I do? Absolutely not. But it pays the bills for me and for my family and allows me to have hobbies and provides my family with a good living. So much of life is about perspective. And I think social media has given a lot of people in Kalvin's generation The perspective that success brings happiness, that money brings happiness, that fame brings happiness. And nothing could be further from the truth. As you can see Kalvin has been going through that for the last 2 years. I'm sure in his head he thinks he just needs more, more money, more fame, more success. But with all of those things comes more stress. What you need is a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I'm a young kid fresh outta high school also from upstate by which is funny starting a summer business to make money for college, I'm not old and wise so I don't have any good tips for you, but it's encouraging to see you share your hardest times and know other people have those moments of struggle but fight though them. it's so awesome to see you be so real on camera and see your audience encourage you in what your doing and give you tips and guidence. your a great man, just keep at it, keep working hard.

I don't know you personally but you're speaking in a way that has me concerned for your mental health. You hang in there. You hit it right on the head; keep praying and keep fighting. Your true friends will reveal themselves real quick in these type of situations. Last year, I was dealing with serious mental health issues. Was having relationship problems. Then I caught covid. When i returned to work, a month later my father died. I was out for another month. Once I returned back to work, they let me go two weeks later. Then my financial troubles were piling up. Its a cruel world out here. My mind was in a dark place. You just have to believe and know there is something way better out there for you. Now I have a better job and am recovering mentally and emotionally. Keep your family and true friends close. Hang in there Kalvin.

Hey when I'm having a down week or month, when I get up in the morning, I try to make a point of listing all the things I'm grateful for in my life, simple things, and it can sometimes improve the day.

I feel you man, I’ve been through a situation similar recently myself, lost basically everything I’d worked for all just in front of my eyes after giving up everything for it. Main thing is to just keep your head up and you’ll get through it, you’ve learnt a lot from this which you can take forward, you’ll know what you need to do for next time, but always get a mentor, try and learn from the mistakes of others. Don’t give up on your dreams, you’ve got it bro❤

Keep going Kalvin, you’ve got what it takes to be very successful. You’re a talented guy but everyone needs a little help sometimes. I know painting cars is tedious and not the most fun work but maybe you can open a shop in the future that focuses mostly on that. Just a thought, stay strong bro!

There is a lot of great advice in this thread and support. Most importantly, never stop pursuing your dreams. There is nothing better than doing something you're passionate about. It gives you purpose and reason. Failure is not an option. Just go into the fall back position and attack your dream and succeed. You do outstanding work, it will pay off someday. Never give up.

Man this is very upsetting to know how badly you have been struggling. I feel for you and wish i could help do something like cleaning up things or whatever needs to be done, but live in georgia😢. wish i was closer. Again always loved your content and work ethic. And i really hate the fact that you dont have good buddys you can trust to have a decently ran shop. You deserve a hella lot better. We love you man. Just keep us updated.

Man, a part of me hates seeing this video but a part of me always wondered how that area would work out. I feel like you should have 500k to a million followers given the quality of videos and work that you put out. Starting a business at home is hard enough let alone in the middle of nowhere with no one around. Even with that, do not look at this as a failure or mistake. Just experience and lessons. You started a business AND moved across country in your 20's which most can't say. Hold your head high, learn and keep pushing. I wish I was closer I'd definitely help but I'm all the way in Maryland which might be a good area for you if not back to NY. Best wishes man, you'll be fine.

I completely understand. I moved to Louisiana for schooling / work. I've been in California my whole life. I hated the state, it's such a huge difference from home. I moved back after about 4 years. It was the happiest I've been in my life finally leaving. You know what's best for yourself.

I feel you man I live in ft worth now moved down here from Minnesota and it’s been rough. I have a decent job and make money so money isn’t the issue. It’s the relationships. No friends, no family, it’s like I just work, eat, and sleep. The daily life is not enjoyable at all and I’m looking to move at the end of my lease too. Just don’t know where yet. But don’t dread the move just know it’ll get done and you’ll make it happen. Keep that end goal in sight.

@@basedemt6608 your a tool, no support just an ass. Like what are you doing man people move, people migrate, it happens so get over it. Stop complaining about people moving to your state because without em you wouldn’t have any economy like Missouri or some shit. And why don’t you try supporting people especially other car enthusiasts if anybody. You are the type of person that just took a good opportunity and made it negative. Congrats!
