I Tried Making a Beat with Tracktion Waveform 11 Free | Using a FREE DAW 

I genuinely do think it’s a good daw and there’s a reason it’s beloved. I just didn’t love it’s workflow. However that doesn’t make it not great, as it clearly is a great and powerful DAW

I gotta agree,maybe music really isn’t this guy’s thing, I don’t know after the initial setup which is longer than most everything is a breeze and it sounds fantastic right out of the box ! No mixing or mastering or anything yet and I’m greatly impressed 😊

Why not work with midi tho

@@nebroskitheraut6705 probably cause not every style of music is suited to working with midi. Nobody asks EDM artists why they don't play acoustic guitar, what's the issue with someone not using midi?

It’s the music version of let’s play some new game. It’s kind of interesting to see a producers flow and how their mind works while learning how to use a program

Yeah I gotta agree, I’ve tried every single free DAW out there and with the absolute minimal effort this is by far the best out there in my opinion, plus i gotta say it’s a good thing he doesn’t try out DAWs like I do , by first grabbing one of those guitars he has lying around and hooking up the interface 😊

Jemyx first off thank you! , do I need a virtual synth for output? My own built in Microsoft synth won't allow me to hear the notes, even though they are registering on the DAW. I used to have a Roland synth and midi keyboard, now everything is just virtual on my windows 10 laptop. Also used Ableton live free trial which was great....so yeah, if I had money I wouldn't be using waveform.

@@jacquiventurini7877 Your DAW is not accessing your "Microsoft synth" which I assume you mean the one listed in your computer sound card?...you need to add a vst instrument to the track you entered midi notes on as in all DAWs...Ableton trial is the full ableton that comes with a ton of "native" (non-vst) instruments...that's why it cost $800...you were probably using the stock "native" instruments...all you have to do is google free vst instruments...there is literally not a single instrument category left that doesn't have a quality free vst instrument available...download those and add them to a track...play midi with your piano controller or draw midi with your mouse and the vst instruments will play the notes...or you could pay like $120 (way less than $800) and get a bunch of "native" instruments just like ableton...2 synths(4osc + subtractive), a rompler sound module (collective), a drum machine, and a multi-sampler...as well as two industry standard audio editors/pitch correction tools (auto-tune access + melodyne essential)....Tracktion's youtube page has a bunch of tutorial videos and they have a decent manual and almost all icons and buttons have explanatory mouseovers...ableton is great, but it doesn't really have many features that all the other DAWs dont have as well any more....the irony is when ableton first came out it was compared to tracktion in terms of immediacy, and ease of learning curve...if ur frustrated by tracktion, you better never crack open pro tools, DP, Samplitude, or cubase lol....what is ur use case and what are your musical objectives?...what did you accomplish in ableton trial that you thought was easier?

Have you tried reaper? If that doesn’t work and you have money then I highly recommend this current studio one 5. It is by far one of the best daws around

And at 5:25 i barely realized what was going on by the look of your face haha i even struggled like how do the heck do i record !!! Hahaha smh this makes me feel better at least cause i still managed to work with this and actually some good tracks but I’m excited to upgrade to a better daw lol

Lol I’m glad you enjoyed it. I sincerely tried to convey repeatedly that the DAW is good and people love it. My only issues were the workflow being less than universal but that doesn’t make it bad at all. It’s beloved for a reason after all. People have really gotten mad over this video tho. Lol.

@@EgoCheap LOL ppl need to relax. Your take was just flat out honest, and hilariously so. Different programs have different workflows, and switching to an alien one can be a super frustrating experience at first. I'll even admit, even tho Waveform has become my main squeeze, certain things make me go "why?" Lol

@@EgoCheap I used cakewalk 20 years ago, when it was still owned by sonar... it was in line with Cubasis then!!! Not bad!! Fairly traditional workflow at that time! Traction’s workflow is way to over thought and obscure!!! It was quite amusing hearing someone verbalize a frustrating experience that I had already gone through... at like 8 minutes when you couldn’t get sound I knew the plot!

I never understand point of videos like this...people jus make videos for clicks instead of makin music...this is just DAW bias coming from other tools...tracktion has been pioneering in the DAW space for decades...has always been one of the most intuitive...but people new to computer music always think they can watch a video not read the manual and jump in as a power user...every power tool has a learning curve...nobody is giving you more functionality per price point on PC than tracktion the regular version...yeah let me never learn how to fix a porsche, pop the hood and be like this is stupid, nothing is where it should be, I dont know how to change the oil...let me go on the internet and slag off porsches for affirmation from strangers...people been finishing albums on tracktion before your latest trendy favorite daw was ever around...there a small company making great products with great customer service trying hard to survive but since millenials and gen z are social media addicted and so impressionable, people like you can do real unnecessary damage....you haven;t bothered to learn it, read the manual or even watch videos,...provide no objective perspective or insight in point comparison to alternatives, ..and you askin for patreons?

@@jonathansaunders6697 this video shows the exact experience I had when I tried out the software! Traktions workflow is a trainwreck! I have 20+ yrs studio experience, I’ve used every DAW ever made! If I can’t pick up a DAW without reading the manual twice, there might be some issues!

@@douglaskane4708 thats because ur comin in with a preconceived bias and expectation..you said it yourself...if ur mind is not open to doing something different, you will never realize the possible benefits of different approaches and never grow...if you have a daw that works, you're that committed to a particular mental model and workflow, and don't want to entertain change, ..why are you even trying to "use every DAW ever made"? You would prolly have the same experience with HH the first time, but people who have never used a DAW before find it immensely intuitive and start finding ways to max its power immediately....its called predisposition, muscle memory, and confirmation bias

have you tried FL studio? or reaper? why do you perfer waveform?

It isn't like that, youtuber had no clue what he was doing. There is a very comprehensive manual and a ton of vids out there on this DAW. Did he use em? Nah fuck that noise.

He put the instrument plugin below the FX, that's why it didn't work. Instruments are supposed to be first in any chain. If he read up before using it he would've not had such a rough time.

i mean yeah true, but to be fair he did seem deadset on not using any google or youtube, or (idk if it was included then) watching the videos they include with the DAW to teach you how to use it…also no idea what the ctrl+a not working it seems work for me :/ regardless the experience he had is still an experience someone somewhere will have

and actually in the mixer view the signal flow is the same as in bitwig mix view so yeah even in bitwig you put a sampler after the volume(fader) and pan or an eq?? ,for real its labeled there 1.volume and pan plugin 2.level meter, he didn't even thought to drag the instruments towards up....even on an analog mixer the sound(mics/instruments that are connected) travels from the top of the console through the comp/eq's etc until they meet fader....its a shame for tracktion that video simply because with what functionality they give to us even if it's limited THEY PRACTICALLY HELPING people to get over from cracked software for example in comparison with ableton lite with limited track count,bitwig without saving a project,they limited pretty much some extra or unneeded functions only. in conclusion the trade is very big here you have a full functional(without some extra functions) DAW...and the most important you don't steal a software (work & bread from a programmer) and finally you don't threaten your computer's health .
