Lol, I think I've been coding for about half a year total (on and off for probably 2 years) and I've been doing pixel art for a much shorter amount of time.
Not really, it fundamentally misunderstands why people play clicker games. At the core of ever clicker game is a management game, the only difference between clickers and other factory/management games is that instead of grinding in a game world to get the resources you need to move forward; you press a button/do some other simple task. If you understand why people play CIV or factario, then you understand why people play cookie clicker or AdVenture Capitalist.

Using capital letters in vain is a sin, too. But yes, WTF, h b??? "Unity Brethren" sounds like some developer cult responsible for 99% of today's software bloat.
Great Game! Try activating the "size over lifetime" option on each particle system so the paticles wont just disappear. Instead they will get smaller and then disappear.
I have an idea. If you have made a lot of money, you can prestige. This means you will reset everything, but everything is worth like 1% more and you can reach the prestige level again and restart again with that bonus
@@haydenbellis3047 You clearly have a strong faith, but the comments of an old video is not the place to share it. Besides, many people already have a faith and all this you're doing will make yours seem silly (I'm sure you don't want that).
I've played it and really enjoyed it, despite some technical issues. I'll post a video so you can see what I mean. (I put more detail on the game page but I can't be bothered to re-write it all!)
Yes, I had a minecraft channel for about a year, the the videos weren't super editing intensive but the channel did help me learn how to talk in videos and how to not make them boring. But almost all the editing stuff I've learned within the past couple of weeks.
Great video once again! I'm currently working on an endless runner in Unity with working character customization. But I can't get the ground check to work :/
I wouldn't take coding advice from me, but what I do is check if the character is colliding with an object with a certain tag, give every ground object that tag, and change a bool to true if the character is colliding and to false if not.
@@Deynum I'm currently using a Physics2D overlapArea, which seems to work. My bool isGrounded gets set to the correct value, but when I jump it doesn't work. I'm starting to think it's not my ground detection though. Because it still plays the sound whenever I (should but don't) jump.
LOL, interesting! Well ours took closer to 1.5 years and we still haven't added all the features to it. We actually took our original MMA clicker game and just released a modern take on it. Instead of mindless clicking for hours and hours, over months and even years, we use mini-games to increase the attributes of the fighter. It's just on iOS now but working on Android version at the moment. MMA Fight Club 2.
The number display sorta breaks when they get too big. It's definitely a job well done but clicker games are strangely some of the hardest to dev despite the seeming complexity. I've seen many devs need months before updates because because they simply can't playtest as fast the players progress even though they have dev powerups enabled like x2 speed just because players (like me) are so aggressive with it.
He could have saved 99% of EXE size with one weird trick: . . . Don't use Unity. Many Unity games are buggy 80-megabyte monsters which could be 80 kilobytes without Unity, with fewer bugs. There are use cases for Unity, but this ain't one. You get carried away by stuff like Unity, too. Little things like "I designed 4 clouds, but one was actually enough" add up during development. He could have done it in 16 hours, at least if he has dev experience outside Unity, which he most probably has.

This looks good for 24 hours, if you were given more time maybe instead of having one building per citizen button you could of maybe had it all as one button, this way when you lvl it, it will be one house per lvl up to x amount of houses then they go up in density slowly per lvl after max amount of small houses by one or two houses. This way it would feel less empty and more like a city since that's kind of the vibe I get from this game. The second button could of been like government things like utilities/infrastructure button like lvl 1 utilities being a road then lvl 2 a water tower or something and so on and you need a certain amount of houses to unlock the button, but you also can't expand the city without lvling this up and it being the most expensive button up till offices but it boost shops, industry, and offices by 20% or something after every two lvls. The third button could be like shops which is unlocked after lvl 3 citizens and it starts with one shop and goes up to however many shops you limit it to then it goes up in density like citizens. It also can't go up past certain lvls without an x amount of lvls in industry. The fourth being industry which could be unlocked after lvl 3 utilities, lvl 5 citizens, and lvl 2 shops. It gives a per second rate like shops and citizens, but it almost boost those two by 10% per lvl and the industry gets bigger then once max factory amount and size are reached then you have them replaced by green industry buildings. The fifth being offices after x amount of lvls in all the other buttons where you start getting 10 story buildings, it will be the most dense part of the city, also the most per second and most expensive per lvl button. Maybe have a prestige system like sell your city and start over for special currency for more upgrades that were hidden before. This would really make it feel like you were building up a city and keep people more engaged perhaps after awhile. Though that's just my idea on what I would of done if I had the skills for it, maybe you could come back to this and work on it more but it's fine if you don't.
I'd love to but I sadly enough cannot upload games to either the app store or the play store, this is because you need a credit card for that, and here in the Netherlands it's not normal to have one, so I don't.
@@Deynum You can get a credit card pretty easy nowadays. You do pay a bit extra for the service but using it wont cost anything extra. Its kind of a debit credit card really. The money gets deducted from your normal account at the end of the month. Comment is 1 year old i know. Just letting you know.
@@blockify playerprefs afaik are reliable, they're stored in some place even I cant find deep inside some folder somewhere, I t h i n k they're a json file. they can't move computers tho.
@@CHKNSkratch thanks so much for the reply! wasn't sure if you'd even be active after 9 months haha. That's perfect! I wanna develop a clicker/idle game and this should be really well for what I need - especially since I shouldn't need data to transfer between computers!
@@blockify player prefs are nice, but if you want to make an idle game consider following a tutorial on a json saving system, you have to make a new playerpref for every new variable you want to save and while this isnt an issue on runtime it's messy in code and takes a while.
uhm, that was on purpose... I manually played the particle system when they spawned in to give it more of an impact (the gameobject was there from the start, you just couldn't see it)
i have tried the game, and half of the text that is supposed to be on the buttons is ofscreen and parts of the text are below the buttons making them unreadable due to the white background.
Somebody remade your game on Scratch. I don't know if you gave them permission or if it's actually you but I just wanted to tell you in case you want to take it down. It's been a while since I've seen it so I don't have the project link, sorry.
you have the basic right ,my only issu and its not just your game its a lot of clicker game issu is you open you game full screen mode instead of windowed and event if you alt+enter you cannot resize the game ,clicker/idler game are made to run in the background went you do something else so its not a good thing that you full screen the game
I need help here what is the best way to start making games like clicker games and normal games in general like the coding languages that are used for game making and like the animation and ui elements and stuff i just wanna make games but i dont know how to start learning and where to start..
