the walking through security in american schools is a thing. i never had to at my high school but i had friends and cousins at other schools who did have do that, so it really just depends, unfortunately. some schools even make it a rule you have to have a clear see through backpack so everyone can see what you're carrying as well

We always had security in the high school in the 90s but they were plain clothes and roamed the halls. They were also by the cront gates but no detectors . Parents and visitors always had to be buzzed in as well.

I remember having to walk through security and being wanded in both middle and high school. Also had to have school ID that had a bar code on it that got scanned every morning to sign you into school. Plus we had to wear school uniforms with the school’s name and mascot on it.

we didn't have to walk through security but we had police officers assigned to our campus that just hung around and were there every day during the school hours. We had them As well as the regular campus security. We had plenty of threats and stuff at my school too which I'm sure was why.

It's so fun seeing everyone's take on school! My school was the queen's old summer house, it was originally a private school turnt public school on the seafront in the UK! It had the huge stairways going up to the principles office, a big bell tower with spiral stairs abd the original ballroom that had the huge bay windows facing the grounds was even there! So a very different type of school setting than most, especially being right on the seafront 😊

The idea of building a high school seems so daunting. I’ll definitely draw ideas from other builds At all of my schools growing up the cafeterias were near the front but in their own enclosed space. people tend to use plants as an "organics" bin, at least at my school. so there are plenty of mandarin peels and apple cores rotting in the plants. also most of the potted plants are ridden with weeds or dead....but i suppose that's more of an upkeep issue (or kids sabotaging it with their left over coke or something)

When you were talking about making the school more secure it made me a bit emotional.... I'm hoping and praying that someday American schools won't have to be built with shooters in mind, and that someday thinking of schools won't send my mind straight to some kind of horrible tragedy. Definitely makes me feel very privileged to live in a country like Australia where we do have a pretty good protection policy and our non gun rules. Sadly the states have yet to tell the politicians we don't want assault style weapons to be sold to anyone without proper vetting and instruction on use. My high school (In the US, Ohio to be specific) was designed and built in the 1980’s, and was very modern for the time. A lot of glass and open air (and it’s an eighth of a mile - or 660 feet/201 meters long) - which would be great if it wasn’t in an area where tornadoes are common. In order to get to the tornado shelters we had to walk through a hallway that was nicknamed “The Fishbowl” because it was entirely glass on both sides with one side on the exterior of the building. During a tornado if the glass broke it would have turned into “The Blender”.

This looks so amazing and much more accessible than the huge one the pack is shipped with. Don't get me wrong I like the style of the official high school but it's just way too cavernous. This one is so cute, I can't wait to download it. The only thing it's missing is a gym for the football/cheer teams and I kinda feel like the computer and chess teams also deserve their own rooms. Maybe you could add those too before you're able to upload it to the gallery? I feel like this school is small enough that clubs have to meet in the normal schooltime classrooms or activity room after they've cleared out (with scheduling conflicts from time to time that has students and/or teachers fighting over a given space), and then there's a separate lot for the gymnasium/auditorium combo building. And the principal is the only on-site administrator as well as their own secretary, doing a lot of the stuff needed to keep the school running themselves and delegating some rolls the teachers or the small student counsel during club hours and in between class periods.

So interesting to hear about your schools. I’m from America and my highschool was huge, it was two connected buildings, the old building and the new building called the freshman building. They were connected by a large curved hallway. Both buildings were three stories (not including the basement that was just storage and maintenance). Our cafeteria was huge and we had a school store that sold snacks during non lunch periods for students in study halls. We had two auditoriums, a soccer feild, tennis courts, baseball stadium, and football stadium. And we had three gyms, one small one, one large one, and one only for wrestling.

It would of been really cute if they also added water fountains where students bladders would go down just like when any other sims drink other beverages. And as an add on our sims can splash each other with water and get in trouble from the principle. Overall, I’m so excited to build with this pack as I can definitely relate that Australian schools don’t have those fancy cafeteria but more like canteen takeaway blocks. The other thing is the lot is big enough to have seperate buildings I think realistically (not sure if same applies to America or else where) in Australia we have different building blocks like block A or B for different class sections like science, arts or music.

I have never seen security at a Canadian high school before. I, too, have only seen it on television and movies from the States. We do commonly have indoor plants in our schools, though. Two of the public elementary schools that I went to actually had courtyards and conservatories that were full of plants. The conservatory was quite large, actually. Regarding cafeterias, in my experience in Canada there are definitely cafeterias in high schools here, but they are different from what I have seen from Hollywood. Here, the cafeterias that I have been in have just basically been large rooms with tables and seating for students to sit and eat at. There are no food lines like there are in American film, but there are often small restaurants (or one restaurant), like a mall food court, that are contracted to offer food, but many students bring their own lunches.

The front door was unlocked at the start and end of the day, but otherwise you had to be buzzed in by the office through a security camera outside. After being buzzed in you enter an entry way that had two lowered metal bar gates (literally a jail lmao) that stopped people from entering the halls. You would have to go through the main office. The office door inside had a magnetic lock that the front desk would release to let you into the office, then they would have to do that again at a second door to let you into the hallways. There is also a cop that patrols the hallways and is based in the school.

Been teaching HS for a very long time. There are many potential layouts but here's the general: 1) Main offices are near the front entrance for security as they control who gets in and easy access for parents though assistant principals may be nearer to classrooms in case help is needed. 2) Cafeterias are centrally located so no one has to go far and often double as meeting areas for activities or to hang out during breaks... TVs are often on the walls there to show school news and other things. 3) Showers are near the gym for obvious reasons often with locker rooms for changing like at spas. 4) Some gyms have a stage for drama or graduation if the school doesn't have an auditorium. A few even have pools for swim teams. 5) While it's iconic... most schools have done away with lockers for security reasons. Kids often just carry a laptop so there's not as books... but lockers have a function in the game so I guess they are needed. We took lockers out of our school over 20 years ago. 6) A lot of high schools have an outdoor courtyard for kids to hang out. We even have one for seniors only as something special for them. 7) And yes by law we have special disabled bathrooms... these are also offered for those that for one reason or another aren't comfortable in the designated gendered bathrooms. Then there are staff bathrooms as you don't want adults in the kids bathrooms. 8) Glad you were thinking about colors. There's a whole study about what colors are uplifting but calming. Some students can't handle overly complicated color patterns... such as those with autism. BUT PLEASE put some aquariums, plants... even small pets in one classroom. It's really great for kids.

My high school in Pennsyvania had showers (no stalls) off the gym. You get sweaty in gym class and they require you to shower before boing back to class. There was a monitor that checked off if you showered as it was part of your gym grade. Showers were deffinity needed for the boys after they played baseball as they stank. I was lucky my gym class was usually either last class of the day or I study hall after so showers weren't as monitored.

I went to school in Florida. My high school was a single story, sprawling building with no windows except on the office and 2 math rooms at the back of the school. We had a separate building for the cafeteria and a two story building that had all the history classes for some reason. We didn't have to go through security or anything back then, but it wouldn't surprise me if they had to now. It was super old and gross. I can't imagine going to a school that had funds to renovate or upkeep the campus lol. Our school spent all their money on sports.

This is more like Canadian schools... Still a bit fancy, but way more believable. Love the learning centre in the top you did. Here our cafeterias are just an eating place (you don't really get food there, just bring it). Some schools have some food to buy, but it'd just be packaged snacks. The school I teach at has one in the basement. Most others I've been in are somewhat close to the front of the school, but definitely in a new room. (the school I went to in grade 12 had a cafeteria that doubled as an "auditorium", since it had a stage in it... You just had to set up stairs and stuff for assemblies). What's interesting is that the school politics in Australia and Canada are also very similar to each other! Love the build. :)

In my high school in Aus, we had stairs all over the place since we were built on a hill. Kids would slide down railings and hang over the edges. It was definitely not safe.

I’m Australian =) So I went to school in a two story series of buildings; they basically divided subjects up by building and level. The exterior staircases were concrete and had a platform/resting point at the midway because the classrooms were super tall. I remember it was like 12-14 steps on the lower part of the staircase and 8-10 on the upper part. We ABSOLUTELY tried to jump from the top of the stairs to the mid-landing point, and then from the midpoint to the ground. We also absolutely stacked it and fell down….but we were all made of rubber apparently and I don’t know of anyone that broke anything. I also know of a guy who just decided to jump over the concrete half wall they had as railings around the upper level instead of using the stairs. He landed fine and continued on his way like nothing happened. This was northwest of Sydney, about a 2 hour direct train ride from Darling Harbour. So not in the main city itself, but not super far out either.

This is such a great and realistic American high school! Obviously it is smaller than any school I've attended, it works perfectly. The only thing, and it is a nonissue, is that the first floor classroom might complain about noise coming from the main entrance/cafeteria area but this is the Sims. I agree that the principal's desk needs to be fixed too, haha.

I live in the US in the south. Our school lunches are government funded so everyone can eat for free but it’s kind of gross food and you don’t get a choice of foods, you have to eat what is served. And as far as security, the front doors have to be buzzed in by the office so they know if someone is there and most but not all junior/high schools the kids have to walk through metal detectors but not necessarily security. This is normal lunch and security for most public school anyway. I always love learning about other countries so I though I would tell you a little about it here.

Something my school had that I never saw on movie schools were mud/cloak rooms. Between two classrooms would be a small room with a door to the outdoors. Everyone would keep their snow pants/hats/mittens/muddy boots in this room hung up on hooks during school hours. Lockers were still in the hallways in front of the classes. But on snowy/rainy/muddy days students usually wouldn't go in through the main front doors and track mud into the school, we'd all go in the back doors to our classrooms.

Even my small high school was about this big. There was a hugggge central cafeteria called the “commons” which was where we ate and also the central hub to the school. When I saw this I thought omg this is like the movies !!! And it literally was. It was where we hung out. All the tables were cliqued up! It’s where a lot of fights and drama went down. I’m so grateful for my hs experience. It was def like the movies. I went to middle school with 21 savage and high school with his manager mega man and he made music during high school and one of the songs went on the radio! We used to sing it at pep rallies which were huge parties before a game. Man I wanna make a story time video talking about my high school days lol. Def gonna make sure my daughter goes to a school as 🔥 as mine was !!!! Super important

Love this building! It looks so much more realistic for me as a European as well… in most schools here, there’s no cafetaria either. We bring our own food from home. Lots of schools are in old historic buildings (like the one I used to go to), but we also have a lot of modernised school buildings especially when you go outside the bigger cities.

On the note of walking through security to get into school, I grew up in a pretty typical suburb in western New York State, in elementary and middle school (k-8th grade) we didn’t have security (2000-2010ish) in high school we didn’t have metal detectors but they would bring in drug dogs to search and the building was locked during the day requiring you to be buzzed in with an intercom once classes were going on. In contrast the nearby city schools had metal detectors at the entrance when I was in high school.

the school in the city near my town has metal detectors that everyone has to walk through, they have school ids (I know that's more normal in some places but I never had one) that have to be shown when entering, then they also have to have those like handheld scanners used on everyone. and all of this was put in place bc kids kept sneaking weapons in and trying to kill each other. this was also the high school, I don't know about like the middle and elementary school. then you've got the school I went to where the most "security" we had was you had to be buzzed in to the school and we had an SRO that occasionally left their office.

Yeah, we had more and more security, and I graduated in 09'. I remember running through halls and stairs just to get to my next class lol, like a half mile. And you know, we had the school shooter drill, fire drills... It became common for randos to also make fake bomb threats so here and there we would evacuate the school. I hated how the random fire drills would be when it was 32 freaking degrees out and having to leave class to go outside. A lot of us didn't have warm clothing on (unless you had a hoodie on) and I couldn't go to my locker for a coat lol. I don't miss high school...

I work in American public education. Our two lower campuses in town (elementary and middle school) both have their cafeterias in a central location, where our junior high and high school are on the same grounds, and share a cafeteria so it is an independent building located centrally on the campus. I think it's a little different everywhere. I will say the building you built looks very similar to a lot of the older high schools around where I live (think 70's and 80's as the older buildings) there's a lot of buildings being done currently in my state.

The US is so different not just state by state but town by town. We had to show our student IDs to walk in but no metal detectors, and they only checked our bags on Valentine’s Day because it was the anniversary of a shooting in our state (yes, Florida). My rival high school was in a rougher area and they did have metal detectors. I wouldn’t call it the norm, but not necessarily uncommon. Also I went to 2 high schools growing up because I moved and the first one didn’t require IDs and all exterior doors were unlocked and totally open throughout the day.

Your comment about having to walk through security in high schools really hit me hard. When I graduated back in 1988 we didn't have the security systems like they do now. When my daughter graduated some years later, it was rather heartbreaking to see the changes that had to be made just to keep students safe. I am so thankful that real life violence (other than the obvious fist fight) has never made its way into Sims.
