As ana rtist myself, i just wanna let you know. When learning anatomy, yes, it's good to learn about muscles, tendons, and bone structure, but you don't need to know abt every single muscle and tendon in the human body, you just need to learn how to break the body into basic shapes to make it easier to draw
@nikitabee9908
@nikitabee9908 2 года назад
this! i agree completely :) breaking down the body into simple 3d shapes (cylinder, spheres, boxes, etc) directly on top of the reference is how i improved a lot of my general proportions and anatomy ^^
@beef3099
@beef3099 2 года назад
agreed!!! breaking anything down into shapes is necessary to drawing and i think is way more valuable than seeing how each bone, muscle, etc works and fits together :]

This series has honestly been so motivating. I had always been on and off with drawing/practicing, but just kept putting it off for lack of motivation or just because I was busy. However, seeing you having the self discipline to commit to a hobby, in this case drawing, it has definitely inspired me and made me start to see things from a different perspective. Keep up the amazing work, dish

I'm honestly so amazed by your progress and persistence. I've been drawing for nearly 10 years now and have always found that I progress slower. Watching you learn how to draw and being so wise about it has honestly inspired me to learn more myself. Can't wait to draw along with you during your streams and these videos

I recommend watching speedpaints or others make a drawing from start to finish, that's what i did for a long time and i have definitely learned alot from just watching others draw and paint. This way you can learn what to focus on in what order, because i can imagine it is very overwhelming to know what to start learning first. I've watched your other videos on this series and i'll be following you on this journey 🐣!

yes the hand is difficult, but wait till you get to the feet XD always delighted to watch this series! How I learned is that I try to practice and focus on one part of the body at a time, even if I'm drawing an entire body. Like one time the way I draw the face was great and the rest of the body looks wonky, but slowly but surely I moved on to other parts of the body, and I even managed to master (a bit) the hands last year! Now I have to work on the feet ahahahaha. Slowly but surely and one at a time dish! Always rooting for you!

A good way to learn anatomy is to simplify the body into shapes as you did in your previous weeks. It's important to study the dimension of the body and it's curves, bodies aren't flat or stuff they are full of curves and expression depending on what your drawing. That's my tip haha

I would recommend maybe focusing on one part of anatomy at a time such as head, arms, legs, main torso or even just hands then learn to put those together later on. This could be a way to not overwhelm yourself and just do it in a relaxed way!!

Tbh you’re really good at it! Anatomy is really important and really hard and I think you nailed it!! 💕💕 I recommend drawing the same portrait every time when you do your self portrait so in the end you could actually see did you improved or not. It’s just my recommendation and hope it works well for you💕💕.

What I know about drawing figures: When drawing a person woth clothing on, it's good to sketch out their full body first. Some pieces like skirts and oversized clothes can really mess with anatomy, so itis good to draw the whole body under clothes first, so you don't get lost later trying to figure out where everything goes.

Yo I think more important than anatomy is practicing gesture, proportion and shape. Once you feel like you are confident in that, anatomy is the next step. Learning anatomy when not grasping basic art skill can be very frustrating and discouraging. If shift your focus more to dynamic and appealing looking art, you'll be a lot happier learning and creating. (In my experience)

your closing thoughts and ‘no wrong way to draw’ was really eye-opening to me. i’m an artist who has been drawing for a really long time and i guess i’m pretty decent at it. but from time to time i still feel bad about my art ( usually when i see people younger than me drawing really well haha ). i can draw faces.. well i thinK but my body anatomy still needs a bit of work. even though people say i’m good at drawing, i can still see things i can keep working on. this is something i’ve always liked about drawing, it’s that i can see my improvement. i’m really excited to see your progress dish and your improvement from 3 weeks ago is really big! i’m glad the bad thoughts don’t stop you from you’re goal. i wish you good luck for the future and us youtube & twitch frogs will always support you

Aaaaa dish this series is so inspiring ;u; ive been drawing for well over a decade now, but honestly.... seeing someone just beginning their own journey while not unnecessarily bashing their own art and process is such a breath of fresh air C: I often see new artists fall into art-envy in a non-productive way so easily... it’s honestly a skill in and of itself to not be discouraged by it. I think that you have been doing great with these!! And I can’t wait for what lays in the future :D

Hi dish, I have really been enjoying this series so far and watching you grow!! As someone who struggled with drawing humans for a period of time, one thing that helped me was learning proportions (like how big the body is in relation to the head and the legs, how long the arms should be etc). Even though not every drawing needs to be proportionate (like if I'm stylising something) it gives a reference point for me to start with! All the best!!!

Also i would recommend you try doing a quick practice in which you draw for 10 minutes (like for example find difrent poses and draw each for about about a minute), i think it could really help you practice the line of movement and action in your art, doing quick sketches is really fun and relaxing, it s a great way of seeing the bigger picture an recognizing movement and basic shapes of which our body is made of. That being said thank you for the amazing series and keep going, you're doing great, we're proud of you!

Dish you’re doing amazingg!!!! I would say to try and combine what you’ve learned about shape and forms into anatomy. Like having a square or oval shape for the torso and so on. Using shapes as a base for drawing a body is super helpful so I recommend you give it a try. Alsoo, when if you want to test your skills a bit, when drawing a person that has clothes on, that’s mostly covering their body, I recommend trying to figure out where the rest of their body is under it(if that makes sense). But once again you’re doing amazingly and we’re all super proud of youu!!!

wowow i love seeing the progress already!! one tip i have since you are learning digital specifically, is to take a deep dive on learning as much about your art program as possible, learn how brushes work; how to modify and create them, learn as many tools as you can, layer adjustments, blending modes, etc. just really explore the program because the great thing about digital is that there are so many ways to create and modify and play around, and digital allows for a lot of shorthands that can save a lot of time while producing very cool results! i mean ive been using photoshop for art for almost 9 years now and i STILL learn new tricks. keep at it i cant wait to see what you make!!

Dish Draws! This has been so encouraging to keep practicing with my own art, so thank you so much for sharing! Those lips you drew, and that nose though!!! Those are 2 parts of the face that I STRUGGLE with lol. For finding a place to start, or where to go next, I totally get, I’m the same way. Something I found has helped me figure out where to start and where to go next is looking at my art and picking one part about it that I want to work on and improve. Like for a little while I really didn’t know how to draw faces, so I watched videos and practiced specifically on how to draw faces overall. Then I picked eyes, cuz I didn’t like the way I drew them at the time, I did the same with proportioning a face, noses, hair, and coloring. It might help for breaking down all that anatomy too? Picking smaller parts of anatomy that you’ve learned about, like first the face, then hands, then torsos, hips, how to connect them? Or something like that. Totally up to you if that’s a method you’d like to consider in the future, but like you said, there really is no right way to learn art, but maybe this will help finding YOUR way to learn art a little easier. Ultimately it is ABSOLUTELY UP TO YOU! THIS IS YOUR JOURNEY, and remember you really are doing ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Can’t wait for the next one!

Hey Dish! It’s so cool to see your progress and your ambition in becoming a better artist! As an artist it’s inspiring! One concept that’s helped with my mental hurdles concerning digital painting (that’s also really helped with my drawing) is breaking things down into really simple shapes. Ian Roberts has multiple really really good videos on this and also demonstrates them very clearly. Thought they might help you in your art journey!
@YayaFeiLong
@YayaFeiLong 2 года назад
I don't know if you're taking advice, but for learning anatomy I recommend figure sketching / gesture drawing -- quick sketches with emphasis on proportions and posing over detail and polish. Specifically, start with skeletal proportions first, then after you've got that down you can start on basic muscle groups and go from there Anatomy is the most foundational thing for drawing human figures. It's the base upon which everything else is built upon -- posing, emotion, lighting and shadows, clothing design and behavior, etc. A basic understanding of human anatomy will go a long way to making all of those other things considerably easier to grasp There's no wrong way to learn art, but there are some ways to learn a little quicker! :)

Yeeeey more Dish drawing! I’m amazed at the progress! I’ve been in the same situation as you, tried to learn to draw and stopped for 1,5 years. Your videos are a great motivation to continue and not give up! I’m now trying to get back into it. Personally, I think more time should be spent on anatomy, before going directly into shading. The way I would go about it is dividing anatomy into smaller parts instead of tackling the whole thing at once since it’s a pretty broad subject. For example, u can first focus on the head face and hair, then on the anatomy of the body, and then on hands and feet. Of course it’s just my opinion, and it might not work since everyone learns differently, so u don’t have to follow it, but that’s the process that I would follow.
