I've been using my M1 MacBook Pro for a full month and I recently switched back to an Intel MacBook for a while.... surely it can't be that bad right? Ruh Roh

Not digging the 13" screen. They will make you spend $$$ then next year come out with 16-17 inch screen at same price. I'll wait a few more years. My old Apple does everything.

they didn't make me buy their laptop. I did. I had a lot of options. I could have taken 16" for the big screen, I could have bought from dell. And my new Apple (lol you mean new MacBook) does everything.

@@Kendal1999 I mean I think I can agree with you. The M1 macbook objectively has brillant battery life, keeps cool and therefore quiet, is therefore also sleek and turns on quick due to ARM. What always triggers me are the people bragging about their performance with an M1 because the ratio performance/power is awesome, but it doesnt have the best absolute performance. An AMD laptop at the same price can tear the M1 appart to the point where single core is the same but multicore is double the M1.

Linus brought up the issue of clickbait titles, and while he disagrees with the practice and thinks it's insulting to the audience, it does drive more viewers than standard titles. Which sucks but it's an effective method of driving consumers to view the content.

I am a pretty hardcore Touch Bar fan. It really helps me spell in multiple languages and love the customizability. So as one of the 6 fans I can confirm no one wants a touchscreen escape button.

Im a fan of it too. I think it really depends on programs you use. Parallels and Xcode take advantage of it pretty well and I find myself using it for Office applications at times too where I can't quickly remember the key combo.

dude i have a macbook air 2014 and even the fans work better for some reason, but i do agree the fans and heat is unbearable once it kicks in and i legit have to close the laptop, wait 2 minutes, then use it again to wait 20 minutes later for it to happen again

Not rly, IMO intel CPU's are way better b/c of their compatibility with x86 architecture. Apple is just putting a really powerful phone in to a computer with their M1's.

@@Pigsbeawesome got an m1 mbp, outperforms my surface book 2 in every possible way, including rendering and 3d modeling. Only keeping the surfacebook for some software that is not yet been optmimized but would sell it in a heartbeat. The overall experience on the macbook is just soo much better. Will trade it for the m1x mbp 14" tho, since i could use those extra cores for some quick cpu rendering on the go.

Typing this out on my intel i9 2019 macbook pro. Good video! Definitely not enough to convince me to upgrade. Haven't had any problems with mine, have no problems at all with the keyboard and honestly, this thing has been quite the workhorse in all the creative work that I do regularly.

I've been blown away with my new M1 AIR - with 1tb and 16 gig of ram. With real function keys. Having that machine ready allowed me to restore my mid 2012 MBP (with 2TB ssd and 16 gig ram) and it runs much better now, too. So glad for the 9 years I had with that particular intel variant. I will be using both as long as I can - and the best of both worlds.

I wouldn’t worry. Bootcamp still exists, you have an entire library of x86 and x64 applications at your disposal. A few years down the line another Apple Silicon Mac would be out there waiting for you.

Same here, but the ability to boot Windows and play AAA games isn't something possible on the M1 natively. I plan on keeping this thing for years and will probably supplement it with an Apple Silicon device in the future.

@@cgi2173 😂 ive unwillingly had to upgrade my 2009 to a 2015 air because it died on me. Luckily I bought the 2015 ab a week before it did because i use it for school and I only upgraded because office was no longer supported on my mac, and was making all the sharepoint files not work properly.

@@beanbean9364 Nobody questions that. But the M1 Macs are the worst Apple Silicon Macs Apple is ever going to release (New generation with a lot of bugs and and an completely outdated design). There is absolutely no need to buy the first generation of those Macs right away when you have a Intel Mac that still serves your needs, but a lot of people make it seem that way.

Exactly. I could care less about how fast my fast machine wakes up. The already high level of pretentiousness that the Apple camp has will only get worse, probably along the lines of “enlightened” Linux/arch users. Should we really be shocked that the M1 defeats one of Intel’s worst generations of chips, thats already 2 years old and was a terrible value even when new?

For me, I would have more peace of mind with the newer M1 laptops versus the Intel models if just for one reason: the thermals. I had a terrible experience with my old MacBook Pro when it came to overheating, and I’ve had friends who’ve had their MacBooks basically fry themselves. Many Apple laptops, including the 2019 MacBook Air, had horrendous cooling systems. So, in that regard, at least the M1 is all but eliminating one of the single biggest headaches with Apple laptops.

I turned in my fully spec’d late 2013 15” for the base model M1 MBP and it’s shocking how much better it is in CPU performance and RAM allocation while using Logic Pro X. The only downside I can think of is that it only supports one external display, but all in all having 20 hours of battery life during media consumption is insane alone and totally worth it with trade in cost

@Azman I feel you. I got a PowerMac G5 a year before they ditched the Power pc processor for Intel, rendering the computer more or less useless years before it should have. That said your Air will be a nice machine for a long time still. “Wear it out” and get a new one when you no longer get updates. And by then, there may be a M2 Air. 😊

I’ve barely used the M1 macs, however I can DEFINITELY tell a difference in animations and app launch speeds. It’s just a lot snappier overalls. Makes the intel models feel like laptops from 2011

I appreciate that you were going for maximum contrast, but it would have been much more interesting if you did some comparisons to recent 16in pro also. As that computer compares much more favorably to the current crop of M1 machines even if it doesn’t offer the same battery life or other unique features of the M1 platform.

Absolutely insane. The M1 and the even M1X are really just trouncing anything Intel has put out. They (Intel) are continuing to get beat up by AMD and now Apple. You love to see it, as all it will do is ignite some real competitive spirit again.

Actually I have a mid 2014 iMac 21.5” with 8gb ram and an intel core i5 and it performs… fine. Not fast or anything and boot times are slow but it also is using only a hard drive. If you have an SSD you should be fine to upgrade. I’ve not noticed any significant bugs myself except for some things not being supported but I’m a developer so you should t encounter that many issues. TL;DR You should be fine if you’ve got okay specs.

at least the 2012 mbp is reliable, unlike my 2016 which randomly doesn't charge, randomly doesn't work without being plugged in, and randomly gains battery percentage unplugged. My old 2012 mbp had no problems. 2012mbp ftw! Just give it an SSD, and you're off to do whatever you do on a macbook! I do feel you in how long older macbooks take to wake up though, it's painfully slow

@@akiraalder Lol don’t get me wrong it’s been a workhorse the last 9 years. I switched out the ram & ssd first chance I got but it’s just dated now. I’m using an iPad Pro for most tasks but I still have to dust off the mbp for photoshop & Lightroom until they port full versions & even then the m1 Mac mini looks too good to pass up.. it served me well though

Thank you, thank you! I am relatively "new" to the Apple ecosystem and purchased a used 2015 MBA in mint condition in 2019. I was going to upgrade to a 2019 MBP, but after watching your videos about the sub-par butterfly keyboards, I decided to go for the M1 and the magic keyboard. Plus, I discovered that Apple will still give me a few bucks on my 2015 MBA towards the purchase of a new device!

I got the base Mac Mini a few weeks ago and I like it a lot. The only issue I've been having with it is that Photoshop crashes a lot, but I am sure once they build a native app, it will get a lot better. I had a first generation butterfly keyboard, it was horrible. I ended up selling it because I didn't want to deal with it anymore. Glad to see they finally got rid of that design.

@@helloukw when did he say it has twice the execution units? I must have missed it. But anyway, when he says that the only reason someone could pick this up over the M1 MB Pro is it it was cheaper, which is not entirely true. He could've benchmarked the graphics like he always does with Unigine Heaven. When talking about the 16' benefits he only says that x86 has better support. I enjoy Luke's videos a lot because of honesty, but he sounds very biased in this one.

Can’t stress enough how much we LOVE our M1 MBA - as we still do our iPad Pro 2018. First-gen products both. Hardware > software at the time of purchase. Ecstatic since we do not feel like upgrading at all - for iPad and MB - before at least 5 years as opposed to 2-3 years respectively before those came out.

I just got a Mid 2014 MBP/16GB/1TB NVIDIA graphics SSD and it runs super hot and fans blow loud! Took it for repair, replaced paste and supposedly needs new motherboard. Does the 2015 run hot too? Wondering if the AMD is better than IRIS. Planning to do light graphic design and music prod. thx

Curious to get your thoughts: So I’m a PC user. I own a late 2019 Razer Blade Advanced 2080 Max Q with 32gb of RAM. I love that I can connect it to a monitor. Similarly, I work for an agency who uses Apple for Motion and Final Cut. I’m considering getting an Apple but want something with major RAM for After Effects, Premiere and maybe Blender. If I want to be able to use same monitor, would you suggest iMac Mini intel with 64 RAM or wait for a later Mac Mini Pro “🤞🏽”. Feel MBP is too damn expensive.

Love your channel, but I stayed with Intel, and bought a new MackBook Pro 16 for video editing. It's rendering speeds are impressive, but i have one huge BIG problem. This laptop has no SD card reader, and I've purchased two of the donkey's but my APPLE will not read or open up the video footage! I've had to load and edit on a 12 year old IMAC, save it and then use the MacBook to upload to RU-vid. Can you recommend a FIX?

I bought the 16GB RAM MBA with 500GB of storage to replace my ageing mid 2012 MBP that was fully upgraded to 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD, so far the transition has been smooth, apart from Bluetooth issues that was fixed in a recent update, everything else has been fairly standard.

Ha dude, I run the exact same model and mine literally died yesterday. I cannot be without a computer for days, never mind months, so my plan to wait for the M2 powered iMacs has been somewhat blown up. I've opted for an M1 MacBook Pro and an external screen. I just couldn't bring myself to invest in an Intel powered Mac at this point, still, I'll be jealous when those inevitable M2 and bezel free iMacs drop. :)

That is what I am contemplating right now. I rarely travel anymore. So a Mini + thunderbolt 4 dock + SSD, looks great for a daily driver. Especially when all of it is under $2,000
