I Used Off The Record To Fight My Ticket ... And Lost

I decided to fight my speeding ticket using the Off The Record app. Off the Record claims a 97% success rate and offers a money-back guarantee if you use them to fight your traffic ticket and lose. Seems like a no-brainer right? Well, it turns out that their definition of "success" might not match up with what you or I might call a win. They'll consider my case a success, even though I feel like I lost. Did I get scammed?
In case it's not clear, I am not sponsored by Off The Record or any other company or law firm that fights traffic or speeding tickets. This is an independent review and I am paying for services out of my own pocket.

This is 100% a win. There isnt any points on your license. Your insurance rates didnt raise. Yes you had to pay the fine but you dont have anything on your record...

Your ticket is literally “off the record”. This is 100% a win regardless of cost. It’s not called “you won’t have to pay your ticket”.

They are full of shit. Literally same exact ticket for the same exact thing. Not only did I lose but the lawyer didn’t tell me the case was concluded, thus my ticket went into collections and I forfeited being able to do traffic school. Ticket was issued late May, 2022. I hired them in April. He pushed trial back to December. He got the judgment but never told me, never answered my update requests. Not until I got a collection letter in April of 2023. He claimed he’d take care of it and get it out of collections. He lied. Refunded my money for the inconvenience and said he’d still take care of getting it out of collections and not to pay anything. I racked up maximum penalties. Finally today Of The Record contacted and said I could go to the court and pay the ticket of $556 and then be granted traffic school. They lied. Court said I forfeited traffic school as soon as the ticket went to collections. Now my insurance that renews next month has the ticket and has gone up $110 dollars a month. Off The Record is not taking responsibility for the lack of communication and shitty representative they employed. They blocked my number after asking me to supply proof of the insurance rate going up. Lawyer closed the case and now I’m left in so much worse shape than before this crap company and shit lawyer. Never hire them. Mark my words. You can go into court and speak to the judge yourself and get the same thing they do done for free and know exactly where you stand.

I hired off the record to take care of a ticket in may of 2023. The lawyer assigned to my case ignored the ticket and court dates. I ended up getting a point and that point is now going to cost me $800 a year from my insurance.

Did you dl app? There is a message center. Also if he ignored you then you call off the record...did you do that? Sounds like to me you just started it and didn't follow up. No way otr and the lawyer are going to both ignore you. if you called them and explained the lawyer was ignoring you.

@@morri5rich515 of course I called. They have blocked me at this point. They just refunded my money when I told them, they should of offered a new lawyer but they didnt. Customer service was pathetic. Anyways my claim is with the state bar for lawyer abandonment. Once that is finished I will hire another lawyer and sue both otr and the lawyer.

It was a win based on my books. If you have fought the ticket alone you would not have gotten traffic school after the officer appeared. If your speed was less and you were entitled for traffic school and you could not get a refund from OTR then I agree that’s a bummer. If you are eligible for traffic school fight the case yourself. If not eligible for traffic school, an attorney is beneficial. Don’t feel bad you got your moneys worth with OTR.

I'm glad I watched your video. I just got a ticket and a buddy referred me to this app. In the past, I have always used a local traffic attorney who enjoys a very good reputation for success. She charges a $350 flat fee (offtherecord charges $110 in my area). Very tempting to go with offtherecord... However, after watching this (and conducting other research) it appears their only "strategy" is as you describe - hope the officer doesn't show. Hell, I can do that myself. I went with my usual attorney. She is very adept at reviewing the specific case for any "gotchas" that will require dismissal before even going to court. Failing that, she actually works with the prosecutor and/or the court to plead to some monetarily equivalent non-moving violation, which serves to both keep it off your record and to avoid traffic school. This is what I am looking for in a traffic attorney. Not some hope and a prayer that the officer won't show.

If you have a good attorney already lined up, definitely go with her! She sounds like she knows what she's doing and will get you a better result.

That’s some bullshit. Anyone who’s been to court a few times knows they give traffic school and fee reduction by default. I mean if it sounds too good to be true, that’s because it is. But hey, you didn’t have to show up in court, so that’s a plus.

yeah, that's a good point. But that's why I am not that angry about paying OTR and the attorney -- they did the work, they went to court and I didn't have to. I went myself years ago and got the same result on my own, but nowadays I have less free time and would rather not have to take a day off from work just to appear in court for something like this.

oh that sucks... what county was it? Mine was Alameda County and I was able to pay it online. I would think they would make it as easy as possible to pay it, that's the one thing that they'd want you to do.

@@86drive86 probably... it was 280 around san mateo, looked up the case but lost interest because I moved out of the north bay... it's miserable there... I have a v6 in my mr2 now and it's legal...

I'm planning on fighting my ticket in Logan County, OH. The problem is no attorney will touch it, there are no pre-trial negotiations. This means any of those apps will not work for this court and only one attorney said he would even represent, but he was booked up. I made several phone calls to see if anyone would represent me. One attorney told me most attorneys will not touch cases with this county because they would make a deal with the prosecutor only to have the judge just disregard the deal completely. I think I have a descent case but I don't think I will be represented by the time I get to trial. I will be making a video about this here soon at the end regardless of outcome.

When I was 18, I was caught speeding 70 in a 45 mph zone. I went to court by myself, plead guilty and asked the judge for a reduced fine, no points, and 5 hour traffic school. The judge respected my request and brought my fine down from $550 to $120 plus some court fees. I had to do an easy driving education class and got no points. Seems like Off the Record does the same thing I did as an 18 year old, lmao.

It's no secret, you can definitely do these things yourself. Off the Record, or really any attorney you hire, provides a service -- they represent you and appear in court so you don't have to. If you have the free time to go in yourself and do what you did, by all means do it. I did that also back when I was a student with more time than money -- I showed up in court and the cop didn't show up, and I got my case dismissed with no fines paid. Nowadays I don't have as much free time, so I (and others who use the service) hired someone else to do it for me.

Im waiting on another service to contact me before going with otr. I read the fine print and if my outcome is what yours is id be happy as it would be worth it in the end without getting dinged on my driving record and not having my insurance raised

Great video, but I would say you had somewhat unrealistic expectations from the beginning. Having a clean record at the end of all this is worth the $600+ in my book.

This is my first ticket, and first traffic violation. This really sucks. I was claimed to be going about 20 mph over the limit, but I was probably going about 10 mph over. My court date is very far in the future, and Off the Record is actually pretty expensive in my case ($360 was quoted). I don't want my insurance premiums to increase. Either way sounds like I will have to pay at the minimum $400 or more.. I likely won't go with an attorney, I don't have the money

if you have the spare time to go to court yourself, then try that... ask for an extension and push the date out. Then hope the cop doesn't show up and get an automatic win. If the cop does show, then ask for a fine reduction and traffic school from the judge. That is basically the strategy that my attorney used for me.

Bro everyone who goes into court gets their fine reduced… like if you just show up. Idk maybe I’m wrong but that’s what’s always happend with me. The fee on the ticket that people mail Is the maximum you can possibly pay… the “suckers” fee. Idk maybe I am wrong that’s what I thought as I’ve done this a number of times.

yeah I've said that if you have the time to go into court yourself, you should... using OTR or hiring an atty is the next best option, they'll go in for you. You'll definitely save some money if you go in yourself.

Well to be honest if you just paid it you would have paid $460 and got the point on your record and the point on your record is the worst part of it. So I mean you got to pay them some money because they did go to court for you and they got the point off your record which is the most important thing. And when you think about it they take $100 off your fine. That's actually not bad. I've been thinking about using this app myself. I might try it out I'm not sure yet. But I'm more concerned with the point on the record. They got the point off your record and normally they said that you're not eligible for school to get the point off your record That's pretty cool

Here in California, drivers who have received one point on their driver's license due to pleading guilty to a ticket can have the charges of the ticket masked and the point kept off their record by doing traffic school. You are only eligible for traffic school once every 18 months.

How about courts that have internal calendar where they set and cancel specific courts (civil/traffic/family) on the given dates/days. Give people tickets dates and when people show up, they just lost a work day for them to rescheduled after closing the court that date the people is given by mail paper delivery; no contact is done from court to the civilian to correct the issue and no type of “real option” is given. EXCEPT plead guilty, why would I do that?! I am new to your channel. And omg I’m so mad right now. I know I can fight myself because I actually have at least a handful of times self representase and paid usually a small-er fee and no charges/dismissed no points. Is like, I am my own off the record 😆 but I already lost two days of work that I get paid 1 1/2 pay rate to come to court and have court closed ?! I guess I’ll have to miss Tuesday again to come myself. I’m so mad.

Got my first speeding ticket ever in my stock 86 today haha... after 8 years of driving. I am thinking that I will show up in court missing a day of work, unpaid time off. I've been doing research and remembered seeing this vid. I suppose I will try to go for a fine reduction and traffic school.

Yep, if you have the time to go yourself, I think your chances are good, especially if you have never received a speeding ticket before, you will be eligible for traffic school.

I'm not really sure, it may depend on a bunch of things, like the offense(s) you're charged with, your region and what attorneys are available in that area. Where are you located?

wow I hate to say it, but unless you can find a cheaper attorney, it might be easier to just pay the fine and ask for traffic school if it's not already available. I wouldn't pay $1000+ to fight a $200 ticket unless you've got a bunch of prior tickets and this one would wreck your driving record.

Also, they would do this people MORE than likely the courts don’t like these type of services, because is helping us “for mad cheap” compared to a basically flat rate of around $600 across the board. Private, bar association and anyone on the first two pages Google gave me. Most I got was $795! From a private lawyer!! I said “$795 is not realistic to the job you have to do, is not even going to take you 20 minutes to jump on the video call”. Because he had “connection” with the court and he guaranteed his DISMISSAL!! He said it will!! But you are short sided!!! I feel like now this lawyer will make this difficult for me and I think I should document this!!! Please help!

@@86drive86 I dont care about those, because I’ve gotten 20 plus tickets and have a clean record, even after a 140mph and 100mph ticket, the price for fees and lawyers is the yearly membership I pay to be able to drive my sport cars the way they were meant to be driven 😄 If you’re not ganna accept that then sport cars aren’t for everyone.

I have used them 3 times. I have a CDL. Not one on my license. Got 2 dropped completely. You should have went to jail for reckless driving.

Just got my first ticket I hydroplaned into grass and I got a failure to reduce speed to avoid accident, this is my very first ticket after 3 years of driving I’m only 22 my insurance is already crazy high and my car is kinda totaled, it was raining and I hit a patch of water but It was a singular car accident (just me ) , what are the chances this ticket gets expunged from my record for this being a first time offense?

Wow that sucks to hear, can't believe they gave you a ticket for that when the damage was bad enough. I would definitely consult with a traffic attorney about it, since it's your first time offense hopefully you could get it dismissed or reduced to a lesser charge. Best of luck to you.

I ran a stop sign it wasn't intentional but I was basically a van hit me like just by the skin of my bumper, he didn't try to avoid me in anyway if anything it almost seemed like he speed up. Like he didn't have to do a major move either, he could have moved an inch over he would have missed me. Any how's he street was a 25 mine didn't have a speed but it was residential which is anywhere from 25-35mph. So I stoped got out ran over the guy he had the small think on his front bumper and did a number on the side back of my bumper it was just a tiny piece he hit that just kinda messed up a sensor. So he called his company they called the police No one was hurt or injured, the cop got there I felt so guilty that I said I ran the sign and it was my fault and the cop gave me a ticket for running a stop sign even though she wasn't there just going off of what I said, that particular intersection has issues, idk I've never ran a sign before I've never done anything bad been driving since I was 16 with a license I'm 21 got my CDL a couple of months ago. I had so much on my mind discrimination at work I quit and was coming back from a job interview. So I didn't realize that the officer was going to give me a ticket or that u could get one for they weren't there. So that's what's upsetting me, insurance is so much already, my car i know the price is going to be steep. so I paid the fee for off the road but I'm scared it won't work how was ur case did u win or?

@@preciousbey bro I didn’t even submit/ pay the ticket , I let it be, called cook county 30 days later and they said they didn’t even know i got a ticket , so I guess they just threw the ticket out without me knowing . So I didn’t need this or anything else

I think you mean he read my speed on a radar gun. Regardless, as I mentioned in the video the " legal strategy" seemed to be primarily to appear at trial and hope that the officer doesn't show up. If he doesn't, then it's an easy automatic win. When he does show up, as he did in my case, that's when the attorney representing me had to do some negotiating to get my fine reduced, and request traffic school.

For sure, that part of the promise was kept, they kept this speeding ticket off my record haha. But I went into it with higher expectations and didn't come out happy with the results so I wanted to share the whole experience so others know what might happen.

@@supremekingowl9350 I'm in California and I have never heard of a limit on the number of times you can take traffic school. Maybe in other states there is a limit but I don't think there is one here.

I didn't but I've heard that is an effective way to beat a ticket. I haven't tried it before but maybe I would in the future if I'm fighting another ticket.
