I been having this laptop since day one that it was released and honestly works beautifully with me . Screw the screen wobble you’re not supposed to mess with it after opening it only time I touch the screen is when opening and closing it . Battery no issues for me I use it connected rarely without. Still using 16ram n no complaints
I don't get why every RU-vid laptop reviewer gets obsessed about how wobbly the screen is (or not). (Not just this guy.) Who cares? Why are you snapping and flicking around the screen? Do you have ADD and can't help fidgeting with the screen or something? You just open your laptop lid, let it sit there, and use it. Even if your typing is somehow violent, it won't make the screen wobble. THAT'S IT. There, no more wobbling. Was that so hard? It just makes me question the rest of the review, if that's what you need to focus on at first, that's all.
"let it sit there" What's the point of getting a laptop if you're just gonna let it sit there? Being able to move it around conveniently is the whole point of getting a laptop.
I've owned a Aorus, Legion Pro, Rog Strix, Dell G15 and while there's plenty of (other) complaints I have, none of the others touched my Omen's reliability, consistency amd aesthetic/physical choices (thermals/locations/port selection+placement /the logo/matte everything, keyboard+layout). This is AFTER I sent it in for repair, which was a strange, cold process, but pretty quick... whatever they did made it S-tier
Hey. Which Omen do you own? I would like to know its GPU and CPU. Also, can I ask you why you sent it to repair? I sent mine too for a coil whine coming from the left fan and they didn't fix it. They replaced the fans but problem still occurred, so I returned it to the shop.
@@Keikai_Akagi I got the Ryzen 5 5600h, 3060 off their website last yr for 1199. I just had some scratches on the top (they replaced topcase) and some of the lights were going out, and it was running hot and some other small things so I sent it in before the warranty ran out and they sent me a list of like 15 things they did
Nice review.I think The hardest thing in the world is choosing between Omen 16 and Legion 5 11800 with the same specifications. In Iran, both prices are close to the same, but no one gives a correct guide as to which one to choose
@@namamzx7972 the omen 17 3070 can benchmark just as high or higher (comparable) to the legion 5 pro/legion 7. I think the legions have better build quality. For me, it comes down to if you want a 17.3" screen, or the brighter 16" 16:10 screen of the legion with better hinges
This review was excellent! I'm currently using this laptop (11th gen with the 3070, if that matters), and this video sums it up. Is it the best-performing gaming laptop on the market? No. But it performs just a bit worse for hundreds of dollars less. Is it the most aesthetically pleasing with the highest build quality? No. But again, it is a solid build with a much cheaper price tag. It all comes down to how much you want to spend on a laptop and how long you reasonably think you will be using it. If you're rich, have a large budget, or need your laptop to last an insanely long time, don't buy this model; pay the extra cost and get higher quality. But for the rest of us, this laptop is incredibly cost-efficient and powerful. If anyone's interested in some perspective on the performance of this laptop, it runs about as well as a regular desktop 2080. My highest 3dMark Time Spy score was 10800, which, from my experience at least, means it can run any game I've tried at 1440p ultra settings. This laptop is a beast for what it costs.
I got the omen 16, with the 11th gen i7 and 3060, and i love it a ton, got it pretty cheap used at around 900 dollars, and honestly don’t regret it, since the guy who had it before me took excellent care of it and barely really used it. It’s sorta heavy, but after a while i got accustomed to it’s weight since i changed from a 13’ dell laptop that was so bad that it struggled to even open Minecraft, and was mostly reserved for school work. It’s now the most powerful machine i own, over my 1660 in my pc, and i’m thinking of using it instead of my pc, until i can get a 3080 or a 3070ti and a fresh new pc build. Honestly i love design of it, and it makes me happy every-time i open it, the speakers are great, gaming is smooth, and the display is sharp.
im planning to get either hp victus 16 (i7 11th gen 3060) or hp omen (i7 11th gen 3060). the victus is 20% cheaper but the screen wobble is annoying. should i get omen or victus?
@Vanquish the graphics on the laptop are amazing, everything looks great and all the games i’ve played are insanely smooth, though i did turn down the settings for gaming performance reasons (no because the laptop couldn’t handle it.) I believe you could record high quality videos on this, it can handle editing and a bunch of stuff i’ve put it through, but I haven’t done streaming and recording on it yet since it’s in my dorm room. In addition you have to have it plugged in because that’s just how gaming laptops works, performance is best when it’s plugged in.
Hi BEN, love the content but there are a few things you should know about the HP OMEN, I have the OMEN 16.1 with an I7 11800h and rtx3060 with the 1440p display, the screen wobble is still there but the rest is way better and not at all the same as yours, the colour accuracy is perfect, think its 98% dci-p3, I do have advanced optimus, so I can switch between the iGPU and DGPU, my battery lasts on average around 6-7 hours working. I suggest specifically stating what model you have with the specs at the start of the review so people know the discussion points are specifically for the model you have and not the whole range, or after making each point, state that they can get the better option if they go for the other models.
I have the same model but I cant switch between gpus and I only get 3hs max only difference is I have the 17.3 inch version. You are entirely right about stating models omen covers a few years and makes of models, which can get confusing.
The vid overall is well made but imo when showing benchmarks you should keep the variants in decesending order of specs rather than sorting by performance. It's just easier on the eyes and saves the viewer from having to find the model they're interested in
Pretty sure you can force iGPU in the bios. Also with mine, I repasted the GPU and CPU on my 11900 and 3070 and the thermals were much better. I chose this laptop because it had 130w 3070, and was on sale for 1300 from 1800. It’s one of the best gaming laptops I’ve used.
@@nana70 Still holding up nicely. I've heard they have overhauled the cooling on the new models. The only time I run into trouble is Battlefield 2042 because it optimized horribly but still runs okay at medium settings.
is repasting risky? I've never done it before, but the laptop I'm considering buying is probably over a year old, and I'm worried that the paste may have dried up...
I have an Omen 17 that I upgraded to 64GB RAM, I’m upgrading it to 4TB SSD that’s about it. Battery life I could probably squeeze 2 hours max. It’s very discrete looking but it sure packs enough punch.
@@Saito9IV yeah I need something that’s mobile without being too flashy. Well I qualified for employee pricing so I got an Omen. 64GB was a no brainier for me as well since it was an easy swap. Initially I have 16GB then swapped that to 40 (8+32) it just wasn’t enough for me so I went to the most I can put to a laptop. I only have the RTX3060 since I only play Forza so not really heavy on gaming and only play that game once or twice a month now, if I was heavy on gaming I wouldn’t even consider Omen for I’d have gone with Alienware. Omen for me is the right balance with everything.
@@1234567890ZETA solid choice. I went 3070 on mine since I have the qhd screen. Totally worth it. And performance is pretty much identical between omen and Alienware and mechanical keyboard superior on omen IMO all secondary function lit and no ringing sound from the key strokes with a very similar feel overall
@@Saito9IV there were just a couple windows updates that messed with the functions in my laptop but after tweaking the features it worked just fine. Maybe later on I’ll upgrade the SSD memory once more but right now with the 64/4 pair I have I’ll be set for a long while. Yeah the keyboard and RGB I really love with these laptops, I have an Omen 15 2019 version prior to this.
I bought the HP omen, I love the design with the blue diamond on the back, it's beautiful and even more beautiful than the apple logo. The laptop works very well but I agree that the temperature of the ryzen mad cpu is sometimes a bit too high but otherwise the laptop is perfect
i've had the 2020 model with ryzen 7 and overall it's a solid laptop except for some quality issues. those being the hinge which got a lot stiffer overtime, some issues with the display panel (noticeable vignette around the edges and wavy artifacts at the bottom third). also the paint on the keyboard deck seems to fade away overtime where your hand rests. I use the laptop intensively.
I have the Ryzen Omen 15 and it’s a power house for massive photo editing tasks. I have even edited and colour graded a DCP export video for cinema viewing. Yea it’s loud and could be more comfortable as a form factor it just works. I take it all over the world with me bang it quite a bit and it still looks brand new. Still on 16g RAM btw
The problem involves static built-up under the pad. A design flaw. There is a simple solution do it yourself posted on reddit that you can do it yourself if HP refuses to fix it.
I have HP omen x16 Creamic white intel core i7 11 gen rtx 3070 its totally great smooth working high speed rendering in after effects its full filled my need !!
I bought the HP Omen 17 ck000 this past Black Friday, didn't get it till January. After 3 days it broke, and spent these past 6 months waiting for it to get fixed after several delays, then for a replacement, and now currently awaiting my refund after several more delays for the replacement. Great laptop I bet, but after this nightmare I'm not dealing with HP again...
I don't know about 2021 or 2022 models but it seems that all the 2020 hp omen models have the same speaker. So even if u buy the most most expensive model it will have the same sound quality as the cheapest model.
I had a Omen 16 with a RTX 4070 and Intel-13700HX (2023) version and the laptop went blackscreen and keyboard unresponsive after 6 months. Allegedly there is a design flaw in the motherboard, which exposes a capacitor and another part to overheat and short out after 5-10 months. Fortunately I still had warranty time so was able to swap to a different laptop.
i have the HP OMEN 16-b0340nd i7-11800H 16 RTX3060 and i gotta say, its only used for school. When i put the OMEN MODE to performance it just goes beserk. When i just install a game, open chrome or whatever the temps go to 90+. without doing a single thing. So when i just put it in ECO its cool as hell, great for CAD designing etc. But i kinda wanna game on it to, because its build for it. Now i have it for almost 2 yrs and warranty is almost over, since school is over and dont need it for a long time im considering just trying to get it fixed or sum idk. And the touchpad is fckd for al the 1.5 yrs i own it. I just use a USB plugged in mouse since its just doenst get better with the updates.
I love mine! The only thing I hate about the laptop is that I need to have it plugged in at all times. I can barely do anything in lightroom for photo editing, no photoshop, no premiere pro, no after effects, ect. I would've bought a macbook pro with the m2 chip, but my dollar stretched a bit more performance wise with this Omen. Happy nonetheless, just wish I didnt have to be tethered to the wall outlet.
My Omen is a piece of crap and despite having “global” warranty, HP told me that they couldn’t fix my display in any other country except from where I bought it.
My i9 one isn't charging. I got it in December. Also the trackpad sometimes starts highlighting everything. If I close the lid and open it then it goes away.
@@haroonasif5465 So it seems. Best Buy replaced the battery, mono, and trackpad. I haven't used the 280W charging brick it came with since. I use a 90w HP one now but I can't charge it while using it with only 90w. I can't seem to find the 280W one for sale in the U.S. And, it's like $200 from foreign sellers. You have the 2022 i9 Omen 16.1" by any chance? I think it's exclusive to Best Buy.
@@haroonasif5465For sure. It seems HP doesn't have that specific charger available though. I ended up buying an HP-branded one from a seller in the UK but it's Chinese owned to I doubt it's not a knockoff like those on Amazon. This laptop has been a headache to me.
Great honest review, Ben you nail it. What I love about your videos is you are not pretentious and you really dig deep into the laptops you are reviewing. I have to say another thing, the fact you still use a windows device as well as your team uses windows devices to edit is awesome. Most other channel review windows devices and then use Mac (they even place Mac on another pedestal to their audiences) and this makes other channels just hard to believe. You on the other hand are honest and actually use the devices and OS's you review. It's really releiveung to see someone just tell the truth with a really honest viewpoint on the subject. Keep on rocking it!
I really appreciate your thoughtful and insightful comment! I like to know why my channel is valuable to my community members (like yourself). Thank you for the support!
i use hp omen 15 laptop 1.5 year and now screen flickering problem. I have call hp support but It didn't help me hence I suggest you don't buy omen series

We are a non-profit who now have no laptop or means to replace this one for a more reliable and better quality brand. Nice laptop but I don't like the screen flex and wobble. Another great review ! I will just stick with the Lenovo Legion 5 that I'm going to win from you! 🎉 C'mon 100k🎉
@@markfogel3682 not hinge failures per se, the screen felt dangerously wobbly as if it was loosely connected to the hinges and moving the monitor lid up and down had it wobble a little and move with some tension and wobbliness
@@Itsshaunbewarned cool thanks, just trying to decide whether to buy it or not as it's the most affordable laptop with a decent screen in the UK at the moment. Anything else with similar spec is at least 20-30% more expensive. Would you say the hinges are a deal breaker? Some reviews says the build quality is decent apart from the hinges design.
there is more then 1 place to do it he just has not fiquired it out problem wiht these young kids they dont under stand tech as well as they make you believe they do
I have the same machine as you, the only think I do not like and can not solve yet is the battery drain even when turned off, have you experience this?
I own the HP Omen 017 and I don't like the touchpad, too heavy, cord to big, keyboard is ok, does not hold a charge no time it is always plugged in and if unplugged it lags bad I even sent in for repair because of this and they said nothing wrong I have owned Hp laptops long time I don't think I will ever purchase another it is the worst looking for new gaming laptop now and will give this to my son
Im very curious: How is it possible that asus g14 scores 60% better than legion 5 in solidworks? 60% is a massive difference. Even more if we take into an account that legion is a much bigger machine and can utilize more wattage (power) both for cpu and gpu.
I think, but I'm not sure, that it has to do with this thing called "amd advantages", I saw that both the cpu and the gpu are from amd so I think that's it
Personally I think the hp omen is better. The G15 has been reported to have some issues. Additionally Omen is HP's premium gaming lineup while Dell's G series is more of a budget gaming lineup.
Hi Ben thanks for the great content. I am looking for a laptop strong enough to handle 4k editing in DaVinci Resolve, more concerned with power and performance than screen colors. I have a 2000.00 budget for the laptop & 600.00 for a monitor, your thoughts? Thabks🙏
Hey i bought a new omen 16 - i7 14700hx with RTX 4070 8gb graphics card- its brand new from HP however, the battery life normal usuage lasted 1 hour and 30-40 mins and light gaming 1 hour and 15 mins is this normal?? I returned the laptop and got another replacement brand new from hp and still the same, it has 165hz display and im trying to understand if its normal or faulty, the laptop both came without charge upon opening the box i had to charge it to run it initially
i bought my omen 16 today .But in my omen hub there is no 'GRAPHICS SWITCHER' OPTION IN MY LAPTOP. SPECIFICATIONS: intel i7 12th gen rtx 3050ti 16gb ram 1tb ssd
be carefull in buying this product, the heat sensor is kinda garbage so if your gaming on this please put full blast when ever gaming, it killed my own omen 15 and also has power draw issue and it has no protection on power surging.

Hi, thanks for this video. I have a question. I want to buy a new laptop. but I can't choose between Asus fa507re and HP Omen 16. Omen 16: Cpu: intel i7 11800h, ram: 16 gb, ssd: 512 gb, graphic: Nvidia 3060 (6 gb). FA507RE: Cpu: Ryzen 7 6800h, ram: 16 gb, ssd: 1 Tb, graphic: Nvidia 3050 ti (4 gb). which one is better? which one do you recommend? I don't play a video game with laptop, (I play with PS4) but I'm mining engineer and I need to design copper mine or salt mine with Datamine Studio software and etc. So I need to render of more data. On the other hand, I watch much movies and I use the Photoshop software. then I need to have a high quality of screen. please help me to choose correctly.
There is a class action lawsuit going on. They are selling computers with defective trackpads. Only current solution is fn+f11. Seems to be a hardware issue.
In 2020 intel chip ran hotter than ryzen because the cores got smaller but were closer to eachother. So it created more heat at a single point instead of diffuse heat on a wider area (easier to cool) Maybe intel made a wider area than ryzen now for the chips. (I'm only guessing, but it's an explanation of why there can be heat difference)
Hey Ben, I'm getting Legion 5 Pro (Ryzen 5800h / rtx 3060) for $1550 and the latest Legion 5i Pro (i7 12700h / rtx 3060) for $1850. Is the extra price worth the performance bump ?
Tuf F15 is the better option according to me, with RTX 3060 and 140 W it would deliver a great power for gaming than the RTX 4050 with 100W. But if you are a traveler then Omen would be better i guess. Reminder: It's just my suggestion !!!

Please please please help as i am in a great dilemma bw gaming laptop and mba m1 Does the dedicated gpu matters too much? But i will lose the portability and battery life of the mba Please help
If you can, check what people use most, both professors and students. I mean macbook air or any window laptop with i7 will be enough for school stuff, you will not even going to need dedicated graphic card. But there will be a lot of annoying things if you are not use to mac or window, so chose carefully between OS. In my case because of many bugs and computability issue with my tablet driver, I can’t use mac. And in case of video editing if you can or really think you will use final cut pro buy a macbook, however if you like using premier pro or davinci resolve just get a window laptop with 3060 or higher graphic card. It will be so painful to use non-apple program in apple’s silicon chip.
@@minseokwon6484 thanks for thr reply. But however, a gaming laptop rarely provides with 2 hr of battery life after a year. Moreover, windows laptops are just useless bricks while unplugged for heavy tasks. The portability of the mba is exceptional. But as you said with the software issues. Ive heard a lot of concerns regarding it Can you please elaborate on problems with mac os
@@pradyutfogla4624 Apple OS and Windows are two completely different systems. If you don't know either yet, try to find someone where you can play around with the computer a bit to find out what suits you better. If you don't have any experience with computers yet - or only very little - I believe that Apple is easier to learn and use, plus you get a lot of production software included in the OS, which you may have to buy separately for a Windows machine. Windows is generally more customizable, offers a broader selection on both hardware and software, and is mostly significantly cheaper than Apple. I started working with computers on Apple gear in the late 80s, but switched to Windows in the late 90s, mostly because most of my clients and colleagues worked with Windows as well. Today I stay away from Apple because of its policies of denying right of repair and its tendencies to control the computers they sold and what software is used on them. Having said this, an Apple M1 laptop is much more powerful than a Windows RTX 3050 laptop, and it is much more portable than an Omen by far. Nevertheless, if everyone besides you uses Windows software on their computers, collaboration might be very difficult and in some instances even impossible, when you are the only one with an Apple and all the others use different software than you can use.
@@Dahrenhorst thanks for the reply. It covers most of my concerns. I am thinking of going for the apple mba because of its portability. Comparability wont be an issue as most of the students already use the mba air for their work. I was more concerned about the hardware aspects but the mba is better value for money along with great portability. Again, thank you for the reply.
Does it have an indent reaction when you tap the bottom of it? It's standard for the Omen. Do you experience random jittery issues with the touch pad? Another issue that affects all their Omen laptops.
