Not sure if you've already explored this, but if you visit a local garden centre, you might be able to negociate a discount for your project. You could also offer to post small signs to help promote the business as well as a win win for you and them.

Love this project! As a young gardener myself, it's nice to know I'm not alone in the obsession with plant centres 😁 If you want cheap plants, little plant stands that people sometimes have in their front garden are great! Also, get friendly with a local gardener who does private gardens cause there's always stuff that needs splitting or the client doesn't want anymore

I was born and brought up in Ashton (near the city ground) in the 60s and 70s. Back then every house had a front garden in which the owners took pride. Now when I return and run down my old street every garden has been replaced with a tarmac car space with a badly parked car half way across the pavement and two overflowing black rubbish bins. It's ugly beyond belief so good luck!!!! The area certainly needs it.

Brilliant project. Definitely need more trees too. They don’t need to be massive, but they will cool underneath and get rid of water. Oh. Try and use seeds. Much cheaper x

Great project! Would be nice to see more of it. Maybe more about the choices for the specific plants, keeping the community active in their own mini-project, maybe also about which pollinators are spotted. Don't know how much nature content you'd want to put on here. I hope (and am quite sure you did) you bought plants which weren't sprayed with pesticides. Sometimes garden centres show the prettiest flowers, but they are covered in pesticides or provide nothing for native species. I believe they are starting with the moretresnow-project in the UK too. It's pretty awesome because they collect little trees, where they wouldn't survive anyhow, and replant them somewhere else. All with the help of many volunteers. Hopefully there will be such an event near you too this year. I can imagine the little tree taking up a bigger chunk of the budget. It would be just the tree that you would be saving in the budget, but hey, every penny counts, right?

I don’t know if you’ve thought about this, but gardeners tend to have lots of spare seedlings and plants (a charity where I live takes donations and sells them), so perhaps another community avenue is to have volunteers growing from seed-would save a fortune

What a fantastic project!! Bringing green spaces back to our cities and towns is always a worthwhile endeavor, for the lives of animals, and the souls of people! If you're able to do a fund raiser, I'd be happy to donate! Improvements to our planet help us all, even when they're half a world away. As far as compost, I'm guessing local horse farms would be willing to donate some composted manure?

Farm or garden where big cities grow trees and plants for parks and gardens. ( Sorry my french phone sometimes do strange corrections,..and i don't speak english so well)😮
