you could literally remove the first 9 chapters and the story would not change. Nothing you do in the first 9 chapters has any relevance to the story's end.
Just a warning to anybody reading this comment, this comment is LONG I definitely agree, this is by far the worst Final Fantasy game that I've ever played, and I'm glad to see someone say it, because all I've seen is people defending the game for whatever reason. The characters are bland, both in personality and character design (seriously? Just four people wearing normal looking black clothes for main characters?), and Noctis isn't at all a likable main character. Whenever a supposed main character died I didn't feel any emotion, mainly because the game gave me no reason to since a lot of characters that die are shown very little in the game. The story is somewhat interesting, but has so many plot holes that Square Enix had to make many spin off titles just to explain the whole story. You know you have a bad story if you have to make spin offs just to make the story make sense. The music in the game is very generic and unmemorable, I can only really remember a couple of songs from the game. As for the game play, personally I prefer the old turn based battle system (at least when I'm playing a Final Fantasy game) and was very disappointed to see a real time battle system, but I could see why they chose to use that system considering that most modern RPGs have a real time battle system and since some people think that the turn based battle system is outdated, however, I just couldn't enjoy this battle system. It just felt very limited, only being able to use one character and having most battles consist of spamming the circle button. Also, the new magic system felt completely useless. As for the exploring aspect of game play, this also felt very limited. Only half of the game is an open world game, and the open world section is very boring. It was small and only consisted of a couple towns and a bunch of gas stations. On top of that, there were a lot of places in the open world section that you couldn't go to because of obstacles like random fences. It didn't feel like an actual world, just a place meant for side quests (which it pretty much was). The side quests that you could do in the open world section were boring and repetitive, usually just consisting of beating a monster, which was also boring. For whatever reason, the second half of the game was linear, not quite as bad as FF13, but pretty similar. Why make a Final Fantasy game linear when the series was always established to be an open world game on much more limited software? Why make such a small and limited open world when we know that Square Enix is capable of much more? Why make unnecessary changes to the battle system that limits your abilities and makes the game feel like a spin off title rather than a mainstream title? Overall I was heavily disappointed and I'm glad to see that others agree.
The combat is just to boring and unfulfilling for a final fantasy game there is no magic just fancy grenades boring hold one button attack I found more depth and rewarding combat in ff13 lighting returns and i hate that game the most. Buy a load of healing items and you cant die. I just hope they never do combat like this again or atleast add depth to it
Im almost at the end of the game and the feeling is emptiness. I couldn't care less about Eos, Insomnia or Noctis. We didnt have any reason during the playthroug to be attached to these characters. The story is incomplete with no explanation on anything... Side missions so flat that is embarrassing call them side quests, specially if you consider the 10 years of development. Fetch dogtags and frogs? Really? Is that all Square could develop? I agree with you opinion from beg to end. Congratulations for saying so perfectly.
Im playing it now and feel the same. Im probably half way through and so disappointed. I dont even know if I want to continue. Its garbage. I couldn't care if everyone died. In fact I'd probably cheer and laugh and say thank fuck thats over.

Ive been playing since FF on NES. I havent enjoyed a FF game since 12.I want to like them, but the game just hasnt been showing up. FF was always part puzzle, part strategy, part story to me. It has just completely lost the entire feel of what they used to be.

Felipe Loera 12 is ahead of its time combat system wise. They could have implemented a gambit system. In 15 your three companions are all but useless. By the time they arent useless, the game is already over and you will obliterate foes anyway. Also there is no real threat in the game just hold x n wait. If you try to blitz in you get slapped to the ground. Oh and there is no quick recovery. you have to watch him get up all slow. Also wtf the game stops every time i use a potion. Its betterto leave your teamates dead in this game so as not to impede the flow of combat to a screetching halt.
As a Final Fantasy fan I hate this game so much. Just finished it today after 33 hours of gameplay. 33...I rushed through it because it was so painful. Even finishing a Final Fantasy game in that time frame is a crime in and of itself... I have no words. I want my fucking money back. I even rewatched Kingsglaive before starting it. I think the game had like 3 cgi cutscenes total and one of them was a dream sequence/trailer. CGI cutscenes were always like this awesome experience/reward growing up playing the FF games and to have them so terribly absent just made the world and the characters seem flat to me. There was no effort at a proper story. I was not invested in the characters at all. Just so disappointed. Lol.../cry
Felipe Loera I finished it in 111 hours. I would start playing and then fall asleep during the first car ride each time, then wake up with the console having automatically turned off after several hours. Chapter 1 racked up 22 hours with this pattern. This was standard operating procedure until chapter 9 when I actually dedicated time to it. Within about 4 hours of actual gameplay the storyline was done. I only spent AP on combat and once critical hit warp strike was purchased, I held R1 and Triangle for 99% of the remainder. Never used techniques outside of some early grinding. Triggered the chain attacks five times total, never summoned outside of storyline prompts. This game is shit. I feel like Square Enix owes me money for playing through the whole thing.
skunknfunk420 agree. Honestly, I had one epic moment and that was the first and ONLY time I summoned Ramuh in the story. Also, I played through the entire game without even touching the magic system lol...game was a bad joke. I get that people liking different things is subjective but this game had no fucking story. So in my book it wasn't a Final Fantasy game and not worth 10 years of so called game development. Square Enix are such a massive disappointment these days....
esquire eventrade The best part of FFxv is when ignus goes blind. Admittedly I was confused and slightly worried about him. Thinking maybe a flashback of him bravely saving a burning baby from a crazy imperial while dodging a bomb blows up in his face. But then noctis says oh your hurt. An they all move on. So I knew Ignus was not meant to be cared about. An thusbi became happy thinking maybe they will remove him from the pt thus making the game tolerable. I.e drive at night, and stop every second for recipaes! But he sticks around and we trudge through the rest of this crapper. 3/10

People that defend this game actually remind me of how people at one time used to defend Star Wars Episode I. A lot of people don't realize that when that movie first came out, people actually really loved it. They could not even conceive of the possibility that there could be a bad Star Wars movie.
Um, no it's actually considered to be the worst movie in the Star Wars series (at least before the new Trilogy, anyway). It's pretty much universally panned nowadays for its retcons and the fact that they spend half the movie building up a pod race.
I will never buy another Final Fantasy after experiencing this turd of a game Square Enix pushed out. The only redeeming quality of this game is that you can play music from the prior FF games. I put 80 hours into this game doing every mission/side quest hoping that there would be some redeeming quality besides the homage to the classic FF games. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and in fact I loathed Noctis. The movie and the Anime are supposed to give you some back story to the characters and plot development but both struck out in my mind. The last great FF was X, the last good FF was XII, and now we're left with Square Enix pandering to the younger generations who have a super saturated game market where you hack and slash and button mash your way to victory.
I purchased this game Friday last week and I've been on chapter 3 still because everytime I play I get VERY bored and nothing keeps me wanting to go forward unless it's a new upgrade for my car. I feel like I'm playing a MMORPG that I don't have to play for endless hours, that's I can come back a week later and continue where I left off and enjoy it.... but the "enjoy" part... I'm not so sure about.... I get on and I'm off in and hour... unlike others where I could play hours on end because the story kept me wanting to go forward. They had enough time to put a good driving story. Also the world is VERY empty. I felt like I was playing a beta test of a sandbox mmo with no enemy AI . I really hope they do a better job with the next one..
When the Dissidia games have an infinitely more compelling story than your AAA blockbuster that we've waited ten years for then you've got a problem. Dissidia is great though but I'd rather play through the grind of getting a party ready to fight Feral Chaos three times over than go through this shit.
I've bought this game one week after the release and I got bored of it within 7 hours. Battle system was boring, the characters suck, and story looked like trash. I gave it to my brother since he loves final fantasy and he called me back in 2 days telling me how much of a piece of shit it was.
I'm so glad you mentioned the word pace. Pace was everything wrong with this game. There's no story in any of the side quests. There's no story in the towns. there's no feeling of a war. the narratives of the people or emotions don;t change as the story continues. The story comes in and out so poorly. There's no plot. The open world is handled badly. The characters have no depth or motive.

It's a rushed mess made by stressed out developers with two different directors who wanted opposite things (Nomura wanted dark, mature, romantic type story, Tabata wanted more lighthearted friendship bro story). Square mismanaged this game so bad, they pulled the devs from Versus XIII throughout the years to work on 5-6 different games, then rushed the game out of the gate for a PS4 E3 announcement and fired the original director because the M rated dark game Versus was didn't meld as a main FF title.

SupremeFiredragon summons are situational. they are meant to help u and finish off the enemie. the gods u summon are massive and very powerful which is why u can't just summon them when ever cuz thatd be cheap. also you'd have to go threw a 20 second cut scene everytime u summon someone, so imagine having to constantly go through that over and over again whenever u summon .
SupremeFiredragon and u don't need to watch the anime to know what's going on in the game. the anime is just about how the 4 guys met. and it's only 5 episodes long. it would only help u find out how and why they met, that's it

Here's the thing. I don't think the game is boring. I think it was severely mismanaged. Because the gameplay was excellent. The STORY was absolute garbage. That's what killed it for me. When it comes to RPGs, story is as important of an element as gameplay (if not moreso).
The thing that makes it tragic is the concept introduced in the game's lore is a good one. But the execution is terrible. Getting funneled into a linear second half and forced to go through a hallway at the end on top of major characters dying offscreen really makes the game feel unfinished.
One example, and probably the one most people will get, is Ravus. For the first half of the game he is a major rival, who is overprotective of Luna. But then after the events in Altissia, he's executed offscreen as a scapegoat. You fight his corpse later, but it's a token battle with no character resolution.
It's because of Enix, how does nobody realise that as soon as Enix came on board, the titles went to SHIT. Now sure, some people will say, "well what about FFX? Enix was merged when they made it" ...BUT FFX was already halfway done by the time Enix came in so there really wasn't anything for them to screw up. SquareSoft is DEAD and i guess we just need to face that, and quit buying these trash titles. Square will never see another dollar from me and many of my friends feel the same way, it's not like we're alone on this, SOOO many people are done with SquareEnix....all they give are titles with amazing graphics, shit stories and shit gameplay.
And the worst part is, i was also a huge fan of Enix games long before the merger. SquareSoft and Enix were my 2 favourite development teams i mean, they did illusions of gaia, valkyrie profile, and star ocean...but those older titles were their best works, so after some crap titles, for some strange reason, Square merged with a team that quit producing quality titles. It's a shame they made that move, for whatever reason, reasons i wont care about because the titles ever since the merge have been rolling downhill fast. But this one has to be the worst. Magic is dumbed down and limited to equip, 90% of treasure items are only used to make better magic so looking for items is a bore, needing to go back to camp and sleep JUST to use experience points was a lame attempt to prolong gameplay, Summons were left out intentionally so we can wait for a DLC...again, to prolong gameplay. I can go on and on about how they ruined this game. It's like they tried to make an MMO with all of the redundant, 'retrieve this and go kill those' quests but forgot to add multi player lol. But whats worse, is us fans who have been asking for a remake for 20 years of FF7 can expect this kind of garbage. Sadly, as one of the hardcore fans who asked for it, i really hope they just abandon the remake of FF7 if this is what we can look forward to.
I don't know if Enix is the problem. I played FFXI from 2003 to 2012, and I loved the game. There was a ton of different stories, missions, quests, and content. I have many friends that are playing FFXIV today, and they love the game. If they can make great content for FFXI and FFXIV, they should also be able to make good content for FFXV. I think they rushed making FFXV without reviewing the game before the release. They probably make more money from FFXIV, and not care about FFXV.

Those titles you listed are Online MMO's so the system they're using works fine there, but the other titles after FF10 that are are not online are using the whole repetitive retrieval / kill quests meant for MMO type gameplay but they're doing it offline, without multiplayer. As for everyone using the excuse that the game was rushed, FF15 was planned out 10 years ago lol.
Yeah if you feel like this without even finishing the main story line, you really shouldn't finish the game. The second half is a royal mashup of junk. What happened to the story! What happened to the plot! If Kingdom Hearts 3 has the same short comings I will be taking a break from purchasing new games for a while. I'll just go back and play games from a time where companies produced coherent stories.

The tutorial does the game no favors. I remember bitching saying something like "Wtf is this FF or DMC!?" i mean this is more of a Kingdom Hearts game than a FF... i'm enjoying it, but i put it off for 2 years lol, precisely because i didn't like the way combat looked. I'm looking at Dragon Quest XI and it honestly looks closer to what i wanted from FF XV from the jump. I'm playing that next, but something tells me Dragon Quest is offering more to classic FF fans right now than... well FF...
ok, can someone please explain to me why everyone hates FF13's characters? And I don't mean explain why in the beginning they were hated. I mean explain why, by the end, they're hated. Because IMHO, by the end of the game, I thought the characters of 13 were pretty good. Every character had development and went from being hair pullingly annoying to feeling like friends I had known for a long time.
In the first game the characters were so wooden. They got better development in 13-2 and 13-3 but why they couldn’t do they in the first game is beyond me.
I tried to level up as much as I can to prepare the great battles ahead in every chapter. I was surprised that by the time I determined to embark on the real storyline after several hours of EXP farming, it only took me an hour to slide from Ch3 to Ch7. I hate to say that even in FFVIII, at least I tried hard to complete to each chapter that leaves me with memories. I don't have anything like that in FFXV. I do not want to admit that it is a disappointment cuz some part of me would always want to a new FF game. However, I am quite concerned about the future trajectory of this franchise. I'd rather saw a PS2 quality of image but with the real ffv13 storyline that I saw in the trailer 10 years ago. I do hope they have another FF game to prove we are wrong...
Ff15 is my first final fantasy game and I quite enjoy it. It's not the greatest game I have ever played but I enjoy it, I'm told it's shit compared to the others though
Knight Wolf Plays Nah man. 13 at the very least has a story that's executed a hell of a lot better. The paradigm shifting makes combat at least a bit more interesting rather than holding O and potion spamming. XIII was a complete game unlike XV.
Lesten Truth u can literally click one button in ff 13 that chooses the best attack u should do and u win. and also holding circle doesn't really do shit for u unless it fighting like the very first enemies. holding o just makes u do weak light attacks, especially with a great sword which when u hold o just swings left and right and that's it. if u time the button correctly u can do different, stronger hits and combos to be able to break limbs. but I by any means am not praising this game at all though

Everybody said FF XIII sucked but it still had that fantasy element and good FF music. This game didn't make you feel invested in the story or characters. The main characters models were good but they had bland personalities. And the mystery of meeting towns people and learning about the world was gone.
I agree with you 100%. There is a lack of stories in the game, and a lack of "character development". My favorite game is FFVII, followed by FFVI, then FFIV. I played FFIV when it first came out in 1991. I played FFXI from 2003 to 2012. In the old games, there is the main storyline with the main antagonist, then there are also "mandatory side stories" that reveal the past of each character. Those stories help us understand the characters in the game more. From that, it helps us get attached to the characters. The stories of the different characters help different "players" relate to characters in the game. FFXV lacks a storyline for the characters, therefore, we don't get attached to the characters. We just don't care. In older games, we usually are required to go to each city to complete the smaller quests. This gives us a reason to explore each town. FFXV lacks that. It is easily possible for us to beat the game without needing to explore all of the towns, cities, and areas. In the second half of the game, there was a lack of content. They tried to give us a ton of cutscenes, but those cutscenes failed to explain the story and failed to get us to care about the story. This game was geared towards noobs. They made the game too easy and too short. ________________________________________________________________ Here are some things that they can do to make the game better. 1. Make the game with a hard mode. 2. Make the "levels of the monsters" in the second half of the game adjustable to your current level. 3. Add more "mandatory side quests". Add more mandatory side quests that help develop the characters. Add more mandatory side quests that help the towns and cities. 4. Instead of requiring you to beat the game first before being able to access the end-game monsters, they should allow you to fight all of the end-game monsters before you beat the game. 5. They should have made Altissia open-world also, and allow you to travel back and forth between Altissia and Lucis. 6. They should have made the game longer, with more mini-boss battles. 7. They should have added more "Evil Villains", and allow more fights with those villains throughout the game.
sounds like you didn't watch the ff15 movie before playing the game. It gives you story critical info including the setting and character set up so your ready to play the game.
Knight Wolf Plays I agree entirely, but having watched it I do appreciate what they where trying to do. A multimedia narrative sounds cool in theory but it's a lot harder to pull off in practice and leaves the consumer open to missing key information if they didn't wanna waste time/money buying extra stuff to get what should have been a complete package to begin with :P
the plot is in the second half of the game the first half is just open world exploring. Also they explained who noctis's bodygaurds are and their motivations in an anime called ffxv brotherhood.
Problem is that these characters are easily the most uncompelling characters in any rpg and certainly the worst in FF. I find it hard to believe that people even care. Does anyone need to know anything more about Prompto? He and everyone else is an archetype. This game was shit for an ff game and a solid 7/10 for a regular game. I will say that I beat it which means i had to enjoy it at least a bit but the story is atrocious
Story was empty. When I finished the game I didn't care the least bit for any of the characters whatsoever. It was paced terribly. It didn't start to take off until chapter 9 and even then it was thrown at you so quickly that it felt tacked on. There wasn't enough drama. The open world aspect actually sucked. Big, empty open world with no change in scenery. Terrible side quests. The only thing I somewhat enjoyed was the battle system and even then I rate it as the worst battle system yet. By all accounts, FFXIII was better than this game. Linearity, annoying characters and all.
I understand your critiques completely. This is just the bones of a story with no real meat. Square fucked themselves by trying to feed us all the backstory through kingsglaive and brotherhood series. You NEED to watch both to have any fucking clue what is happening. And barely any clue at that. All these major plot, story, and character failures aside... I enjoyed this game. The most important elements are missing. No excusing that. This game is best when you just explore the world. The combat is enjoyable to me. Noctis feels like the badass from the original trailer. They nailed that aspect. The biggest mainstream complaint of FF13 was its linearity(I'm sure we both hated much more). Squenix over-corrected hard making the open world and side quest B.S. that has plagued 15. The story has the roots of greatness but it is so poorly presented I don't blame anyone for dismissing it entirely. I easily got my 40 dollars worth out of this game. It will keep me busy till KH and FF7.

FF15 is a 7/10 at best the main reason I was hyped for Versuse 13 was for the Story and Combat but when Tabata took over I read a lot of interviews from him a all they did was make me worry about the game he's now made the most bare story in FF history with FF15 and with a lot of characters being under develop it just kind of sucks. There will definitely be a FF16 since FF15 sold about 5 to 6 million copies in one year
One complaint I had about this game was how modern it was, i didn't feel like I was exploring a Final Fantasy world and doing hunts didn't feel special at all compared to FFXII, I was more interested in FF versus XIII tbh

I'm not sure many realize this, but the story for FF15 is not the same story they originally had for when it was known as FFvs13. They ended up scrapping the original story when the original director had to leave to help with KH3.

FF14 actually has a much better story than 15. It starts out really boring but once you get to season 2 it gets interesting, and the dlc's for it have an even better story than FF7. You just have to get past the first season (to where the credits role for the first time). FF15 has a terrible plot but decent gameplay. I do still have hope for the franchise because of the Stormblood dlc for FF14 (released in 2017, after FF15) which has an amazing story that I'd say is better than FF7.
This game is just fucking boring as shit. It's beautiful, but it's boring and restrictive, as far as open world games go. I just hit the final chapter and the nagas by the beginning are annoying as shit, so I went back to past Lucis in order to get some levels, but I don't think I'm going to be able to pull through. I think Kingsglaive is better than this game.
I wish I saw your video before I bought the game. I played Type 0 and I really enjoyed it, therefore I thought this game would even be better. I was wrong. I'm not giving Square Enix my money too soon.
Final Fantasy 13 had good characters but I hated the story I wanted the bad guys to win. And FF13 wasn't boring and I finished it ASAP, I had, I HAD to finish the game. FF15 WTF is up with the combat, is this Final Fantasy? Cindy is kinda cool. What other characters are there, I don't remember? The story sucked and the setting was pretty boring too.
the best way to describe this game is incomplete , there's no enough interaction between noctis and luna to make me care about there relationship cause all there was about it were cut scenes from there childhood , the summon sucks, cause it's interactive bullshit and can't be done whenever you want! , i mean i got more emotional response from ignis's blindness than the dead of luna wtf... , the bosses sucks, the final boss sucks even more, 10 yrs? are you kidding me square"|? i recommend square enix to buy the witcher3 the complete edition so they can learn how a rpg should be made again! wth anime brotherhood, kingslave and king's tale? concentrate in the damn game and it will promote itself god damn!! 10 yrs for this shit? i bought a fking ps3 for this game back when they announced versus, so damn disappointing!!!
When you get to the area where a NIGHT hunt is to take place, then you wait.. and wait.. and wait until dark because the sun just rose.. In Altissia it's the worst.. I'm getting to where I really do hate this game.
I watched a lengthy video awhile back about how FFXV could be improved, and I agree with most of what's on that video. However, I'd like to add one thing. Nix Kingsglaive. Make it non-canon, or an alternate timeline and just have your own intro for the game, instead of relying on supplementary material.
How about instead of the events of Kingsglaive, start the game with Insomnia being attacked? Noctis has to escape and Gladiolus is there helping him. Here we get the tutorial for combat and how to do different things, and the sequence ends with you getting in the Regalia and having a car chase out of the city.
It's a fun, exciting intro. It removes the need for supplementary material, and it sets up the world perfectly for the characters to start exploring and sets up Noctis' motivation. Noctis can then meet up with Ignis and Prompto in Hammerhead and the game can start proper.

You are not alone with regards to the games failings. The game barely provides a story worth caring about unless of course that's to come in via DLC. On another note, I don't get why you're going with just Razorfist's mention that only about 500,000 units of the game were sold in Japan. First of all, I don't recall any game made in or outside of Japan that sells beyond those kinds of figures outside perhaps Nintendo probably. Secondly, that number has increased by about an extra quarter million and probably will hit a million in the long run. Thirdly, all other reports I've read has stated the game has sold at least 5 million copies already which I'm sort of surprised of to be honest. Now as to whether all that will be enough for Square Enix's profit margin considering how long it took to make the game, that is another question. I'm sure they will need that 10 million unit figure I heard mentioned in an interview with one of the developers which I highly doubt they'll get. As for the franchise, I'm not even interested in FF7 remake even though I am a fan of the original. I'm not even sure I want Kingdom Hearts 3 which is saying a lot. I simply have no confidence in Square Enix anymore. They should stick to publishing games from now on as far as I'm concerned.

I'm with you. I've been posting all over they've ruined this game. they rushed it out, but out scenes of Luna because they didn't want to "offend" people because Luna got hit. they cut out so no many cutscenes that make the story incomplete, overall the game is incomplete. once you leave duscae its linear, that's just straight up depressing. we should be been able to fully explore more of altissia, more of the glacian area, more of the area on the way to the empire, actually be able to go to tenebrea, and more of the area of the empire, and for fuck sake, more of the dark world I mean wtf was that?! after wait I g through it all getting to the end it was WAY too short. the story is not finished period. too much remains unanswered and incomplete. we shouldn't have to guess what happens for the missing giant chunks of story. its so depressing.
and then there's the "endgame" stuff... c'mon they should be able to enter all of these extra "dungeons" which are lame as hell with no thought behind them and just seem rushed too. you should not have to go through an empty dungeon... going back in time was clearly an after thought.
the other thing that pisses me off is that they want to put out these DLC episodes for each of the characters, ignis, prompto, gladiolis. why? From what I can guess these dlc should've been inside of the game. make expainsions and fix the game, period. correct the missing parts of the story, Luna is basically a nonexistent character and if you just boot up the game and play through you have no clue what her story even is at all. bah so fucking depressing.
actually, if you eliminate all the first 9 chapters, the game will actually make more sense LOL. 1. find your bride - irrelevant 2. track down the royal arms - irrelevant because they are given to you by Luna and the ring. 3. Track down summons - had nothing to do with the story. So, if you scrap the first 9 chapters, you would still experience the game in the exact same way LOL Or, scrap the chapters from 12 onwards and actually take on the empire LOL

I think this game would've sucked a WHOLE LOT less if Enix didn't spread the whole story amongst both an anime and a movie. While it seemed cool at first, if you didn't watch any the anime or movie, you miss 85% of the character development and plot. You miss the backstory, the motivation, and even why the Empire is fighting in the first place!!! WTF ENIX?!? I personally blame Tabata, the man who probably didn't give a f**k about the game after Nomura left, didn't add to anything, or even know what FF is. God, this game could've been god-tier level in the game industry, but the story, THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE SERIES, suck complete DICK!!!!
It's almost like they've created caricatures of their characters which is super fucking weird, like they themselves are watching themselves play the game? As opposed to actually being involved the dialogue, which is weird...
This is not the game I've been waiting for. Looking back at everything they were building and alluding to in trailers and early interviews, this game was gutted from what it could have been. Having followed this game since Versus XIII days makes the final product one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had. The Open World was fucking mistake, and fuck Tabata for taking what people whined about wanting during development too seriously.

I played Final Fantasy VII through XII and I might want to give XIII (I played the first hours of it and got bored, but I wanna give this game another go) and XV a chance, but I don't know if I should, considering i just loved VII-XII like crazy (Especially IX, X, X-2 and XII) and how divisive these games are known to be, and to be so different from what made Final Fantasy 7 through 12 so great Would you recommend I gave this game to someone like me? (For the record, I played I and II for PSP but gave up on them quickly, played a good chunk of IV on PSP before it broke, and I never played V and VI)

FF15 is best game of the year in my opinion the story just needed more Exposition honestly there's too much important plot points in missable dialogue and articles I had to rewatch cutscenes to get what was going on.
I had the good graces of watching the movie & anime episodes. It helped *a lot*. I can see if you didnt see any of that, the story does seem crap. Either way, I enjoyed it. It was better than FFXIII... That had your precious linear "story" and it was crap. I know you're mad about the lack of definition, but you wouldnt be saying any of this, if you watched the other medias. I know "thats not the point! It's supposed to be in it!" Well tough... It didnt happen, because of fubar circumstances. Plus, you should play longer than what you did. You just got pissy, because the story wasn't handed to you on a silver platter. The game's not perfect, but it's at least playable. You make it sound like it's an abomination under the FF gods. The gameplay is fun, it gives you plenty to do, and the world looks beautiful. The story issue can EASILY be rectified by spending the time you WOULD HAVE SPENT on watching cut scenes, by watching the said medias I just mentioned...

I just remember telling myself, I just paid $80 to watch guys ride in a car. seriously 5 mins of gameplay and then 20 mins of riding in the damn car. rinse and repeat.
The music is generic as hell...not Yoko Shimomura's best. Weak ambient and atmospheric orchestra music that lacks any real hooks or melodies. Very weak battle theme, tingy piano that works in KH, but falls flat here. Overused Franciscan chants and generic choir music. When they have to put a classic music sound test in the game (the car), you know the soundtrack is not great.
I agree, this game just failed to tell a good story. They had it too, they had it. The story isn't a bad frame, they just didn't deliver when it mattered. Don't get me started on the missed opportunities in insomnia and the world of ruin. FF7 is my favorite and I am certain now this remake will either be a hallway like FF13 or screw up the story like they did here. I hate to admit but I think the days of good final fantasies are behind us. RIP final fantasy :(
Unfortunately, this game made SquareEnix money. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume a trend. There has been a depreciating value in terms of revenue ever since 7 and its a bit odd that they chose to go the 13 route 3 times...I did not buy FF15 and I bought 13 as a used copy in protest. But it was for self gratification more than an actual movement for my part that I bought these games used or boycotted them entirely.
Every last damn quest is clear on the other side of the map, which means you ride in the car, and you cruise, and you cruise, and you cruise.. And you continually have to keep putting gas in that gas guzzler or you'll wind up pushing the thing or getting it towed. And no driving at night..? Iggy Specks needs to take a chill pill! If you can't drive at night, why does Cindy want to put new and better headlights in the car! This game is stupid! It's just as bad as FF13, and that's hitting a new low.
I think that Square Enix should rebuild the franchise from the ground up and go back to the exploration and subtitles without talking voices and go back to the battle system like it was in Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX that we loved

Next, I then resume your video to give you a chance to explain yourself, until 4:11 when you explain a 'reason to play' is based on the fact the story is 'paced' wrong. I havn't played the game beyond the demo, but you're starting to go off track for me - and feel you could be more poignant, or sharp, in you critique of the games' story. I have to write a wall of text now. The way I see it; the reason the FF VII story was so great, is because it was about environmental activists. Written in a time when the world believed the Earth was going to be fucked by humans for a variety of reasons. (Fossil fuels, pollution, nukes, pesticides, Meat Industry etc). The story was about a Terrorist Cell called Avalanche, who messed with the operations of a Corporation, who extracted fossil fuels from the Earth on an industrial scale. Avalanche were essentially what we call in the real world "Green Peace" - who are currently stopping Square Enix's Japanese pals killing whales in the Pacific. The story resonated with us. It wasn't purely about 'love', 'sexuality', 'rejection', 'race', or 'loneliness'. Themes that have been EXHAUSTED in popular culture. So what next? We liked Square Enix when they sympathized with terrorists. Why aren't things so simple any more? MONEY. Ask all the dumb fucks who have control over story at Square Enix. I'm telling you there's some very rich people who have far too much influence over the story at that company. And their influence has only grown with the success of the company. Ok meta rant over. Bite me.

I had more of a blast on the island, doing all the side missions, then doing the story. The battle system is garbage. One of the most important aspects of a final fantasy is the magic system. I hardly used it here
Yeah the story is bad, the characters are unrelatable for me, the open world is generic, the story is so stereotype, it gets rediculous. Like is there a story crafting guideline for final fantasy games out there. It takes the most stereotype elements shuffles them and places them together. The main character Noctis is absolutely unrelatable. A unfriendly doom & gloom emo kid is not fit for a king or deserves having 3 friends/bodyguards that protect him. Then you do exciting stuff like collecting weapons from graves. Yeah. Amazing never done that before. The only fun character is Kefka i mean Adyn. Some party banter makes me laugh as well. Like comments from Gladi or Ignis about some stuff happening. Why can Noctis teleport around. Is that standart for humans in that world? I never get to know. Why can they happily drive around in their car, when followed by an advanced empire, that has battlemechs and flying antigrav drop ships and robots. Like one hell fire rocket drone strike and the happy road trip would be over. Why are the black creatures attacking at night? How can a society exist when magic Iron Giants attacking at midnight? The game world should be in an apocalypse state with no buildings standing around and all humans hiding in some cave, bunker or corner of the world, where the monsters can not get to. And the combat is not bad at single target combat but falls together when you have multiple enemies to kill or bosses that just hit you and do not telegraph their attacks at all. Like sometimes i can dodge attacks, sometimes they one hit me, balance is all over the place. I suffer through the combat by overleveling the content and spamming potions. I use gear that protect from some status effects like confuse from bees etc. But still how to get not hit in multiple target combat or bossfights is impossible for me. And in Dark souls or Sekiro i can dodge reliably and get gud, not so in Final Fantasy 15. The road trip adventure parts are somewhat amazing, the production values music, art style, art assets, level design sometimes is amazing. But the world building, open world gameplay, the activities you can do and the on rails car driving are really disappointing. It is a heavily mixed bag for me. A stroke of genius on the one side and an utter train wreck on the other (combat, useless animations that interrupt gameplay etc).
I agree with you thought this would be the game that would make me break down and get a console and start console gaming again, wasn't impressed at all. Nothing in this game strikes me as worthwhile. If it gets pc ported ill buy it on sale to kill time but that's all I see this as. If you paid full price for this I think you got ripped off and if you paid for exclusive/deluxe whatever it is editions, you really got fucked over.
