Great rhythm guitar part, or the greatest rhythm guitar part?
This is almost certainly the most fun song on planet earth to cover. I've recorded too many versions to count. That aggressive rhythm guitar, the frantic energy, the wonderfully odd but somehow perfect lead guitar and drum fills. Pure magic.
You might notice I've made some adjustments to how I play John's part. After listening to the Rock Band isolations, I don't hear sliding up the neck in the intro, which John did live but apparently not on the album. Also, John's playing on the bridge/middle 8 is barely audible, and I wonder if there might have been an edit that removed him entirely, or perhaps he simply stopped playing? Anyway, I hear a faint strumming in there somewhere in the mix, so I replicated it here as best as I could.
For anyone who doubts John played the Eminor and B7 as I do here, I have video evidence! • The Beatles - I Want T... . Not that this video proves anything (since it's a mimed performance), but you can clearly see John playing those shapes on the neck. He did end up changing this around for future live performances, and I don't blame him. But I am 1000% sure John played the chords on the album as you see them here. My ears don't lie!
What a fun song. Pure joy.
