"I want to hold you hand" conquered the US, and is one of every Beatles fan all time favorite !! Loved seeing all this people gather and sing along, showing their happiness.
Now, that's a happening, as they used to say! More than half the people here weren't even born when this song first came out but now share in the joy of harmony and togetherness.
Extraordinario homenaje a John y a todos los Beatles, revolucionaron la música y desde Argentina con mi nieto te mando un Abrazo y gracias por difundir a estos genios!!!!!
I'm nearly seventy years old. I heard the news of John Lennon's killing in my kitchen on the transistor radio while I was preparing the class I was to teach the next day. I read my students W.H. Auden's elegy for William Butler Yeats. A friend called on the phone from England and asked "Why? Why?" (America was senselessly violent then, as it is still.) The weekend after, NYC observed ten minutes of silence. Thousands of us went to the spot where they're singing and looked up at the Dakota. Some suburban girls looked at me and my partner negotiating our way to what was to become Strawberry Fields and said "Let's follow the homosexuals, they know the way." (There was no irony in putting it that way back then.) I think the next day was a Monday. I walked down to Kappy's Records on W. 181st St. and bought two early Beatles LPs. I played them over and over. The city was numb. Beatlemania had revived us after JFK's assassination. Now this. History's gone down a long tunnel since, maybe with a few bright spots, but mostly it's been dark. Now Dennis and I are retired and old, living out in a small California town, facing grave illness. Most of the family and friends we knew are gone. The Beatles' music is cheerful, profound, immortal. Long after we're dead and what we've seen is the history of long ago, these songs will still be performed. That is the meaning of the creation, performance, and enjoyment of art. Thanks for posting this nice video. Apologies for making this comment so long and rambling, but it had to be written down somewhere for posterity, I suppose. Best wishes.
“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.” - Kurt Vonnegut
Rest In Peace & Love to our Beatle brother Mark who passed away one year ago today (6/1/63 - 2/9/21). You are missed & will always be in our hearts & songs ✨❤️🙏🏼✨
Dear Gen X, There was a time when this country had hope, kindness, and humor and "all we were saying was give peace"! We Boomers that you find so quaintly annoying are on are way out and perhaps when we are gone you will recognice (despite all are failings) the true legacy we are leaving you! "May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you and the pure light within you guide you all the way on"
