I want to start Monster High, but I don't know where to begin (a chaotic ask for help) 

best place to start is always the very beginning!

You can start from gen 2, it's short: only 2 movies, 6 webisodes, 1 holiday special. Also it's generation that "everybody" hate, which is unfair as movies are decent and dolls were nice at the beginning.

As a monster high OG kid: Start with Gen’s in order. Start with what MADE the show popular and iconic worldwide before corporate meddling. Start with New Ghoul In School, follow the webisodes order, intertwining the movie/tv special releases within the websiode orders. The webisode canon is slightly different from the movie canon, but in general it’s pretty much the same. Basically New Ghoul In School, Webisodes, Webisodes Volume 1, Webisode Volume 2, Movie, etc Then when you’re done with the iconic Gen 1, watch what little of Gen 2 is because at least they kept the general character personalities/iconic voice actors as babyfied as it is (The only plus to Gen 2 was the animation style was actually really good). It has a different canon as well, but at least the characters kind of remained. Think of it as a soft reboot. THEN watch Gen 3 KNOWING it’s a complete rebrand for children and a new generation, adding more diversity in characters (even if it seems less diverse because of voice accents all being like american this gen), and it FINALLY adds LGBTQ rep which the original creator wanted for Gen 1, but Mattel said no because it wasn’t “profitable” (It was at the time they just didn’t want to admit it, abd then when other companies started creating LGBTQ content they were like, Oh we can market it now make it ALL LGBTQ/DIVERSE) Gen 3 also ditches the general “Children of Universal Monsters” because of Nickelodeon they lost the rights to the universal monsters (meaning Frankie Stein had to be changed to not look like what we know Frankenstein as, etc). G3 basically just keeps names and generic color palettes of characters and is a COMPLETELY different take on a Monster school. It is VERY jarring from the original characters, so its best to enjoy G1 first, then go into G3 KNOWING the characters are completely different.

Gen 1 will always be my favorite so I'd recommend that, but they're all pretty different from each other so it just depends on what version you think you'd like better. Gen 3 is drastically different from gen 1 while gen 2 is a bit more similar with some lore differences. The way I started as a kid was with the webisodes and I just watched the movies throughout, although I'd look up if there's a certain order to it since I just did whatever I found first

I love both gen 1 and 3 gen 3s writing was better in the 1st season but season two is not bad or finished yet so hopefully it will get better with the following episodes 🤞 gen 3 has a more cohesive story and plot lines that last throughout the show and gen 1 is slice of life and after the character introductions you can basically hop around anywhere in the show/movies

From my understanding the Web series came first then the CGI movie series and then those reboots. Oh specking of Draculaura I found out her voice actress is also the same as Jimmy Neutron

🎶Let's start at the very beginning. 🎵 🎵A very good place to start!🎶 Oh wait... you probably never saw The Sound of Music. So you don't get the reference. But, as your resident old person, I will aways recommend start with where it started. You can also maybe dable in the spinoff, Ever After High. ...or you can watch Negative Legend's video on it. But I [and my daughter] dropped the franchise after the first reboot. Why reinvent the wheel? There are also novels. Completely different continuity. A bit more edgy, and tries to be "mature". I still recommend the gen 1.

new ghoul at school is where you should start if you start from gen 1

Gen 1 was the 2D flash animation to sell the dolls, if you wanted the complete lore you went to the website and made your coffin phone, your locker and all that fun kid marketing... thats why its 6hrs of content.... It was fun.... After that it was like they realized that they had enough money to convince Daddy Mattel to pretty please animate their dolls... Then thats the 1st set of 3d models that were accurate to the dolls.... i havent paid attention since the gen 2 movies so Gen 3 is completely new to me..... and someone would have to tell me something really interesting about it for me to want to go watch it....

You can start with whatever Gen interest you first. Then you can look at that Monster High Gen's wiki for the watch order. Then repeat with the other gens if you want. I like all gens and I have and currently watching them in order.

This is my opinion but you should really give gen 1 a try first since it’s most iconic for everyone that’s known monster high from the beginning and to also get a proper introduction of the main characters (even tho there origin stories change a bit throughout)and many of the extras characters you will see in gen 1. from there on out you can then compare the first gen to gen 2 and 3 if you want and see which one you like the most out of the three

G1 doesnt have inconsistent lore : the diaries that come with the dolls, the books, the web-series and the movies contradict eachother all the time, its just vibes pretty much, but it has the coolest fashion on my opinion G2 is the most kiddie one, has 2 movies and a series, nobody has it as their favorite but some people don't hate it, the fashion and dolls are horrible tho, the few excepitons being the ones that are planed for g1 but are pushed G3 is the most straight foward, the series and the live-action movies have the same "premisse" but are completly separete stories, like they are alternative time-lines, the dolls are pretty great but not as extravagant as g1

How I got into monster high was a dvd I think my uncle got me when I was like 11 or 10 and it was 13 wishes which is my personal favorite out of all the movies

Because you said you want to get in to it cus the fashion i would say gen 1 but all the gen are good in there on way gen 1 is the main one people talks about and compare to the new generation gen 3. They are really 3 different worlds with the same characters basically. Gen 1 has a tv min shorts series with i think 3s and movie line up that has like 10 movies (can't remember) so if u want to watch something that will not be to short of a watch but also a little bet long that focus different adventures with the MH girls then watch gen 1 For gen 2 I don't believe they did anything other then the 2 or 3 movies. I personally liked gen 2 but i don't hear people talk about it to much for the first movie of gen to its like a origin story of how monsters high got built but as i said each gen is like there on different world so backstory they give for gen 2 don't really match gen one. If u are big on animation differences then gen 2 have a more cute animation versus the more sharp animation from gen 1 As for gen 3 its the most different from the original and as i said i don't hear or see people talk about gen 2 for real so gen 3 gets compared to gen 1 alot. Gen 3 have 2 movies now and a tv show the main fashion character of monster high (clawdeen the wearwolf) is not the same and is more nerdy like and i bring that up cus the fashion comment. As i said each gen is like different world gen 3 is so different but they still used the characters we know for this new gen so alot of people have hate on it. I watched the movie and it wasn't to bad other then the costumes not looking that good of a quality. I don't know how many seasons the tv shows have so far but because its recent and new its would talke long to catch up I hope this helps on your decision! ❤

the newest one is prolly the most accesible at least for me, but the one before isn't bad, especially a lot of the g2 movies. havent seen the new live action though

Start with New Ghoul at School then whatever u want is fine. Imo G1 is giving edge and fashion and is so fun, G2 is too safe and soft but it’s fine ig I just feels baby fied, and G3’s movie is cheap but I liked it and it’s what got me into monster high, and the show is also alright but not as fun as the orginal show

There are many different places you can start, none of them really add up to the other, but I will say the doll collecting was a nightmare for my family, 😂😅 I would also add that you could start with the very first movie that came out, and go from there, you would likely have to look up how to watch them in a somewhat chronological order, but that's all I have for you, I'll tell ya more if I remember much else.

I would honestly start in order with g1, g2 and finally g3, g1 has the most media with a long assortment of 3 minute webisodes and 13 movies I would definitely start with the webisodes first! (All on yt you can find a playlist with every episode) with g2 it’s very short bc no one rly did enjoy this generation with its own little series and 2 movies. Now with g3 it will definitely be refreshing after g2 but it’s probably the most different Gen from the other 2 and takes a lot of risk but it’s enjoyable either way. (All of this is my own opinion lol)

I loved the original, but I also like the new one. I think it's good. Not a fan of the movies, but the cartoon is good.

Straight to the point: Gen 1 don't even get into gen 3. I'm not saying this (only) out of hate but as an og fan i would highly recommend gen 1 over gen 3. It's the feeling it gave me back then and still gives whenever i watch one of the old movies or even webepisodes. Maybe the nostalgia is at fault... but really it's not the same anymore. Gen 3 could be another random series if it wasn't called monster high and published as monster high if you get what i mean. It's not the same. It's not a continuation. It's not monster high (even if its called that).

You know what's crazy I watched the OG monster high in secret as a kid cause it was that girly lol but this new one absolutely not

Gen 1 always webisodes and movies

Never watched this franchise. OG Teen Titans fan. Never liked the Teen Titans Go series. But the movie was fun.

Start with the first run of movies, then watch the original webseries. You can try the reboot movies, but the series was kind of balls. I haven't watched anybof the newest one because it's just not the same anymore. MH media is all basically just a long doll commercial and about all of it is not canon to itself. The movies are there own canon and the different web series are their own canons, so it doesn't really matter. Mattel is pretty shit with it's writing no matter which series you watch, but the originals were better put together and more fun IMHO. The first reboot had lots of potential that was horribly squandered and the current one has changed the characters so much that it may as well not be them at all. Mattel should have made them the first runs kids instead.
