Great to hear Jimmies songs from Merle. Also nice to see a last supper on the wall. Reminds me of my Grandparents house. I was lucky to leave the city and get back to the country and live with them on a 100 acre farm in high school. Got me back to my roots and this type of country blues music.

I have been a fan of yours for over 40yrs and singing along with your music while driving. 2yrs ago at the age of 68 i decided to try and sing your songs at karaoke at our local Legion (the only songs I love to sing )the folks at the legion just love me to sing your songs and I try to do you proud . Sonny and were good friends, I have a lot of pictures, recordings Sonny had given me, I was collecting and documenting my home town music. I had a lot of help, and Sonny was one of the ones that helped me. Most of those guys are gone now, I am proud of the work we did. At sometime I will reinvest my time into the Bakersfield Sound. Sonny is a good man. Now he is picking in Gods band.

What a nice surprise to find this video today. I was just listening to some of your songs earlier this evening. I grew up listening to my dad singing your songs around our house while he did chores. Sonny Langley was my uncle. We were very close, more like brother and sister. I miss him every day. He and Merle were best friends and sang together often just for their own enjoyment. If you go to "That Bakersfield Sound" web site, there is a recording of Uncle Sonny and Merle singing "long black veil" done at Merle's house just for fun. Quality is not very good but at least it's something.
My dad and brothers used to pick up a guitar and just play this way. Then they went on to bands, gigs, and paid spots. Now, maybe they will pick them up, maybe they won't.

Hey Merle, I just saw you in Bendover, Nevada. GREAT SHOW! The last time I saw you was at the Buck Owens Toys For Tots shows in Bakersfield, Ca, back in 67 and 68, I believe it was. Did you play 2 years in a row there? I can't remember if I saw you there both years I went. Anyway, Bendover was a great show and I'm not going to wait so long for the next one!
