Okay, here's some spoilers, but you wanted to know more about Djikstra's decision. If you choose to instead break Djikstra's leg and leave Radovid alive, the war will rage on and Emhyr will eventually be betrayed to his death. Radovid will win the war, but this will bring about a period of great darkness for all witches and witchers alike. The North and Novigrad will come under the complete rule and dominion of Radovid and the Church of the Eternal Fire. What Djikstra knows though, and this is in the books, is that there is no way Emhyr will honor his agreement with Roche. Not for long anyway. After the war with the North subsides and Radovid is put down, Emhyr will take some time to regroup and join with the elves, then he will march on Temeria. This is a ruler who has already broken several peace agreements before. This is why Djikstra conspires with Philippa to find Ciri so they can marry her off, because Djikstra knows that Emhyr is already planning to break his agreement with Foltest. Emhyr has hired elves to raid Northern forts and encampments. Djikstra knows there can be no peace while Emhyr remains alive and in power. Roche though, being an honorable man, would have resisted any attempt to betray his agreement with Emhyr until it was too late. Some side spoilers to help flesh out Emhyr's character more so that you know what a real SOB he is: Triss and Yen are almost killed in a battle with Emhyr's forces. In the Battle of Sodden. In fact, this is how the books begin, after the fact. Yen is blinded in the battle, and Triss is so near death that they actually erect a gravestone for her. Her gravestone still stands at Sodden and she is known as the "fourteenth one", the fourteenth magician to have died in the battle. Emhyr's forces suffered a heavy defeat at Sodden, and he was forced to retreat and enter into a peace agreement with Foltest. But yet now elves are beginning to stage surprise assaults on Northern forts and encampments (hence the title, Blood of Elves). They've been hired by Emhyr. The game picks up where the last of the books end. Now you know why Geralt and Ciri hate and distrust Emhyr so much, and why Geralt was so surprised to find Yen working for him. Emhyr has also hired a sorcerer assassin to find Ciri and kill Geralt. Djikstra is trying to find her before Emhyr does. Philippa saves Geralt from the assassin.

The Dijkstra betrayal part is pretty widely disliked by fans, because it feels very out-of-character for him. I wouldn't necessarily say the betrayal itself was OOC, but there's no way he would be stupid enough to announce it in front of Geralt. Dijkstra is one of the smartest characters in the series, and would know that Geralt would never allow that. He would wait until Geralt had left before betraying Roche & Co, or better yet, have them quietly assassinated later. As it is, it makes him look kind of dumb, which he is anything but.

while im new to the series I think I agree with that. hes so underground and low key. but then to make it a big show to kill Roche in front of geralt? seems like a bad idea. and it was. Thanks for watching!

I don't know why some people think Djikstra's betrayal is out of character for him. It certainly is in keeping with his character in the books. In Blood of Elves, he and Philippa hear rumors that the granddaughter of the now deceased Queen of Cintra has survived the war and has been seen in the company of a witcher. Djikstra questions Dandelion as to their whereabouts. Dandelion lies, but Djikstra perceives as much. He feeds Dandelion a BS story about wanting to help, but Dandelion doesn't fall for it. In reality Djikstra and Philippa have conspired to find a still as yet 13-year-old Ciri in order to marry her off to some retched king of their choosing in order to restore Cintra and gain further political and military power for themselves. The only reason he doesn't kill Dandelion and send assassins after Geralt is because he wants Ciri captured unharmed. He's not that smart either. Philippa betrays him right under his nose. She wants to find Ciri in order to hand her over to the lodge of witches, but she feigns support for Djikstra's plan to marry Ciri off. Did I mention how Philippa is my favorite? She saves Geralt once in the books. For her own nefarious, evil reason of course, but she does save him. She's described in the books as the most powerful magician alive, almost three hundred years old and very, very hard to surprise.

FWIW you made the choice I usually do too. There's no way Geralt would step away and sacrifice his friends. [And Madman is inevitable]. In W2 "Assassin of Kings", most of the rulers of the Northern Realms (Temeria, Kaedwen, etc.) were killed, leaving Radovid of Redania the sole Northern survivor. He took control of the other Northern Realms as well in order to fight the subsequent Nilfgaardian invasion. The Temerians Roche & Thaler considered that after the war Radovid's rule of Temeria would be worse than the, limited, self-rule they would be allowed under Emhyr, so they arranged to surrender on those terms. Djikstra used them to get rid of mad Radovid, so he could take over, but had no intention of surrendering so he had to get rid of the conspirators. [Do you remember livestream accidental brief visit to another (DLC) country? That is also allowed self-rule as long as it remembers that it is actually subject to Nilfgaard, and behaves as such. Real world - like Canada was very much its own country even before it got formal independence from Britain].
@RedMxrcy
@RedMxrcy 5 месяцев назад
Ohhh ok so that makes sense. but why did Djikstra want to kill Roche then? cuz he knew Roche wouldnt go along with it?
@Pichuuh
@Pichuuh 4 месяца назад
 @RedMxrcy Because Roche is from Temeria and Djikstra is from Redania, they both were patriots that chose the best decision for their country. Roche wanted a deal with Nilfgard so Redania gets invaded easier now that Radovid is dead in return for a semi-free Temeria, while Djikstra wanted to betray that deal to become king of Redania and fight on for his country. Basicly he had to kill them otherwise they would fight against him together with Nilfgaard.

Sasha/Cantarella [books] a sorceress who spied on Nilfgaardian intelligence, who spied on everyone else, to find Ciri for the lodge or sorceresses. [W3] Rather annoyingly, also the stage-name for Priscilla. PS: The only affairs that matter are Yen/Tris, nothing else is held against you. PPS: Fringilla Vigo was the subject of Geralt's longest recorded continuous affair in the books (months).

30:18 Dijkstra simply wanted to take Radovid's place - and, like him, seize all the Northern Kingdoms, including Temeria. By killing Vernon Roche, the commander of Temeria's guerrilla forces, he hoped to take over Temeria (and maybe even its troops) without much resistance. You know, nothing personal, just politics. By the way, Radovid did the same thing before, occupying another Northern Kingdom (Kaedwen) and easily taking over their resources (including troops) - and he did it despite the fact that Kaedwen was an ally. One may ask - why did Dijkstra want to occupy Temeria at all, Redania was not enough for him? The answer is simple - if he wanted to win the war against Nilfgaard, he had to either form an alliance of all the Northern Kingdoms (which would have been very difficult and time-consuming), or "unite" them, i.e. incorporate them into Redania. He chose the latter. 42:29 Gervalt of Rivia 53:49 Gilbert of Rivia In the next round (if you won) - Gerard of Rivia. Geralt has many faces.

""Dijkstra simply wanted to take Radovid's place - and, like him, seize all the Northern Kingdoms, including Temeria." Well technically Radovid would eventually unite free all the northern kingdoms and and grant them freedom. At least thats statet at the start and end of the game.

Vernone Roche and Thaler made a deal with Emyrh to lie down weapons and guerilla fights for Temeria to be a vassal country of Nilfgard at the cost of Redania and many other northern kingoms. This was extremaly selfish agreement from Thaler and Roche - so Dikstra as a Redenian patriot inspired by their selfishness decided to act also selfishly for Readania and himself. And By the way Geralt 100% would stay neutral at the theater and let them to resolve this among themselves .

@@piotrhajzral3862 I see your point but I really doubt that. I've read the book series for 3 times and for me the thing about Geralt is following: he's always playing a card of an "emotionless mutant" - you can recall his dialogue with Yen while hunting the Golden Dragon and their dialogue with Triss in Kaer Morhen when she made her statement about the war. But the trick about Geralt is that he is always passionate and full of empathy when it comes to the real business right here and know, especially with the people he knows, not random by passers He witnessed amnesia, that's a fact, but does it mean that he would re-build he's previous character while recovering? Surely not. Geralt becomes compassionate and softer person in the game anthology, in my opinion I would really like to read your comment on that. Sorry for my English again

I was so conflicted about that moment and of course it was a timed choice. I went purely based on the fact that they risked their lives for me/geralt in kaer Morhen when they could of easily said no. I assumed geralt would protect them. but kill djikstra in the process? idk it was a tough choice. thank you for watching and giving some more lore info!

The quest 'Gwent: Big City Players' was cut two players short because you didn't play Dijkstra, and he also didn't get to direct you to the next player, who is normally the last one in the quest. The good news is, you can still play him, a merchant, sort of "semi off-quest". You *absolutely* is going to love the card he lets you win. In the forest SW of Novigrad, a Scoia'tael band has a camp on a small hill. It's located about halfway between the signposts Lucian's Windmill and Logger's Hut. You should be able to see the merchant symbol on the map when you get close.

Hey redmxrcy, "The North" consissts of many states such as Temeria, Redania, Kaedven and Aedirn (the 4 major ones) The Nilfgaard Empire tried to invade them before but unsuccessfully, because Northern realms always managed to form an alliance against the southern threat (it is worth mentioning that they haven't been so friendly to each other during the peace time) So here you can see the Redanians and Temerians representatives trying to make piece with the empire by surrendering all the realms except Temeria. Diijcstra, being a Redanian patriot, as he stated, saw an opportunity to turn the tide of war back as Gerald told him that Emhyr couldn't convince the trading companies to continue the war - when you've been rescuing Philippa (so the long war would favor the northern realms and Diijcstra wanted to unite all the realms under Redania's rule to continue the war) Hope this is going to provide you with a better picture of the politic events (politics in The Witcher universe is a hard nut to crack indeed haha) Sorry for my poor English

this quest is so unfinished and so lame. first, they had us choose between killing djikstra or letting him kill roche and friends just for the sake of having a difficult choice in the end WHEN WE ALL KNOW that djikstra would NEVER do that, the best he'll do is have roche and friends as captives because he knows geralt can throw hands. second, nobody even mentions radovid's death after the quest. the NPC will still say "long live radovid!" even after his death.

The ending of the quest with Radovid's assasination is unfortunately the result of developers running out of time.That's why Dijkstra acts really out off character here.This man was one of the best spies/tacticians on the Continent.He surely wouldn't betray Roche and the others in front of Geralt and if he did he would bring a lot more of his man with him.
