Also, 1 movie = 1 school year. The first movie was released in 2001 and the second one was released in 2002 so the actors growth was completely natural. They managed to make 8 movies in 10 years so the actors really look like how they would supposed to look like in the books as far as age goes.

Another great reaction! In the first movie, the wandmaker basically said to Harry that his wand and the wand of Voldemort share the same core, the wands(only) are "brothers". Tom Riddle and Voldemort are the same person. Tom Riddle was a student at hogwarts before becoming Voldemort and , as a teenager, created a diary with the memory of himself at that age. I know it can look like the kids aged a good few years between movies but they really did keep up with the age of the kids. Literally just a year or so between movies. One of the great things about these movies is you literally get to watch both the characters and the actors grow up across the story.

Yeah Muggle-borns are witches/wizards born into non magic families, usually because of some magical ancestors. Magical families can also have muggle children, called Squibs. (basically the only muggles that have knowledge of the wizarding world) Filch the caretaker is a squib. The "danger" isn't that bad when you remember things can be fixed with magic way easier than without, so long as you aren't killed. Tom is Voldemort and the young Tom is a memory embedded in the diary of his time at Hogwarts and he's sapping Ginny's life force to basically resurrect himself. However Harry understands that destroying the book before it's complete will keep him from coming back yet again. It'll be explained more in later movies.

Some back story on Voldemort before the series started (I know others have mentioned, but I’m going to expand a bit and give more context): His real name is Tom Riddle and he was born of a witch and a muggle. His mother slipped his father a love potion and tricked him into sleeping with her. After the potion wore off, he was horrified and left her and she died in childbirth so Tom grew up in an orphanage. He was discovered by Dumbledore and then attended Hogwarts where he became one of the most talented students in history. He was popular, loved by students and teachers, good looking and the greatest wizard of his generation. However, he had a dark and twisted side and loved to experiment with dark magic. He became obsessed with finding out his heritage and who his parents were and was absolutely disgusted when he discovered that his father was a muggle, so he abandoned his name and created a pseudonym (Voldemort). While at Hogwarts, he opened the Chamber of Secrets, releasing the basilisk and killing Myrtle, but he got away with it and framed Hagrid for it and Hagrid got expelled which is why he doesn’t have a wand (although he does have a secret wand that he hides in his umbrella). It was easy to blame Hagrid because he is half-giant and wizards are generally racist and prejudiced. Everyone thought he would become a successful wizard after school but he got a low key job in a small shop (the dark looking shop that Harry went to in the beginning) and then one day just disappeared and wasn’t seen for years. He spent years practicing dark magic and pushing its limits and working on a secret plan (I can’t tell you what since that would be a spoiler for the last two movies) to become immortal. After he returned to England, he was completely different both physically and mentally and was barely recognizable and had lost his good looks. People were absolutely terrified of him but he also promised to make a new world in which wizards would be the dominant race and his racist ideology attracted a lot of people. He gathered a large following and brought down the government and controlled the entire United Kingdom. Then a war happened and a resistance was formed led by Dumbledore (called The Order of the Phoenix which will be relevant later). The order was able to slow down Voldemort’s influence, but nobody was able to defeat him as he became unstoppable until one night when he went to murder Harry’s parents and was unable to kill Harry who was just a baby. His body got destroyed and he vanished thus ending the first war. THAT is why Harry is so famous. He defeated the most dangerous dark wizard in the world as a baby. Again, I can’t tell you why he wanted to kill Harry as a baby, that will again be relevant later. He wasn’t seen for years and as of you watching this, he still doesn’t have a physical body. He exists as an entity (for now). We saw him in the first movie which is when he possessed professor Quirrel and lived as a parasite on the back of Quirrel’s head. The young Tom Riddle in this movie is just a version of him whom he saved in a diary, he is literally a memory/ piece of his already fragmented soul. Voldemort is a VERY powerful wizard who can achieve very complex magic. P.S. Dumbledore is the only one Voldemort fears and the only one on his level magic wise, but Dumbledore could not confront him one on one for reasons that will, again, be revealed later. Harry is nowhere near Voldemort’s level and will never be as good of a wizard, but he will have help and improve as the series goes on. Hope that helps and maybe you’ll find it interesting! 😊

Some cool ad-libbed moments in this - "I didn't know you could read" from Malfoy, and when Lucius is saying to Harry about hoping he will always be there to save the day was an ad-lib because he wanted to see how the actor that played Harry would respond - so Harry saying "Don't worry I will be" was also an ad-lib. Also when Lucius kicked Dobby, that wasn't in the script either. The actor did it and the director thought he tripped. But "Lucius" said that he just thought it was in character so they added in Dobby being kicked lol

Tom is Voldmeort when he was 16 and a student at Hogwarts 50 years ago. His full name is Tom Marvolo Riddle. He appears because he used magic to preserve himself as a memory in the diary. This will be significant later on....

Also with regard to the wands, Harry’s wand is described as a brother to Voldemort’s wand because their cores are made from two feathers given by the same phoenix. Harry and Voldemort themselves are not brothers.

The Tom Riddle you see is a memory that he preserved in his diary. He does become Voldemort later.

The kids at 14:17 are from left to right Charlotte Skeoch as Hannah Abbott, Edward Randell as Justin Finch-Fletchley, and Louis Doyle as Ernie Macmillan, the trio from Hufflepuff house, they have major roles in deleted scenes from this movie, and Justin was the one found petrified with Nearly Headless Nick. Only Charlotte and Louis reprised their characters in Goblet of Fire supporting Cedric Diggory in the Triwizard Tournament

You may have already figured this out, but Tom Riddle was a boy that went to school at Hogwarts and opened the chamber of secrets back then (which resulted in Myrtle’s death) then he took on the name of Voldemort and tried to kill Harry Potter when he was older. The diary was a preserved aspect of his younger days which was at the end draining Ginny’s life to give the memory actual physical form to allow the younger form of Voldemort to manifest into the actual world.

I’m so glad my youtube brought me to these & your channel! I’m excited to see more as they get darker both in production & plot. You have to remember these movies are through harrys pov so you everything in the first two much brighter, magical & child like.. as he grows up they get darker.. like literally visually… it’s my favorite part of these movies. No spoilers just information i missed the first couple of times that might help you connect some of the dots: - They kinda touched on it in the first movie & books but they don’t touch up on it after; everyone calls voldemort “who should not be named” and “the dark lord” because he cursed his own name so anyone who used or said it would be tracked and found. Because of that, everyone fears to call him “voldemort” -Basically “I Am Lord Voldemort” is an anagram for his real name “Tom Marvolo Riddle”. That’s how he created the name “Voldemort” (The potterheads just call him vladdy/vlody. Thats the only thing i can say without spoiling, the movies will keep going more into Voldemort!) Also the little awkward silence & knowing look Dumbledore gives harry after asking him if there’s anything he needs to tell him & he says “no sir, nothing” gets me everytime.. thats the same exchange we see in the memory that he had with tom / voldy when he was a student. They really tried to make it obvious that everyone can see the similarities between them & show the fear everyone (including harry) has that history will repeat The harry potter universe is honestly soo complex, i still find new little things now😭 but i hope some of this helped.

So Tom is not the memory of someone wanting to bring Voldemort back. He is Voldemort himself, a memory of him from when he was a Hogwarts student. Indeed, Malfoy wanted to bring back Voldemort using this diary. You ll understand what this diary really is in the future movies :)

SOOO excited for you to see the next one, it's my personal favourite of all of them and it's so different stylistically from the first two. it's a lot darker and has a totally different tone. edit: also i'm sure other people have explained this, but in the first movie when ollivander gave harry his wand, he said that the phoenix feather inside it came from a phoenix which only donated one other feather its whole life to be used in a wand, and that other feather was used in voldemort's wand, so when he said "its brother gave you that scar", ollivander was talking about harry's WAND's 'brother'. also, tom riddle IS voldemort, the tom we see in the movie is voldemort when he was a student at hogwarts and before he became a dark wizard and changed his name to sound more menacing and evil. most wizards and witches call voldemort you-know-who and he-who-must-not-be-named because they don't want to say his name. i hope this helped!!

Tom Riddle IS Lord Voldemort - he started as Tom and then chose to change his name when he was an adult. The book contained a memory of Tom ... like a piece of Voldemort held in the book.

The diary was Voldemort’s and he contained a part of himself within it. He looks young because he used that diary when he was 16. I always felt really sad for Ginny in this book. All her life she watched her older brothers go to Hogwarts one by one (she has six brothers) and when she finally went to Hogwarts, she spent a good portion of her first year being manipulated by Voldemort. She didn’t make any friends in her first year because she started off being very shy so this diary was the only friend she had. In the book, it’s explained in more detail how she confided into the diary and how Tom showered her with compliments and made her feel special. The more she wrote into the diary the stronger he became until he was able to control and manipulate her. The truly evil ones like Voldemort always prey on the young and vulnerable.

Voldemort was born Tom Marvolo riddle who changed his name to Lod Voldemort as an adult when we realised his father had abandened him and his mother as a child but more so because his father was a muggle. Voldemort looked down on wizard and witches that were not pure blood to the point of killing them for being just that. in order to separate himself from his father (Tom Riddle SNR) he changed it to lord voldemort. he also wanted people fear the name as they do so people call him he who must not be named, you know who or the dark lord. harry's wand and voldemorts wand have feathers from the same pheonix in this film making harry's and voldemorts wands brothers hope that made sense

He IS "he who shall not be named" - he is kind of like Hitler or some other major villain from history - and as for the "brother" comment - it was the wand - as in, Harry's wand is the "brother" of Voldemort's wand. I think of Voldemort as a kind of parallel to Hitler - well, sort of - Hitler was involved in WW1 but he wasn't in charge - Voldemort is like the essence of those in charge in Germany in WW1 and WW2 - so partly he is "Germany" and partly he is "Hitler" - he fought to concur the world and was beaten then he returned to try again and the Harry Potter series is the second try.

Tom Riddle and Voldermort are the same person. Tom's father was a muggle and his mother a witch from a pure blood family. He hated his fatehr as he disowned his mother when he found out she was a witch. So when he turned to the dark side he took the name Lord Voldormort to strike fear in the name and ditched the name of his muggle born father. The diary was Toms from school. You will learn more of Toms past and how he came to Hogwarts in later films

Yeah, Hogwarts is set in the Scottish Highland, is the name of the whole school place and it is located next to the town of Hogsmeade. So yeah and it is the signature place for Harry Potter fans

Voldemort is believed by the wizarding world to be dead. Dumbledore, Harry and a few other people know the truth because they’ve seen him, but nobody else wants to believe that Voldemort is alive. He is alive (in some form, as less than a ghost), but can’t survive without a host body. During the ten years between when he lost his body after failing to kill Harry as a baby and when we see him on Quirrel’s head, he survived mostly by possessing snakes until Quirrel found him. Actually, Quirrel wasn’t evil to begin with. In the book, he’s only in his 20s and is the youngest teacher in Hogwarts. He suffered a gruesome death so young. In the book, Harry doesn’t kill him at all, in fact, Harry is overpowered and faints. He only sees a tall figure with long white hair coming to his rescue before he faints and it’s Dumbledore. Dumbledore comes to save him in the book and Voldemort panics and escapes Quirrel’s body which kills Quirrel. It’s quite sad.

You're far from the first reactor who is confused by this, so maybe the movie didn't do a good job making it clear. But you will definitely learn more about Voldemort and all your questions will be answered as you continue watching the movies! The movies just keep getting better from here. Yes Voldemort was on the back of Quirrell's head, that is his current state. This vs the memory, will be explained later. Regarding the wand: both Harry's and Voldemort's wand contains a phoenix feather, from the same phoenix, who only gave 2 feathers. The movies never say, but both feathers came from Fawkes.

I think you’re getting a little bit confused, so I’ll try to clear it up for you, Voldemort‘s true name is Tom Riddle, he changed his name to Lord Voldemort after leaving school, but Dumbledore is the only one who still calls him, Tom, since he’s the only person not afraid of him, where is Voldemort‘s death eaters call him, the dark, Lord, and everyone else refers to him as he who shall not be named, but Voldemort and Tom Riddle are the same person, in the first film. Dumbledore explains that there are many ways in which he can return. This is one of them, they go into more detail about how he was able to come back as a memory by preserving himself in the diary, but let’s just say there are different versions of Voldemort that existed throughout time, and each version of him has gotten worse and worse, but every version of him is still the same person, basically him in school and him. As you know him now, they are two completely different people, because of how much he’s changed, but still literally the same person as and he only changed his appearance and name, I hope this helps.

So to answer you question. Tom Riddle is Lord Voldermort. Tom Riddle is the name he was given when he was born. He was named after his father, who left before he was born, and his mother died shortly after his birth. He grew up in a muggle orphanage. His father was a muggle, his mother a witch. Once he found out where his father lived, he killed his father, and his grandparents. From that point on he stopped using the name Tom Riddle, and gave himself the title of Lord Voldermort. There are a few chapters in the books that explain his backstory a little more clearly. Unfortunately, they don't really do a good job of this in the movies. But they do reveal somethings later, so I don't want to completely spoil it for you. I'm sure you'll have more questions after you're done the movies.

Tom Riddle put his memory into the diary when he was still at Hogwarts. The young man you see at the end is Tom's memory pulling the life force out of Ginny to get stronger and become a real person again. His father abandoned him and was a muggle (also called Tom Riddle) hence why he wanted to get rid of his name. Also, he wanted to sound scarier and changed his name to Voldemort. I know someone has also commented about the wands too, but here's some extra info. Both Harry and Voldemort's wands have a phoenix tail feather as the core. The feathers came from the same phoenix who only gave those two feathers. That phoenix was Fawkes (Dumbledore's bird). Each movie/book is meant to be one school year. The books do a more thorough job of explaining everything. I always recommend reading the books if you can. Maybe when you finish watching the movies? I'm glad you're enjoying them so far! 😊

Hogwarts is both the Castle and the School, it is not a city, in fact the closest 'city' is a village called Hogsmead and the will get to visit it next year and every year after if they have a signed permission slip

Tom riddle is Voldemort. Tom changed his name during his later school years but at that time only his closest friends knew it. Also the Tom In the diary is only a memory of him while he was a school. In would give more info but don’t want to spoil anything. Even tho you’d need to read the books for more back story and explanations

Some of that stuff with draco's dad was stuff he made up. It wasn't in the books like saying Harry Potter will always be around to save the day. Yeah he made that up and Harry's response was made up to and then him kicking the elf. That was also his idea to make Dobby a little more sympathetic back when everyone thought he was just an annoyance

Hagrid is very clear in the first movie. He explains to Harry that the name of He We Do Not Name is Voldemort. Of course, Tom Marvolo Riddle is Voldemort. Riddle writes it in the air himself by dicing the letters: from TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE to I AM LORD VOLDEMORT Harry`s and Voldemort's wands share one feather each of the same Phoenix who gave only two feathers. It was indeed Voldy, who was born Tom Marvolo Riddle. Tom Riddle after his father, and Marvolo after his mothers father.
